Caitlin first blew up in the tournament last year because she was doing 40 pt games & then Iowa beat the undefeated South Carolina. The record views were from that. Then it blew up even more with the LSU game & Angel Reese.
Her first games of her next season weren't nationally televised. They started airing them because she was causing attention. She broke the viewing records of every national network her games aired on during the regular season. She also broke the women's & Pete Maravich's scoring record before the NCAA tournament even started.
Her rematch with Angel Reese & LSU was a big part of it and the increase in views was astronomical. But people were tuned in then and the ratings didn't decrease, they increased. They just didn't increase as much as they did for the LSU game.
The expectations on Caitlin are completely insane. You are right that fans & the media want her to be superhuman. The league itself does not. It has been growing on it's own. Caitlin just came in & supercharged it. They recognize that she is a rookie and is going to have growing pains. They want the attention but they want the league to be sustainable. The league is taking advantage of the spotlight she brings to also shine attention on other teams & players. It's why Aces games are scheduled right after Indiana games on national television.
Caitlin will get much better and will be a superstar. She's got the skills. She just needs time to adjust. But fans and the media will also adjust as they see more & more of the talent in the wnba and the attention will spread out more. You're already seeing it with the attention on the other rookies like Angel Reese & Cameron Brink. Kate Martin has the 2nd most popular jersey at the moment. We've seen a very similiar thing with the USWNT and the NWSL. People came for the national players after a world cup win & then stayed for their team. It just takes some time.

Now she’s in the nba and angel Reese isn’t there every game to keep that battle in peoples minds and also Caitlin is not hitting the three pointer at the same clip she did in college. Also you have to realize that in college everyone basically have her space to shoot the ball cause they didn’t believe she could make the shit. Now everyone knows she make the shot and now players are actually guarding her. On top of that she doesn’t have a midrange jumper game and she’s not strong enough to drive to the basket and score with contact. So there you have it.

Her play, breaking 45 WNCAA records, most points in a college career male or female, 2nd all time in assists, only player male or female to have a 30 pt triple double, and it was actually 40 pts. The logo threes, a logo three from deeeep, to break the all time women’s record, against Michigan, dropped 49 that game. So much more. If anything, that game elevated Angel Reese. Caitlin had a 60 point game her junior year in HS. Her fame was destiny defined by so many things, including her ridiculous passing ability, stretching the floor ignoring the shot clock, and out possession their opponents. Iowa averaged 90+ points a game her senior year, and lead the nation. It was must see tv, and sold out games at home and on the road. JP

While there are similarities with her game and Steph Curry with the ability to pull up from anywhere I think that's where it ends Steph Curry moves around a lot without the ball and although he is not super athletic as far as jumping he moves fast and his handle is superb caitlin's handle is average and she doesn't move without the ball she only limits herself to the three and that's why she was not able to close the deal in college this is just a fact about basketball unbiased no hate. You are correct with the storyline and the championship game because that is where America was forced to take sides because this happened in America it became more of a black and white thing because of all of the tension and this allowed big companies to cash in including the NBA they don't care about the controversy as long as they sell tickets. Caitlin Clark's effect naturally looks larger because her demographic is larger white America is the largest percentage of people in the country at 70% again this is not a racist statement it's just a fact although there are racists in that 70%. Black people make up 16% of the population so when you look at that attendance at games there's only going to be a limited number because not all black people like sports.
