Why I Wear The Same Thing Every Day (Minimalist Wardrobe)

- It seems as though I get asked this question on a daily basis. Today, I will answer as to why I choose to wear virtually the same thing every day.
There are roughly five reasons as to why I choose to have a minimalist wardrobe.

Wow.. i love black shirts..😁😁
That’s why I don’t stop at red lights. Saved about 3 months so far.
Going to the bathroom is a waste of time too
Nate O'Brien absolutely. That’s why you wait till you clock in at work. Get paid for what you’re skilled at.

I used to do this when I was 2 years old. Same diaper outfit everyday. Life was simple. But I couldn't afford anything else.
I just used burlap bags as diapers. Saved lots of money
🤣🤣same diaper

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂 Cute!
I used to wear a bunch of colors and crazy styles, trying to keep up with others and trends, but recently I switched to wearing very basic outfits, and I actually feel much happier! Instead of worrying about keeping up, I cam comfortably look like myself every day. Great video, Nate.
Same here. I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only person feeling that way. I used to think I have to wear eclectic/eccentric style to "express" myself or decorate my place that way, so that others would see me as a "cool" person. I started feeling lost in colours. I realized I shouldn't let what I wear to define who I am, or waste time worrying about how I look when life is offering much more than that.
Can confirm, when I met Nate, he wore this - he’s legit 👍

As a young adult woman(21years old) in this society I usually do the 3 color rule in my wardrobe. I only buy simple and quality pieces in gray, black and white. It really helps minimise yet mix and match all of what I have. Plus it doesn't come off repetitive, or at least I think no one to little people notice 💁. It's not their business anyway
I started wearing the same color wardrobe after I got heavily tattood. Most of the shirts I had clashed with the art, so I started wearing gray. I work from home so I don't need to dress up so I got rid of everything that didn't suit. Then the minimalism trend started and I realized I was ahead of the curve for once in my life.
But you're right; it does save time. Laundry is a no-brainer. Most of what I have comes from online second-hand stores, so I save money on clothes. It's been a lifestyle change that's made my life easier.
I always dress in black. Clean, classy and serious. The same brand . Quality no quantity.
Which brand?
Wearing scrubs at work taught me a "uniform" outside of work makes taking care of my wardrobe simple...and as you say, saves $$
hmm interesting
This happened to me as well. Working at a car wash.
Others when they wear black: chic and badass
Me when I wear black: suspicious and threatening
Same!
You can wear orange
There are people who find hangers threatening? Weak
Go for neutral colors, they always look expensive and suit a lot of people
Same😅
I have a hand full of things that I wear interchangeably, remember the wardrobe or materialistic things do not make you the person you are.
Saves so much space too
I am the same way. Idk if it's laziness or the fact that less choices in my life actually makes me happier. :)
Little bit of both
Me too

During my usual workweek, I wear 5 assorted T-shirts; the same pair of jeans for the week (they don't really get dirty doing my work); and I alternate between 2 pairs of shoes. Fresh undies & socks daily, of course. The only choice I spend time on is which T-shirt to wear this day.
Doing this keeps clothing out of landfills 🌱
Makes getting out of the house and off to work easier each day
Very true!
I adapted wearing black about two months ago, I agree it's so easy and simple when shopping or doing laundry. I also just finished doing the 30 day minimalist declutter challenge yesterday, it was incredible! I realized how much I've spent and can save now, and living a simple life can make me so happy :-)
I love watching your videos because we're almost polar opposites. I'm not a hoarder but I love having things, and a I have a passion for fashion. It's lovely to see someone on the other side of the spectrum
Literally in the middle of a MASSIV closet clean out. I’m here for this!
Bro this video is so great. I've watched so many videos on minimalist fashion but this video really helped me the most! Your tips on wearing black (no stains, wash together) are SO helpful! I'm going to try to cut down on my wardrobe and try to piece together an outfit I can wear to university everyday!
I was a fashion business major and i absolutely thrive on getting dressed up every day and changing up my look but this was an interesting watch, i respect your minimalistic ways haha
I love wearing all black everyday! Can be dressed up or down. Definitely saves time having to think of what to wear each day..
People will remember you better if you always wear the same outfit. "

I do something similar. I have an outfit for each day of the week. Makes it easy in the morning to get dressed. No guessing involved. Thanks for posting.
I bought some books on minimalism, actually about 30 books.
mind sharing it?
OMG people in the USA spend around 160 dollars a month on clothing?? I spend that amount a year on clothing and I am doing fine....Very refreshing to see a young man like yourself being sane and spreading the sanity! Good luck! Love from Germany.
I love how there are so many ways people discover minimalism!
The one Thing I have more of than warren Buffet: Time. Can i Consider myself rich now?
Yes
My econ professor would say yes
But they will compound negative every day.
If its time Well spent, yes. If its time where you dont know what to do, maybe feel depressed...No.
Niklas Gster That's just a guess, don't take it for granted. No one knows for sure how much time they have left, so make the best out of it. YOLO.
I live in Florida and work at home so pretty much all tshirts and shorts for me, wahoo! And thrift stores work for almost everything as well as helping the environment by keeping stuff from going to the landfill!
I highly recommend Woolite dark. Keeps your black clothes looking brand new much longer. A few dollars more expensive, but well work to preserve black/dark blue clothes. And it's Woolite so very gentle.
Interesting 🤔
"Please take all my stuff" - Every minimalists
Yeah. 😂 I dont even know what to do with them..
I am just starting.. with this lifestyle .
please do make a video about your history-ish (?) - how your family influenced you to save in a very young age. the things that molded you to be minimalist, invest at 18 years old. and so on. i love your vids so much. and i think i like you lol you're attractive, as well as your attitude and mindset. i cant find those features on boys at our school so good thing u exist
as a girl and a shopaholic I will not be doing this lmao but i def agree with cleaning out your closet and finding pieces that are most functional and that you can actually wear on a regular basis.
I’ve recently added a new constraint of only purchasing solid color tops that are black, navy, or grey. I enjoy a little variety, but love the more simplistic approach to my capsule wardrobe.
I'd say simplifying your wardrobe also reduces one's carbon footprint.
Your videos are insane in the best way possible. Thank you for sharing all of these gems 💎
When you're as handsome as you are, one or no outfit is acceptable
Ewww 🤮
looool
That's a fact.. Lol.

Right
I have actually worn the same clothes for over 9 years. Same shirts same colors, just have a bunch of the same thing. I love it. Great video and keep Saving Money.
Cool "spice things up...summer" shirt. 🌺🤙🏻☺️
And when the black color tends to fade out, it's easy to dye your garments in your washing machine. You get them as brand new!
This man live a simple life and I love it
"didn't work out for her too well" haha, well said.
my mom said that fashion are "go around". I mean old is gold. so now I wear some of my mom cloth for working. I believe nothing is wrong in fashion as long as you comfortable with it. Nice video!
I recommend to watch this documental name the true cost on Netflix
The True Cost? I'll check it out.
Awesome vid Nate. I usually end up with a lot of black, grey, and blue outfits anyway so this one really show that I'm not alone.
Neutral colors are the way to go
I wear same clothes each and everyday, mainly jeans and polos I buy for years, same exact model each time, only buying when I need a new one AND it's on sale at my target price. Quality but not pricey.
There is another advantage: you will have a "style" that will make everyone recognize and identify you at first glance!
I think it's the most underrated quality of wearing the same clothes each and everyday.
So choose wisely, basics are timeless, and my polos are also black to survive bbq attacks!
Beside by being smart, intellectual and funny you are so handsome 😍 😊
Get some wooden hangers!
Will prevent clothes from stretching and avoid the pinched fabrics on your shoulders.
Plus wood naturally absorbs moisture in closets too.
Financial Shinanigans how does it prevent stretching? Thanks for the tip tho
Appreciate the tip
@@KatDog7 wire or plastic hangers r narrower than wooden hangers so the shirt's shoulder line typically extend further than the ends making them droop n stretch. Wooden hangers r wider so this is prevented.
My typical daily outfit: dark blue jeans, brown and black walking shoes (currently Sketchers) and a black t-shirt. No collars. No pockets and above all, no logos. I'm a man, not a billboard. You want me to display your logo? You're going to pay me to do it.
Glad you agree on the logo part
@krispy kreme To each their own, guy. Doesn't matter to me.
One other reason is I hate choosing what to wear,I hate clothing shopping, so definitely agree with you
I began shifting this way about a year and a half ago and frankly it is probably one of the best options of course I did add in a little mix of some other colors to my wardrobe but I also still have some business attire for when I do have to actually wear a suit or actually dress up as a professional but for my day-to-day business casual or casual pretty much just went down to some basics pretty much what you talk about in this video and you know there's a lot of benefits of going that way.
I've started to get my wardrobe more minimal too, because I changed as a person. It really is way more easier to know that basically everything in your wardrobe goes with each other. The only things that I own that don't work with everything that well together are some unique pieces that I simply love and the clothes that I wear at home. There I just take the first thing on the top and that's it because I want to be comfy when I'm home and do some work or study :D
When it comes to choosing the things I want to wear for the next day, I simply do that mentally while I can't do any other thing. For example while I'm cooking or on the subway. That's a way how I use the "lost" time there too.
I went to goodwill stocked up on winter clothes about 60 bucks few things from Walmart helps alot thanks for your videos
Goodwill is an excellent option, especially if you are faced with a low budget
Goodwill is an excellent option, especially if you are faced with a low budget
Great points. I personally only wear black, gray, hunter green and occasionally white. The only reason I mix in hunter green and white is to just show others I'm not wearing the same clothes everyday lol. Most of my jeans are all shades of gray and black but my go to favorite outfit is plain black T with medium gray jeans. 👌
So minimalist that he won't even display his youtube creator award. That's dedication.
WTG! Aloha with the summer shirt! lol, I like it though. It's incredible man. I wish I had your financial IQ at your age. Re-building my life from scratch (literally) at age 43 (almost 44) here (I think it's a good topic for a video: I see many people re-directing their lives at this point). Greetings from Lima, Peru and keep the good job. Congratulations and tons of good vibes!
You got this!
Decision fatigue. That hits me hard. Maybe could you consider making a video on this topic ?
5:45 that shirt is a blistering threat to your minimalism my guy. watch out!
I am worrying about time while Im watching RUclips wasting my life lol. great video though !!!
Very interesting topic Nate! Your videos have been increasing in quality, it’s awesome 😁
*I see you steve jobs* 💪🎭

"I change my clothing everyday" 😂 don't worry we believe you
I was confused though.😂 I thought he’s wearing the same dress every day!😝
Time is the most precious & valuable thing ever hands down!
I wanted to do this, but my wife wasn’t about it 😕
I always was minimalist....but i didn't know It.
I don't take time thinking in my outfits and almost all the time i wear black clothes.
Was a great video!.
I would recommend UNIQLO more than H&M, their clothing have more quality for the price.
Where do you even find UNIQLO tho? It's like only in New York
@@winnmatthews you can buy online
I saw a load in the US and Canada this year. Denver, Toronto, Chicago...
I wear one color socks, white. No matching for a half century because everything matches. I don't have to comb my hair either, but that was out of my control.
I don't even wear socks hahah
I do too LOL--Essentially two outfits. I have multiples of everything for everyday casual work from home, plus multiples of everything for dressy professional meet with clients.
I have 2 batches of laundry. The Blacks which include most of my pants, jackets, and towel. And the Whites which include my bed sheet, blanket, and pillow cases.
Shirts?
Haha it's a given. But yeah, I only have black and white shirts. With a few greys.
Skrillex called, he wants his style back
I wear mostly black and dark blue tee shirts, jumpers and jeans. I also hike, so lots of technical gear for all weather conditions, and a few cycling clothes. I have branded trainers (sneakers) and smart casual and smart shoes, a couple of suits (black and grey/gray), formal shirts and one tux. If you have clothes you never wear or wear rarely, maybe time to give them to charity shops. Go through your wardrobe and place clothes in categories: jeans and casual trousers (pants), casual and formal shirts, tee shirts and other casual tops, jumpers (sweaters), underwear drawer, sock drawer etc. As you wear stuff through the month, once laundered, place it on a separate rail - not back in your wardrobe - or section off your wardrobe. Anything from your wardrobe you wear, do the same thing. At the end of a month or two, you will see what you wear regularly hanging on that rail. Now open your wardrobe and see what you can easily sell or give away from the never-wear clothes in there. Fold these items and take them to the charity shop or put them on eBay. Anything you might need or need occasionally (formal clothes for special occasions, snow gear etc) can now be pushed to the back of the wardrobe or hung elsewhere. Now place all of your regular wear from the clothes rail back into your wardrobe in their various categories. You now have your perfect clothing that you know you wear all of the time. Reducing colours and styles means you can mix and match easily, so adding colour/color to your outfit is easy - a red, blue, yellow, green, purple or pink blouse will work with black pants for example. A black dress can be accessorised with any colour - scarf, bag, shoes etc. A white shirt will go with blue, grey or black jeans, and so on. Just a few items can in this way make up outfits for an entire week - they look different but are all combos of the same few colours and styles. Job done.
Wearing black makes me feel stylish smooth when it's so simple.
Great video as always. But I dont think choosing a cloth is time saving. it is a matter of few seconds. then to buy the clothes you need to spend money on them. So minimalism actually costs you.
You forgot Albert Einstein too! :D
trueeee
I Prefer wearing black too and only buy black its super practical. All the other colors I have are just given to me.
I love fashion so yea .... but I completely agree with this!
“It didn’t work out to well for her” lol your dope bro!
Hi Nate, I’m from Mexico and I really like your mindset, also I can improve my English watching your videos, te mando mucho amor
I'm glad I never had a sense of style or cared about it. It saves a lot of time, energy, and money! So long as you know how and when you should present yourself, who really cares what you wear, right?
Good suggestion here. I like to be efficient and thrifty. However, I also like to have a little fun. That means buying and choosing a diversity of clothing. Everyone is different.
Great video! I think jeans and a t-shirt are timeless. You can go dress casual or total sweaty blue collar and still look good. For me, I absolutely love wearing the Gildan Softstyle tee with whatever blue jeans I want. No logo and looks good with any blue jeans I feel like wearing.
You're literally gorgeous, you'd look amazing even if you wore a trash bag.
If you're just looking for solid colors, including whites or blacks, you can get Gildan shirts from online bulk stores for around $3.00 each.
Okay for men, women are already incessantly criticized for what they wear.
Just Say No to Pseudoscience Only if their tits or ass are hanging out. I’ve been working in customer service type jobs and dealing with the public ever since I was a 16 year old girl, and I’ve never been criticized for my clothing choices-not even by assholes. If you’re being “incessantly criticized” for what you wear, you’re probably dressing outlandishly. Most people don’t actually care.
@@TheCyberianHusky very true.
I work with 4-5 women... I don't remember what they were wearing yesterday. Nobody actually cares what you wear as long as it clean.
I loved this video... SO, since the last few years even I'm using this same very thing, and somewhere deep in my heart, I knew all the reasons, but I couldn't pinpoint those reasons before watching this video. So, thanks for making this video, coz u have given a voice to my thoughts.
I don't spend time thinking about what to wear but I have a variety. I fold my clothes similar to how they do at the mall (trifold front facing), it takes me less time than hanging them up (I know a quick way of doing it).....this gives me 2 positives:
1. clothes out of the laundry get folded and put right on the stack at the back of the shelf. I simply grab the next shirt that's on the front of the shelf, and push the stack to the front when I run out.
2. I don't have to look for the tags to find the "front" (most of my clothes are printed tags)....since they are all front fold facing, I can pick one up and put it on without looking.
I rotate all my clothes pretty much the same way.....and bonus (for minimalist mindset), if I come across a piece that either doesn't fit, I don't "feel like wearing it," or is ripped, it goes in the charity bin or trash right away. I don't have clothes just lying around in a box hoping for nostalgia, it's just clothes.
I feel like guys can get away with this but not girls 😅
IKR! What I do is, rotate about 20 pieces of clothing when I do go out. Helps quite a lot with getting ready quickly.
Limiting belief
Red that’s a great tip thanks 😊👍🏻

same pairs of socks is also a tip: you don't have to look for the other because each one matches another, saving time and stress. I have learned this from other sources =)
I was just thinking the same thing!
I have 20 pairs of socks, all exactly alike.
When I get to the last 2 socks, it's time to wash a load of socks and start over.
I started wearing same colour cloths from yesterday
If Steve Jobs were alive, he would have probably liked this video for the youtube algorithm.
Where would the world be if he was still alive? I can't imagine
I started wearing all black years ago..black jeans black boots black shirts and a beanie everyday but I've always been alt./ metal head type
Buy the same tshirt in black 5 times is not minimalist is just lazy. You dont need in fact a tons of cloths or buy every trend,, but you can make a nice woredrobe with a few interesting pieces and some basic. It takes me 15 mmin to get ready in the morning and look put together. Plus is good for creativiity ,, style is not difficult as some ppl try to sell ,, Is fun if u try. 😉
I have 4 t-shirts, 3 polos, 2 long-sleeve henleys, and 1 button-up shirt. And I wear each piece at least twice before washing it.
Love your POV. If you wanted to explore a bit more out of black, just develop a neutrals wardrobe, for example add in different textures of black and or include white for a few shirts?
This make so much sense- the simpler the better. You inspired me to start my own channel 🤗
I've said this before but I like it BEST when you're wearing black. 🖤🔥💞💯
Great to hear I'm not the only one with terrible fashion sense! I just wear black pants and a selection of printed black t-shirts
