- Happy Friday everyone, thanks for tuning in. With all the behind the scenes videos we have been uploading for you guys, we noticed a lot of comments about Peter's huge warehouse studio, so we thought we would give you a tour :) Sorry this is a long video, Peter likes to explain things as he's walking around. As explained at the start of the video, this is 20 years of hard work, blood, sweat & tears - a studio like this filled with a bunch of photographic toys doesn't fall into your lap overnight. This is also a commercial working studio, for Peter's clients he needs this level of gear and this sized studio. We hope you enjoy the tour!

Thanks, thats a great tour!
As i come from beeing a cabinet maker, now renting furnitures and props, taking pics is more tha a hobby for me, but people / portraits is new but i like it!
I am so happy I have found your feed. Thank you for being so real and unafraid to reveal yourself.
Thank you Steven I really appreciate your comment :)
Can’t tell you how much I enjoy your video. They feed my soul and my photography creativity.
Wow, thank you!
Peter Coulson, my hats off to you for putting all the "haters" comments aside and for being the better person and SOOOO GENEROUS by sharing the experience of what Profesional Studio is and looks like! So many of us will never have that experience we can only imagine but thanks to this video now we know. In my experience too many times many of us let our EGO get into our heads and focus in our insecurities and short comings. Gosh, becoming an Artist like yourself does not happens over night, none of us know what your journey has been before getting to where you are. You are too kind Sir, may life bless you with tons of good health to live your best life and share it with us!
Thank you so much Alexander we are all equal no matter what life skills or toys we have :)
Impressive Studio. I like the way, you’re talking about gear. This is an entertaining video.
Thank you
Hola Peter, saludos nuevamente desde Argentina. Me gusto poder conocer tu estudio, tenes de todo ahí adentro. Te felicito! Haces un gran trabajo!
Gracias
What an excellent studio. Thank you for the tour
Glad you enjoyed it
B+H has a 3 meter HD stand (like your smaller one)for only $15,000 usd. I think they are amazing. Like the Steadicam in the film industry.
Thank you Peter Coulson for sharing the brief and concise insight of your studio. I m one of your followers who is thinking, after going to pension, to take photography more seriously. Regards and thank you again for your openness and strait way of being. António
What an interesting video, Peter and Bec, even a walkthrough your studio becomes a fascinating lesson in photography, BRILLIANT. Thank you both for inspiring me even more.👍📷📷📷📸📸
Thanks Anthony for watching
Wow, those two lights are huge.
you look exeptionally happy showing your studio Peter :)...I smile looking at you smiling
Thanks its my happy place :)
Thanks for the tour, it's great to see behind the scenes! I love your honesty in the way you work and present things. As a guy who's enjoyed taking photos for over 40 years, but has only just gotten around to getting a half descent camera, I find your content to be very helpful and interesting in my steep learning curve of some of the technical side of photography. I can feel your enthusiasm for what you do in the way you present and it's obvious that you've worked hard and well deserve the fantastic studio that you've created. Thank you (both Peter and Beck) so much for your instructional content, if I can create results half as good, I'll be doing awesome!
Thanks heaps Gary
Great video. Just getting back into shooting after 15 years so I’m behind, but inspired.
Thanks so much
I must say that I am impressed. You communicate very well your philosophy and objective of your shoots. I'm an ex banker who has always had a camera (first one was a Minolta in th 60s). Watching you work, and despite all the gear you have I know that you could do better than I with a polaroid vs my R5 canon . You inspire me. If I can ever get close to your results, I will let you know. But don't hold your breath. I am realistic .
Roger from Québec, Canada
Wow, thank you Roger I used a Minolta in the 70's
congratulations Peter for your wonderful studio. hard work pays off
Thanks so much for sharing. Reminds me of Working with Micheal Andrea in his studio 30 + years ago.
WOW and drooling here at the size and light in the studio oh and of course the equipment. I do model day shoots to help me deal with my serious sight loss and most of the ones the past 2 yrs have been in a friends home studio setup in her dinning room and it is amazing what you can get in a small place, but still would love my own studio and sight to do more. No where did I put my winning lotto tickets
Thanks heaps, you don't always need a huge studio, I just need it for my commericial work
Fantastic habitat. I’m not a photographer but I imagine a space like that would inspire you to pick up a camera and create. It’s a place where extraordinary things are born.
Thanks yes my favorite place to create
Awesome
Love this
Thanks for sharing
Thank you! Cheers!
Great work space. Enjoy all the toys.
Thank you Peter!
Just discovered your channel!!!! So refreshing to see someone speak honestly about the business. Something to aspire to. Thank you, sir! Inspiring.
Thank you John
I love photography, you both give so much inspiration. Well done with your success and the channel.
Thanks so much!
Hi Bec love the
rapport you have with Peter, it makes for great content
I enjoyed the tour. It brought back memories of my operation in Toronto years ago, but your facilities are bigger and more ambitious.
BAK
Thanks
Wow, hard earnt . Interesting insight thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome 👏
Thanks 🤗
Beautiful studio, looks like you have all you need to create anything you desire. Thank you for the tour! Wish I could make it to the Orlando workshop, maybe some other time. I really enjoy your videos, the asthetic of your images, and of course I love the Bec shirt and her personality as a host. Have a wonderful, safe, and successful tour in the states.
Thanks Heaps
it looks like photographers heaven.thanks so much for teaching us good stuff and inspire us to get better ideas and take better photos.one day i will make my own studio just like you did.
Thanks so much
AMAZING share Peter! Thanks so much
Great video guy's
Thanks 👍
Amazing studio Peter, thanks for sharing !!!
Thanks
You have a very high ceiling height! Heat rises as you know. There is a sporting goods store in Belfast that had alot small all ceiling fans a blowdown the accumulated heat riser into the ceiling void it's perfect for your your working space. Ceiling fans are are dirt cheap to run.
Peter.....Great ... speechless ... thanks for sharing ... currently you do nothing with photographic film? ... it would be great to see that part with your great experience ...
Thanks, film is not viable with commercial work but I do still shoot some of my stuff with film. I will post some soon
Thanks for such extensive sharing!
Thank you Peter for doing a rare insight into a great studio, some ideas that I will implement!
Thank you Mark
Cool studio, equipped very well )
Thanks a lot!
Hi Peter, I came across your RaRa Playing with Backdrops and simply fell in love with your concept of using rolling backdrops. I have been practicing photography for some time but did not get the itch to get into it professionally until about 2 years ago. My son and I want to get a studio going. We recently acquired a small space which we hope to get running in the coming months. Your videos are inspiring and I just want to say thank you for being so generous in sharing your knowledge and experience with other like minded individuals.
Thanks :)
Thanks for the friendly share of your "world".
thank you for watching
Thank you, that was very cool. inspirational
That was great. Never worked in a studio that large. Enjoyed it. Wish you both well.. Andy Banks, Bendigo
Thanks Andy
AMAZING!!!! It is a beautiful space
Thank you
If Batman was a photographer, this is what the batcave would aspire to.
Amazing how some people confuse somebody who has worked there a** off ,with somebody who has it made because..., Thank you so much for the invitation into your studio you guys kept it on such a friendly level it makes us want to see more. Speaking of that it would be (cool) if you did share some of your tips and tricks like using the sunscreen in a short vid.
Thanks we have lots coming
Great
Super awesome studio! How did you build your walls on wheels? Do you have a video on that? Thank you 🙏
Thanks so much, yes I do ruclips.net/video/xa8vL5x05-oc/видео.html
II appreciate greatly you guys doing these videos! Hearing how you started out and working your way up through the years gives hope to those aspiring to do this for a living. I just love doing photography as a hobby but like trying to push the envelope on a budget. Would love to get into more sexy artistic shoots but finding a model in my area is a bit tough. Maybe a video on how to find models or something, that’d be great. Anyway, great work, thank you!
Thank you so much, we recently did a tutorial on Inspire about how we find our models :)
One of the better studio tours I've seen - thanks for showing us around. How large is the studio in terms of sqft?
Thanks about 1500sqft
Heya. Great tour. Which stand do you prefer using more and/or would you recommend?
C stand
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer oh, sorry, I should have been more clear: I meant, which camera studio stand (the ones other’s described as a car jack). The Salon style of the Inka style?
Both my camera stands are discontinued that companies like B&H have have camera Stands for sale.
I just recycled decades of photography magazines. It struck me I'd have learnt more if I'd spent the money on film!
You always learn best by doing
Yes, I'm well jel, it's very nice. 🙂
Awesome walkthrough. what type of racks are you using for your lights/accessories? Looks like a store display, but so useful to hang those bulky beauty dishes.
Thanks the black stands I had custom built and the white one is a store display rack
The design for the large work area? white seamless and permanent?
What are the overall dimensions of the entire studio? If you rent how much has it increased over the years? Were there any unexpected surprises when you were building out the studio?
380 2m The rent has gone up = to the cpi and you always have surprises with running a business but nothing major
Grazie, guardato con interesse, molto interesse. Un saluto dall'Italia. (Thanks, watched with interest, great interest. Ciao from Italy..
Thanks
Thank you... that was interesting and inspiring... I am having fun working in my tiny studio... I have put everything on wheels too... but that is I can roll all the furniture out of the room so I have space to shoot... thanks for talking about how you got started and worked your way towards having such a great working space... very motivational... sorry... I have some questions... and another request... you may have answered them before but I missed it... how many square metres is the studio?... how high are the cielings?... how did you make the curved wooden backdrop? especially the corner?... also... you mentioned using the spray suncscreen to add sheen to skin... I have a fifties themed beach wear shoot coming up and some quick tips would be really useful... have a good weekend...
380 2/meters 7 meter high ceilings the cycs ate made out of 4mm ply wood and the spray is called banana boat 50+ sunscreen
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer Thank you...
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer sorry... one more question... am I correct in assuming only the curve is 4mm ply... and the walls and base are thicker?
@@noahwood8411 the walls are 4mm lpy the corner is paper mache and plaster
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer Thank you... I was especially curious as to how you made the corner... as fun as my little studio is I am planning on finding a bigger space...
17:56 was that sound coming from behind the camera Bec's hunger belly? :D
na Bec wasn't miked don't know what that noise is
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer got it, anyway, nice tour, super cool space you got there :) cheers
“The equipment is for the photographer ..makes them comfortable” so true! Models could care less of the brand of camera or lens you’re using, for instance. It’s refreshing to hear someone of this caliber confirming this
Thanks Christopher
Complete respect. Some of us understand what this takes and not everyone is an artist like yourself.
Wow thanks heaps Jeff
Cafefull the fire brigade doesn't see your padlocked emergency exit :-)
Love your videos and seeing your amazing studio. **One safety point that hopefully was addressed a while ago, at minute 8:26 I noticed an “emergency exit keep clear” door had a lock on it. I’m hoping the lock is removed during normal working hours. Stay amazing.
Thanks they are old emergency exits and not in use any more, the locks are on them because the doors do not lock and anyone can just walk in.
Thank you for this tour! It helped me a lot. You’re true inspiration to me. You both are. Please continue making these tutorials 🙏☺️❤️🕺
Thanks so much, more coming soon
you have what i think MOST EVERY studio photographer dreams of. i dont think something like that is really out of the realm for a lot of shooters either. that said, there is ONE studio of similar size (although i dont know of very many people who have ever been inside) in my hometown of about 33,000. the owner has a camera store, is UBER OPINIONATED about what gear everyone needs to use (i.e. NO options other than the N brand) but he has made some money over the years. I think it was built in part as a tax write off. that 3.3m (10' to us Yanks) reflector is amazing! i liked how you used it in "does size make a difference".
Thank you
Probably my kind of heaven looks like this studio
Thank you
I happende upon and L-O-V-E this video. It helps justify my lunacy (on a smaller scale... for now) to my business partner. Gives great insight, direction and hopes for our future...Thx Peter for the video and your platforms.
Glad it was helpful, thanks
Hello Peter! Love the way you organise your gear per brand on different racks. Did you make them yourself? OR did you buy them somewhere? I am looking for something similar and was wondering if you could share the brand you bought them from (the black ones). Many thanks and much appreciated :).
Thanks I made them myself
Hey @PeterCoulson Would love to see a shoot done using the Broncolor Para 330.
Drool…
I do not have the talent to build what you have built, but it would be my Lotto life.
Agree with you on the toys, they are more for me than anything else …. just don’t tell my wife. Every lens, light, backdrop or prop is an important part of my toolkit!
If you dream big it will happen
That is people's problem even me a little we all get hung up on gear. I am also a mobile Dj and in my profession oh if you are not using this gear you are a crap Dj. I went to school for portrait Photography 150 hour course. And you are right how you talk to a model putting them at ease will go a long way in getting a job done. I am still working on that aspect but getting better learning from you. You have such a soft but commanding tone.
Thanks :)
You should never have to worry about what some asshole said, your skill and your great vision for the photographs shows just how good you are. I have watch you for years and enjoy you vids and the relation you have with the wonderful models....
Thanks so much
Never been in a studio that didn't have crap piled up somewhere. Saw your bins and bins full of backdrops. I had three... LOL!!
Awesome video studio is fantastic I started small too I work for many years ot get my Gare for my weddings Gare I no how hard it is to get started thanks for another great video Peter l love watching your video Paul.
Thanks Paul for sharing with us
Great philosophie. Thank you for all this sharing. A fan from a small village in France.
Thanks for watching!
Właśnie wyskoczył mi ten film na yt. I uświadomiłem sobie ze juz tyle lat oglądam wasze filmy. Wszystkiego najlepszego z okazji święta fotografii
Dziękuję
Awesome!!!!! Thanks for sharing! RESPECT!!!! From California.
Our pleasure!
Hi Peter, you use positive feed back to the models almost constantly during a shoot. Do most models need this to perform their best?
everybody performs better with positive feedback
Very nice studio! Thanks for sharing your world and creativity!
Thank you very much!
So many people make excuses for the successes of others which give them an unfair advantage but it is not a question of circumstances, talent or equipment. As with anything else in live it comes down to having clear objectives, determination, discipline and lots and lots of hard work. As I have said before Peter is one of the greatest ..... and this video helps us understand a little better the road to his success. Thanks Peter.
Thanks heaps
WOW, just come across this old video, that one hell of a setup with a lot gear and space 👍
Glad you like it!
''And not listen to camera clubs and other photographers and anybody who is not gonna be your client'' words of diamond.
You spent 20+ years honing your craft and people see what you built and think you’re an overnight success.
Thanks for understanding what I put up with everyday :)
Awesome! Amazing! The Dream of all photographers! Congrats !
Thanks a lot!
I like your equipment racks on wheels. I wish we had that back in my TV production days. Equipment storage was attached to walls so we'd have to cross the studio constantly while setting up.
As somebody once said; "learn to take good pictures, then get a Leica."
awesome I just got a Leica :)
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer A Canon EOS 1V is on my list to get "one day" :)
If you don't mind sharing, what is the tool called that you use to hold the camera instead of a tripod (the big black metal thing that people said look like a "car lift")? i use a Tether Tools device which is a somewhat similar design, but MUCH less stable and much smaller version than yours, and I love the industrial style and sturdiness that yours looks like it provides.
It's in the description, camera stand: The brand of stand he uses has been discontinued, but this is very similar www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/4986-REG/Manfrotto_816_Super_Salon_280_Camera.html
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer thank you!
I know i'm 2yrs behind, but I really enjoyed this walk around. Something to aspire to. Quick question what's the one thing you wish you had at the studio but don't? And yeah love your 'compensation toys'
Thanks, air conditioning its summer in Melbourne :)
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer love it. My studio is cool during summer which is nice but it also means it frikkin' freezing in the winter. 😜
I really like the tower racks things, I built something similar before I saw this video and it's incredibly useful. Did you buy them or did you bulild them?
Thanks I built them
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer hehe nice, it looks like we had the same idea, my rack is very similar and it's great, I used parts like stores use to hang tools on walls etc stuff that they sell
Really an interesting tour. Thank you! You have built a great business and your passion for it shows. Cheers! Hugs to Bec!
Thanks so much!
Peter and Bec: Thanks for this video. I'm relieved to come to the video description so I can get the names of the equipment. As a photographer, I'm always looking to find out about better equipment. Keep up the good work.
PS: Saw the disclaimer. Why anyone would disparage the amazing and incrediblly charming Bec is beyond me.
Thanks Jeff
Great video, gems of knowledge. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
hi, wondering how big is your studio i am thinking 5000 square feet? good for for doing so well in photography Peter i am glad you said in the beginning about needing to have a eye to create a good pic and all of the pro equipment will not help i live in a depressed area so most people will not or cannot pay $1000 a wedding some do not pay at all. i find that so frustrating as i have that eye but will go no where with photography because i need to compete with people who have no ability to take a picture and will photograph a wedding for $300. again happy for you and Bec
My studio is 380 square meters, when you start you have to charge the going rate in your field and location, when you get a name/following you can charge more
@@PeterCoulsonPhotographer i agree with you about pricing however most people in my city live at the poverty line sad to say we have a large number of homeless people .
You two really need a reality show. I have learned so much from the You Tube videos as well as Inspire but it's hard to say which i like better, the photography part or watching the two of you. Thanks so much for sharing your world with us :-)
Thanks Rob yeah Bec is awesome
I’m absolutely blown away, this is one of the most amazing videos I’ve ever seen. I can see the dedication, determination and sheer hard work you’ve put in to your photography to get where you are now. I’ve mention on other video’s about how cool it would be for you to be my teacher but after seeing your studio you should be running top seminars in there or even have a teaching school because my mind is blown seeing it all and I think I’d have to do 7 days a week just to learn the equipment never mind have time to learn the skills and techniques. I love photography and kind of got in to it by accident as it was something I could do while I have had a back injury and it takes the edge off not being able bodied as I can do 5 minutes or maybe an hour if I’m messing about doing so macro shots while sat. I never knew how much it meant to capture a snippet of time that can generate so many different emotions by pressing a button and when I’m not taking shots I’m reading or watching videos to give me inspiration, ideas or just to learn. I’ve watched a few videos of the”photography masters” but they all seem to want to sell me something and I never get that from certain photographer on RUclips I just get great information. Thanks for your great videos Peter, please never give them up. Thanks David, Uk.
we can only be inspired by your talent and not jealous
Thanks Tony :)
Second watch, enjoyed it even more second time with an eighteen month gap.
Glad you enjoyed it x 2 :)
amazing video, thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Shows how hard you worked and were you have landed from the hard work..
Thanks Fred
Damn..!!! Mr Peter has so much lights there he could probably make a movie.... And speaking of lights, his light bill must be through the roof.... Between Bec drinking all the wine 🍷 and the power bill 💵 going through the roof Mr Peter must be in the red every month..... If I was him I would say someone's got to go the lights or bac the drinks up all the wine
well done its a lot of hard work , best feeling in the world its your ,
Thanks so much, hard work is worth it
