    • @thomashood9608
      @thomashood9608 3 года назад +1

      im sure they didn't change the entire landscape. but they sure shaped it at the right time. At that point, late 70s, punk was getting old, disco, forget it, what is now called alternative was what we needed. What a great time for music. And the evolution. Heck, only 20 years earlier, it was Sinatra, Perry Como, Tony Bennett. That must have been a sight to see. Then, along came Ray Charles and Elvis.. Awesome. We are blessed to grow up with the birth of rock and roll.....

    LOVE The Police. It's worth noting that England at the time had a massive influx of people from places like Jamaica, and there was a massive boom in reggae music in England. So you had bands like The Police incorporating the sound into their music. Same with UB40. Also Steel Pulse were a popular reggae band in Birmingham.

      Stewart Copeland was in Jamaica and saw how the reggae drummers switched up the beat played by rock, pop and soul drummers into something totally different he also noticed that they rearranged the kit in a different way and he incorporated that into their rock sound.

My kids and I would play this a thousand times plus ten and dance around the house to this regee beat. These guys are in a class above . Their influence in music will stay forever . So cool are are listening to brilliance.

    When I was in marching band in high school we did a show using the music of The Police, including this song. My director was a big fan of them I guess and thought they were good to learn from. Especially their drummer, Stewart Copeland who understands the importance of fundamentals. That show was so much fun to do. Miss those days. Our band mostly did rock groups for our marching seasons and then classical for our concert seasons. We did The Police, Rolling Stones, The Beatles (Tribute to George Harrison - mostly his songs), and then we did another year of Sting...instead of The Police.

I never got to see The Police in concert together being a teenager in the early 80s, but saw Sting (Gordon Sumner) live in concert as an adult in 1991 and then in 1996 in Nashville, TN. Sting is a very rare artist who sounds better live than he does on the album, and what is on the album is always very well done and very good, so it is just incredible to see him live. Try listening to some of his albums and then find some live footage, you'll see what I mean!
