Update on Jake E Lee. He was hit 3 times. He was hit in the chest , arm and foot. Bullets missed all major organs except lung. But he is doing well and expected to make a full recovery. This info direct from his manager who I just spoke with. Got very lucky thankfully!
@PeteThorn i know Pete...this world man...a slow boil. Love your vids and your overall spreading of the sonic love..."Does anybody remember laughter?" (Robert Plant during Stairway in TSRTS movie)
Sad to hear about Jake. Hope he recovers well. Im also glad he's been getting some well deserved recognition these past few years with a new sig guitar, and his name on some Friedman works. Good for him. Good to get his name back out there.
1st, Dear lord I can't believe this happened to Jake E. Lee, I'm praying for him to have a speedy recovery. All us 80s guys love his tone and playing, sounds great as usual Pete!
OMG I am blown away on how incredible you play guitar. You are one of the 5 or so guys they talk about coming out of San Diego, but my word. I'm speechless.
Great to see Jake getting so much love right now, even more so given the dreadful news of his shooting earlier this week. Get well soon Jake and know how much love and respect you have from so many x My Friedman IR-J is out for delivery.....super excited!
I know some are harping on the timing of this. But I’m actually finding myself being comforted by it. Plus, according to the Friedman page, Jake is talking and gave his blessing to go ahead with promoting the new product. Prayers to Jake for a full recovery.
Yeah, in my mind it's actually something Jake is going to need because it will just help him make some more money to pay off the additional bills that he will undoubtably have due to this terrible incident. Reality is we live in a place where this can easily happen, and also we live in a place where medical debt can bury us.
@@PeteThorn When I first heard this I thought what the heck I just saw him in CA with Dave on Tone-Talk. Everything was on the up and up and then this. Absolutely horrible. I am so happy he is alive and I hope he recovers soon so we can hear him play!!!
@@PeteThorn Totally true, and what a sad thought. Have been considering one of the IR line, and for this reason the J has bumped to the top of the list. Cheers for showing some cleans too, most vids probably won't.
I know it's insane. I found out while I was premiering the video, people in the chat told me. I can't believe it. But sounds like he's going to be OK which is so good to hear. Still so disturbing.
@@PeteThorn Wow. I just saw this video and assumed you were giving Jake E. Lee a get well soon salute. Crazy how this news broke while you were premiering the video. Synchronicity can be wild.
Your throw-away demo riffs are better than most recorded material. I'm sort of curious and envious of people who can come up with so many great riffs on the spot. I like this preamp too, it feels more raw and less polite than the other Friedman stuff, and I hope Friedman makes a Synergy module of it.
Got to hand it to you, nobody breaks down a piece of gear down like Thorny! Bottom line, it could be the most versatile peddle you'll own. Yes, the cleans are lush. The mid-gain and high-gain stay tight while retaining pleasant character. And, the lead sounds sing and sustain, allowing overtones to float in and out organically. Dave has cracked the code! I feel like he has tailored the compression for each channel perfectly. An extra special thanks for covering the lower gain sounds, I think this is where a lot of pedals / amps fall short. 😊
As a long time user of the IRX I'm excited for this! Sounds just as awesome as I expected :) Will be cool to add this to the arsenal as a middle ground between the IRX and the IRD, for classic metal especially ;) I do prefer the boost on my own IRX, where it just adds gain in a natural way rather than the TS style which I don't like, but I guess that's a good option to make it appeal to a wider audience. I do wish you could select the type in the software though
Outstanding tune you did with this unit Pete. Friedman gear is awesome stuff. Btw that's a beautiful LP style guitar you had there. Also I'd like to wish Jake a speedy recovery.......he's a lucky man.
No such thing as talent, its nothing but hard HARD work and Mr Thorn has worked hard to where he has got today. HARD WORK. PRACTICE AND MORE PRACTICE. AND GUESS WHAT??? MORE PRACTICE!! AND THEN MORE PRACTICE.
@Pete ... another very very fine killer tune recorded here sir ... WELL DONE ... amazing sound from the #friedman IRJ Jake E. Lee 12ax7 pedal ... and sounds like he WILL recover from the insane gunshots in Vegas ... just waiting for your next recording ;)
Pete, just want to say how much I love your videos. They're well thought out and thorough and you're a damn good player. Thanks for the great reviews! 👍
Thank you, Pete. I've been waiting for someone to give me an idea of what the cleans on this pedal are like as all of the other you tube demos are 100% focused on it's gain sounds. I bought the IR-X after hearing Pete's video on that and I will probably get either a J or a D to go with it. Get well soon, Jake.
According to the latest news Jake is awake and will make a full recovery but jesus christ! The world is falling apart man! All the best to Jake! I hope they find the bastard that did it!
Poor Jake, loved when he burst on the scene, great chops, iconic riffs and shapes - not a whammy bar in sight. Sorry Pete you’ve been hijacked by terrible news - That pedal looks pretty good have to say! Nice review and playing as always!! Timing on this is surreal. Speedy recovery to Jake awful thing to happen to someone. Hope they catch the fkr(s) that did it too!!
Hi Pete! I’m really liking the sounds you dialed in. How do you think this preamp would work on bass guitar? I use a Sansamp GED-2112 rack mount in my live amp setup, which I really dig, and I also use a Sansamp RBI when I don’t want to carry a pair of speaker cabinets. I have a hunch that the gainy channel would really sound incredible for bass guitar.
Suhr Aura. It's such a great guitar. I sat and jammed on it coming up with the solo for a long time and then checked my tuning before I started recording takes and it was still rock solid in tune.
Hey Pete, are you using any Hi or Low cut after the IR on your DAW? I have used this in Helix for cab models. I have struggled getting tones i like using IRs, including with my IR-X. I end up defeating them and running into a cab block in Helix. Admittedly,i haven't tried using IRs since i updated to 2.0 this week. And, yes, prayers for Jake. Recent word is he's gonna pull through!
This might sound corny, and it never dawned on me to do something like this for a “celebrity”, but I wish a bunch of us could be at the hospital when Jake is released. Just to let him know we all still love him.
I’m about to get either the irx or irj, what do you think has more gain. Play a lot of George lynch, VH, Vito bratta type stuff.. can’t decide which one

Thanks for that. 🙏
Uplifting to hear. ❤️
Poor guy - such a stupid thing. Here's to a speedy recovery
Eddie Trunk said the exact same thing.....lol
And pray & hope that Jake makes a speedy recovery from his multiple gunshot wounds we all learned about today. WHY, WHY?!
Great demo as always, Pete
WTF, this comment was how I learned about this.
I find it very strange that it happened on the release date of this product. Almost to coincidental to be random.
Comments on my video as it was premiering was how I learned about it! I can't believe it still.

The craziest timing ever for a product launch. Insane and terrible coincidence. I hope he gets better soon! And I hope this thing sells a zillion!

Where do you insert with a modeler? In front of it or in the effects loop? Does it replace your amp and IR?
