In my most Heath Robinson of studios, I unknowingly have many of the right components and habits in place now. Thankyou SO much Scott, for sharing this with us. The hard work was worth it! 👍🎯🍺🍺
What a wonderful trip down memory way. Thank you! I spent so many days in the studio making minute changes to craft the image just so. Students have no idea of how much work goes into a seemingly "simple" picture of a product until they follow along and see for themselves. Bravo!
Scott your mention of how the client will bring bottles without labels and labels separately to get the perfect result for the shoot brings back memories. As a young photographer a couple of our clients were large consumer products companies that included toilet paper and paper towels in their product line. When it was time to shoot a new wrapper, the client would have half a semi-truck of product delivered to the studio. The day before the shoot the product manager would show up with a roll of the new wrapper design. Usually a test run from the printer. They (product manager and two or three of their assistants) would then spend the day hand wrapping rolls of the product to use for the various setups. Side benefit was they left all the product after the job. So we never had to purchase those consumables at the store. LoL
That’s fricken awesome! It’s good to see how a working professional does his/her job. So much to think about. Especially the lighting. Love the shot with the bubble centered on the spout!👍🏼
i have to say my pet peeve is showing up for a shoot and nothing is set up and i as a client has to answer all the questions of what are we doing all over again and sit and wait while the photographer sets up. So good on you for wanting to figure it out ahead a time.
I knew about doing product photos and the problem of labels being crooked, which is why lighting and shooting the label is often a separate undertaking and then it's added to the photo later. But I didn't know that blank bottles and individual labels are things that are sometimes bought for the client. It seems the client (which I guess even though an ad agency does the hiring, ultimately it's the brand that is the client) would provide those things for the photo shoot.
This video is fantastic. I love every bit of it. Thanks. Please do more videos like this. It's great to learn by watching. I got so much great information from what you said and watching the shoot.
Love this content - both seeing the way you work with crew and how different gear is rigged and then adjusted is so useful. Could’ve potentially had a gopro mounted on the camera to capture the adjustments from the camera’s angle, but not important. Hope you can do more similar videos to this.
So good to see the inner workings of this! As someone who has only danced around the edges of product and still life work I find the setup and effort fascinating! Quick noob question if I may, what is the purpose of having these images…did you say you would try and pitch them to the respective companies after the shoot?? Or for you to be commissioned to do something similar in the future?
Fantastic video showing your process and workflow! Im curious, what is the need for shooting with warm tungsten lighting? And how does that warm lighting match with the cool white flash from the strobes?
They don't! The tungsten lamps are just modelling lights to aid both the composition and focussing process and have no influence on the actual exposure.
Could you please clarify what you meant when you said as a pro you need to know when 'good enough' is enough vs. keep on going until you get it right? Sorry maybe I misunderstood, but these seem to contradict?
@@paologarzara3872 Right, I'm wondering why more it wasn't used, not if it has the capabilities. I've never shot with a tilt shift so im not sure if that's one of it's capabilities.
If it's anything like mine, I've never tripped over it as it's noisey, but I regularly hit my toe on all the shit it's knocked over on its daily rampage

this is the content I come here for 👌🏻

Thank you so much. Such a great video, as always. Love your channel and your down to earth way of telling us like it is.
The Roomba is hilarious!
Hey, this was inspirational man. Those shots at the end have inspired me to take some pictures of something like that.
Awesome ! The images are worth the hard work.

absolute gem!
Thank you, Scott and the Team, so much for sharing this shoot - much appreciated!
Love the true to life video take!
Great insight into process! Thank you for this!

Thanks Scott!😀
Great insight into a test shoot.
Amazing shots dang, I hope I can get to that level
Besides the excellent content here, Im relieved to know my Rhumba isn't the only one that always seeks out where I am.

I love working alone but this stream has me wanting company. Maybe I'll start with one of my kids 😅

Your partner is an expert baker and you’ve got supermarket snacks! 😂 Also missed Moggie
Thanks! Great video!

Do you think there would be value in having the computer where you don''t have to turn around?
True! I also have my computer behind me!
I wonder if shooting with tilt shift would have helped fix the perspective warp that has the bottle leaning over like that
the cambo is has both tilt and shift movements
Crazy catch, maybe it’s just a matter of rotating the actual image.

@@marcinskalij1526 Not sure, the curves of the bottle on each end are unequal. Could certainly be fixed in post though.
looks fun mind you
0:08 - the pop .. that's a really powerful strobe, I thought, multiple thousand Ws. Or was it
Important question Scott, how many times have you tripped over the roomba?
If it's anything like mine, I've never tripped over it as it's noisey, but I regularly hit my toe on all the shit it's knocked over on its daily rampage
@@chrisogrady28 I reckon I would end up kicking it across the room by accident whilst on the phone or in the zone with headphones on! 😅
Three of the products on the table at 13.17 look like you shot the artwork. Coincidence?
The first advert that poped up was...Fairy Liquid...coincidence? 🤔
So, what does your kitty think of the Roomba? Mine would probably be hiding under something in the corner.
Nope, I walk and talk too 😅
First step in taking an epic photo? Get out your foam paint roller 😃!!

Literally cannot sit still if I'm on the phone.
So, where are the bubbles? After all the talk about bubbles, there were no bubbles in the end.
Not sure what you are looking at, but I definently saw bubbles on the final shots
