- Nuclear Strike is a shooter video game developed and published by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation in 1997. The game is the sequel to Soviet Strike and the fifth installment in the Strike series, which began with Desert Strike on the Sega Genesis. The Soviet Strike development team also created Nuclear Strike. EA released a PC port the same year; THQ developed and in 1999 published a Nintendo 64 version called Nuclear Strike 64.

Nuclear Strike 64 review on the nintendo 64. Recorded using a dazzle and on an original real N64 console and game cartridge.
Interesting fact: When you beat the PS1 or PC versions of the game, you get a trailer to a game called Future Strike, that was going to be the 5th game in the series, yet halfway through development though, it became Future Cop: L.A.P.D. , and while reviews for this game were very positive for the most part, and still holds a large cult following even to this day, the game did not do so well in sales unlike the previous games, and the Strike series ended on a sad note. Shame.
The man, who exposes the bad and the obscure That's awesome, I never knew that. I'll have to check out Future Cop: LAPD now. Thanks for the heads-up.
The man, who exposes the bad and the obscure I love Future Cop! I played the crap out of that.
Future Strike is the last Strike game I designed, while at EA. I red did this game at PCP&L (Pacific Coast Power and Light), a developer set to "port" the game, but instead I remade the whole thing.
@@tonybarnes2920 You actually worked on Future Strike?! Awesome! I reckon you also worked on Future Cop: L.A.P.D., from which Future Strike was turned into halfway through development. Even though Future Cop L.A.P.D. had flopped badly, but still managed to gain praise from gamers like me, even to this day, you and your team sill did a great job at making Future Cop: L.A.P.D..
@@Razorblade1812 "Future Strike was turned into Future Cop: LAPD halfway through" is a simplification of what happen, but we'll go with that. ;) Future Strike essentially "died" when I left EA for Crystal Dynamics and worked on Legacy of Kain. That wasn't halfway through Future Cop's development, since Future Strike was for the 32x, then N64 (called Dolphin at the time) and Future Cop waited until the "32-bit Strike engine" was done, from Soviet, before starting up again. But I'm really glad everyone enjoyed it, even though it didn't get the market penetration it deserved. Maybe one day I'll go back and do a new "Strike" game ... maybe something like Future Cop, that hopefully will get more notice.
I didn't even know it WAS ported the the N64 :S
But it's such a shame EA dropped the Strike series, would be ideal for mobile platforms now!
Fuck no not today’s EA Andy way
dezz yup a fuel barrel would cost a fucking tenner lol
"Ported" is a relative term. The game wasn't really going to just fit on an N64, even with reduction in graphic and sound fidelity. Plus, I didn't really like the mission structure that the PS1 version had, so I gutted Nuclear Strike and redid all the missions. It has much more in common with Jungle Strike, than the PS1 version of Nuclear Strike.
@@tonybarnes2920 man why haven’t these amazing games been HD rebooted yet? Do you think it will ever happen? It’s one of the greatest game series of all time.
@@goleklectic3987 maybe, one day EA will get together a committee and attempt to make something they'll call "Strike". The thing is (and I don't down other devs and don't buy into the "EA = Evil" bs), I don't believe they could do it and retain the spirit of the original games. The heart and soul of the Strike games comes from 2 people; John Manley and myself. I've seen others try, but they either don't get it or don't have it ingrained in their DNA, like we do. Thank you for saying you think it's one of the greatest game series, I REALLY appreciate that!
another thoughtful, thorough review and from one of my favorite new gaming channels - the N64 has a sentimental spot in my heart as it was the first console I purchased as an adult - so many great memories, and you do stellar work, gold stamp!
Nuclear Strike 64 is a very unique and interesting game, the game offers Both Helicopter combat and Real time strategy elements and adds variety to the gameplay, the N64 is def the superior version when compared to the PS1 version
I had Desert Strike on the Sega Genesis. It was a game I found to be incredibly difficult. Because of that I never even thought to give this a try.
Always loved the entire Strike series on the Genesis. I sort of "knew" of this game's existence, but for some reason I was under the impression it was made into a very different game from the originals to fit the "3d" nature of the system/era. But just from watching this review it looks like it plays very similar to the 16-bit games! Definitely going to have to check this one out! I miss these types of games
If you like those 16 bit era games then you’d live this
This and Chopper Attack were two games I really wanted but never managed to get. Thanks for this review, it's made me want it again!
Great review as always Glenn. I actually didn't know that this received an N64 release. Off topic: what video editing software do you use for your custom introductions for your videos?
I was addicted to Soviet Strike and Twisted Métal 2 on my neighbour’s PlayStation back in the day...and I have had a hard time rekindling this interest years later
Desert strike: return to the gulf on the snes is one of my guilty pleasures. Great video wish they would make more. Great video.
Well done! Being a fan of the series, I picked this game up when I found it cheap but I have not had time to play it yet. I am trying to finish the Genesis offerings first. Again, thanks for the review. It is sad these games are not made anymore but that is why I love retro systems :)
how'd i miss the entire strike series it looks badass
Urban Strike was a great game in the series, always gets overlooked.
GET TO DA CHOPPAAAA!!!
Love this game! I always thought the graphics and action were really good which made it very fun to play.
I've never heard anyone say the word "expansion pak" as much as you! ;-) cool review, love the strike series and Desert Strike on the Amiga was my favourite of the lot.
great review Glenn, love the strike series, I realy enjoyed the first one tbh
Oh man, I forgot about these games. My friend had Jungle, and Desert Strike. How do I not have those? Choplifter on the Master System was pretty sweet too, and now I've remember that, need it as well. I'll have to look out for this too. Jeez, I'm way behind. Great review!
I hope you do space invaders sometime soon, such an underrated n64 coop game. Amazing music and badass boss fights. Can't wait to see your take on it. Good review as always.
I used to love this game. Great review, thanks! Just wondering if anyone here ever beat the final level of the this one? I remember that last stage being impossible. I've never been able to work out if my copy was just broken or if it was just a screw up in the port itself.
While I love Soviet and Nuclear I'll always have a soft spot for Urban Strike which was actually the first game in the series I played. I've owned all five games but actually played the 16-bit trilogy in reverse order. My cousins gitUrban Strike for their Genesis soon after it came out, and I got Jungle Strike for my SNES a couple of months later then got Desert Strike not long before the SNES Urban STrike came out before picking up my own copy of Urban Strike in 97.
My personal favorite in this series I mean all of the original Three are pretty good but I like jungle strike even better with desert strike being second. And even despite the fact that Urban strike is a little different thoroughly enjoyed it and had fun. What surprised me about nuclear strike 64 maybe the most is that it actually seemed harder to see a lot of the enemies than on the the 16-bit versions I can imagine that on the PlayStation 1 it plays a lot different. Though I still want to get through a playthrough on nuclear strike 64
Yeah check out the ps1 version if you like this…the cut scenes being acted etc makes a unique difference even with lower quality graphics in the game
Nice review as always Glenn!
This looks different to the PS1 version and I don't mean just graphics. The missions and map layout looks different and no FMV by the looks of it, that's what made Nuclear strike so in depth and brought it to life on the PS1.
Yeah no FMV which I personally quite liked in the ps1 version. This one’s higher resolution graphics too
@@n64glennplant The fmv was awesome in the PS1 game, I knew the bloke from Alec Mac (yes i'm a sad case). It took the strike series to another level ,so to release it without fmv seems almost pointless.
I just found the PC version of this game at a thrift store for a dollar. I impulse bought it and now I'm watching this review to see what the game is like, I'm glad I picked it up because it looks fun to me. I just hope it'll run on Windows 7.
I remember playing this on the ps1
I really remember most of the soundtrack being different than the cart I have.... especially the urban mission when you escort the bus in the civilian chopper.....
Great review, the only thing this game was missing was Arny himself :-)
I have never played a Strike series game. Based on this review though the N64 one looks like it can be fun. Maybe one of these days I'll give the series a try.
Love your videos Glenn keep them coming, I've watched almost all of them. = )
This reminds me of the old SNES helicopter game I still have to this day. I can't remember the name of it at the moment
Excelent review, thank you!
Wow! What a coincidence! The same day I get this game in the mail, you release a review of it on your channel. What are the chances! O_O
Approximately 3,720 to 1.
this and turok 2 were the games i got when i bought my n64
Played all the strike games, fav one was jungle strike with the hovercraft and stealthfighter
Hey mate great review as ever will you be reviewing the tony hawk games on n64 i recently picked them up and Would love to know your thoughts on them
I want to beat it for the Nintendo 64 Forever Beat 'Em All. Is it an hard/long game?
Oh I loved this game.
last time play this was in 2004/2005, that was my last year in elementary school, a lot of fun i this game.
I hope you're doing OK Glenn.
Still ill but hope to be back sometime sooner rather than later 👍
1:53 hhaha It remembers that horc running with the olimpic games torch
I have the Playstation version. I love the "Strike" series!
I had the 64 version and for some reason I never really got into it. I tried several times. I am very into other flight and combat flight sims, even when I was 9,10,11 and around that age the PC Combat Sims like US Navy Fighter 97 and Combat Flight Simulator 2 and later on IL2 Sturmovik and console based ones like Birds of Steel and IL2 Sturmovik Birds of Prey. That is why this is interesting it never appealed to me. I had a game called Longbow for the PC back then that was a helicopter combat game but sadly it never worked right on that PC in the area around 2000.There is a newer console based one for the PS3 and Xbox 360 that interests me but I never saw it for a decent price but its been a few years since I looked. I know there is at least one newer good one for the PC too.
Have you covered Red Alert for the N64 ?
+spraylings3000 oh my bad got a little mixed up thanks :)
I wish this series would return
Me too, needs to happen
They need to bring back the strike series games
I wish they would too, think EA still own the rights but not 100%
Enemy choppa!!!! Shot it downnnnnn!!!
visually i think it looks great, sounds seems ok too. so if the controls are as decent as you say i would probably enjoy this more so that the blury ps1 game
Desert Strike, SNES!
Great title 🥃
goooood
Agreed
I loved it.. on PC.
Not a cheap game now adays very hard to get it complete in box for cheap 150 plus
Yeah crazy how much prices have continued to rocket. I remember when this was £20 CIB at most
@n64glennplant never see that cib again for that 😆 🤣 many moons ago bud love the channel subscribe aswel
@@irishboy1097 yeah tell me about it, now people want even silly money for fifa 64 CIB 😂
LOL it seems so obvious now that this is part of the desert and jungle strike series but i never realized it when i used to rent this. I actually like desert strike but i didn't like this when it came out because i felt like the graphics didn't seem very good for an n64 game. I guess if i was comparing it to the snes strike games then i would have noticed how improved the graphics are compared to them
nate does anyone know the difficulty of this one compared to desert strike? i ask because i like desert strike but i always thought it was way to hard and i can barely get past the first level or two usually.
2:08 spectre logo
The reason why is because of what people "want" these days. People "want" (or are forced to want) games with big stories, pretty graphics and lots of shooting- oh and multiplayer too. Arcade-like games aren't seem as a worthy purchase for the $90 each new game is over here
That game is hard on ps1
Yeah it’s not easy
Do a review on Gex!! it is one of my favorite N64 games. There are atleast 3 of them. Please do the first one!! atleast
The first one wasn’t on N64. Just the second and third.
I played this on ps1
this was for the n64? what the fuck...never knew this.
+Kasey Pettit soviet strike is on the saturn
and ps1
my fav "strike" game is thunder strike for sega cd esp the dispatcher whiningthat im off-course and also the mission briefings
I'm the 20 000th person to see this video !
...
By the way, i love your channel.
Woohoo thanks for tuning in! 👍🔥
Unreleased frogger 2 video online now. Will PM you about it.
yikes! graphics look so washed out compared to PC and PSX versions...with the PC taking the crown
Second :)
