Bigger 2.4T engine means it's understressed and more reliable, with even bigger tuning potential too. Question is, is it still fun to drive, and what about its looks? even the oversea journalists are impressed with the cvt..many said its the best cvt on any car and it feels almost like a dct.
Shame that the US market gets a proper Recaro seat and a louder stock exhaust that is still barely passing JPJ standards. Say all you want about CVTs in general but here Subaru has made their CVT the best so far.

This project was originally inspired by the E36 M3 . It still is a good alternative to the Audi S3 or Merc A35. Subaru feels solid and drives well too.
If you buy and drive it for 10 years it will probably still hold its value and appeal to the enthusiasts then... It's perfect even when kept and driven stock.
One of its weaknesses is, its exterior looks. Its not an eye catching looks. Its just looks as an ordinary sedan. Subaru need to redesign it, so that its look more premium sporty and elegant.
I am not saying it's bad, the handling can be great, driving can be joyful. But for RM 290k, it is comes with too many flaws. Sad.

Great review. Definitely on the wish list of I had surplus funds (for a 3rd car) to spare; a true drivers car especially for us that came of driving age in the 90s.
But if with limited funds, the BYD seal would, I believe, be the wiser option; with a much more modern and luxurious design and interior.

Top up a bit more for BMW 330i , with corporate discount + some extra you can get it 302k.
it seems very soon we all will be switching to modern EVs. And those things are cool and refreshing, packed with all kinds of electronic stuff. But after buying one I personally realised I miss the old school ICE cars, and I'd like to have one of those to keep. And this WRX seems to fit this perfectly.
The build quality is great, the interior is much more premium, all sporty elements are genuine and functional. Whats there not to like?
And I don't understand why so many reviewers like to thrash the design, I fell in love with it instantly.
Overall it is a nice old-school style engine that keeps everything we like about ICEs and this one even has a rally pedigree.
The styling and exterior is a massive improvement but still not much compared to competitors.
Anyway, Subaru have the best domestic 2nd hand retain value in Japan, that tells you something about their engineering.
With this price range, the VW Arteon R-Line 4MOTION is more attractive.

@@bigglyguy8429 For the Arteon specifically, there are very very very little issues with the car lol... People would believe you more if you said their after sales etc was bad in the past 🙂

Is this the first subaru with signal on the right hand side?
No, my earlier XV had the turn signal on the (correct) right hand stalk. My new one has it on the left side and after months of driving I still cannot get used to it and keep turning on the wipers to signal. It is literally making me dislike the car. Such a small, petty thing but at my age I should not have to learn how to drive again; I've been driving for over 30 years and the damn signal is on the RIGHT! But not in this crappy car. I also feel the new one has none of the fun feel of my old XV, just feels stodgy. I hate to say it but I actually dislike my new Subaru. I thought I was just getting a newer version of my old one, but this feels like I'm driving somebody else's Camry or something. It feels too posh, too safe, too boring, and it nags at me a lot. I actually dislike it.
I've met one of the subaru salesman said that this wrx need to run RON 97. I hope he's wrong.
I dont get why he complains about the exhaust. Its pretty amazing to be this quiet and properly fast. Its better to be silent and fast than to be noisy with no go.

when did ever Subaru designed a car which looks good when launch?😁..their designs tend to grow up on you but takes years..thats why older scoobies looks really cool now...mechanically they are excellent performers..good handling dynamics and well balanced...this wrx is a very good car..all the money went to engineering which is better than the tranverse mounted mercedes plus it would outlast the german car in the long run.

I loved the Japanese Lambo and Ferrari slayers like the EvoX, but the lack of significant evolution of the WRX, Supra, and GTR is a demonstration of how the Japanese have been eaten up by the Europeans. The current Supra (Z4 copy) is pure....sadness

It's slower than the BRZ which has less power, no turbo, and no AWD.

@@xtrekrex that's the point. A stock WRX is supposed to be faster than a stock BRZ bit it isn't.
@@wwyk1993 who said so? BRZ is significantly lighter. WRX is only pushing 10 psi of boost. Double that and the entire game changes.
@xtrekrex yes, it's slower because it's heavier. Point is, Subaru is supposed to make it faster than the BRZ.
@@wwyk1993 no not really. Who said that? These cars are apples and oranges. One is RWD and lighter made more for track duty. The other car is AWD and heavier and made for real-world driving scenarios such as winter weather. If anyone knows a thing or two about tuning, then it’s not really a big deal to have a car be slow in stock form given the tuning capabilities of the FA24DIT. Let’s say all we care about it power and speed (though you shouldn’t even be looking at either of these cars). The WRX has significantly more potential than the BRZ for increasing power output.
