Peter Coulson, my hats off to you for putting all the "haters" comments aside and for being the better person and SOOOO GENEROUS by sharing the experience of what Profesional Studio is and looks like! So many of us will never have that experience we can only imagine but thanks to this video now we know. In my experience too many times many of us let our EGO get into our heads and focus in our insecurities and short comings. Gosh, becoming an Artist like yourself does not happens over night, none of us know what your journey has been before getting to where you are. You are too kind Sir, may life bless you with tons of good health to live your best life and share it with us!
“The equipment is for the photographer ..makes them comfortable” so true! Models could care less of the brand of camera or lens you’re using, for instance. It’s refreshing to hear someone of this caliber confirming this
So many people make excuses for the successes of others which give them an unfair advantage but it is not a question of circumstances, talent or equipment. As with anything else in live it comes down to having clear objectives, determination, discipline and lots and lots of hard work. As I have said before Peter is one of the greatest ..... and this video helps us understand a little better the road to his success. Thanks Peter.
Thanks, thats a great tour! As i come from beeing a cabinet maker, now renting furnitures and props, taking pics is more tha a hobby for me, but people / portraits is new but i like it!
The older I get and the more I shoot, I realize it’s the simple things that make my life easier. Big lights…modifiers…expensive lenses (aka - toys) and yet you pointed out a million times “Everything is on WHEELS” for portability. It’s things like that that stood out to me. I love the fact your studio is organized messy. Any other way and it’s speaks volumes to what someone is about to walk into. Love the studio.
Thanks for this Pete. YT is full of ‘X’ versus ‘Y’ so it’s refreshing and great to hear that you don’t need the best and latest. If you focus (no pun intended) on the craft, as you say with basic gear, then you can still get great results.
It was wonderful listening to your enjoyment of your 'toys'. I can see why it is you can get the most out of the equipment you have when you have things arranged the way you do.
"It's putting your fingers in your ears and not listening to anybody else and shooting what you shoot and let the world see what you shoot and not listen to camera clubs, other photographers, any body who are not going to be your clients" WISE WORDS! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Peter, I have been watching your videos for about 6 months now and I find them very informative on lighting and set ups. And I love your work.
Peter and Bec: Thanks for this video. I'm relieved to come to the video description so I can get the names of the equipment. As a photographer, I'm always looking to find out about better equipment. Keep up the good work. PS: Saw the disclaimer. Why anyone would disparage the amazing and incrediblly charming Bec is beyond me.
I had to comment on this, yes you can get great shots with natural light and average equipment, but being able to have a studio like the one you have built up over the years is something that all of us would love to have. It makes things so much more convenient and I feel it is a BIG factor in getting a shoot done at the speed you do. You have your tools all right there, you know those tools well due to working with them so much and so can very quickly do your job. So of course I would love to have what you have, however I do also understand putting in the hard work, burning the midnight oil and to keep working at it and one day you will have it. So good for you to have put in the effort and work and to have what you have. I really enjoyed watching this.
Peter...love your closing statements. The gear is for you. Its not necessary to take great shots, but its for you. I hope that resignates with the gear junkies that think the latest and greatest will make them successful . Congratulations on your success! For sure, it is well earned my friend....well earned...
I’m absolutely blown away, this is one of the most amazing videos I’ve ever seen. I can see the dedication, determination and sheer hard work you’ve put in to your photography to get where you are now. I’ve mention on other video’s about how cool it would be for you to be my teacher but after seeing your studio you should be running top seminars in there or even have a teaching school because my mind is blown seeing it all and I think I’d have to do 7 days a week just to learn the equipment never mind have time to learn the skills and techniques. I love photography and kind of got in to it by accident as it was something I could do while I have had a back injury and it takes the edge off not being able bodied as I can do 5 minutes or maybe an hour if I’m messing about doing so macro shots while sat. I never knew how much it meant to capture a snippet of time that can generate so many different emotions by pressing a button and when I’m not taking shots I’m reading or watching videos to give me inspiration, ideas or just to learn. I’ve watched a few videos of the”photography masters” but they all seem to want to sell me something and I never get that from certain photographer on RUclips I just get great information. Thanks for your great videos Peter, please never give them up. Thanks David, Uk.

Love your honesty.
Thanks for the tour, it's great to see behind the scenes! I love your honesty in the way you work and present things. As a guy who's enjoyed taking photos for over 40 years, but has only just gotten around to getting a half descent camera, I find your content to be very helpful and interesting in my steep learning curve of some of the technical side of photography. Thank you (both Peter and Beck) so much for your instructional content, if I can create results half as good, I'll be doing awesome!

You two really need a reality show. I have learned so much from the You Tube videos as well as Inspire but it's hard to say which i like better, the photography part or watching the two of you. Thanks so much for sharing your world with us :-)
You guys are great and so inspirational. I am truly sorry people are jealous of you when they should learn and use your information for motivation. I am new to all this but I have learned so much from you. And for that, thank you, really great job.
Thanks Peter, that was terrific. I used to work with photographers back in the 1980s when I worked with ad agencies and design studios but haven't been in one since then. Thank god it all still looks familiar. Love your vids and your work, you're an inspiration as I start my photo adventure. Cheers.
I told someone posing for me last week about this Australian photographer with a huge studio where everything was on wheels. Marvelled at it. Now I see it’s even more well done than I thought. I agree with your comments on not needing all the toys. I finally learned this. A bit hard to swallow at first. Hope you have a great trip. Enjoy Toronto and area. Hamilton has a surprising number of waterfalls, by the way. Halton regional parks.
I like your equipment racks on wheels. I wish we had that back in my TV production days. Equipment storage was attached to walls so we'd have to cross the studio constantly while setting up. As somebody once said; "learn to take good pictures, then get a Leica."
I admire your views on gear, and I also admire your setup and thought process as to the reasons why. Sometimes it's good to step back and realise how far you've come and that you only got all these amazing things through your own hard work. Loved it!

Wow! I never realised how big a studio you have, nor what massive lights also. I though it was expensive being an electrician (as was I). You've inspired me to pull my thumb out and acquire some sort of space to have my gear readily available and get shooting in my retirement years. My limitation is having such a narrow interest in just studio portraiture. Thanks for sharing this, and best of luck to you.
Great place Peter, brings back memories from when I had my studio in Toronto... but I ended up going into television for 20 years which I retired out of, and now gone back to lighter gear. However, I do miss my cove wall!
Thanks for the great tour. A studio workplace that any photographer can aspire to accomplish. And, as a side note, I really enjoyed gazing at the image of Bec on your T-shirt. I had a hard time taking my eyes off your shirt so as to actually admire your studio! What an incredibly photogenic young woman, and even more so with a photographer of your skill level. PS - Hope you enjoy your time in the USA. I live in Nashville, Tennessee (home and capitol of the country music industry).
That is people's problem even me a little we all get hung up on gear. I am also a mobile Dj and in my profession oh if you are not using this gear you are a crap Dj. I went to school for portrait Photography 150 hour course. And you are right how you talk to a model putting them at ease will go a long way in getting a job done. I am still working on that aspect but getting better learning from you. You have such a soft but commanding tone.
Lovely. Happy to see what you have and wishing for some day to become as good a photographer as you. Not for your equipment, but for your talent. I am a big fan of your work. Cheers.
I must say that I am impressed. You communicate very well your philosophy and objective of your shoots. I'm an ex banker who has always had a camera (first one was a Minolta in th 60s). Watching you work, and despite all the gear you have I know that you could do better than I with a polaroid vs my R5 canon . You inspire me. If I can ever get close to your results, I will let you know. But don't hold your breath. I am realistic . Roger from Québec, Canada

Great place Peter, brings back memories from when I had my studio in Toronto... but I ended up going into television for 20 years which I retired out of, and now gone back to lighter gear. However, I do miss my cove wall!
Thank you
Thanks for the great tour.
Thanks Michael
hats off to you SIR 🙏🏻
That is people's problem even me a little we all get hung up on gear. I am also a mobile Dj and in my profession oh if you are not using this gear you are a crap Dj. I went to school for portrait Photography 150 hour course. And you are right how you talk to a model putting them at ease will go a long way in getting a job done. I am still working on that aspect but getting better learning from you. You have such a soft but commanding tone.
Thanks :)
This was wonderful.
Thank you
Lovely. Happy to see what you have and wishing for some day to become as good a photographer as you. Not for your equipment, but for your talent. I am a big fan of your work. Cheers.
Thanks heaps just shoot a lot of what you love shooting
I must say that I am impressed. You communicate very well your philosophy and objective of your shoots. I'm an ex banker who has always had a camera (first one was a Minolta in th 60s). Watching you work, and despite all the gear you have I know that you could do better than I with a polaroid vs my R5 canon . You inspire me. If I can ever get close to your results, I will let you know. But don't hold your breath. I am realistic .

Wow, thank you Roger I used a Minolta in the 70's
Great video. I'm not much into fashion photography but it's fun to see your setup. and your photos are very inspiring.
Awesome, thank you!
Fascinating and fabulous!
It is amazing letting us in into your place and showing your studio. Thank you
Thanks :)
This recharged my inspiration.
What a cool space. Reminds me of a well run theatre.
