I still watch the Addams Family today ❤. I have many of the old shows ready to play upon going to bed. They give me comfort that doesn’t come from modern television . My childhood memories fondly have placed a permanent home in my heart for these iconic shows.
Ok. Let me tell you about the time that I met "Lurch"... I encountered Ted Cassidy in a Sears department store candy line in Glendale, California. I lived "next door" in Eagle Rock. It was in 1970. My good friend "John" (who was just ahead of me in line) had excitedly whispered over to me, "Hey Marty, look how tall that guy that just walked up behind you in line is, he's a giant!" I didn't want to just turn around and disrespectfully stare right up at the guy, so I decided I'd turn around and pretend to 'just be looking for a wall clock to see what time it was getting to be(stores had wall clocks back then!). When I glanced up, I right away saw "Lurch" without any makeup on or wearing his costume! I recognized him right away, who wouldn't? Well, I suppose my friend didn't, he just said some "giant guy", ha! I wanted to say something to "Lurch", but I couldn't think of a single thing to say that wouldn't sound kind of stupid. Well, Sears always gave out free bags of popcorn to kids just so their mouths were full and they wouldn't be able to pester their parents to buy buy buy them things, so I just threw a "fun-knee" joke up to him by saying, "HEY KID... YOU HERE TO GET FREE POPCORN TOO?!" Mr. Cassidy's eyes grew a sparkle in them, letting me know that he thought what I had asked him was humorous, TINY me calling GIANT him a "kid" and all. Then he humored me kindly by slowly groaning out, in true Lurch fashion, " UUUUUUH....PEEEEENUT.... MMMMMM & MMMMMMS!". I laughed to let him know I thought what he had just said and done for me was "really cool". Then we talked for a couple of minutes more. I told him I was there with my mother and two sisters just to get new school clothes, he told me he was just browsing, but that he might pick up some new tools while he was there. Maybe buy a new washing machine because his old one was giving him trouble all the time now. That was on a Sunday afternoon. On Monday, I had the best "bragging rights" story to share before school, during short breaks between classes, at lunch and after school let out too. And I had a good friend to back up my story when other kids tried calling me a liar! I was only 13, and just starting 7th grade, and I was going to a school in Eagle Rock that was both Junior and Senior high, grades 7-12. Even the big kids wanted to hear every detail of what me and Lurch talked about, and specially where we had met so maybe they might visit there and encounter him later on just like I had. The Addams Family show had already ended production by then, 1970. But they still showed reruns at the time, every afternoon even.
@@markfrancis1210 I'd have liked spending a day with Ted Cassidy. He really was a very nice guy. A sad loss he had to die so young. Can you imagine what an old man "Lurch" would have been like? And an old "Thing" with arthritis probably, too?
How fun, Sean seems like such a nice man and looks so much like his Dad. Great photo of you all and I hope he will continue to come back to West Virginia often.❤️

Very cool. My mom attended college with Ted in Florida, they shared a drama class. She always said that he was one of the kindest, and gently mannered men she'd ever met. Side note: in my mom's college annual is a sports picture of Ted for the basketball team. In it, he's standing in a crouch with his arms extended, a basketball 'palmed' in each hand.
I have read Mr Cassidy had Acromegaly.I am a 6ft 5 inch woman.15 men's shoe.I have Sotos Syndrome, which is often confused with it. He made "weird," feel more ok. I love Lurch! "Wesley" is one of my favorite songs
Love hearing Sean speak about his Dad; sharing precious and cool moments about their lives❤❤❤❤❤❤My father, Gary S. Paxton, produced Sean's father, Ted Cassidy, on Ted's record, "The Lurch" ❤❤❤❤❤
Please stop the phone from beeping. It is horrible. And I so much wanted to hear his son I got to know his father in Dallas over a few years. I just loved his father.
Addams Family is still one of my favorite shows! Especially the episodes with Vito Scotti, who is my favorite character actor! Ted Cassidy will always be my favorite on the Addams Family! Thank you Sean! I can't get over how much you look like your Dad!
When you study Ted Cassidy's "Lurch" character, it's a very well-thought out character and a testament to Ted's portrayal. He always kept the character moving very slow in every aspect of what he did. From answering the door, to pulling off the hats of visitors, to the way he walked off screen. Ted MADE that character come to life. If he were still with us, he'd know how much he's loved for that character, AND for those great voices in cartoons!!!

I would have liked to ask Sean if he got to visit the "Batman" set since his Dad was a "window guest", dressed as Lurch, in one episode. I would have loved to meet Sean Cassidy. It was very interesting to hear all about his father. What a lucky day. Thank you so much for sharing. Maybe I will be lucky enough to meet him at a comic con. 😊
Ted Cassidy was in radio before the Addams Family. I don't remember, if he was a host, a DJ, or a newsman or a little bit of each, but I read where he worked at a Dallas radio station & reported on the JFK assassination.
I always liked Lurch ( and Thing. To this day I still like to just sit around and do Thing impersonations/gestures). He just seemed like a normal working stiff( no pun intended) just doing his job in some interesting situations and I always felt sympathy for him. And Ted's voice was one of the voices of my childhood. Thank you Sir, for everything you did. Edited: OMG! I forgot that he also played Bigfoot on my favorite TV show, The Six Miilion Dollar Man. 😊😊😊😊
I’m glad he had a good relationship with his dad. That actually says something when a person refers to their parents as mom and dad. I had my grandfather my popop to look up to. But I yearned for a dad and a mom. Mom was there but not much memory of good memories because she had multiple men but none were a dad. Abusing us young children especially my sisters. I lol wanted to live with Gomez and Morticia Addams family

I would have loved to meet Sean Cassidy. It was very interesting to hear all about his father. What a lucky day. Thank you so much for sharing. Maybe I will be lucky enough to meet him at a comic con. 😊

Like dad like Son ....of Lurch 😂😂😂😂❤❤

Ted Cassidy was in radio before the Addams Family. I don't remember, if he was a host, a DJ, or a newsman or a little bit of each, but I read where he worked at a Dallas radio station & reported on the JFK assassination.
He was a DJ . He reported live when JFK died. We appreciate you watching and commenting. 😎😎
Wish he would play Lurch in a future Adams Family movie.
He would be great at Lurch.😎😎
Loved Ted Cassidy as Lurch. 😊❤
He was the best. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
That would be really fun and cool to have Sean come to my hometown dressed as Lurch for Halloween. I'd have to break out my Cousin Itt costume.
It was a pleasure to meet Sean. Thanks for watching. 😎😎

@@TheGatlinburgHussey We miss seeing you too. 😎😎
Ted was a talented actor. Lurch was my favorite character on the show. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😎😎
Ted was big foot in bionic man.. loved his work
Ted was a talented actor. Thanks for watching. 😎😎
We definitely could tell how much Sean loved his Dad. It is sad he passed away so young. We are sorry about your childhood. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😎😎
This is great!
We appreciate you watching
