Been listening to Jacob's stuff for a while now.... I'm completely mesmerized by this kid's talent and creativity. What planet is he from? :D Astounding... and SO FREAKIN' COOL...
Not to mention all the complexity that he throws in there. Seriously takes some skill to not only live loop yourself, but to add in the visual effects on screen, and how many instruments he plays geez...
Sorry but I've gone through some of these comments saying it's too much and he has a disconnection from the audience and I don't get it. This project is called 'In my room' not 'In your head', let him do him and if you like it then fine, if not then fine; you can not takeaway from his talent and his amazing ear for music. I'm so happy an artist can be himself and be successful, I just wish people wouldn't try to dictate what people should and shouldn't do, it's creativity, let it be free.
Obviously those people that think he has a disconnection to his uadience have never seen the clips where he has a 1,000 plus audience all singing in 6-part harmony . . And - by the way. . . How 'connected' is a symphony orchestra to the audience? How 'connected' was Coltraine to his audience when he was playing his heart out? A *GOOD* musician is NOT OBLIGED to 'connect' with an audience. . His job is to be connected to the MUSIC. . It's the job of the audience to LISTEN to the music and (hopefully) become 'connected' to the music. . DON'T TELL ME that this audience is NOT connecting to the music!!!!!!!
As a live looper myself the fact that he's doing this complex high level stuff and it's all phase-lock-looped without one problem blows my mind. So good musically too.
Nice to see another looper acknowledge this. The minority of detractors make the assumption that making / playing loops is easy. It isn't, not least because any mistake is magnified and repeated, putting most people more on edge. He seems to thrive on the risks he's taking.
I’m quite new to the Jacob Collier fandom. I must’ve been under a rock somewhere. Amazing ARTIST in every sense from curiosity to performance to personal introspection to audience inclusion, he delivers on all fronts! I just wonder how many calories he burns throughout the course of even one song. His energy is mindblowing!
never been so excited to see a musician grow. the potential, musicianship, virtuosity... basically everything is completely endless with this guy. no question Jacob will do some of he most amazing things in music for his young generation and I for one am not only grateful but excited to see the growth of this young cat
I've read some people say that Jacob in this show is somehow "disconnected" from the audience because he runs around and changes so many instruments. I have not seen it live (i wish i did so much) but i think that this is just perfect. Limiting himself to piano and voice could be OK, but this format shows so much of his talent, not just as a composer but as a performer too. And the world NEEDS to see his talent!! Do people even have an idea how much focus goes into delivering a performance like this? This is seriously the most incredible shit i have seen in years, maybe ever. Give this guy ALL THE SUPPORT you can, please!
I understand what you mean, but i still disagree. Obviously his incredible "circus" talent of being able to play tons of different instruments is something totally separate from his musical creativity. It could also "damage" the music a little bit, as you say. But my point is that this acrobatic stuff could help him get more popularity. It is just a MEAN to channel his music to the largest audience possible. After all, this is partly what concerts are about. If he had a band of great musicians, it would probably look more "normal" at first sight. Even though the music would still be incredible, it would stand out less to the "casual" listener. So if this "circus" type of show is something that helps him get to the big scene, i'm totally supporting it. He's still extremely young he has loads of time to put together a band and do all kinds of musical journeys with whatever ensembles of musicians. Anyway, whatever happens, this will still be remembered as one of the best displays of musical technique and versatility, at least that i am aware of :) . I hope you agree on that, at least :)
Totally agree, he hasn't compromised his musical integrity at all in doing this and has likely expanded his audience in doing so, exposing more and more people to deeper high-information music.
... never thought I would see the day that all those edits could make it into a live show, flawlessly like this ... it helps that Jacob is a monster musician .... BRAVO !!
You are showing us what lies beyond the next horizon of music, young man! Amazing, creative structure with super lush harmonies and complex rhythms! I never imagined music could be like this! You are blessed!
I can't believe what I just saw. It's like someone told him "Listen Jacob, just because you can play all the parts, doesn't mean you also get to perform all of them." and he was just like, "Oh yeah? OH YEAH?! Watch this shit." and made this. For him to still have stage presence while looping 8+ instrument tracks is what people mean when they throw around the word unbelievable.
There's a saying that science when advanced enough will appear to be magic. I would express the same sentiment about Jacob's music. What he does seems almost more like magic than just music. Musical magic to be sure but how does he do it? Absolutely brilliant.
He probably recorded most or all of the instrument tracks, and during the performance each track is probably armed in his DAW so that his live playing replaces the recorded stuff. I think the looping is also automated because I don't see him doing anything obvious to turn it on and off like stepping on a footswitch.
@@jordanbradford7729 Sounds quite possible. I'm still amazed at the vision and talent it takes to conceptualize and coordinate all of this so seamlessly. There are a lot of people who can juggle 3, 4 even 5 items. To expand on my analogy Jacob seems to be able to "juggle" dozen's of things all without losing the emotion and joy of the music.
I never thought that it would be possible. So complex, gigantic. My dream came true. So far I only heard something like this in my head. I am speechless and need a break to process.

this is the future
[Verse 1]
Stick and stones
I won't hide from you no more
And in time
I find what I've been searching for
Heard your voice
Calling out to me
I'm on my way
To where I can be free
[Pre-Chorus 1]
And if she won't wait for me, do it right, don't look back
Keep my heart on the future
On the soles of my shoes all the places I've been
That I've known since I knew her
[Chorus]
'Cause it's you, don't you know
That you're making me guess
That you're the one for me
That it's you that I guess
That I wanted to know all along
Girl, it's you that I want
That makes me complete
Cause you're the one for me
It's thanks to you that I guess
That I want you to know I belong
[Verse 2]
Every time
I lose my feeling true
I'll still work
To lead me back to you
In my dreams
I'm calling out your name, yeah
You're my beacon
Burning like a flame, yeah
[Pre-Chorus 2]
But as I fly on my wings through the night, don't look back
Now I don't wanna lose her
In the sky, all the sounds of the night, now I know
That I couldn't refuse her
[Chorus]
'Cause it's you, don't you know
That you're making me guess
That you're the one for me
That it's you that I guess
That I wanted to know all along
Girl, it's you that I want
That makes me complete
Cause you're the one for me
It's thanks to you that I guess
That I want you to know I belong
[Instrumental Solo]
[Verse 3]
Up above
The universe aglow
And the world
Is turning down below
Through the day and
Through the coldest night
Light my way
Give me strength to burn bright
[Pre-Chorus 3]
Now take me up to the sky, off my mind
Far away from the heavens below me
Make the storm in my soul
Give me strength in my bones
Now you're comin' to save me
[Chorus]
'Cause it's you, don't you know
That you're making me guess
That you're the one for me
That it's you that I guess
That I wanted to know all along
Girl, it's you that I want
That makes me complete
Cause you're the one for me
It's thanks to you that I guess
That I want you to know I belong
