  • Long time, no see, compadres! Konrad is back, following multiple, challenging ordeals with the plague, but this time, yes, Yours Truly is getting back in shape, and I've managed to do a chunk of sparring with some brand new Cleto Reyes Cheek Protector Headgear. And as an added bonus, I'm going to show you the difference between bona-fide Reyes and counterfeit--and as yet another added bonus I'll briefly return to the Fairtex BVG9 Mexican training gloves, and yes, the subject will be whether or not to use them for sparring.

Heh heh--there was supposed to be a cut after "let's get to it" at 0:57, but oh well! Kind of hilarious, but there you go. Editing is rusty after not having done vids in so long.

Does it feel like this headgear protects your eyes? I have had an eye injury and can't fight anymore but would love to be able to spar on occasion.

Yes--if you wear it right I think you will be fine, as it is very protective. I guess it depends on the nature of the eye injury though. I wouldn't do any sparring if you have had a detached retina (unless you are a pro and getting paid for the risk).

    I just got a Winning FG-2900 and I'm waiting on a Fly Superbar X

Winning are great. But for some reason I've always felt that Cleo just fits my head. I'm curious about the Fly though. I've never been able to adjust to bar-type headguards, but I'm curious what you think about it.

@@gogboxing5655 the Fly says it has an aluminum bar like Winning has that can be bent to fit your face. I ordered one because they look slim and sleek and I might need the extra protection every now and then for whatever reason

Ok so one can take a hard punch with this headgear and don’t get badly hurt?

There are obv never any guarantees, and a lot depends on glove size, your skill level, the skill level of your sparring partners, whether or not you can keep it under control/and how hard is hard sparring for you guys, but if you go to this video ruclips.net/video/x3uUMsEU160/видео.html at about 25 minutes you can see the damage I took from quite a big puncher (who is also much bigger than me) with that head gearon. The bad news was that I walked right into a huge punch from a big hitter. The good news was that 1) aside from a bit of a bruised forehead, I had no real damage. I certainly did not get knocked out, and I had no headache afterward and 2) it's done a good job protecting my nose. It's not nose-guard headgear (I've never liked nose bars), but it's worked great for me, and unless you have a big snozz, you should be pretty ok (but keep your chin down). Is this the best nose protection out there? No, but it's a very good mix of high-quality, good vision, comfort and protection. Good luck... and again, keep your chin down.

Not a fan of that one personally. Can’t see at all when sparring. Open face gives more visions

Agree that open-faced headgear allows better vision. Curious if there is a cheek-protector style headguard you prefer over this one though. Thanks for watching.
