"It was the day you came speeding towards us, with your powerful guns pounding and blazing harder than ever, through the waters of a thick, night time sky, you came to our aid when there was no hope left, your cannons screamed with war, as you exploded every machine gun, cannon, missle launcher and everything you had in your arsenal at the gigantic Lords of man's end, you made the Martians fear you and your gracious power over the five nines of the sea, you fought hard, and heroicly, you never gave up, it was until those demons and their molten ray of fire began piercing your iron heart, but you didnt surrender! You kept on fighting! and you died heroes. We shall sing, eat, drink and celebrate in your name, we will always remember why you was there, and what your mission was, we will always honour you, your bravery and your pride in our hearts. We shall look upon the stars and we will always know that you and your crew of the valiant ship will guide us, now and forever. Farewell to The Heroes of Essex, Farewell to HMS Thunderchild and Long live the British empire!

Possibly the worlds first sci-fi hero ship.
    RIP HMS Thunder Child

HMS Thunder Child's heroic sacrifice will not be forgotten! Damn Martians! They would be no match for our 20th Century American Iowa class Battleships, Nuclear powered Submarines, and modern 21st Century U.S Navy Destroyers. The British warship Thunder Child must be avenged! Death to the Martians! RIP Thunderchild!

"I assume you planted that device because you wanted to learn more about us. I'll be happy to give you a quick lesson. We're not here to make enemies. But just because we're not looking for a fight, doesn't mean we'll run away from one. You may think you've left us defenseless, but let me tell you something about Humans. We don't give up easily. We'll protect Enterprise… any way we can."
    - Captain Johnathan Archer sends a message to their "mysterious friends" (Star Trek: Enterprise" season one episode 12 "Silent Enemy")

First off I LOVE this song it's one of my favs....however does anyone else have a problem with the fact that the Thunderchild is firing at the Martians? In the book Wells makes a point to say she DIDN'T fire, that's how she took out the first one, they didn't know what to make of her only after she rammed the first did she start firing. Again I love this song but that is a HUGE issue for me, anyone know why it got changed?

"Cannons blazing as she came" sounds more spectacular than "the ship continued to silently speed through the water until it hit the tripod and tipped it over". Plus I suspect a load of people who like the musical haven't read the books. It took me 20 years of listening to the soundtrack before I even got around to reading the book. There are a number of "mistakes" in this part of the story. In the musical it sounds as if the first was destroyed by cannon fire, the Martians then released their black smoke before the second was rammed (leaving the third to destroy the Thunderchild). In the book, the Martians release the black smoke prior to the first tripod being rammed and then the second tripod was destroyed by the Thunderchild's boilers overheading and exploding (can't recall the wording but from memory it suggested it was a combination of the shockwave and flying ship parts that hit and took out the second). The releasing of the black smoke in the book prior to the first being rammed is significant - it provided a smoke screen that enabled the ship to change course and target the second tripod. Without the black smoke, the Martians would have realised immediately that the Thunderchild had survived and immediately taken it out.

What is funny about the song is that the book actually has the martians being literally on the surface of the water because they were just tall enough to walk into the ocean. The thunder child took out two of the three near-helpless tripods but the third got a lucky shot in.

BlackholeElite indeed, glory to the empire and glory to the valiant ship that is now past its time.

I know right? You would think the Martians never even heard of naval combat. Quite a puzzling situation we found them in.

I don't like the fact that what happened to the Thunderchild and what she did was changed, but it is still my favourite song throughout the entire of the musical.

in the book there is only three fighting machines vs. the thunderchild in this video it seemed she was fighting the whole invasion force.

Randy Marsh The Thunder Child is a iron clad war ship. If u read the book or watch the film you know more about the story. Because The War Of The World's is a masterpiece!

Madman Loves Power but you have to admit, I think its more badass for the ship to be fighting a whole fucking army rather than three and being destroyed by multiple tripods instead of one would prove that the ship would be tougher and stronger and also more coregous as she still fought when being overrun.

NEEDS TO BEEN SEEN BY CANADA AND THE US

12yellowcab I agree. Seriously, why the heck has this show NEVER come to US or Canada? Do they think there would be no audience for it in this hemisphere? I would absolutely LOVE to go to this show, and I can't be the only one who wants to see this.

alucard624 ikr like at least give it a try, I did try showing this to some of my friends but somehow they didn't seem interested and Jeff did a Q&A so there might be a reason why they aren't able to come to America and Canada

    • @alucard624
      @alucard624 9 лет назад

12yellowcab I guess the general feeling from Jeff is that it's popular everywhere else except in the US and Canada so that's why it never came over here. Has he ever given an official reason as to why neither version of show came to the States or Canada?
