The amazing Photographers and their work mentioned in this video:
1. "America in a Trance" by Niko J. Kallianiotis - a project that documents the decline of small towns in America, exhibited in multiple locations and led to a book deal.
2. “Sleeping by the Mississippi" by Alec Soth - Evolving from a series of road trips along the Mississippi River, Alec Soth's Sleeping by the Mississippi captures Images of America's iconic yet oft-neglected "third coast." Led to exhibitions and book publications.
3. "The Dogist" by Elias Weiss Friedman. A project that features portraits of dogs from around the world. This project has led to multiple book deals, a television show, and a large following on social media.
4. "Botanical Inquiry" by Daniel Shipp - a series of still-life photographs of plants and flowers, using unusual lighting and compositions to create dreamlike images, which helped Shipp establish himself as a commercial and fine art photographer.
5. "Fallen Princesses" by Dina Goldstein - a series of photographs depicting Disney princesses in real-life scenarios, exploring the dark side of fairy tales, which went viral and led to commercial and editorial work.
6. "The Atlas of Beauty" by Mihaela Noroc - a book and online project featuring portraits of women worldwide, celebrating diversity and natural beauty, which gained international attention and led to exhibitions and book publications.

Hey everyone, I've been overwhelmed by the response to this and my other video! It was a great way to start on youtube. Thanks for all the great comments and to everyone for visiting me on Instagram! I'm working on the next video now and will post it when it's ready. Keep the comments coming :)
I am truly excited about what you share in your video due to your seriousness and generosity in the personal process. It is both intimate and personal, yet also concrete in terms of the creative process. I have felt very inspired and am extremely grateful. Love your video ❤ from
Spain
Thanks so much for watching! I'm glad to know you enjoyed it :)
No idea who you are but I’m glad your video popped up on my feed
I'm glad it did too! Thanks!
Same!
Same❤
Haha…was thinking the same thing!
same.
I am taking pictures of everything and nothing aimlessly for last 11 years. As this is a hobby I never took it seriously over my fulltime job, but I always know in my heart I want to express something and I have not found it yet myself. Thank You for addressing to that feeling.
Glad to know this helped...good luck with your journey!
This is the kind of video that I’d like to see more of. There are way too many tech reviews, but this is real knowledge. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I plan on exploring similar topics in future videos.
My spirit resonates with your video and art along with all the comments in here! Powerful stuff! I’m super grateful you’re all here!
Thanks so much Miguel! Glad to have you here too!
Best new photography channel on RUclips for several years, in my humble opinion. Great stuff.
Really appreciate the kind words...Thank you!
Thank you! Very inspiring. This channel will certainly grow. You have a gift to convey your message in a very calm and concise way and your subject is most relevant to anyone trying to bring her or his photography to a level of real art. Regardless of what kind of photography that might be! There are enough channels obsessing with gear already. Now I just have to make up my mind what I truly want to say with my photography, why I do it in the first place… as simple as it sounds, this is very hard.
I really appreciate your support! As for your own work, you might try just starting a project about something you have an interest in. I found the deeper I got into this project, the more interesting and inspiring it became. Plus it led to ideas for other projects. Good luck with it!
The best, most honest, perceptive and well presented video I have seen. Thank you and great subjects, theme, processing and even a similar marketing starting point to me all provide great inspiration, which is of course the fundamental reason for the video.
Wow...that's quite a compliment. I really appreciate the kind words and support!
Being frustrated, your video suddenly shows up. Lacking inspiration, you somehow eased that feeling. Found my style but no one is around to appreciate except for people wanting to like their page or wanting to share my photos on their wall. Thank you for a glimmer little light.
I'm happy to provide that glimmer. Good luck with your journey!
Passion first, money will follow. Thanks and good luck
That's what it's all about...thanks! You too.
Wow. I really need to hear this as I am going through this photography journey. I enjoy how you present your story and it makes me feel very welcoming to start my own project without feeling overwhelmed or intimidated.
I want to see more of these types of videos. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us on youtube!
Thanks Sunie! I'm glad you found the video at right time. Good luck with your project!
I don’t know which is more awesome… the video or the fact you’ve actually responded to all 465 comments on this video! Amazing.
Anyway, great advice. So happy the algorithm decided to send you my way. It was exactly the kind of thing I needed to hear to give my own photography the focus it needs. And from another Lower Mainlander to boot!
Thanks so much! I guess this makes it 466 :) Good luck with everything.
Fantastic Scott!!!! Thanks for a more than relevant video. I´m at that stage where I have some projects in mind but trying to find the time to shoot them is proving to be an obstacle. But watching you talk has given me some encouragement to get out there and just do it. Thanks a heap!!! Love your work, too.
Thanks! So glad to hear it helped, David. Get out and do it!
This is great stuff! Thank you for sharing the story and the work. Seems we're in a nostalgic phase in general as a society, but these photos (and the buildings they are of) are timeless.
Thank you for the kind words! Yeah, a lot of people are nostalgic these days.
thank you sharing your knowledge! excited to see more of your videos.
Thank you!
Thank you Scott. Looking forward to more videos.
thanks...I appreciate the support!
Thank you very much for your videos (just watched them both)! Very inspiring and was very much needed at this point in my photography career. These types of stories are so helpful. Please keep them coming!
Thanks for your support! I plan on it!
I’m studying art, trying to become a concept artist in the gaming industry and I’ve got to tell you, amazing work, especially the part about having something in your work that resonates with you. Also not just the pictures but the video itself is very well crafted, very high quality. Congratulations! And good luck in the future!
Hey...I really appreciate the kind words! Glad to hear that it resonated :) with you.
This was a fantastic video. Thank you for sharing your insights and process. It's a great reminder to just take photos that you love first and foremost.

Wow, inspiring video @scottfrenchart! Just loving your calm voice telling your approach to the project. I'll be honest, I've never seen your work before but those pictures are stunning! Lately I'm thinking about doing a project too (there are several historical sites near where I live) just for me at first. But after seeing this I definitly will think about what I want to express before I start, so thank you!
I really appreciate the kind words :) Glad you found some inspiration. Good luck with it!
Really enjoyed the videos so far and looking forward to the next one.
Thanks...great to hear! I've got lots of stuff in the works.

Looking forward to the next chapter. Great story!
Thank you! Working on the next chapter now.
For most artists, it's not about the money, it's about making enough money from the art to actually be able to do the art in the first place. Otherwise known as a catch-22.
This catch-22 is devious, because most artists only want to earn enough to survive and make art. But, in order to get good enough you have to do non-art and save up enough money to quit your job and do art (which is not something artists are good at). It's doubly devious, because even if you're the rare artist with that level of structure and patience, by the time you get good enough to make money, you're so good, you can earn tons of money. So, "just making enough to live" is also nearly impossible, because almost no one pays for "almost good art".
But I like the idea of one big project to launch a career. I would like to see you dive deeper into this. Perhaps take on a starving artist, help them create a launchable project, and film everything.
I am currently building a service that connects artists to other artists and business people. It's finds you a complete team for your project or a project team that needs your exact skills. That's my solution attempt to the millennia old problem. Instead of making the artist do everything, allow everyone to specialize in what they love.
Thanks for the suggestion. That sounds like a great idea for a video but a long term one given the time involved. Good luck with the the service you're building.
Your videos are excellent Scott, really well put together and such valuable information. Well done Sir, keep doing what you are doing 👍🏻
Much appreciated, Alan! Glad you like the videos!

Great story Scott with some really insightful lessons from your experience. Very inspiring for a project and sounds like a practical project manager mindset as well as an artist.
Thanks so much Rob! I hadn't considered that before but I think you're right. Pulling off many types of artistic endeavours require some project management skills.

Excellent video, Scott! This video is exactly what I am looking for too. I am interested in making a personal project and look forward to your next videos. I so want to get away from the aimless wandering and do something I have a passion for with intention. Thanks for the help; you're on a roll!
Hey LuAnne, thanks so much! I wish you all the best with your project.
Great video Scott. It's impressive that you developed a significant project in less than a year. Beautiful work too. I do belief projects or themes are they key to developing as a photo artist. I usually have one or two main themes I am working on and then some smaller projects. One of my projects/themes was the downtown of the small Iowa town I live in, I've photographed on and off over 15 years. I recently discovered some amazing mural art on the back alleys and now that is a mini project. I am looking for one significant project and will use some of the tips you mentioned. I've subscribed and will look forward to more of your videos.
Thanks, Guy! It was about 18 months after I started that I began to post some images from the series. I had the official launch with additional images almost a year after that. I'm more than 3 years in now and the project continues. Glad you found the video helpful. Sounds like some interesting work that you're doing.
This is such a beautiful video! I have gotten into food styling and food photography and this is super inspiring. Thank you! :)
I'm so glad it helped you! Thanks for the kind words.
Thank you for sharing your insights. And your works look awesome.
I appreciate it!
Lovely Photographs, well done. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much!

Great video Scott. Quite inspirational actually. As a photographer, I've been working on materializing a few ideas into one or two personal photographic projects.
Thanks Arturo! Good Luck with your own project!
Excellent and lovely work too!!!
Many thanks!
Beautiful Works, Inspiring Video thanks Scott
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, Scott. Very easy to follow the points that you are trying to convey. Please keep your channel going.
Love the idea for your project and it's something I've been trying to do myself. I enjoy photographing architecture, even have a tilt shift lens! Unfortunately, here in Ireland there's just not the same opportunities for finding those stunning examples. Then there's our weather...
But you have inspired me to do something.
I've sold a few prints on other subjects and the buzz is terrific. But, as you say, I want to be more focused on a theme for my own satisfaction.
Thanks so much John! My project started in Vancouver where we do have some great examples of MCM architecture but where the weather is damp and grey for a good part of the year. But late spring and summer are usually sunny which provided the light I needed. Good luck with your project!
love! I recognize many of these locations. incredible shots
Awesome! Thank you!
top video. you are one of my favorite photo tubers.... and thats actual only three thx.
Wow...Thanks so much!
Great video with some nice insights for current and future photography artist. Nice to see someone with a reason or purpose for their images being created rather than the random pointers and shooters with a prayer of capturing something that contains the ever elusive "it" image.
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
Loved this and perfect timing. "People will buy if it resonated with you/me" Wow!!!
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching.
