I saw this video in early 2020, bought myself the car June 2020, and now looking back at this video, and realizing that this very video was the deciding factor of my car purchase. Two year of owning this thing, I gotta say I am with happy with it.
Currently driving this as a loaner from the dealer.. wow. In person, the exhaust is pretty loud in sport mode, and very addicting! Makes my 430i seem really tame!

Sounds incredible, and you guys always do the best job recording car sounds; for some reason, nobody else gets it right! What I don't understand is why this X40 M40i and the 440i sound better than the M4, M5, etc. Okay, so the M4 is getting old, that's fair, but the M5 just launched! I'm talking purely about exhaust sound with the crackles and pops; obviously the M5 has a nicer engine sound, but this has a way nicer exhaust sound!

guys I'm getting the new z4 m40i and was curious if it has the same engine as this? I saw other vids that a x4 m40i got straight piped and I was in love with the pops and crackles and those loud ass farts it made!! so my question: does the new z4 use the same b58 engine?

I got to drive an X4 M40D recently. It was an awesome car, definitely better than the X5 M50D in my book. The X5 was too heavy for my liking, the X4 was much more nimble and more fun to play around in the snow(Drifting and doing Donuts :D).
default on X3/4 M40i without OPF which means only cars before July 2018 sound like this.. all cars after july 2018 have OPF filter and no pops, no bangs and reduced sound

Otto-Partikel-Filter....at least in German;) Similar to the technology for Diesel, this is now mandatory for most new cars starting in MY2019. This one in the video is still a MY18...without OPF.

I just got the new X4 M40i with no OPF. Sounds nothing like this. The guy did something to the crackle map or has a downpipe cos mine sounds nothing like this with no OPF too.
bangs are written in the engine map - sometimes even from the factory, so I wonder then why not all of the manufacturers take advantage of that? think this may be too childish?
