College education , in my opinion has nothing to do with it. I am not college educated. I understand the difference between facts and unproven or even disproven conspiracy. Trying to avoid being condescending, however I believe it comes down to rational thinking. Also being able to be critical in your examination of your views, beliefs and actions. Having true empathy and reflection. Problem solving, and skepticism. Basically intelligence.

All of Canada relates to your mom. Because we all said the same thing, pretty much ever since I was born. In school, we were taught a lot about WORLD History and WORLD Geography. And, then, our teachers would usually follow it up with a comparison to how the US system teaches the same thing, which is JUST American History and JUST American Geography. Is it no wonder that the average American can barely point out any Country, on the map, that isn't a major Country (ie Russia, America, South America, China). Most Americans, as much as they say they support Ukraine, couldn't point it out on a map. Just ask any random stranger... I challenge any American to do this simple experiment, and realize how centralized the American mind set is. I always joked that Americans think they are at the center of the Universe...

Agreed, we need to return to teaching "Civics". I didn't think much when it disappeared from our school curriculums but it needs to come back. Kids need to learn about Government and elections so they know how they work. They will be less likely to believe the lies. Each school should have field trips that include local and state government meetings. A presentation by County and State Election Officers at every high school to demonstrate the effort placed to make elections honest.
In Plato's Republic, police and teachers are the highest paid professions. They also require the most education and the greatest demands in honesty. Get the politicians out of our schools and police forces. Teachers know how to teach our kids, most of them have Master's degrees and are trained in child development. We force them to teach to "the test". We are hurting our kids profoundly.
Around 20 years ago China had 700,000 students in schools all over the world. We had about 70,000 and Mexico about 65,000. Who's playing the "Long" game here? China pays for the education of its kids, has raised 300 million chinese out of poverty. They will be the number one superpower. They will also have to liberalize. Having a significant educated citizenry leads to democracy. Democracy and Socialism are very compatible. Look at Europe.
We bought onto the "Globalism" because corporate america said we could send al the low paying manufacturing jobs out of the country and we would retain the higher paying service jobs. Academics was onboard and the liberals (normally Protectionist) reluctantly consented. In truth Globalism would have worked except corporate america saw an opportunity to make even greater profits. The manufacturing and high tech plants moved to asia, the intellectual property was given to the Chinese, it was not stolen. This normally would be a clever move, since technology changes so quickly. But the corporations left our kids out. They made a college education unaffordable and simply imported technical people from asia and india. Corporate America got the best of both worlds, all they had to do is buy out politicians.
China is not cheating, they are simply beating us at our own game. This is our game!

It is not question if there will be violence but when it starts. The US democracy is dying as it is not reformable and after the mid terms there will be a ton of people in positions of power who don't believe in it anyway. The US will become a mix between a quasi autocracy and a kleptocracy with religious undertones. The violence will come when the majority realizes that. If a surprise happens and there isn't a GOP takeover in the mid terms then the violence probably will start even sooner as now the far right will start the violence even sooner.

What's happening is prophetic go read the gospel of John and read to revelations and she's what Jesus actually said, and what his followers actually did, and what Jesus said will come for the final generation. Remember the Jesus of the Bible is not the same as that pagan image they bow down to, nor beads to rub and saints to worship. Mind blowing, but thankfully a just and holy God exist. Nothing will go unoticed. Wicked leaders for a wicked generation. Openly worshiping Satan and look how fast it changed. From Obama to Biden. Even crazier the endless dreams I had during obama of Chinese and Russian invasion. Mass immagration of crowds of illegals going house to house raping and killing everyone after a EMP attack. To insane earthquakes, civil unrest, military police lines, crowds of people with American flag mask on. Mind blowing to me how it's all unfolding. God is real and those dreams scare me to death, yet gives me hope because the one who comes with fire in his eyes to judge the world is also merciful. God wishes noone perish. Those are not contrary, they operate on different levels. One is about civility, and one is about thought control
Cancellation is about punishing and/or suppressing the expression of the wrong opinions, not about uncivil behavior. In Bill's example, saying that white lives matter too could get somebody canceled, no matter how civil and politely or even kindly that politically unacceptable opinion was stated. Thus the need to walk on eggshells in regard to the opinions and views people express (and to keep up with what's punishable today)
Rudeness and vicious interpersonal behavior are not a "cancelable" offenses in themselves. In fact, those doing the cancelling (like trying to get somebody fired for an opinion shared on facebook) can be quite vicious and rude and self-righteous. People do not need to walk on eggshells regarding being polite; nastiness is perhaps even becoming more common.
OK: nastiness so long as it doesn't involve wrongthink
Bad: wrongthink, no matter how polite and thoughtful
So there is no conflict between cultural trends towards viciousness and towards cancellation, they even can and do often go hand in hand.

For many years I have heard people criticize me because I have German ancestry. The comparisons of Fascism and Nazism are thrown out liberally at me. All this even though I live in Canada. The troubling aspect of it has always been well how could your people (meaning Germans) allow that to happen? I mentioned in 2016 that it could be easier than one would envision. If 45 was elected, America would be on that downward slide and should never ask the question ever again. As much as it pains me, I agree with Bill Maher. It is terrifying to think of what is going to happen over the next 3 to 5 years in the United States. I fear democracy there will be gone. Most troubling is that half of the population will stand up cheering waving the Stars and Stripes as it happens. The reality is there are more uneducated and uninformed people in the USA than any of us ever could have imagined. The experiment of self governing democracy will die.
Individuals that will come out of the woodwork and comment negatively on this, I thank you in advance for proving my point. None of you are worthy of an individual response from me. Instead I dismiss you for the fools that you are for doing mental gymnastics in a bid to accept lies. But I leave you with one thought. What did 45 actually do for you. Yeah back in the 80s, the chicken littles were running around talking about the planet Cooling and we couldn't grow any crops and we are all going to die. They just keep changing the names of this thing, global cooling global warming, climate change, extreme weather events. It's a planet spinning in space. It does what it does, and you're not going to change it by passing a law.

Imagine people still valuing Bill Maher’s opinion in 2022 …

Bill Maher plays the role of an idiot so well, I think his entire life he was in character.
