Following yesterday’s events regarding Jake E Lee, I want to say this video is released with the upmost respect to him. I checked first with Friedman before releasing. The news yesterday was heartbreaking, and I wish Jake a swift recovery.
Cheers Andy!! Been a fan of Jake since the mid 80’s so this was a labour of love. Such shocking news about the shooting, just so unthinkable. Wishing him a fast recovery also 🎸🎸
These Friedman IR’s are outstanding. I’ve got the IR-X and I’ve tried the IR-D but sent it back. It wasn’t enough of an improvement over the IR-X to me and I have a feeling I’ll feel the same way about this one. The D was excellent but my X is also fabulous and I’ve got it dialed in great. I don’t see enough of an upgrade in the J for me especially considering I have a custom 55W Plexi that is on its own the best amp I’ve ever played. Friedman really hit it out of the park with these IR’s but they’re milking it.
Now we need Friedman to make a standalone power amp so we can crank this up through a cabinet and make it loud!!! Nice demo, love your playing. Thanks!
My demo unit arrives monday. I'm pretty pumped. I loved the IRD and the IRX was decent also. I think dave is really killing it with these tube preamp peadals. I really want an IR-JJ though.
Jamie, what's up man! I've been eagerly anticipating this video since you mentioned it at Guitar Summit, and wow, it doesn't disappoint! That Jake 800 tone is absolutely killer - it's taking me back to when I modded a Marshall to Jake specs a couple years back - totally beast of an amp and guitar tone. Hearing Friedman's take on it is giving me all sorts of ideas! Hanging with you at Guitar Summit was totally awesome. I was so humbled that you already knew me as the 'George Lynch guy'! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼Your insights and stories were fantastic. I've already booked my hotel for next year's summit. Maybe we can jam together this time? Would love to swap some riffs and gear talk over a few beers again. Anyways, keep rocking brother. Your vids are always top-notch. Let's catch up soon - I'm looking forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve next! Rock on! 🤘🏽🎸
Duuuuuude!! How’s it going Jay!! Awww bless you man, I love watching your videos, and as I said I was referencing them when putting mine together.. so very inspiring. It was awesome to hang, and yes we totally need to play together. I am already looking at options for next year, but I’ll totally be at Summit again, it was great. This pedal is insane, sounds so big, but is so small!! I’d love to check out some of your modded amps. I should visit next time I’m over seeing my Mum!! Stay in touch dude 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@SixStringAlliance hey bro! Yeah it was a blast and yes absolutely do come over when you're in the UK. My studio is a bit of a candy store of amps and gear 😊 Excellent about Guitar Summit next year too! More to look forward to! Drop me an email or text as I have a very cool Star Wars/George Lynch mash up that I need to send to you 😉 Have an awesome day Jamie! OH, btw, yes the pedal is super impressive! I am gonna message Dennis on Monday as I need to get my hands on one! 🤘
@@SixStringAlliance oh very cool! I love my Plexi! Incredible how good they sound! I actually added the bright cap switches to mine after seeing that Dave had done it on the Plex! It’s such an awesome mod! Finally I can get some juicy lower gain tones 😊🙏🏽 enjoy the Plex and let me know what you think of it. Look forward to seeing the video!
Thanks for the review, wondering how different this would sound to something like a helix hx stomp? Similar size, both using IRs. Do the tubes really add much, as sounds like rest of circuit is still digital copy rather than completely analog. So i assume this is digital emulation run through a tube at the end before DA conversion. I genuinely ask as always looking to get best tone for DI recording
It’s nothing like a Helix in the way it works. The front end is 100% analogue with a twin channel high voltage tube section, two 12ax7’s. The modeling is just the power section. The idea is to get away from the menus and complex nature of modellers and digital units. This is essentially a Friedman preamp in a box. It’s brilliant. I also have the IR-X which I use all the time. For DI recording it’s fast and hassle free. You don’t spend hours scrolling through parameters that you don’t really need. I love it! 🎸
@SixStringAlliance thanks for confirming, really good to hear. Do you record via the usb or from the output into a di connection or xlr input on your sound interface?
Sounds great! As good as modelers are these days, I can still hear a difference that the tube and analog circuit in this has vs. a straight up digital modeler or capture unit. It’s just a bit smoother to my ears. Really want to try playing one of these.
Woke to the terrible news this morning that Jake was shot multiple times walking his dog in Vegas. He's in stable condition and recovering in hospital. Still in ICU.

Friedman definitely made the right choice by asking you to make this video. You nailed it mate. Wishing Jake a fast recovery.

Kick-Ass Killer Intro Jam Jamie...
Very thorough product run-down, thank you!
Agreed! Superb!
Excellent, Jamie! All the little nods to Jake’s playing with Ozzy is just sublime! Absolutely love it. Cheers!

Where do I get the lesson in that? BRILLIANT!!
Love that Axis most of all. Great axe.
Praying for Jake!
Been loving your work Jammie, all the way from Lick Library. You thought me a few of the PinkFloyd songs. Thanks for all the work, and smooth playing.

GREAT REVIEW, DID YOU MEAN BALANCED OUT TO THE EFFX RIGHT?
Nice opening playing.
I really like it but have no band to use it in....

The video and audio are out of sync a little. Otherwise you are a star Jamie... A Mon-star!!
What does IR mean? Thanks
Impulse Response. It's the cab simulation portion of the pedal.
