Ted Cassidy was a very good actor & voice over artist.A shame he left us so soon.
It is sad he passed away so young. We enjoyed talking to his son Sean. 😎😎
Ted Cassidy was such a handsome man. It's too bad that he wasn't chosen for leading man roles.
His son said he didn't think he got a lot of leading rolls because he was so tall.😎😎
@@jbinthehills Yes, I heard him say that, too. It's a shame. Still, he entertained us all.
Its a blessing to have a son who honors, respects and loves his dad
Much respect to and for Sean and his father
It was a pleasure meeting Sean. You can tell he loved and still loves dad.😎😎
Ok. Let me tell you about the time that I met "Lurch"...
I encountered Ted Cassidy in a Sears department store candy line in Glendale, California. I lived "next door" in Eagle Rock. It was in 1970. My good friend "John" (who was just ahead of me in line) had excitedly whispered over to me, "Hey Marty, look how tall that guy that just walked up behind you in line is, he's a giant!" I didn't want to just turn around and disrespectfully stare right up at the guy, so I decided I'd turn around and pretend to 'just be looking for a wall clock to see what time it was getting to be(stores had wall clocks back then!). When I glanced up, I right away saw "Lurch" without any makeup on or wearing his costume! I recognized him right away, who wouldn't? Well, I suppose my friend didn't, he just said some "giant guy", ha! I wanted to say something to "Lurch", but I couldn't think of a single thing to say that wouldn't sound kind of stupid. Well, Sears always gave out free bags of popcorn to kids just so their mouths were full and they wouldn't be able to pester their parents to buy buy buy them things, so I just threw a "fun-knee" joke up to him by saying, "HEY KID... YOU HERE TO GET FREE POPCORN TOO?!" Mr. Cassidy's eyes grew a sparkle in them, letting me know that he thought what I had asked him was humorous, TINY me calling GIANT him a "kid" and all. Then he humored me kindly by slowly groaning out, in true Lurch fashion, " UUUUUUH....PEEEEENUT.... MMMMMM & MMMMMMS!". I laughed to let him know I thought what he had just said and done for me was "really cool". Then we talked for a couple of minutes more. I told him I was there with my mother and two sisters just to get new school clothes, he told me he was just browsing, but that he might pick up some new tools while he was there. Maybe buy a new washing machine because his old one was giving him trouble all the time now. That was on a Sunday afternoon. On Monday, I had the best "bragging rights" story to share before school, during short breaks between classes, at lunch and after school let out too. And I had a good friend to back up my story when other kids tried calling me a liar! I was only 13, and just starting 7th grade, and I was going to a school in Eagle Rock that was both Junior and Senior high, grades 7-12. Even the big kids wanted to hear every detail of what me and Lurch talked about, and specially where we had met so maybe they might visit there and encounter him later on just like I had. The Addams Family show had already ended production by then, 1970. But they still showed reruns at the time, every afternoon even.
Thank you for sharing. That is an awesome story. 😎😎
How fun, Sean seems like such a nice man and looks so much like his Dad. Great photo of you all and I hope he will continue to come back to West Virginia often.❤️

Thank you Bonnie, and John. Was a very fun evening. He is a very nice man, and he took his time with everyone. Such a pleasure to meet him, and author, Christofer Cook. Can’t wait for the books release in August 2024, next Lurch Fest. Can’t wait. I hear Sean is coming back, too.

@@jbinthehills always!! Miss seeing you guys
@@TheGatlinburgHussey We miss seeing you too. 😎😎
Dressed as Lurch, of course he looks like his dad. I Googled him. He was actually better looking than his dad. I'm curious what he looks like without the Lurch makeup on. I appreciate the information he brought to your show. I enjoyed Ted in other roles, such as Twilight Zone, Serving Man, I believe it was called. I didn't realize he did the voice of the Hulk.
We appreciate you watching and commenting. 😎😎
Sean Cassidy, the "Son of Lurch", who even brought "The Son of Thing" with him during his visit! Of course he couldn't let Son of Thing say anything though. But he was right there, and left too!
Thanks for watching. 😎😎
That had to be awesome..Just last week I got to meet and visited with Anne Serling, daughter of Rod Serling.
It was a pleasure to meet Sean. That is cool. You got to meet Anne Serling. Loved watching Night Gallery and The Twilight Zone. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😎😎
Ted, Sean & I have so much in common; I'm 6' 9" (well, like Sean, I've shrunk a tad so, I'm more like 6' 8"), I wear 16 EEE shoes, I'm from Pittsburgh, I went to Pitt for a while, I do voice acting and, so far, almost got a cartoon where I was to voice a Frankenstein-like character and, a lot of people in my life have called me, "Lurch". Some say I even look like him (I don't much see it, though) but, no matter how hard I try, I can't get my voice to go that deep. Even though I've got at least a 6 or 7 octave range! Sometimes, in the morning, I can get close! Maybe it's because I never smoked. But, I'm so used to talking with a voice similar to Sean's that I just eventually gravitate to that after I've been up a few hours.
I never saw myself as tall and, sometimes, I feel like I'm shorter than others. If Sean meant that he was 7 when the show first started shooting, he's the same age as me.
Isn't it odd how both, Ted and John Astin named their kid, Sean?
One thing I would've asked Sean is, if he's still got any copies of his dad's record, "The Lurch"? I've got one and, I just saw a few days ago that it's actually worth a good bit of money! It's not a bank breaker but, it's a lot closer to $100 than its original price of about 35c.
Another thing I'd ask is if he or Ted ever had lots of back trouble. I sure have after I got to be 6' 9"!
Unlike Ted, I went a different route to "stardom", I play drums, which Ted tried to play in one episode of The Addams Family! Sadly, the band broke up shortly before we were about to hit it big and then my singer and guitarist both died a few years later. I also collect records. I never got into basketball, though. The only good thing about it is the cheerleaders!
By the way, there was another guy, his last name was, Arroyo, he also played Cousin Itt on a few episodes.
As for doing Ted's voice, I can think of two people that could come close! One guy is at least as tall as Ted and he was in a Bowery Boys movie playing the part of a deep-voiced butler for a very ghoulish family! John Denher was one of the two evil scientists, an older woman was always trying to find people to feed to her man-eating plant (I JUST saw her name in another video yesterday!!) and another woman in the movie was a vampire. The other guy is the bass singer for The Statler Brothers. I guess Thurl Ravenscroft is dead.
I wish we would have asked Sean if he had a copy of "The Lurch." We appreciate you watching and commenting. 😎😎
Thurl has been gone awhile.
He lived and died in Fullerton, Ca.
I spoke to him on the phone, just once before his passing.
@@lowbaritonewwj I figured he'd have been long since dead by now but, I have no idea when he died.
@@jbinthehills I have an old Bowery Boys movies where a guy that actually tried out for Lurch played a very Lurch-like butler in this movie and he had a pretty deep voice, too. I don't recall his name. I think it was Vince, something.
I was rather disappointed at some of the lame questions, which seemed to focus more on the physical aspect and not as Ted, the real human being. I was glad to see though that the acromegaly rumor was finally laid to rest, but oddly enough, no one actually asked Sean if it was true or not, Sean had to throw that out there himself. Several years ago I read from a poster on RUclips, that just before Ted passed on, he visited a church and accepted Jesus as savior. The poster claimed he heard this story on the radio, the very same day Ted had died, while driving in his car, by a minister who claimed he met Ted and ministered to him, in that church, just a short time before Ted's death. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? Would be nice if you could direct this question to Sean? I still remember the day Ted died. I had just arrived home from school, in which I was in the 8th grade, and my mother shown me his obituary in the newspaper. I still remember going down in our basement, where no one could see me, and crying my eyes out. I loved seeing Ted from a very young age on Star Trek and Lost In Space. The day Ted died was a day after my birthday, in that winter of 1979.
I do not know if Ted had accepted Christ as his savior or not. Ted had heart surgery and went home.A few days later, he was having trouble and passed away at the hospital. We appreciate you watching and commenting. 😎😎
Theres a fool in the audience with a disturbing phone. it beebs all the time and is very anoying.
I know we heard the phone the whole time we were setting there.😎😎
Not to take away anything from Ted, but on the Hulk, after Ted's passing, the grunts and growls were done by Charles Napier
We didn't know that. Thanks for the information. We appreciate you watching. 😎😎
You can see the rusembulance
Sean does look a lot like his Dad. It was a pleasure to meet him. It was very friendly and polite. 😎😎
That was super cool!!
It was a pleasure meeting Sean. He was so friendly and polite. 😎😎
It's a shame that Black Manta & Brainiac weren't mentioned. I love the voices that Ted gave them.
We didn't know Ted was the voice for Black Manta. Thanks for watching and the information. 😎😎
Hey... I'm Nathan Woodruff. I uploaded the picture of Ted Cassidy starting his career at WCOA in Pensacola to Ted's Wikipedia page. My dad and Ted started their careers in broadcasting together in Pensacola. My dad's name is Les. He covered "The White House" for CBS news from 1980 to 1994.
If Sean would like the very high resolution picture of his father at the desk of WCOA he can contact me through the wikipedia link on the picture of his dad there on that website. I have the 70mm negative from the camera which my dad took Ted's picture. I have a desktop scanner that scanned the picture at 9600 DPI. It is uploaded to Wikipedia at 200 DPI.
Thank you for the information. 😎😎
@@jbinthehills You are welcome. I'm fairly certain that Sean would like the copy of the picture. Ted Cassidy's wikipedia page stated the Ted started his career in Dallas Texas. I knew that not to be true and had the photos to back it up. I updated his wikipedia page to include that piece of information as well.
Looking on WCOA's Pensacola Florida's radio website also states Ted Cassidy started his career at that radio station but there is zero proof to back it up. I stopped by WCOA in Pensacola last year when I was in Navarre to visit my older brother to ask if they would like a copy of the picture of Ted for their website, but nobody there would speak to me, even though I told them that my dad used to work there in the late 50's to early 60's.
I also have several pictures of Jerry Lee Lewis playing the piano there at their studio. Nobody there was interested in speaking to me.
What a cool Dad he was. 😪
We enjoyed hearing stories about Ted. He did seem like he was an awesome Dad. It sad he passed away too soon. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
TED CASSIDY
It was a pleasure to meet Sean Cassidy. 😎😎
Thank y’all for sharing another awesome video really enjoy it ❤
You are welcome. We appreciate you watching. 😎😎
So if he was 7 during the Addams Family run, he was probably born during the mid to late 1950’s. If his dad died in 1979, his son must have been late teens or early twenties. Gone too soon!
Sean was young when his Dad passed away. 😎😎

@jbinthehills It was a made for T.V one and only most of the original Addams family cast from the 60s tv show reunited in 1977 with the exception of Blossom Rock who played Grand Mama due to being severely ill in a hospital and could not make the reunion ..but yea u should check it out ,its on here on RUclips to watch its called Halloween with the new Addams family ..very quirky generic imitation of the addams theme even though it was composed by vic mizzy the same composer of the 1960s tv show oddly enough..but yea it was cool seeing the cast togethet again in a tv movie reunion in 1977 grown up Wednesday and Pugsley played by lisa loring and ken weatherwax and of course John astin and carolyn jones as morticia along with jackie coogan as uncle fester n ted cassidy reprising his iconic role as lurch ..im telling u watch that movie and compare his look to how his son sean Cassidy looks in this video
