@@comandantethorn9929 blowing up a military installation is not genocide. In fact blowing up Alderaan technically wasn’t genocide either, as it didn’t wipe out an entire species. Genocide is the targeted eradication of a specific population, that’s what distinguishes it from random killing. That’s why what the Empire did to the geonosians was genocide, because it targeted a specific species with the intent of wiping them all out.
How can you possibly make the claim the Rebels are doing the same thing as the empire? If the Rebels hadn’t destroyed the Death Star, it would’ve destroyed Yavin IV and killed everyone there. What would you expect a rebel cell to do in the fight against an oppressive empire? War causes casualties, the difference between the Empire and the Rebellion in the way they conduct war is that the Empire doesn’t give a shit about civilian casualties while the Rebels try to avoid them at all costs (hell some Rebels are civilians themselves technically speaking).
So, can you see the difference between destroying a military installation/weapon vs blowing up a planet with millions of innocent civilians? It’s not the same thing on a smaller scale.. that’s like saying in the real world that a targeted air-strike on a specific military installation is the same thing as nuking an entire city of non-combatants...

0:07/0:33/4:00/8:37/8:47/9:24 Hors de combat does not apply to retreating enemies. As long as they haven't surrendered, they are legal targets.
0:14 It's also legal to open fire on escaping prisoners. It's not legal, however, to execute them for such unless they committed a crime in escaping that warrants the death penalty.
If you pause 1:11 at the right time, you can also see that the _Gozanti_-class cruiser has two laser cannon turrets, so that's an armed vessel right there and is therefore a legal target.
1:48 is a gray area. It's technically legal to fire upon neutral targets if the rules of engagement say "weapons free," meaning "shoot anything that's not confirmed friendly."
3:19/7:45 is also a gray area. Rigging the TIE bomber with explosives is technically legal if used during or just prior to combat, or if it's near a legitimate military target.
4:00/8:50 Those stormtroopers are technically not defenseless, as they have their personal weapons on them. They're ill-suited against armored units like that AT-DP but they're still considered to be armed nonetheless.
6:48 I'd also say that those TIE pilots aren't technically defenseless. As long as they're capable of fighting-i.e. with their vehicle-they're legal targets.
7:35 The destruction of Jalindi station isn't necessarily needless destruction as it's a valid military target. According to the canon, Jalindi was a communications relay that also served as a tracking station.

Hors de Combat determines whether a target is still worthy of attack or should be protected.
For example, it is illegal to shoot fleeing enemies but if they are firing back while fleeing or regrouping in an area, then you can still mow them down.
The main emphasis is when an opportunity to take prisoners is presented, then it should be taken.
