Maybe is the product you use. I had flat and thinning hair because I was using Deva Curl. Turns out that was causing my hair loss. I now use Rizos Curls and I have seen improvement. It did take 6 months for my hair to get thick again.
hey there! i think it might also be because of the kind of layers you have.. if they are not done properly that could be a cause for flatness. i had layers this year and the last, same length but different way, and the way the hair lays is completely different! it is a bit of a trial and error process
Aveda has a rinseless refresh spray that uses micellar water to clean scalp in between wash days. Great for curly hair (and much better for your hair than normal dry shampoo anyway, imo)
I’m a guy who’s 16 and letting my hair grow, and because of my sisters they style my hair to be super nice and curly and so now I watch your videos to help me with my problems. But since I once had short hair and styled it with hair clays and “mens products” I learned that the best dry shampoo for curly hair isn’t an actually dry shampoo but is a texturizing powder used for men with fine hair that needs that lift. I definitely recommend you try them out and just apply to the roots while lifting your hair in sections, it’s light has a light smell or a “manly” smell depending which one you get
Try a perm! That is a more easy and permanent way to get all of your hair curly. A perm is pretty serious so do your research to make sure its right for you, that's what I've done and I love it. I don't have naturally curly hair but I've always wanted it. If your hair has some curls in it the perm may take really well, I believe a perm lasts around 6 months to 1 year, I just did mine around a month or 2 ago
It depends, dos your hair just naturally curl that way or do you have buildup, damage or split ends weighing it down? I’d suggest a good haircut first, then try finger coiling your hair followed by a good medium/strong hold gel. If that doesn’t work, try some hot rollers. Also experiment with styling products, you’ll have to find the routine that best suits your hair and allows it to reach its full curl potential.
I saw the thumbnail & I was like YES🙌🏽 this is my hair & exactly what I need. My only problem is I really only have 1 hand to work with since a stroke. TY so much, I really hope I can get more volume at the root & make my hair look as nice as yours so I can feel better about myself 😊
Unless you NEVER plan to blow out or flat iron your hair straight, don't get deva cut. The deva cut is only for hair that is always worn curly. Your cut now is excellent :-)
@@njay4399 There is a brand called Deva Curl that has a hair care product line, a salon, and a method of cutting wavy, curly and coily hair that alleges to do a better job because it takes into account curl shrinkage and volume. They call it the deva cut. The line has recently been under fire because the hair care products started destroying peoples hair and they initially refused to acknowledge it.
My hairdresser isn’t a curly hair specialist so when I asked for layer she refused to do them cause she said it would make it frizzy. I want to see a curly hair specialist but she’s a family friend so I’m stuck since my parents insist go go there 😬
Find a curly hair specialist! It's the best thing I have ever done. It's more expensive, but worth it. Your parents shouldn't have a say in who you see (unless they are paying for it).
if you do get a hairdresser to give you a layered cut please make sure they know how to cut curly hair too, mine cut it layered and it made my hair look worse
My Deva cut was a disaster. And I hated the way they put me under the hood dryer, which flattened the top and gave me pyramid head. My new (non-Deva) stylist does this interesting thing-she takes a dry section on one side pulls it over to the other side, angles the scissors a certain way and cuts. Repeats on the other side, then addresses the back. Then she washes it and trims the ends. She’s the best stylist I’ve ever had!
I have a friend who is a hairdresser and am sooo l blessed that she knows curly hair, it's so hard to find a hairdresser that understands curly hair when you live in a small town in the UK. But my friend did a diva cut on my hair fir the first time in my life like a month ago and it has changed my hair completely.. I have never seen my hair so curly and bouncy :-)
These are great tips! One tip I discovered that works really well for me is sugar spray. It works like a salt spray but as sugar spray is a humectant is doesn't dry it as salt does. I spray the sugar spray only at the roots and use my curl-defining lotion on the mids and ends. Then I diffuse my hair dry and the roots have lasting volume. I'll spray it all over my hair when I want everything to stay in place better (wind or humidity for instance) There are sugar sprays to buy but its also super easy to make yourself :-)
@@salyx6687 put 1 to 2 teaspoons of sugar, 1 tablespoon of rum, and 1 teaspoon of glycerine in 8 oz of water. You can add a teaspoon of each of the following as well; aloe Vera, flax gel, but they are optional. Also optional is 5-15 drops of your favorite essential oil. Allow the sugar to dissolve completely before using. Keep in a spray bottle and spray on hair for hold and definition.
@@salyx6687 No it dries and then hardens. The cast it makes is similar to mousse and hairspray, except it is a humectant so even though the hair feels dry it won't become dry. It also doesn't smell sweet after it dries which is always the next question lol
A huge tip I've found is to take small bits of the top, wet them down, lightly curl them around my finger, then with a root clip or bobby pin, let them air dry that way.
Using shampoo before conditioner can keep it alkalized and the cuticle open which causes pigment and moisture loss. Conditioner always ph balances the hair and closes the cuticle so conditioner should always be used after shampoo. This is increasingly important for wavy and curly hair types.
My fine 3a high porosity hair actually hates conditioner. Every 3-4 washes I use conditioner but BEFORE I shampoo. If I use conditioner the usual way, my hair becomes limp and flat with hardly any curls.
@@Irishrainy maybe you use one that's too heavy or too much of it? Mine does that too so I learned to go for incredibly small amount and it works great
@@Irishrainy You should try using a vinegar or lemon juice diluted rinse instead of conditioner then as it will close the cuticle but not weigh it down. Mix one part vinegar or lemon juice to three parts water, add essential oils like lemon, orange, rosemary, basil or lavender and shake well. After you shampoo pour this over your hair and let it sit for at least 5 minutes then rinse. Not closing the cuticle leaves the hair vulnerable to becoming damaged and breaking off as well as many other problems so this step is very necessary.
Omg it was hard to believe but I actually had curls at the root for once in my entire curly journey and even volume!!! Thanks so much for the tips!! I also have babyfine, VERY low density hair.

Thank you so much for this video. I’m real low maintenance with my curls but this advice is very practical and easy. Small steps from the tips in this video is where I’ll start coz I ain’t got time to do every single step 😊👍🏽
You're hair is stunning. It doesn't look thin at all. I just started the CGM this past week. I'm hoping to bring back volume to my 3A hair. I've used dr. Broner peppermint castile soap followed with ACV rinse for 2 years and although it gave me the best curls and volume, I know it was not the best for my hair...
I'm just starting on this curly hair journey and not sure if I want to continue. I had no idea how much work it was! My hair is straight if I blow it out, but if I let it air dry it dries wavy/curly. It's long and thinning and fine. It looks great on my wash day but the next day feels and looks like straw and I look downright scary. LOL. I just want to brush it all out and wash it. I don't like having to use so many products on my hair. I'm cheap, so I suppose if I spent more money (which I won't do) I would maybe come out with softer hair. If I don't use anything and let it air dry it curls but is frizzy, no definition. Frustrating. I'm thinking I looked better when I was just wearing it straight. I love your hair. It would be great to achieve the same! Thanks for the videos. I'm still on the fence.
If you blow dry use a diffuser! Use products that will add moisture to your hair. Argan oil is a great choice but don't put it on the roots if you have fine hair. Also brush/comb only when wet and use a wide tooth comb.
@@karenblank1801 Agreed! For starters I would just use moisturizing shampoo & conditioner! While it helps your curls to "train" into the shape better - you don't have to do the full styling routine every day or follow them like it's the bible lol. I had recently the same issue with my face routine. I got fed up with all the splashing of products and just quit. I researched and bought a good basic lotion and just slapped that one on my face every evening. Ironically my face got whole lotta better lol.
Some good tips here 😊. My only beef with the diva curl cut which I've had done before is I feel it's just a way for salons to gauge you. Is it a good way to cut curly hair ? Sure it is but I don't think I should have to pay more than someone who walks in with straight her ...it's not like it takes more time and effort. If someone with straight fine hair walks in and needs it texturized do they pay extra for that? So I think it's a good cut and hair dressers should all learn how to properly cut curly hair absolutely but I think the wording divacurl cut is a way for them to unfairly charge us curly girls more for a cut which I don't agree with that. Sorry that was my small rant on the " diva curl cut". In a perfect world hairdressing school would include a day in in the course on how to cut curly hair ...one can hope 😊. Luckily I've finally found a really good hairdresser that knows how to cut and work with my curly hair with no price gauging.
I'm so glad I found you!! I live in a high humidity climate, what would you recommend? My hair is thick and curls like yours. I usually put it up cuz it just frizzes up. I am new to curly girl, so I'm still transitioning. Oh and the temp here reaches 110+ with 100% humidity...
So first how often do you wash your hair? I do once or twice a week. This will make a big difference. 2 make sure you get it trimmed regularly to help with split ends. Get a product that protects your hair from the humidity (I use Redken products and they have a frizz dismiss line). 3 don't touch your hair while its drying it. 4 Brush it only when its wet dont brush it while its dry. I hope this helped. I have ringlets and this helped me a lot.
My problem is that my hair is not that curly like yours, besides its just a bit wavy from down but when i do a middle part my head looks like a triangle and like the ends of my hair are not straight they are curved and bally its really frustrating.. Can you help me?
Mine to I have strait curly and wavy I use as stiff type mouse, I dry mine with a big diffuser upside down . The trick is to curl it on top with a regular 1 inch iron. Spray with hairspray let it dry 10 minutes or so Go back flip upside down and shake your hair like a spiders in it. Flip back up and primp. If you still have wonky pieces then curl those. It makes my hair look amazing but it’s a good 30 minute hair routine each time.
When i diffuse my hair upside down, it turns out “too voluminous” idk how to describe it (kinda like a lions hair haha) also i’ve had my bangs done a few months ago and if i do it upside down, they look awful! Buuuut, if i do it “normally”, the roots turn out sooo flat but bangs and curls turn out really nice! Does anybody have the similar problem?
My stylist (curly hair specialist) pinned up the top of my hair and did the back regular then unpinned the rest and had me flip my hair forward to diffuse the front.
Thank you for the advice about how much layering. I wish I'd known it in the past. 😫 I have fine 2c/3a hair with bottom sections of hair that are flirting with being straight. I realize now that I need way fewer layers or I'm going to have a flat chunk of hair hanging way below an upper bouncy section of hair.
I have that happening right now. I had so much damage to my hair from a product line that my curls were blown out and frizzy. We’ve been having to cut more for fine hair than curly. But I’ve found it so incredibly difficult to find someone who specializes in curly hair that I like.
Hey ! Great video ! I’m the only one probably who is trying to get a triangle shape like to be more flat on the top . The hair of my crown area is short and didn’t catch up with other hair that’s why I have much more volume on the top . Do you know how to archive to be more flat on the top of the hair ?
Talking about the part...you apply product upside down then flip, use the denman brush to zig zag the part. What do you do to the back? Do you brush that upright again or leave it as it fell after you flipped?
I recently made a video about upright styling vs upside down styling that will better answer all your questions about this topic :) ruclips.net/video/RVK5xJHQaKw/видео.html
My hair always wants to part, too :( and it's so low density and thin that the part is even obvious when it's zig zagged. Bleh. Maybe with more volume at the root I can hide the zig zag part more...thanks for the video :-)
After years of using hairdryers n straightens, the lockdown got me lazy n now following the CG methods. I do the wash, conditioning, then leave in n finally gel. If in a hurry I do use a diffuser n sometimes I'm happy n at times the ends esp look dry. Where am I doing wrong??
it’s weird because my curls are really light, and heavy curls are what people told me is the reason why people have flat/less volume at their roots. any product makes my curls fall. i’ve tried to bunch it up and use a diffuser, nothing works. i’ll try layers, though.
Hi Gena! You have so much great info to share. I appreciate that you are doing that. If I could offer an observation, you speak really quickly, and in a monotone, with the last word higher in pitch. So the combination of those three elements detracts from the great info you have to share. Again, this is an observation about presentation style.
I know my current picture does not show my curls, but if it did you would see that we are hair twins :) I've never seen anyone with a hair that looks so much like mine. I'll definitely subscribe and follow you :)
Hey! thanks for thi video. Ive seen 100s of videos about curly hair but your tips and hacks are different. I have to try to condition first and then cleanse, and also "rewet" the root a little when refreshing. I have a question. My hair is not bounching back on the ends. I have super long hair, but it healthy. No split ends or so. I cut my hair very often and i did a big shop one month ago. i dident helped. Last week i cut inbetween with the special cissor. Helped a little. What do you think i should do/try. Thanks!
I've been getting deva cuts for years but my last one was aweful and still left me with a triangle shape. I just got a rezzo cut and oh man my hair is even more of a triangle now and i paid $75 bucks for it. I don't want to keep spending so much money on my hair, how can i get it cut well regularly next time and How do i hide the triangle in the meantime?
I have short neck length wavy hair that is making a very stubborn and bulky triangle at the bottom. It’s pretty thicc and the strands are thicc and course too what length of layers should I get to help get rid of this bulky triangle look? I’m thinking medium because I’m not bold enough to go too short since my hair is short already. Does anyone have any opinion or options to help me?
Just found your channel and so happy I did ! I also have fine curly hair and your pattern looks a lot like mine. I have a problem with triangle shape but seeing as I already do almost everything that you recommend, I think it's really my hair cut that is in cause. Time to go to the hair salon ! I will however try the conditioner before the shampoo, might help.
Really liked your video especially about the cut. One thing I noticed is that you diffuse w/dryer right on your hair. A I feel healthier way for our curls is to Hover dry with diffuser on med-high heat with same setting. Never let hair touch dryer with hover way. After root is dry then focus on curls. When all dry then break cast with hands n scrunch.

Thank you so much! I have such a hard time with flatness on the back of my hair! I have new tricks to try.
My hair has so much volume in the front, but the back is so flat 😔😔
Same lol
do you have bangs ? if so then thats probably the reason you have volume in the front
My problem is that my hair is not that curly like yours, besides its just a bit wavy from down but when i do a middle part my head looks like a triangle and like the ends of my hair are not straight they are curved and bally its really frustrating.. Can you help me?
Anuja we have the same problem. My hair is mixed with straight and wavy.
Mine to I have strait curly and wavy I use as stiff type mouse, I dry mine with a big diffuser upside down . The trick is to curl it on top with a regular 1 inch iron. Spray with hairspray let it dry 10 minutes or so
Go back flip upside down and shake your hair like a spiders in it. Flip back up and primp. If you still have wonky pieces then curl those. It makes my hair look amazing but it’s a good 30 minute hair routine each time.
I just bought the “Pantene Sulfate-Free Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam”, haven’t tried it yet but I’ve heard great things about it and it’s CGM.
Can you do a video about inexpensive drugstore brands?
Can you add a link with the hairbrush?
When i diffuse my hair upside down, it turns out “too voluminous” idk how to describe it (kinda like a lions hair haha) also i’ve had my bangs done a few months ago and if i do it upside down, they look awful! Buuuut, if i do it “normally”, the roots turn out sooo flat but bangs and curls turn out really nice! Does anybody have the similar problem?
Dry the roots with the diffuser on with your head on the normal position before going upside down.
My stylist (curly hair specialist) pinned up the top of my hair and did the back regular then unpinned the rest and had me flip my hair forward to diffuse the front.
This video is SO helpful. I’m going to try all of this on wash day tomorrow!!
I have this exact problem AND this exact curl type!!
Thank you! This helps so much!!
I have curly hair with no volume. I'll definitely be trying these tips!
Thank you so much for the info. It definitely helped me out. Greatly appreciated. What kind of blow dryer/defuser do you use?
I get so sick of the comments stylists make about my thinning hair. Have they never encountered that before? It amazes me, it is so soul crushing.
Oh my gosh your natural face without makeup is so beautiful
When you condition first do you rinse it out before you shampoo
Talking about the part...you apply product upside down then flip, use the denman brush to zig zag the part. What do you do to the back? Do you brush that upright again or leave it as it fell after you flipped?
I recently made a video about upright styling vs upside down styling that will better answer all your questions about this topic :) ruclips.net/video/RVK5xJHQaKw/видео.html
How do you do your hair when you sleep?
Yes, good question.
I have a video on this already, but I prefer a satin bonnet plus a satin pillowcase 😊
My hair always wants to part, too :( and it's so low density and thin that the part is even obvious when it's zig zagged. Bleh. Maybe with more volume at the root I can hide the zig zag part more...thanks for the video :-)
Hey girl
Thank you! I will try these tips. 😊
Really great video, love your cut and not part.
Thank you!
Great information , thank you 😊.
Would a short curly layered hairstyle solve this problem?
A deeper part will help also. Also a part thats slanted. Need more volume on top top
Silicone nd sulfate free routine
I fucking love you!! I look ecstatically like the thumbnail 😭😭
Thanks!
Your hair is exactly like mine! These are great tips but it is so hard to find some of these products in stores.
Aveda has a new refresh mousse! I jist tried it in the salon
Whenever I try to defuse my hair gets really frizzy- any tips?
Dry conditioner by IKG
do you put styling products all the way to the root?
Yep!
Great information. Thank you¡
Innersense have a dry shampoo that is a mousse is very good
I've heard! That brand is next on my list to test out.
Yes is very nice try it ❤️
Thanks
It's been two years! We both have a problem about triangle shaped hair lol
Did it work?
And is a super clean brand
Super helpful video!! Thank you!!
Susan Haynes I diffuse the same way. For my fine hair, it looks so much better. I use a low temp, so I’m not as worried about damage
how to style hair cause my hair roots curky but ends straight what to do?
You may need a trim if your ends are straight, they could be damaged if you previously heat styled your hair.
Thanks for sharing your video. Here is one that i bought that i use on an occasion. Not Your Mother's
Plump For Joy Body Building Dry Shampoo
Can someone help as i dont know if these work on unnatural overnight curls
Plz comment on my comment to let me know
Thank you
9:20- perfect
thanks for amazing advices :)))
wow!
Dude I’m only watching this to get triangle shape lol I has way to much volume
Innersense has a dry shampoo moose
Deva curl products are not good for your hair. They start to make your hair fall out and a lot of frizz overtime.
Ma has very very curly
Honestly, my hair gets curlier the longer it gets. And it’s quite thin. So my hair is naturally flatter at the roots
