I am so glad that you found my video and enjoyed it! I always loved the character Lurch and when I started making this video, I became a super fan of Ted Cassidy and just kept adding all the stuff that stood out to me. Means a lot that others enjoyed it too 💜👍
@@CoolClassics There''s color Lurch footage in the 77 TV reunion special. You even mention it in the Carolyn Jones video.
Thank you so much, I have always remembered him in an adventure series when I was very young. I was born in 61 and thought it had something to do with the Bannanna Splits, maybe the Huckleberry Finn thing was on before or after I was only between 5 and 7. This was great. 👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻✊🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻👊🏻❤

Ted Cassidy to my knowledge, has never gotten such a detailed in-depth synopsis of his acting career, you've done his legacy proud. I think anyone who watched the Addams family was intrigued by his character, and curious as to whether Ted could lead a "normal" life. I thank you for including him in your series!
I appreciate that.
I really prefer to make biographies on people that I like, but that do not have in-depth ones out there. Ted fit those criteria 💜
Exactly! I was intrigued, to watch just as soon as I noticed it was about him. Because I really had felt like I never heard him be celebrated. That's unfortunate.
@chantel7827 right and he had soo many voices he was intriguing and he was good I didn't know he was the voice of the incredible hulk voice starring Lou Figueroa I thought it was his voice he also was the voice narrator of the incredible hulk show
@@louisewilliams4676❤🎉
Regardless what Ted was doing, he spoke, gestured and acted genuinely believably, and well. Outstandingly well. Every single thing he did. THANKYOU for your time & efforts in finding many unexpected examples!! YOU did an outstanding presentation!
Cassidy's Lurch is one of the all-time great TV performances imo !
He was really smart, he was really tall, He was a athletically gifted , I think his high school peers were just very jealous of him
Along with Don Messick, Ted was the secret weapon of Hanna Barbera. The animation may have been cheap but the acting and vocal effects performances were top of the art and still hold up today.
I saw ALL those shows with Ted Cassidy. I loved his voice and when I saw him on Star Trek I was elated. You seem to have so much fun doing these and your joy is infectious. Thank you for keeping these memories of these special people alive
Thank you for this report on this fine actor and enjoyed him for many years. Like you, I wasn't aware of all the voice work he accomplished. What a great story and life.
Ted died much too young. He had a fascinating life.
I just had a debate with my brother a few days ago about which show was better, the Munsters or the Adams Family. I argued for the Adams Family big time, it was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. I love that scene where Wednesday and Lurch dance. I saw an interview with Lisa Loring, the actress who played Wednesday, and she said Ted was the nicest guy on the cast and that she loved him dearly.
As for the rest, I had no idea Ted was a newscaster in Dallas on November 22, 1963. I have watched and listened to hours of TV and radio coverage of that day and I imagine I heard his voice but I never put it together. His voice over work on those early commercials is fantastic. It's a shame he was typecast because of his height, I imagine that hurt on a personal level. RIP Ted. I'm sure God made sure you got your harpsichord back when you arrived.
The Addams family was one of my favorite shows. Always enjoyed Lurch and I can still hear my mom imitating him “You rang?” Not that her voice was so low, we just thought it was a great line! I knew he did Thing but not about the other parts. Except now that you’ve shown them I remember. Especially his roles in Star Trek. I always wished I could have a Scotty to beam me up! Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Just him answering the door was hilarious 😂 One of my favorite characters!
Can I just say thank you so much for these videos. I’ve watched a few and like you I’m so surprised at Ted, what an absolutely gorgeous man and in so much I’ve seen. I love the connection to the original Star Trek and Incredible Hulk, two of my very fave shows growing up on reruns ❤️
My pleasure!
Great video. Thank you. That voice and his control of it, just get me. He could adjust the pitch of it for what was wanted in each different character voice, or narration, and make it very difficult to tell it was his voice. Being an amateur Gospel quartet bass singer, myself, I always wished I could hear him do some serious, naturel, not acting, bass singing. Trust me, he had a great bass voice, which a lot of professional bass singers would envy. I believe, strongly, that Ted Cassidy was a genuine, good guy, person, and a fine actor. I was very saddened by his passing.
That was fantastic!!! I had no idea about all the characters he played. But I thought it was awesome that he was exactly one month younger than my mom.
I was a big Incredible Hulk fan of the TV show. I knew it was Ted doing the intro and the growls but didn’t know he did other voice overs you mentioned. He sure had a smooth voice.
just started watching from what I hearing about him he was a pretty cool 😎 dude r. I. p ted I remember watching play bigfoot the second version after andre the gaint.
Great video ! Lurch was always a favorite of mine. Take care
Thanks, you too!
I always found Ted Cassidy to be extremely handsome…my current love is 6’4” (a screenwriter and musician). Mr. Cassidy was born one year before my beloved Father. I lost my Father too soon in 2010, but Mr. Cassidy was taken from his loved ones far far too soon!
I was 6" 7" in high-school back in the 70's and I was called Lurch a few times.
Now I feel a whole lot better about that. I was in good company being compared to him.
Great man and a great documentary of his life and accomplishments.
Well done!

I don't usually comment on these things, but I must tell that you did my heart good. What a wonderful rendition and presentation of a man's life. Well done, especially since he was well deserving of the detail that you gave him. God bless you.
I could not have said it better, thank you.

That knife he pulled in Butch Cassidy made me think, oh snap!
I agree - you said this perfectly. He would have been a great man to have known!
I'm 68 years old and as many of those shows that I watched ( I remember them like they were yesterday ), I never knew it was him playing the parts. We need stars like that today. 💯
To find out that Lurch narrated for the Incredible Hulk is simply mind blowing. What a talented voice actor! Great stuff!
sho nuff cause I found out way later on of him being the voice of incredible hulk/Lou ferigno voice I thought it was Lou's voice all that time and I also was wandering who did the talking for incredible hulk show/narrator
The trained radio announcers/voice over actors of his day could really modulate their voices and alter the timbre and pitch like finely tuned musical instruments. Ted was among the best. Quite a talent!
I notice he sounds close to Fred Guinne who played Herman Munster.
I've been told many times i too have that golden voice for voiceovers and narrations!
Many decades ago, I attended a Star Trek convention where he was a featured speaker. During his session, his girlfriend at the time, sat on his knee. She looked like a child by comparison. The next morning, they ate breakfast in the same coffee shop that I did. When he sat in the booth behind me, the entire row of seats shook. And that voice was no put on. It was like hearing Gabriel's horn on judgment day.
What a cool memory! Thanks for sharing
Great story
❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for sharing with us 💞
Eat your heart out, James Earl Jones? ;)
Wish I could have me him.,...
Absolutely fascinating! Could not have guessed how intelligent and accomplished he was.
So was Fred Gwynne, who played Hermann Munster
He was also very attractive under all the face paint haha
Out of all the Addam Family T.V. shows and movie franchises, Ted Cassidy was and still is my favorite Lurch character. His rendition of Lurch was so human and he added so many levels to his character in everything he did on the show. It's great to know that despite his height that his talent was recognized, as well as his versatility in so many genres and aspects of show business. I miss him! Thank you so much for this Memorium of actor Ted Cassidy, it was greatly appreciated!.😇♥
No one could have EVER played Lurch like him. He owned this role totally.
Not only Ted, but all the parts were perfectly cast. I just can't imagine the Addams Family with any of the members recast. And, yes, he owned the role.
Uncle Fester played by Jackie Cohan was awesome as well.
Totally agree 💚💚💚
@@djquinn11 That's Coogan.
I read that Ted was one of two actors whose hands acting Addams' hand, "Thing" While he plays Lurch, another actor's hand is "Thing"

I always thought Ted Cassidy would have made a wonderful James Bond villain , just like the Jaws character. So sad he died far too young, Life is not always fair....
I always thought that he was in a James Bond movie.
@@shannonD68 Richard Kiel was Jaws, but they look a lot alike.

Severely underutilized, great actor and brilliant person. To short a season, and remembered so well! Rest in Peace, and greatness, Mr. Cassidy.
This is a really well-balanced view of Ted. He was so capable in so many areas, some I never knew, a real talent and that voice of his was like an instrument. I grew up in the 1970s and a lot of my friends and myself recognized his voice on cartoon shows or tv commercials but we only joked that it was Lurch from the Adams family. I myself merely thought it was someone that sounded similar. Now that I've watched your video, it's nice to know more about him since he was literally in our homes on a daily basis. Exactly the same here
He was in hole in the wall gang with Paul and Robert
One thing can be said about Ted Cassidy, without fear of being wrong: he is unforgettable. In my childhood I adored that gentle giant, Lurch, and recognized him when he appeared on other TV series. Here's a little tribute to a great guy, and unforgettable actor.
My mother attended Stetson University and was in drama studies along with Ted. She always said that he was one of the kindest men she'd ever met, and a truly gentle-at-heart person. One of his basketball team photos in the Stetson "Hatter" annual is of him in his b-ball uniform in a slight crouch, arms outstretched, overhand-palming a basketball in each massive hand!
Awesome! 👍
This is the first time I heard this Guy without the known "Adam's Family" role.
It is so pleasing to see that tall actors like Ted Cassidy, Fred Gwynne and Richard Kiel continue to get admiration and respect after all these years.
Well yea everybody loved them for those reasons. I can see how they would get tired of playing the same character over and over again but that's always their biggest selling point. Naturally being huge has a charisma all its own
His voice was also iconic
I'll give you admiration, but being limited to playing monsters is hardly respect. Being two inches taller than Cassidy, I was called Lurch repeatedly growing up. Never once did I feel respected by the speaker.
I just watched The Princess Bride with Andre The Giant in it. I also enjoyed his wrestling.
Cool Classics, you are absolutely THE best at what you do, throughout RUclips. No one is more thorough or entertaining! I had no idea that Ted Cassidy's career was so far reaching. I always remembered him from the Twilight Zone episode, "To Serve Man". Thanks for posting. :-)

You did an excellent job editing and getting these fun facts together. It just sad that his wife would leave him at a time when support by a spouse is needed. I did not realize that he was the voice on many commercials but once you played a few, it was recognizable. Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.
heart trouble thing is because of their height. the heart is the same size as everyone else's but has to work much harder to defeat gravity and pump blood thru their tall bodies.

and those heart problems are very common
46 years old, tough break to die that young 😞.
The human heart is only about the size of an average man's fist. Wether your fine and fit or obese and large, there's only so much blood a human heart can pump. Large and obese people generally do not live full long lives because their heart is overwhelmed with to much work to do.
@@kirkthiets2771 um-as you can see, Ted was not obese at all.

Although I first I was concerned about the length when I looked at the play bar, however the time just flew by. After reading all the comments of other shows and things that he had done, I can for certain say that you definitely could have added lots of more Clips. I would have loved to seen some clips of all those other parts that he had been in. You can really make an hour-long documentary about Ted. Also I didn't even know his name until this video, Even though I love them watch The Addams Family all the time when I was younger. I want to thank you for that, because I too was geeking out over all the Star Trek and other sci-fi Clips you were showing. It was fascinating intriguing and a pleasure to find out all this information about him. Because of you mister, Cool Classics, I will never forget Ted Cassidy. I'm going to recommend this video to anybody I know now on.
I had no idea that even though I had seen quite a few shows knowing it was Ted Cassidy, I was blown away to find out how many times I had listened to him without knowing it was him. Adam Ant, come on, that was one of my favorite Hanna-Barbera cartoons, and the Hulk, I can't believe it. The Addams Family show where he had the hit song is funnier than hell. However, to find out that he is a major part of our Country's history during the association of President John F. Kennedy, I'm still spinning finding that out. Smart beyond belief, a great athlete, a voice heard more times that the chiming of Big Ben, and the butler for the Addams Family who made me piss myself laughing...what a grand man who will never be outdone by anybody...I'm a long time member of "The Lurch Church". All praise ye' Ted Cassidy!!!

Thank You for the comment! You sound just like, how I was feeling as I was making this video.
I was blown away by all of the same discoveries 😁
That's my favorite adams family..."pop star Lurch"
@@slipknot6789You are absolutely right my cohort in cool...as good as Lurch danced on the tv show, he could have easily been on the Soul Train Show in the dance line...he grooves to the hilt. Party on Slip, party on Garth...and party on Lurch(get down with your badself)!
@@godfreymccammon4531 ... "go go baby" Lurch is the most!
How cool 😎. Ted was A wonderful man it seems
I appreciate the time and effort put in these presentations. Also your cool narration style... not too fast, not too slow. Just right. 👍
I appreciate that!
Nothing monstrous about him. He was just very tall for his time. He was really handsome in high school and college and had a really sexy voice. What an intelligent, multi-talented man! I love the episodes where Wednesday teaches him to dance, and his mother comes to visit!
Ted was a voice over legend. Glad you gave that some time. :)
This was incredible. Guys this tall seem to have minor typecast careers, but Ted seemed to have a very active career. Glad I saw this. Fascinating life.
How is it that I never knew Ted Cassidy was the voice of my childhood? When you played some of the ads and promo voice overs, I recognized it instantly! i'd seen Cassidy as Lurch of course, and even some of his other roles. But somehow, I never put the voice together with the actor. Well done!
I always liked him as Lurch, but I never realised he did so much voice work. Both as a narrator or voicing a character. He was clearly a very talented man. Both academically and from a sporting perspective.
It's sad we lost him at only 46 years old. RIP Ted, you were taken too soon.
This was so interesting and fun! I loved learning all this about him. He really was so accomplished. I didn't realize how much he did! He was a huge part of my childhood. Thank you for all the clips as well, enjoyed this! 😊 Subscribed.
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@CoolClassics you rang 😂😂😂😂sorry I couldn't resist saying that
Your documentary is amazing! So much work has gone into it, and I for one greatly appreciate all your efforts. I grew up in the 60s with Ted Cassidy on tv and in the movies, and it is wonderful knowing more about his life and career. Thank you so much for this, I will subscribe and watch your other videos for sure!
Wow, thank you!
Bigger and better but the people around you made you feel less! this is how society and insecurity can make us feel bad. this should be basic training for humans as kids. Either how to not do this to others or how to protect ourselves from it. Thank you Mr. Cassidy for your great work and your contribution to humankind!
Very true, it is uncomfortable to outgrow all of the kids around you!
he was aw@ome
I had the biggest crush on Ted, I loved him as lurch.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😘😘
He was a good-looking guy, it's hard to believe anybody wouldn't confuse him with a monster
This man is a legend he should get a star in Hollywood 🤠
Hollywood sucks ..
Lurch was my favorite on the Addams Family. I had no idea he played and narrated so many, many parts. Even famous ones too.He was great in all of them. So happy to have run across your video about this great actor mostly known as Lurch.
Such a gorgeous voice!
And a wonderful face.
He has so much more talent than most.
Similar to herman, he is misrepresented.
Love him so much!
