    The knot you have tied is acceptable only for gifts given at funerals. Fine if you are gifting for Americans but don't present this to Japanese (unless they are dead).

      Thanks for letting me know, I didn't know that. However, I never claim that this is a traditional furushiki wrapping tutorial and this is the only way of doing it. I just want to show people an alternative for wrapping paper. PS: I'm not american, nor japanese (but I guess you've already guessed the latter)

    I don't get how the underside "flap" doesn't just come undone when you pick up the package as it would seem you lift it and it opens. (For course I have yet to try this.. but will soon lol)

    Ok, but small point, to have the ends cross away from the fold is for funeral, you probably want them facing the same direction as where it folds from.

      Highjacking the top-comment for a quick PSA: other people already mentioned it, but this is not the right way to make the knot (at least not if you're gifting this to a living person.)
      The two tied parts should end parallel, and to perpendicular to their original position. Here is an example of the correct and the wrong way ruclips.net/user/shortsODS36bTZQ8M

      Hi, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "bottom piece"? Do you mean what the bottom looks like?

    • @RoMD
      @RoMD 3 года назад

      When you fold it, it looks as though the bottom just kind of the fabric will dangle.

    • @pointfulthings
      @pointfulthings  3 года назад +1

      @@RoMD The fabric is stretched quite tightly on the bottom of the gift. No dangling fabric :)

    • @ryandehaaff1601
      @ryandehaaff1601 3 года назад

      @@pointfulthings I think they mean the corner of fabric that's folded underneath the box at about the 34 second mark. Keeping the fabric taught doesn't keep it in place for me. I've used a little double sided table to do that.

    • @pointfulthings
      @pointfulthings  3 года назад +1

      @@ryandehaaff1601 thank you for clarifying! I think it depends on the surface of the gift and the kind of fabric you use! The fabric I used stayed in place, but if it doesn't: a bit of tape does the trick, indeed 😊!

    I want to sew a furoshiki. Can you tell me what are the dimensions please ? Really cooo video !

    • @pointfulthings
      @pointfulthings  4 года назад +3

      Hi Maya, thank you so much! It all depends on the dimensions of the gift you want to wrap. I recommend to use a square piece of fabric that's at least 3 times the size of the gift you want to wrap. For example: if your gift measures 15x20 cm, the fabric you use should at least be 60x60 cm. Hope this was helpful :)!

      I had some Ikea fabric (ikea BOMULL, 100% cotton) left over from another project I did. I cut out a square and finished the raw edges with my serger. You can use any type of fabric (cotton, linen, silk, ...), as long as it's lightweight and doesn't stretch. Hope this helped!
