David Lee Roth once described the 80's as place where the music smiled, and the clothing smiled, and people had a good time. The 90's brought depression, darkness, and rock music changed forever after that.
Eddie van Halen is one the best rock guitar players that every walked the planet. David Lee Roth is a total character and still to this day in his mid sixties. Full of energy and very smart.
Never cared much for David(although his energy level is entertaining),but I agree 110% about Eddie.I see all the reactors arguing over who is the best guitar player. They are all fantastic, but I've never seen any of them play anything that Eddie couldn't play in his sleep.
Eddie Van Halen on lead guitar. Widely regarded as one of the great rock guitarists ever. Brother Alex Van Halen on the drums. Thus, the name of the band being "Van Halen." Kings of rocks in the early and mid 80's.
I was unfortunate enough to have caught them in the mid 80's about this time I think. either way. terrible gig. I know that they had their moments but I have always preferred their early studio stuff.
My dad took me to see Van Halen about 5 years ago at the Hollywood Bowl, and it was incredible! So glad I got to see them live! Sadly Eddie Van Halen (the guitar player) passed away today.
Never saw Van Halen live, but I saw David Lee Roth solo in the 80s and his live show was just like what you see in this video - high energy, swinging around on wires above the crowd, gigantic props, and a massive light show - definitely gave you your money's worth!
so crazy that you just did this a couple days ago. RIP Eddie. i never bought any of their albums, but their beats and riffs still live in my head four decades later.

Husband went to their very very early concert mid 70’s and stood in front of Eddie RIP! He said David was like a gymnast, he was incredible according to a 24 year old back then.
Saw Van Halen in concert in the early 80s where they did this song and so many others...great music and entertainment! David Lee Roth was the best!! Love ur reaction!
Wow!!!! What a shocker, I was about to leave my job to go to rehab n I look on my phone n it said that Eddie Van Halen had past away from Throat Cancer at the age of 65 years. Eddie was an icon n in my opinion, the Greatest Rock N Roll Guitarist of all time. Him n his brother Alex Van Halen started the group in the 70's then teamed up with Bass Player Michael Anthony & The Greatest Lead Man in Rock N Roll History, David Lee Roth n then came Sammy Hager. They had so many great hits from the 70's, 80's & 90's. The ones that I like were with David Lee Roth, Panama my favorite, then comes Jump & Jamie's Cryin. Rip Eddie Van Halen, Ur now up in Heaven's Tears playing Panama, just like ur music video flying in the air. God Bless The Van Halen Fam. Wolfgang (Son), Alex (Brother) & Valerie Bertinelli (Ex-Wife).
This name of this song was inspired by a race car :) And the part where you hear a car revving in the background is actually Eddies Lamborghini Mirua. I saw them back in 84,86,07 They were amazing.
My favorite song by them! I grew up in the Panama Canal Zone. My life there was FANTASTIC! We didn't know how lucky we were until it was taken from us! I still cry today for the life I was forced to leave. It's been over 30 years! RIP EDDIE VAN HALEN!
Saw them many times back in the early 80's...couldn't get enough of them! David Lee Roth was the ring leader in the circus, EVH was a guitar god and I loved his facial expressions during a guitar solo. The real voice of the group (although not given enough credit) was Michael Anthony's high pitch background vocals.. All-in-all, I'm glad I was a teenager in the early 80's and experienced the concerts live, as well as the energy they entailed. It's a music era that won't ever be repeated unfortunately.
I Saw Van Halen when they opened up for Black Sabbath In 79' or 80' in Philly. Also saw them in 1981 Their 3rd Album Women and Children First. I was in my last year in High school, one of the best concerts I have seen at the time. They were Loud and Full of Energy, WOW!! I knew they were special when I watch them as the warm up band for Black Sabbath. I am lucky to see so many bands from the 70's in concert in their prime. Tickets were $6 back then for the cheap seats but you could always move down near the stage. The music from the 60's and 70's will be truly missed.
I got to see this tour(1984)..I was 15 and they were Awesome! Saw them again when they reunited for the first time with Dave in 2007, lol,I was 7 months pregnant,I tell my now 12-year-old son that was his first concert. Love them and they are very energetic.
I was fortunate enough to see them live in 2007 when they reunited with David Lee Roth. I was 17. I will never forget what a privilege it was to see them live. EVH, the legend.
Panama is the name of the red convertible they’re driving. The song is all about driving. I saw Van Halen in 1984. They were, and will always be my favorite band.
Wow... I just saw this( 2 days after you loaded it) and I've got goosebumps because a friend posted, not 5 minutes ago that Eddie Van Halen passed today from cancer... Sigh... I'll be listening to this a few times, but I gotta say J, your timing for this one is incredible.
I was at one of the shows in Philly, in 1984 when they were filming the Panama video during the performance. I remember coming out after the concert was over, and I was still deaf from the loud noise for about 1/2 hour after.
Went to 2. Went to this tour and was some of the best and fun times. I feel very lucky to have got to see them twice back in the day. It was all about having a good time. R.I.P. Eddie😢❤
Been seeing them live from the beginning, small Hollywood clubs. Definitely my favorite LIVE band. Probably seen at least 15 times over the years. LOVE Van Hagar. Sammy rocks!
Yes, I saw them in 1981 & 1982 or 1983. I was going to see them in 1984 for this tour but got put in the hospital the day of the concert with the flu. I was soooooo upset that I couldn't go! It was my senior year in high school. Van Halen was so much fun to see in concert! Yes, I loved David Lee Roth. I liked Sammy Hagar too but David was fun to watch.
My first concert when I was 13 was the Donington Monsters of Rock festival in the U.K. Van Halen were on the bill and so were Motley Crue and Ozzy, and it was headlined by AC/DC,what a fantastic day it was!
When they were coming up in the 70s, they would play in front of 20 or 30 people in small clubs and carry themselves like they were playing in front of 20-30,000. They’d put on such an incredible show that everyone who attended would be telling their friends they HAD to come check out this band the next time they played.
Oh, also, David Lee Roth was a New York EMT for a few years. Can you imagine Dave showing up in an ambulance? Ha. And my vote for your next listen is “Hot for Teacher”. But my favorite song of theirs is “Runnin’ With the Devil”. 💜💜💜
@JayveeTV Hi there! Thx so much for reacting to this video! I was so saddened to hear of Eddies passing 😢.. VH was a huge part of my childhood. I first heard this track when I was around 8, & fell in love with the group. I was lucky to have a brother 7yrs older than me, so I got to hear all the 🔥 music in the 80’s! 💙&✌🏻 Rip ~ Eddie 🤘🏻🙏
I loved the days of middle school....coming home to watch MTV and waiting for the next world premiere video to be shown. These were the good ole days when every good song had an equally good video. They were both super important in those days. I've seen Van Halen in concert once and David Lee Roth when he toured on his own. I paid less than $20 to see Van Halen and less than $15 to see David Lee Roth. Tickets were cheap before Ticketmaster took over.
Jay ..please give David Lee Roth: Just A Gigolo a listen. he was the lead singer of Van Halen. ... ...something funny, my ex-wife was from Panama ...Panama, New York lol
My Grandfather raised me & he was a Big Band Leader. He played for me the original "Just A Gigalo" when I was little. Louis Prima & Keely Smith. I wasn't allowed to watch MTV when it first came out but I would sneak. Imagine my surprise when I saw David Lee Roth sing it!! 🤣 I did go to a Van Halen concert & it was high energy the whole way through.

This song is about David Lee Roth’s car..seen Van Halen three times I was born in 1970 forst was in 1984 my first concert and 2008 and 2012 when they reunited with David Lee Roth....shows were great, the party started in the parking lot about 6 hours before the show and everyone was having a great time...
It's all about a car and a stripper both named Panama. During the bridge of the song, after Roth says, "I can barely see the road from the heat comin' off it," you can hear the sound of a car revving in the background. The car is Eddie Van Halen's 1972 Lamborghini Miura S.

so true
Nailed it!
Exactly, everyone got too serious.
I'm pretty sure that David Lee Roth, was somewhat inspired by Jim Dandy of Black Oak Arkansas. Not for sure, just seems like he was.
He was on point with that comment
Eddie van Halen is one the best rock guitar players that every walked the planet. David Lee Roth is a total character and still to this day in his mid sixties. Full of energy and very smart.
I always found him to be a little skeevy, but definitely talented.
He was quite entertaining on the Joe Rogan podcast. Very intelligent guy and he'll talk your ears off!😁

@@snakelite61 what does skeevy mean?? Lol...🤗
Skeevy is a little like creepy mixed with disreputable. I had to think a while for how to define it.
Hey Jay.. Eddie Van Halen passed away today...kind of soul crushing may he Rest In Peace 🌹😢 I loved this when I was a little girl ❤️
Van Halen concerts back in the day were one huge party! So glad to have been alive during that time, it was special living during the 80's.
Just heard the sad news the Eddie Van Halen passed away. The world lost a great one!
This is fun stuff. When I grew up is the only thing that makes being old cool.
David Lee Roth love him or hate him but one of the best front mans.
Great showman for sure.💯✌
True
love him :-)
David is a true performer who will give it his all in every performance. Amazing dude! Love him!
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen, you gave us the best music.
Every house party I went to in the 80's had Van Halen pumping at some point. They were the ultimate party rock band.

80s Van Halen with David Lee! He was a character but we enjoyed him and the music ( I was still in my 20s) 🤣🤣
He was definitely talented, but I always felt there was something skeevy about him.
I was EXTREMELY lucky to grow up in this era with this music....there is NO comparison...we had the best music in the 70's and 80's!!!
They were all business when I saw them at Anaheim Stadium in 1978 with Boston. Before MTV!
Lol hey I was there too... I remember most of it? 😁😎 nah, mostly it was blur but I know I had a good time.
I was unfortunate enough to have caught them in the mid 80's about this time I think. either way. terrible gig. I know that they had their moments but I have always preferred their early studio stuff.
Van Halen with Boston, that is a brilliant combination
That’s so funny. I saw Boston around that time with Sammy Hagar “The Red Rocker” opening! Ha.
