For anyone who's wondering what's going on with the maggots, maggots need, warm, damp, covered/protected, dirty conditions to grow. A sheep with dirt on them, in any months that can be warm and wet at the same time (basically late April-September) are the ideal environment. There's wool to hide in and grip onto, it's warm and moist close to the skin, and there's plenty of filth and flesh for them to much on. The best way (other than repellents) to keep them down is to keep the wool short in dirty zones via a Sani Shave (shearing of the sanitary areas like behind and genitals), because the shorter the wool, the less there is to grip, the less trapped heat and moisture for a healthy environment, and a lack of heavy rotting bacteria from feces building up in the wool. You're basically making it uninhabitable for flies and maggots by knocking down the house.

We chatted about all things farming as I do, and I asked him if he kept any sheep . He said he used to keep 15,000, but he was getting out of them and only had 1000 left. MAGGOT TAXIES he called them. Very funny.

I used Click earlier in the season followed by Crovect later in the season for the shorter withdrawal period. Important to apply the products from the back of the head down. I rarely had strike on this regime but ewes that urine stained their back ends were a problem. You have some really bad fly strike. Not sure the spraying is loading the fleeces the way a spray race would.

Great channel, keep up the good work. we used to travel from wexford to go around Kerry and west cork in the 1990s with my dad in a lorry collecting for either hacketstown or camolin sheep factory, some of the places he went were challenging with a four deck trailer, and no mobile phone for directions, great memories and met some great people. pitty we didn’t have pictures of that time. On the journey down
We used to drop pigs in Denny’s in Tralee that came all the way from wexford,
washing out the lorry clean enough for the sheep after the pigs was some craic.

The neighbour's sheep got maggots in early June and got them clipped and dipped. The wee b*****ds came back in mid July in the short fleece. Had to get them dipped again. Was told due to the amount of rain the dip was washed out of them and didn't last long enough. Probably the same as the click and you wouldn't have soaked them as well as the dip tank.

I have watched a few who have uaed the click extra which is the treatment that is supposed to stop the maggots growing mouth parts? I really dont know if the treatment works because if you used that on these sheep you are the 3rd of 3 Shepard's ive watched use the peoduct who ended up with fly strike within the time that the treatment window is supposed to last for. If youre gonna use again i would use less product and not water it down if you want it to be there shorter time.
