Beatrix Potter work has been one of my inspirations. Her getting away from the busy life to and finding her true self on the calm simplicity on the countryside life is something that resonates with me a lot, as it's something that I've done myself, although not to the same extent and also not as successful I must admit 😂. It's nice learning about the history of one of the most famous children's authors. My favorite stories by this author are The tale of Peter Rabbit, The tale of Tom Kitten, The Roly Poly Pudding and The Tale of the pie and the patty-pan. Before you read the story The Tale of The Pie and The Patty-pan, there's a nursery rhyme attached to it and it's a very old rhyme. And it goes like this Pussycat sits by the fire how should she be fair in walks the little dog says "pussy are you there how do you do mistress pussy mistress pussy how do you do? I thank you kindly little dog I faire as well as you".
We live in a much fortunate time and unfortunate conditions. As an apprentice of arts, we don’t really need to keep a little mouse around to learn how to draw it. With RUclips and Google image search, and Marshall V., it makes learning much easier if one has the will power to carry through. It is also unfortunate due to COVID and other natural declinations. Many of us feel trapped, but the recollections of our observations of life, and the imagination of alternate universes may run free. Beatrix Potter lived in a time that she was trapped in a way. Her desire to further her education in Germany was denied. Her visits to her governess by public transportation or family carriage was denied. Her illustrations was also denied due to her lack of proper formal education and training. She was trapped, but she found a way to break free. We are all trapped by visiable and invisible constraints. Figure out a way like her… ”What can I do? What should I do?” If we don’t know, keep drawing, keep painting, keep writing. Keep ourselves alive and thrive in our secret hideouts.
I’m reading her books to my grandchildren. In English and Spanish my own translations. Such joy.
