Prayers for Western North Carolina.......
From someone that lived this same scenario with Katrina this will take years to rebound from.
I feel like there was never full recovery from Katrina.

Yes- many years. They are saying this is just as bad as Katrina all over the Western half of North Carolina. They didn't mention how severe the mudslides have been and the homes that have literally slid off mountains and floated down rivers with people trapped inside. Hundreds of helicopter rescues with thousands. More waiting to be rescued. Many towns are completely gone. It is so devastating in the entire Western half of the state and also Eastern Tennessee. So much was not mentioned in this story. There is no gas, no power, no food, no water in most of these towns and most towns were completely underwater. Please pray for all of these communities and our state😢
Flooding at elevation with swiftly moving water is a completely different animal from coastal flooding. I’ve experienced both. Mountain flooding is particularly treacherous.

Asheville/Black Mountain/Swannanoa are some of our favorite places to visit. Such a beautiful place. I recognize several of the places in these vids. This will take awhile to rebuild.
I lived in Brevard and worked in Asheville and I am struggling to recognize any of these places due to the massive destruction. it just looks like a war zone in a 3rd world country.
Times like this people need to pull together and help each other I pray for everyone

Imagine a city the size of Asheville with a compromised water system and having to go to the river to get water to flush your toilets!? Then think of now isolated small communities flooded with roads and bridges gone are. And Georgia and Florida and SC affected badly too. Helene just shows us despite our modern societies how puny we are when Mother Nature gets pissed.

Why didn't they prepare? They had a week's warning. The rest of North Carolina prepares for hurricanes & flooding. They just did nothing. It's very perplexing.
We are ants. We are nothing but bits of dust. Seems to me that if more of humanity understood this simple fact and respected Mother Nature in all her aspects, we wouldn't have so many natural disasters like this. Yes, global warming and cooling is a completely natural cycle. But it is human activity that is making it worse, much worse.

Was it at Mount Mitchell that 30" of rain fell? So many small communities were along rivers, that's how it is in the mountains, so many got wiped off the map. Some communities nobody can reach nor hear from. Please pray and send money for water and food, send rescuers if you can.

I drove Hwy 81 from Roanoke, Virginia to Knoxville on Saturday morning. It was foggy & drizzly. Looking back, I should have left Wednesday before the hurricane hit the coast. It rained all the way across Tennessee. Trees were down, many gas stations & convenient stores were closed due to no electricity. I just realized today, driving 81 was right above where all the flooding was happening at the Tennessee North Carolina border. .
My brother lives in Leicester, about 7 miles northwest of downtown and he lost some trees in the front yard and the power was out, but it's back on now. The water is shut down, but the road in front of his subdivision is completely blocked with debris and landslides.

This is heartbreaking just to see the devastation and suffering of Asheville, and all the areas , states and cities that have been affected by this storm, praying for all the communities and their people. Please don't make this about politics, this is a human catastrophe, help from the President down to God's special earthly angels , which are helping so many, and doing all they can at this time. More help is coming, we are one Nation under God .

North Carolina has the biggest Military base in the United States. Why aren’t we sending are troops to aid with this? We sent them to the Ukraine to hand out supplies but we can’t do it for our own backyard? Honestly this country needs help.
They've been there for two days already. They have over 700 people alone just helping with search and rescue. Military is dropping in supplies and evacuating people.

Sounds easy it's a crowded world not everyone was near a low lying flood plain. 30 inches a rain is catastrophic unless you live on a hill.
There was places that weren't in flood planes that were totally wiped out. Towns are often built around rivers. Water = Life.

I think the repoter needs a bit of education in hydrodynamics. The destruction wasn't caused from the water being "heavy." The enormous destruction is from the hydrodynamics, amount of water flowing, and speed of the water.

I live not far about an hour from Ellicott City Maryland which had 2 biblical floods in 2016 and 2018 as that town is in the process of building a storm mitigation flood tunnel vtmunder their streets outside Baltimore.
Hope that can be considered in Asheville and Hendersonville innthe future.

Because it affected the mountain regions the worst, when rain bearing clouds are pushed higher into the atmosphere by mountains it causes that moisture to condense into a larger droplets thus the cloud produces more rain (that's why you see pictures of mountains in Arizona and stuff like that where the mountains are completely covered in Forest but the lowlands are dry and barren) and as a result the rainfall .n flooding in the mountains was worse then what it was elsewhere not to mention the communities are just not prepared for a rain like this and there are mountains so people are even more concentrated in low-lying areas than a normal situations
Are you aware 30 inches of rain fell in Asheville area. Even those far away from river got flooded a truly thousand year flood
I prayed 6 times for the souls in these devastated areas. My prayers will rebuild their lives & futures.....time for breakfast & Amazon shopping.

I used to live in Asheville. Now I'm really glad I moved out. Now I'm up in Elizabethton TN. The East side of town by Food City got flooded pretty badly but not much happened where I am. Power & internet were out for a day. A power pole got knocked over down the road. But everything is back to normal.
I moved from Brevard 5 years ago and my daughter just moved from Asheville in May and I have never regretted it for a single moment. I live in Jonesborough. Small world.

Trump would probably go in and throw paper towels at people like he did in Puerto Rico when they were devastated. I am so glad we have FEMA and other agencies in our government to help these people. God help us if we ever had to rely on trump to do the right thing and really help people in a situation like this after dismantling our institutions, while stripping people's medicare and social security away.
