Tailor of Gloucester and Peter Rabbit, of course. I sometimes think I liked the Tailor of Gloucester because it helped me with understanding how to say Worcestershire sauce as well as I, who had clumsy fingers for a little girl, had a terrible time doing fine embroidery and stitching. (I still have clumsy fingers!!) Having mice help with embroidery would've been great. My mom was always giving me embroidery hoops. I guess girls don't get those any more. My mom was enchanted by the idea of little girls learning how to embroider and knit. Maybe girls would stop trying to be boys now if they could spend time sewing. (ok, I'm being a little silly, but honest)
I have all of her books collections for my granddaughter and great granddaughter. My aunts mother introduced me to her stories when I was about seven. (I'm now 82). Wish I could see her house 😊.
When my son was little, the Tale of Two Bad Mice was his favorite! This book works on many levels and for children the story of rule breaking/trouble making strikes a deep cord.
My first pet was a hamster I named Hunca Munca. She was extraordinary…an escape artist but lived 4+ years. The day she died, she asked to come out of her cage, took a turn with everybody in the house and died in my hands, much loved and cried over. I was 11 when she died.
@toomignon I had a dollhouse from age 9 with a family of toy mice. I always wanted a real mouse, but did not have one until I was 20. I only had him for two years and he also died in my hands. He was very dear to me and I will never replace him.
Thank you for sharing this. When my son was born I made his nursery yellow and blue and had all Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit motifs, curtains, wall art, bedding. Of course it was more for me, but it was a beautiful room. He never showed any interest in it, but never complained either. I still love her artwork and stories. Her books are kept on a shelf with all my favorite things.
I did the same for my children, in the very early 90s. I also embroidered a beautiful baby sampler for my first born with lots of B. Potter’s characters.
The tale of two bad mice was one of my favorites and I've always loved doll houses. To this day I still collect miniatures. I think probably because of this book! My mom still has my old DH. I just shared this video with her. She'll love it!
As a child l read numerous biographies, from which one can learn so much. Strangely l never came across Beatrix Potter. I would not have appreciated her stories then because l disliked fantasy (odd for a child, l know). As an adult l came to know of her work and frequently read TWO BAD MICE to my son and daughter. I delighted in it too and hearing more about the authoress has increased my appreciation of her character. Thank you.
So wonderfully done video of Beatrice! She's such an amazing lovely woman of her time! She faced many challenges during her life but seems to always stay positive! I've always adored her art and her books! It's sad knowing her parents weren't corporative with her work and that she never married. I can't help but wonder what more works she might have done if that was different! Beatrice Potter has enriched the lives of many, a great contributor to literary and art and will continue to inspire the lives of others in the future! 🐇📖🎨💞
Thanks for the link to the BBC production about the life of Beatrix Potter. I've loved the more recent movie ever since it first came out. It's a pleasure to learn more about this remarkable woman.
Wonderful video. I haven’t read the 2 Bad Mice but have often thought about writing a story about mice living in a doll house. Maybe I will, one day. ❤ SayessDesign
I really enjoyed your video and thank you for all the work you put into it. I am a huge fan of Beatrix Potter, she was an inspiring woman although I don’t think she planned to be. We travelled from Australia for a holiday visiting Scottish relatives and went to Hilltop Farm. It was late in the day, bucketing down with rain and little watery rivers ran down the path to greet us. In the house it was charming but very dark, due to the weather ,time of day and small windows. We were given wind up torches to see everything ,so that the light didn’t degrade the textiles and watercolours on the walls. The torches needed constantly rewinding so it was alternatively hilarious and frustrating. As a quilter, painter and animal lover who loves reading, I thought it was heaven. If I had to choose a story which is very hard, probably Appley Dapply’s Nursery Rhymes as my children knew it by heart.😊
I am a dollhouse enthusiast, and in one of my. houses, I have a Beatrix Potter theme! The house takes place in 1920 and is a Downton Abbey homage. My favorite story is that of Mrs Tiggy Winkle. She is such a purely wonderful character!! Thank you for this video!! :)
Lovely story, but sad also in parts. You have done an excellent comparison and entwining of the two houses. Well done! I can't choose a favourite- whichever one I am reading at the time, is a favourite.
Thank you so much for this well put together presentation. I couldn't fault it and you helped to broaden my understanding of the way social issues were presented through the stories
What a wonderful video! I love that you put clips from the movie "Miss Potter" I love that movie! Thank you for all the great information on her! She was a wonderful Artist and storyteller! I know her life was so lonely, but I wonder if it was different, if we would have all the wonderful stories.. My favorite is the Tale of the 2 Bad mice, because I love dollhouses!
I loved this video - thank you so much. Beatrix Potter has always been a favourite of mine. I love all her books (and all books about her). Impossible for me to pick a favourite - I've always been indecisive - sorry 😊
I remember these stories from my childhood, and this film has been such a treat for someone who loves Beatrix Potter's books and dollhouses as well. Thank you so much💜
Lovely video!! So wonderful to watch! Learned some things I didn’t know. I shutter to think this doll house became broken and in a fit of frustration thrown away 😬😬🥺🥺
I loved Peter Rabbit. He got into nearly as many scrapes as I did. I grew up through the hedge from my prandparents' farm and cucumbers were known to me. A cucumber frame was not, nor did any adults enlighten me. Then, a few years back, I listened to a recording of "Run Rabbit, Run" sung by the "D-Day Darlings". What a theme song for Peter Rabbit that would have made!!
I hate it when 21st century perceptions are inserted and narrated into history as though fact when there is nothing documented. For instance the dolls sat and looked pretty because they are dolls- dolls don't move. If one sits them then they sit. If they are made to stand then they stand. Whatever Beatrix Potter's motivations as to her drawings and narrations are, the bottom line is that she had a talent and a drive to create, which she did. Perhaps you can read into why we all still love the gift of her artistry and stories, as well. As for me I love them because they are cute, warm, and fun and I believe Beatrix felt the same.
It sounds like there was plenty documented. If we can’t analyze history or have thoughts about how different things used to be, especially for women, then we might as well ignore history altogether.
Very enjoyable video, Tasmin but some visual choices (*of unrelated animation characters such as Sponge Bob ! ) I felt spoiled the Victorian vibe..you also cite the characters at the intro as 'infamous', surely you didn't mean that! (*though the actions of the 'Two Bad Mice' is rather deserving of such a status!)
Very pleasant presentation, but I like to be immersed in period videos and not reminded of the present day while watching them. Otherwise, very nice. Thank you.
The Tale of Pigling Bland and The Tale of Samuel Whiskers are my fav Potters whats yours?
I also like The Tale of Pigling Bland. My other favorite is The Tale of Tom Kitten.🤗💕
My favourite is the tale of Peter rabbit and tom kitten! ❤️

Infamous?
Doll's house FFS! Not Dollhouse. Potter was English.
