Yes, Logic Pro for iPad is pretty bloody good, but you might be surprised to learn that GarageBand for iOS is actually capable of quite a few things that Logic isn’t…

I like Logic but I still use GarageBand first….nothing goes to logic until I’m ready to really finish it. It’s amazing what GB can do.
That Kyle bit had me ROTF !!! The best way to work right now, IMHO, is to use both. Record your IAA and strings in GB and import them in Logic. For the effects, there's a search function to find by name instead of developers. Song sections is less intuitive but seems to work well. Cool vid, Patrick !
Yep, incorporating both into your workflow is the best way to go! Thanks for watching!
@@TheGaragebandGuideGlad you said that , duh.. I’m having a problem getting my head wrapped around logic for iPad .. I don’t know GarageBand well either and finally figured out I should learn that first . Thanks for this great video
Staying with GarageBand. The song section is something I use a lot as part of my arranging workflow, It flows over into Mac version in the arrangement track. The fact that it doesn’t exist in Logic Pro for Ipad is a showstopper for me. I don’t master in GarageBand I just use it to record tracks and arrange so GB still has everything I need.
Always use multiple DAWs.
Don’t forget the Funktion in GarageBand for iOS with the little smiling screen, that via the camera, makes it possible to use the Wah effect with your mouth 😊
Great video! I haven’t gotten a chance to really put Logic Pro through its paces, but it’s been awesome seeing the space grow.
This was needed to be mentioned , great video. Hopefully Logic can do something to resolve this.
Sticking with Garageband bro!!! Great vid
You can change the fretboard to violin in the surface setting menu. It allows you to slide the pitch up and down - you will want to increase the pitch end range in the strings instrument. But it’s not as good as Garageband as it’s not MPE. All held strings get moved in pitch.
I just love your presentation skills! So cool, relaxed and informative!
Cheers, Dennis 🇳🇱
Cheers Dennis, I really appreciate that.
Great video...sticking with Garage band for now...still learning it...a producer of my friend let me know I needed some compression on some instruments, so I'm tackling that in GarageBand /RUclips next; Compression 101
I'm sticking with Garageband thank you very much. No subscription apps for me!
I was thinking that same thing; then, weeks later, you’ve finally brought it up. Thank you. Being a one man band, I play stringed, keyboard, and percussion with real instruments. Final-Cut Pro might be good for that. Although I have Luma-Fusion, which might be sufficient. Nonetheless, GarageBand is actually great for quick for the amateur that I am. I don’t need too much anyway.
A glorified “Acapella” is what I want.
The subscription-free touch instrument playing surfaces and song section feature are the reasons I'm sticking with Garageband iOS for now. Awesome vid, BTW!
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Great video! And thanks for the shout out!
My pleasure!
Very funny, but all excellent points also.
I'm sticking with GB, but it's useful to see these kind of comparisons as folks get to grips with Logic iOS. I may dive in one day.
I still find myself using GarageBand more than Logic Pro.
Purely because I know it so well.
Hey, thanks for this video. I had this problem with Ravenscroft 275 piano but I found a workaround. I created a file in GarageBand using Ravenscroft to 75. Then open then opened it in logic pro seems to work doesn’t show up on the list but it works. Thanks for the bed.
I moved over to logic pro. But, I will edit and do a lot of things in GarageBand for the project and then switch it over to logic pro. One thing I noticed that is a real pain and have not figured out yet is if you transfer a song from garage band to logic pro, and you have a fade-out, you can’t get rid of it. Also trimming the head of a song where there was 4 blank bars in G band is a mystery to me in logic pro
Yeah, I’ve noticed that fade ins/outs are baked into projects shared from GB to Logic too. Weird.
Logic Pro is really good but shows how good GarageBand really is. I think quantitisation is better in logic. But for me I want somewhere in the middle, a few more functions in GarageBand but less of the bloat of logic.
Great job for showcasing the GB power! I think people might feel guilty for using GB cuz it surely doesn't look that pro level messy, but this free bait from Apple is actually really really good!
It definitely is!

Note: You CAN in fact switch out Logic Pro’s guitar fretboard for a stringed instrument’s fretboard and use string bends etc. I’m just an idiot - sorry!
Good vidéo. I mention that the version of Alchemy in Logic is more poor that the garageband version
Hah thanks so much for the shoutout Patrick!! :)
Dipped into Logic and I was expecting it to have most GB functions but hence I’m here looking at your video. I did get Tone-X and some great shimmer verbs so I’ll likely stay with Logic.. although I might start in GB.. but Logic will not open GB from Max OS projects
What if you like certain features in Garageband and you start creating your song in Garageband and bring it over to Logic pro for ipad??
I think you can monitor autotune through iPad mic on GarageBand but can’t really do it with Logic Pro because of latency. Logic pro is kinda clunky as is but great sounds. I really miss the sections rearranging format. Simple and powerful
Any Logic update with those features now?
Hi -- I'm a musician and I'm trying to decide between the 11 inch and 13 inch iPad Air 6. I mostly create video productions comprised of voice and acoustic guitar, but sometimes do projects that crank up to about 20 tracks, with submixes. I do like the more portable size of the 11", but am I likely to find the 11" a bit cramped for the more multi track projects?
GarageBand for iOS, 1. it's free with Apple devices. 2. No Subscription. 3. Loads of sound packs and instruments. 4. Has great drum machines plus 8-bit sounds. 5. Love Song Sections for arranging parts. 6. It's a fun app and great for pop, dance, disco and electro style productions.
So far, I like garage band more, but I’m still just using BeatMaker 3
None of these issues bother me. Logic is pretty much perfect for me and I couldn’t be happier
Yep, I’m loving it too!
One thing you didn’t show was the auto play chords? It Logic has that ? Oh they didn’t include that feature?
I'm wondering if anyone knows if an external DAW controller (like presonus ioStation) be used iOS Logic Pro?
For me, Garageband’s flat list of AUv3s is worse precisely because I have a lot of AUv3s. I don’t want to browse to find an AUv3 no matter how they organize them. I want to search. And Logic gives me search.
IK Multimedia TONEX doesn’t crash anytime you hit record in GarageBand either 😅
I’m still in my free trial of Logic Pro but I’ll definitely be waiting for some significant updates before subscribing.
Logic Pro on iPad? Never heard of it. Honest Guv. 😂 Also, Sarah McLachlan - nice and OMG, they killed Kyle. Those bar stewards!!
Apple really needs to make sure it's first update adds some/all of the basic features that are missing, along with any needed QOL things. For the plugin list, the option to sort it how you like should be added. If I recall correctly, GB can also export midi (with a workaround) I believe. Yes?
Bring in the features of Garageband into Logic where they can. I'm finishing up a project in Logic Pro and was going to start using Garageband on the Mac next. I just know Garageband. Logic Pro is a learning process...I've forgotten why I need to know. I'm throwing in the towel on Logic Pro.
LOL. I haven't done anything with it yet. :)
Thank you Patrick. Today I tried to make a list of apps that are compatible with Logic Pro and I realised that not only Iaa but also Auv3 can’t be supported. Neither instruments as Ravenscroft, AudioKit, lumbeat, all of them and many many more. My free month of Logic Pro is about to finish soon so I ll give it a kiss and goodbye and back to business with AUM and Gb. We spent a lot of money on every app and it’s not fair at all. If the developers will listen to us and make big changes maybe I’ll download it back but then will be over 30 gBytes so… no chance….there’s nothing to do but to delete it. Peace bro.
Logic Pro for iPad DOES have auv3, doesn’t it ?
I know you mentioned the apps won’t ever be integrated, because they’re trying to get away from that. But, are any of the other features going to be added or improved in the future, that you know of?
I’m not sure honestly. Apple aren’t big sharers when it comes to their app update roadmaps.
Haha, true.
Hello. Can you think of a reason why the studio strings instrument pack is not under the sound library?
In GarageBand?
@@TheGaragebandGuide Yes, on the ipad it's just not there!! Thanks for answering.
Sorry, just got that. It's for LP!!! I wonder if my LP on my Mac has it?
There isn’t a studio strings instrument pack in GarageBand. There is in Logic Pro for iPad, but not GarageBand.
I'm pleased that Apple gives iPad users a choice of GarageBand and Logic Pro. I'd be more likely to use GarageBand if I had a modern iPad, because I will not subscribe to software. The tech industry wants us to believe that subscriptions are the future and you need to rebuy your hardware every 2-5 years. Both of those concepts are bad for consumers. Also, get off my lawn!
Jeezzzz… does this mean that I can’t use my beloved AmpliTube app in Logic Pro?
I’ve bought the whole pack with all the amps and effects… I have also created a lot of presets in AmpliTube that I find a lot more realistic some sounds that are included in GarageBand!!!
I can’t believe Synth One still doesn’t have AUV3. This was promised ages ago.
Limitation of the code used I believe. Audiokit are planning on releasing a free sequel this year though.
1:48 WHAT APP is THAT??
It’s touchscaper. It’s fantastic, really wish it was AUv3.
Having Garaageband and Cubasis on ipad and Logic for Mac (which I rarely use) I am happy with what I've got and won't be using Logic until I see significant improvements. Cubasis handles Midi well for external geaar and it's audio recording is also very stable. I prefer the colourful UI. My opinion on Gagaeband concurs with yours. Garageband for a time was even ahead of Logic Pro for mac with it's looping session view drummer and smart instruments. You also forgot to mention the DJ effects Garageband has which are very usable.
The DJ effects are one thing that Logic on iPad DOES also have!
@@TheGaragebandGuide I am still in support of Logic Pro for Ipad. I see it as a catalyst to persuade plugin developers (Spitfire Audio pay attention!) to port over to IOS.
@@TheGaragebandGuideYes , it does! You’re correct
Why not add a second channel for Logic Pro enthusiasts?
👀👀👀
Lol...Everyone is tragic over Kyle...Of there's a real Kyle somewhere, he probably really flattered😂😢
Oops, already removed GB from my iPad 🤭 Yeah, the plugin selection needs to be reworked… 😕
Logic Pro for Windows
Lol… interesting.
GarageBand is the winner. Subscriptions suck. Logic Pro is not logical.
The difference you mentioned is enough to put me off from subscribing to logic pro ipad
I had no interest in Logic Pro before watching this. Since watching it, I REALLY have no interest in it!
Logic pro for ipad doesn’t worth the money in my opinion, at least until support external vsts
Logic on Mac doesn’t support VSTs either. Do you mean Audio Units? Desktop plugins don’t work in any iOS DAW - it’s down to developers to port their products to be AUv3 compatible.
GarageBand for IOS is great, but what about us folks that still use computers. It would be great to see some new updates for Mac. I find it much more user friendly.
Yep, though I’m not sure if it when Apple will add any extra features to the Mac version. New sounds should continue to come though!
started with GarageBand. will end with it.
Good wabbit!
Another imortant thing GarageBand can do and Logic can't is to be FREE
I’m so pissed off that Apple still won’t fix the bug in iPadOS 16.5 that stops it charging whilst using the USB CCK adaptor…It’s been over a month..FFS. Apple, this is appalling service….you are aware of it and ignore us.
Ios beta 16.6 restores that
Fix is coming in 16.6 apparently. Annoying that the issue isn’t worthy of a hot fix though.
Garageband is good than logic in many ways
NO AUDIOKIT! GTFO!!
Other Audiokit Apps do work.
It won't be long before Apple drops GB. They dropped iWeb and I still use that. Just about.
Why would they do that?
@@TheGaragebandGuide Money. Oh, they won't dump it. They will make a product which won't support it.
@@jean_mollycutpurse_winchester Hopefully it wont go the way of Music Memos...
@@astrojoe88 Apple won't drop GarageBand iOS/Mac, just because they have Logic Pro for iPad doesn't equal an end to GB. Buying an Apple computer, phone, iPad you get the benefit of it's included apps Pages, Numbers, iMovie, GarageBand etc...
I’m not sold on logic for iPad especially with it being a subscription and you never end up “owning” logic for iPad. GarageBand is good enough, you get to “own” it and it’s more than a wee bit cheaper than logic. Logic for Mac OS is a different story though ✊🏼🥸👍🏼 Fanx For Askin
