I was first introduced to John Madden around 1993 or so through Ace Hardware and Tinactin commercials. I didn't play Madden until I was 12 or so, and that's when I discovered his greatness as a football mind. He's an original and no one will ever replace him.
The voice and soundtrack to my childhood. What a beautiful human being he was. Rest In Peace Coach. You will be dearly missed. I hope the younger generations will know you for more than the video game. Thank you for your contributions to the game I love!

Seeing big John and Vin Scully together brings to mind how much those two guys mean to their respective sports. Football isn’t the same without Coach Madden’s voice in the background and I have NEVER enjoyed baseball more than when Vin Scully was narrating the game. Wish Vin would do a few more World Series; I miss both these guys
I think I was the only kid growing up in NJ who was an Oakland Raiders fan! It was either Giants or Jets. I remember the Immaculate reception game, the Sea of Hands and all the other classic Raider games. Back then, it seemed like they were always the late game that was on each Sunday and I just remember this large, charismatic coach on the sidelines for the Raiders. IMO, the greatest coach ever. He just retired early or he would have likely had 4-5 more Super Bowl rings. RIP John Madden. You were one of a kind!
Watching football hasnt been the same since we lost Madden and Summeral . I always always wanted the game they called. True legends and nobody today even comes close.
Although i loved John as a sports caster i'll never forget him as the Raiders coach and the games where his players would dip their hands into the old stick-em LOL!!!! Of course the NFL had to ban it as they went crazy with it but it was funny as hell watching them do it. Ah man i'm gonna really miss him and i'm an Eagles fan😁😁 but him and Pat were the best back in the day!

I love those pics of Madden ranting and raving on the sidelines while Kenny Stabler is just chilling next to him like he's at the bar drinking a beer....
Great compilation. Watched another video of players under the coach saying unlike most coaches he knew your name, your wife name and kids names. Knew your home town and which college you played. Enjoyed sharing lunch meals. Any vocation with such leaders gets the best from their teams.
The thing I noticed bout Madden was he was the same size or larger than his players. As a lil guy back in the 70’s playing electric football with the older guys on the street, the raiders were my favorite team. RIP sir. When that commentator said “get your big butt out of here”, I lost it. Lol
I remember going to some guys house to watch a football game, and he turned on the local radio broadcast to do the play by play for the game. Perfect coach for a perfect team at the perfect time.
