The blonde woman going bonkers is Carole King. They were honoring her career that night. She wrote this song for Aretha. I don't think I have ever watched such a stunning live performance as this.

I think the very excited blonde lady in the audience was Carole King who wrote the song Natural Woman. Terrific song sung by the Queen of soul. Thanks guys for this one.

Aretha was amazing. Yes! Carol King was the one being honoured. A bit like Led Zeppellin at the Kennedy Centre. The Chaps reacted to Heart & co performing "Stairway to Heaven".

I loved this reaction. This clip is honoring Carol King who wrote the song. She knew Ms. Franklin was going to appear but did not know she was going to perform. Ms. Franklin had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had retired but came back to honor her good friend. I believe this was her last public performance, which makes it even that much better.❤

Carole King wrote this song for Aretha, I believe. Aretha was ill with cancer when she performed this, so a truly outstanding performance. Not surprising Carole King, who was being honoured, was so surprised to witness this. How can she sing like this in her 70s?

1st thumbs up and 1st comment...Thank u guys for your support of great artists (Morissette etc). Little known fact....when Carol King turns her head a the beginning she said "Aretha never plays the piano". Aretha was a world class pianist and her voice overshadowed her piano playing. When she performed live she would just be asked to sing so she rarely got to play and sing. Also, to ALL those young singers who might be watching......this is how you perform!!!! Show up...throw your purse on the piano...take names and numbers, leave... and let someone else do the body count!

Stephen Colbert was the host of the evening. When Aretha was introduced, he turn the stage manager and said he wished he had had the opportunity to see her in her prime. 45 seconds into her performance, he turned back to the guy and said, ‘I’m an idiot.’

*Bangin'* every day of the week. Brilliant Choice! Great Reaction. Aretha singing that well in her '70s. Amazing! Carol King ①, wrote "Natural Women". She was the curly haired blond woman being honoured, hence the ribbon, going nuts on the balcony with the Obamas. Aretha Franklin singing Carole King songs = Bliss 😂. My screen went all blurry! 😭 I've only seen Aretha play piano a couple of times. She was exceptional.
    Best Wishes, Chaps. ☮
    ①Wikipedia Carole King:
_"King is the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century in the US, having written or co-written _*_118_*_ pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100.[5] King also wrote 61 hits that charted in the UK,[6] making her the most successful female songwriter on the UK singles charts between 1962 and 2005.[7]"_ 43 years! 🤔
IIRC, Carole King's album Tapestry was the highest selling Album until MJ's Thriller, and the highest selling for a female artists for about ¼ century.

Ah, thanks for the fun comment, if you hang around us two for long enough, you will soon wee we both have no idea what we are doing most of the time, we spend zero minutes rehearsing and I am getting to that age where I find myself brushing my teeth 3 times as I forgot if I had already done them. Old age sucks.
