      It really depends on the combo. Cubes don't do alot for you if you don't have the combo to take advantage of it. The tq will be better regardless though. That tfs3 cam isn't the best for this combo imo. A custom ground make a pretty decent difference imo. There are alot of factors.

      @@midnight347 I was thinking the same thing, that the cam might be holding this engine back maybe? Isn't the Trickflow R intake meant to shine above 5K RPM? But yeah, like you said, there are alot of factors that affect the characteristics of the power output

      @christopherw7648- The biggest reason for the Lower than expected power( peak Hp was @ 5k=😒😢)= this intake, followed by the small cam, and the last reason is the low flowing/cfm exh. System. They would pick up a lot going to a Box R upper, + have Big Dog's do a full stage 2 ported upper, Lower, spacer, and 90mm Tb= ALL ported. Get a Tfs stage 5 Hyd. Roller cam, followed by Big Dog's high flow stainless steel headers, and mufflers= Awesome combo!

      @@joecruz03That upper intake does not work as well as the Box R, from 3k on up to 7k! Heck all of the dyno tests ive seen, the Tfs street Burner, and track Heat both outperform this upper intake/combo. Most people think the Box R upper is only for high Rpm, but it does really well even down @ 3k Rpm!

    I think id cry if I built a 393 and that's all it made. And peak power at 5k?

Sure there is alot of room for more power ; always will be but it will never be apples to apples...the more we make , the more it cost to exceed that!! the 1st 450 hp is a ton less $$ than the next 150 - 200 hp esp in a N/A build!! I loaned it to my nephew, during his high school years, and he tried to make it look like a 5.0, and tried to get some power out of it, by changing the stock air filter to a K&N air filter system, and tried changing the tuning. He gave it a 5.0 body kit, and scoops on the hood. Then, he lost control of the back end,, and torn off the front bumper on a tree.. Now, I have a lot of work to do. 😊😅

    It's a stellar drivers car. Build it, drive it, love it. This combo would be near perfect for a 351. Since you asked about power, the intake port/valves are too small for this combination. A quick fix would be the Box R upper manifold and 1.7 intake rockers on the mild ramp rates and too wide lobe separation of that cam, and change to .650 lift springs. You wouldn't even have to pull the heads off to do this. Simply put, you built a larger version of the Ford Catalog 330 HP 302 GT40 engine. Ford has always gone too small on the heads and compensated with more camshaft. Chevy figured this out 25 years ago when they built the LS series. Bigger port, bigger valve, smaller cam. I copied their design philosophy with my 408W. It made 607 HP @ 6500 and 546 TQ @ 5200, and had 14 inches of vacuum idling smooth @ 800 RPM like a Camry.

      Would afr 220s be a better head for this set up?

    • @Mustang_Chris
      @Mustang_Chris 10 месяцев назад

      @5ohJ probably yes. I used Edelbrock 7721 heads. 355 cfm @ .600 with 2.125 valves, and Engine Masters competitors went up to 2.19. A bigger stroke demands more cfm at low to mid lift when there's a greater draw at the valve due to higher piston speed.

    Awesome build, thanks for sharing! A slightly larger cam and maybe a Box-R intake would give more on the top end. Could potentially run closer to 12:1 on the compression assuming you're using at least 91 octane gas (but with how well built the engine is I definitely wouldn't tear it apart to swap pistons). What about the tuning? The efficiency of a combination can be checked out by it's peak rwtq. I'd expect a well built 393 to have peak torque over 450rwtq, if it's low i'd look at tuning or a restriction.
    The heads are good for 600HP. Cam could be bigger with more lift, but it's fine. TFSR Intake should "flow" enough but what power band does it support?
    What's your Air fuel curve look like?
    Also everything shuts down super early. I'd expect a power peak north of 5500 RPM.

    Just wondering why the max hp was at 5k and not closer to 6k rpms. Why is the power dropping off? I would think the intake and throttle body could support the rpm for the cid 🤔 could it possibly need a bigger head?

    Seems a few Ppl in the comments feel the car should make more pwr than it did, I've been planning on putting that same combo in my SN95. Would you put a pwr adder on top of the setup or no???

    Decent torque number but something's obviously wrong because the HP curve drops from only 5000rpm. That engine should be making ~400rwhp at closer to 5800rpm. Dialed in properly, this would be a great street engine.

      All these experts in the comments don't see that though lol. They're all telling us about how their cam only ls1 made 380. It prob didn't make 410 tq and I gaurantee it wasn't peaking at 5k rpm

    My Dart SHP Block 363 makes far better power (Fordstrokers Built) almost everything else in your build is comperable.Curious I would've thought with 30 extra cubes you'd at least make as much. Still, that's a sexy little Fox you have there and sounds pissed off. I like it.

      ~450hp crank hp from 393 isn’t super amazing but it’s decent. There’s a bottle neck in this combo. My guess is a custom cam and box r intake manifold would put it over 400whp

    If a 393/408 doesn't make 500 flywheel, it's a dud. Its very very easy to make 500 with that. Especially having 11r heads? 205 is enough for a na 393.

    • @midnight347
      @midnight347 10 месяцев назад

      It's peaking at 5k clearly something is off. Cubes don't automatically make power you gotta have supporting mods and the combo to take advantage of the cubes. Idk why people don't understand this

    • @12anded
      @12anded 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@midnight347 I don't know why you're reading into it so deep. Of course, cubes don't mean power, but any 351 stroker or not, with 185cc or larger heads should easily make 500 flywheel. I don't support 95% of the EFI intakes and it could use a stage 4 or 5 trick flow cam if you're still staying off the shelf. Doesn't make up for how much it's down on.

    Don't those numbers seem low for the the displacement? About 20 years ago you could buy a complete Holley Systemax II set that could make about 370 HP on a stock 5.0L bottom end. Does anyone remember that set up? It came with heads, intake, and cam. They guaranteed it to make 350 HP and with a change in the cam to a lunati cam you had 373 HP.

My fuel injected 438windsor 68 mustang made 505wheel through a big stalled th400 and runs 9.90. If i ran a manual i would make 560wheel but car would be way slower. Believe me horsepower numbers dont tell the entire truth. And my car is a pure street car by the way. Big stalled th400 will annihilate any stick car guaranteed. Getting a Novi2k soon. Car only weighs 3k lbs. The launch is insane with 4k stall converter and full manual th400.
