My first experience playing a bard was back in my Ever Quest days. I did not start out playing the class as I thought the Druid was more my style, but after a year of playing, I decided to give it a shot and fell in love. What stuck out to me was the different play style than any other class. In Ever Quest, it was the only class that could “cast” while moving; this made for a fascinating play style and was probably, at the time, a nightmare for developers, but the class was free to try mixing all of their songs and play in many styles. The Bard was a jack of all trades, master of none. They didn’t have an Enchanter to control the mobs; the Bard could do it. They didn’t have someone who could cast haste or slow spells; the Bard could do it. While the Bard was never as potent as the other casters with its songs, it was versatile and could fit any group situation. The song twisting to have multiple effects was exhilarating as I could choose what was best to affect the entire group at the time. This meant there was a bit of thought in how to play and was often the distinction of a “good” or “bad” Bard. After Ever Quest, I began to play a Bard every chance I got. The idea that the Bard could inspire and magically affect those around them with words and songs is fascinating. I have always been drawn to support classes, which I felt over the years in the MMO community started to be merged into the Healer kits or sometimes the DPS. This saddened me as I thought the support role as an independent class was becoming extinct. I am excited to see the Bard support return in AoC!

Don't forget Dark Age of Camelot! They too had the 'bard' class. 10/9/2001 launch date. In DAOC, bards were Minstrels - Albion, Bards - Hibernia, and Skalds - Midgard

Lineage 2's bards were Op as hell, because your party wouldn't do nearly as much dmg w/o them. That's the first game I experienced bards in and why I love them.

What if there was some sort of music theory involved in the bards mechanics... That'd be crazy 😳
