It would be better if they indicated, a “customer” (for electricity) means a residence, business, etc., so each “customer” for residences means a family/household-likely more than 1 human being. That said, the power companies doesn’t know how many people are receiving electricity at each residence; so 100,000 “customers” could mean 100,000 to 500,000 people impacted.
Not just that. Insurance companies are screwing people over hard. I heard that even the few people who got flood insurance are getting denied for not having storm surge insurance or vice versa.
Thanks to the young couple for saving their cats and not leaving them behind. This is a terrible flood and the damage will take a long time just to get cleaned up let alone rebuild. This was such a heavy storm that it flooded areas not usually flooded. This happened to people in Colorado when storms stalled in our area with such heavy rain that we were flooded even though we were above flood zone range. It’s a mess to clean up. I wish this couple good luck. We need to support the city of Asheville. Where do we send our dollars?

You know what's wrong with America? We rush to inject politics into the conversation whenever devastation hits our communities instead of recognizing that we are all human beings and Americans. We should unite during these difficult times.
I agree. Let's take a moment to thank all those folks at emergency and weather services coming in from all over the country. Let's also thank the Democrats for keeping the government running this month so that those services would be available now.
I agree. I saw a video of a man saying CERN made this hurricane to get rid of red state people 🤦🏻♀️. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I also saw some that stayed because they thought the same, and they kept their kids and dogs with them. Mother nature doesn't care if it's a red or blue state.
Thank you for sharing your story. We live in Greensboro, NC and love Chimney Rock. Please know the response in Greensboro to help has been so unbelievable. I’m seeing trucks everywhere with water and food and caring Americans who want to help. May we all come together and help restore Western, NC.
It's more important to spend taxpayer money to help the Americans impacted by the storm and not send 2.8BILLION DOLLARS to Ukraine. But Joe and Kamala sent more money to Ukraine instead of helping Americans. As usual.
I can't comprehend the devastation NC has endured. I have nothing to give but many prayers. I'm so happy this couple made it out safely. God kept you safe so He will keep you going forward.

There was a week of warning, and most of the damage was done by a dam, breaking not the storm, you all are so disingenuous because you want your narrative to be true
So sorry your local government did not warn you. I’m in Southern Indiana and knew what was about to happens days before the hit. I knew it would be catastrophic and life ending. I thought others would know too but that is not the case. Preventable deaths. The only action I would have taken would be to drive out of the area. Flee like mad. But I am well aware folks can’t all do that. So sad.
You must not watch the local news, which would be the same news outlets as me here in the Upstate on the NC border. They gave us plenty of warning, you must've not been paying attention. This was an once a century type of event and an act of God. Nothing no one could have done
What an impressive couple! They know what matters and they are self aware about their mental health. I truly hope and pray that you find your neighbors safe and that you get the help you need. Keep telling your story and keep asking for help. Much love to the both of you.
My aunt can’t get out. Both bridges to get out to the wider world, in either direction, are gone. The house is on spring feed reservoir that my grandpa built, and she’s got propane, but maybe only a week worth of food. No one is even talking about the county she lives in because it’s more remote. Chimney Rock is the big city in comparison.
My town is in the middle of it. We didn't do as bad but all around us it's bad. Life here as we knew it is over. My heart hurts so badly for everything I'm seeing. I have water damage and will need to move. There will not be housing. We all feel so lost.
The lady made me cry you could hear the horror in her voice the empathy runs so deep with people that care about other people. This is why it’s important we don’t have someone in office that lacks the compassion or the wisdom to even understand that it’s hurricane season. I will never forget the imagine of him throwing paper towel rolls, the most disrespectful thing he could’ve done. You cannot deny climate change because it’s here it’s happening and it’s effecting everyone.
Thank you for telling your story..I am so sorry for all your loss and the trauma you are going thru. I live in ETennessee and there are so many like you who are suffering here as well..i wish you good health and safety in the days ahead..
A lot of those small towns are not used to getting hurricanes that's why this one caught so many people off guard this is why it devastated small cities and towns
But the 20 inches of rain was forecasted for days before hit. I just don’t fully understand how people didn’t know. But then again, if they just don’t follow things like that then the local government should have warned everyone. The information/forecast was well known days before.
@@LifebyLisa4444I can actually show you what was forcasted, as me and my grandma were sharing it back and forth before hand. Idc WHAT they are claiming, the forecast was 2-4 inches of rain and up to 40 mph winds. Then right at Thursday night and Friday morning, they began raising it AS IT WAS ALREADY FLOODING. Also, we DO get hurricanes, nearly every single year, they are just tropical storms by then. And they absolutely never do this, not ever, this is the only time this has happened even close to this in over 200 years, and the first time it's happened LIKE this this bad ever. I watch the weather literally daily, even multiple times daily, for my area, for the counties my family is in, it's a thing we do. We absolutely did not have a warning, and I have screen shots of our weather from those days from where I sent it back and forth to prove it
Actually we DO get the tropical storms from hurricanes all the time. It's like an expected thing The difference is that they absolutely have never done this. Not ever. A lot of people seem to have the idea that this is just par for the course of a hurricane and no one had ever experienced one and therefore didn't know how to prepare-but the reality is much worse We get tropical storms from the hurricanes regularly, and they always result in just a rough storm, like the ones that wake you up from loud thunder at night, blow around some trash cans, some rain, and they pass So everyone, meteorologists included, expected what has happened every other time when a hurricane turns to a tropical storm and travels inland. But no one expected this. Even meteorologists were in the streets shocked. They didn't warn for evacuation until the flooding was already happening. And for the record, "flash flood warnings" also have never meant anything here. They typically mean either nothing happens, or maybe water will pool up to below your ankles in some areas, or river levels rise, but never enough to make anyone have to fear for their safety, or property. It's not that NC didn't know what to do in a tropical storm, it's that they DID know what to do in a tropical storm, and this one was just different
I’m from the gulf coast, which is usually where hurricanes end up. I was very surprised to see the way the hurricane continued so far on land. I didn’t realise they would cause so much damage inland.
Upstate SC here, don't think most people realize how bad this storm was. It did so much damagenin SC alone. That couple in interview are in Boiling Springs, Spartanburg County. I'm about 20 minutes from there, and let me tell you, we got HAMMERED around here. Worst part of storm came right through this part of state. Hopefully that couple is in someplace with power, because almost all the upstate went dark. Cell service has been bad, if you can get service. Even if you have service, it's almost impossible to use browser or anything to look up info. We were lucky that most of the damage in the upstate was from fallen trees, but even where that couple is now, it got real bad. NC needs serious help now. We here in SC are recovering, and small businesses are cooking up their food and just giving it all away to feed people without power. NC needs as much attention as we can give them. The devastation in western NC is total. I can't believe many places I've been to up there are completely destroyed. I'm worried that the number of missing persons will go up as we start getting more info. It's been very hard to get any news out of these areas due to no cell service.
Not knowing what their going to do the rest of their lives is bad enough. But these people don't know from day to day and that is terrifying. Good luck to them all.
Oh my gosh, my heart just goes out to them. They're in shock and understandably so. Their kitties probably are too. I'm glad they made it out safe, but yes, it's a long road ahead. 🙏💜

Start the drying the airing keep the windows doors all open... open all closet doors attic doors basement doors air air air.. you can start spraying hydrogen peroxide on all surfaces... right away.... bleach is okay but peroxide is better... look up proper mixture amounts... it is paramount you get those areas sprayed down right away.... the water and all it touched is ow contaminated.. I have lived through 17 floods I know how to rebuild how to clean up how to save lots of time money and property,., I can't be there to help everyone so please share this... I am seriously trying to help the best I can... Cut out all wet lumber not the studs not support beams you can use a skill saw to cur the lower portion of the walls out.. Pull out the wet insulation right away use gloves and mask... be careful do not delay hours can make all the difference in the world if you save it or it starts to mold mildew rot..

Please listen to the HAM Radio operators. Many people who live very remote need help.
Also a shout out a mule ranch in NC. That are going to start a mule train to get in very remote areas
Meanwhile, the current administration just sent 2.8 billion more of your dollars to Ukraine instead of helping the Americans who have lost everything.
I was thinking last night that miles are the best option for clearing trees, etc is to use mule teams. They don't need gas to work!

Yes! Hurray for the Ham Radio operators. My late Dad is a "silent key" now. W3IGU. He used to go to Ham Field Days where station operators set up in a field and try to contact as many stations as they can - practicing for such an emergency.

Please stop referring to people without power as "customers." These are human beings! Something is very wrong with the state of our world these days.
I was getting a little annoyed by that too, but I think with her language/accent she was just trying to explain it the best way she could.
The news lady interview bad. She needs to be re trained.
For those affected, you are loved!!

I can’t even imagine the horrendous situation that many of these people are in these beautiful remote areas. I pray they will feel comforted wherever they are.
This is another reason why we need to be focused on Americans who need support and not be naïve that we have all the money in the world for everybody else. We should be focused at home with resources and support on all levels.

Having been through several catastrophic disasters, jumping back in to help can really help mentally. That doesn’t mean therapy later is great but working thru the disaster with your hands and mind, sharing with survivors and rescue workers helps day by day. You see the progress physically as well as mentally. Breaking down here & there. Blessings

I live in a small town outside Chattanooga... Helene was originally tracked going through Chattanooga with the dirty side of the storm. People here are good people, and many are thankful it didn't hit our areas, but it's just like another day to most. They have forgotten that WE could've been Chimney Rock or other areas in NC, right now. They have forgotten that it was a good idea to cancel school on Friday. I wish I could physically help this couple and the residents of Chimney Rock. It's a beautiful area, we've camped and hiked there. Don't give up guys! There are many states around you waiting with open arms.
We were in Ian, took our cats out day of hurricane from Venice into North Port, that hurricane went straight into North Port, scariest thing we ever seen. Water in minutes were up to the doors of the homes. We were in a vrbo. Roofs comong off, hearing metal twist, trees crushing buildings, terrifying. We were stuck 6 days after . Everyone was. After this hurricane we left Florida. PTSD sticks with you. I had nightmares for weeks. Praying for them. For everyone affected by Helene

You know what's wrong with America? We rush to inject politics into the conversation whenever devastation hits our communities instead of recognizing that we are all human beings and Americans. We should unite during these difficult times.

Let's take a moment to thank all those folks at emergency and weather services coming in from all over the country.
Let's also thank the Democrats for keeping the government running this month so that those services would be available now.

It's more important to spend taxpayer money to help the Americans impacted by the storm and not send 2.8BILLION DOLLARS to Ukraine. But Joe and Kamala sent more money to Ukraine instead of helping Americans. As usual.

I hope these people find their way, rebuild and find happiness.
I live in Hendersonville, there was no ample warning. They should have evacuated people on Thursday instead of Friday morning
There was a week of warning, and most of the damage was done by a dam, breaking not the storm, you all are so disingenuous because you want your narrative to be true
I agree. I am in NC. It seems a lack of imagination that this was even possible.
They didn't know it was going to be this bad until it was, even meteorologists were shocked.

It's like an expected thing
The difference is that they absolutely have never done this. Not ever.
A lot of people seem to have the idea that this is just par for the course of a hurricane and no one had ever experienced one and therefore didn't know how to prepare-but the reality is much worse
We get tropical storms from the hurricanes regularly, and they always result in just a rough storm, like the ones that wake you up from loud thunder at night, blow around some trash cans, some rain, and they pass
So everyone, meteorologists included, expected what has happened every other time when a hurricane turns to a tropical storm and travels inland.
Poor young woman is clearly suffering and in shock. I probably would be in the same predicament as it probably feels surreal. ❤🙏🏻

IMPORTANT ... If you plan to rebuild you must start to pull out all wet sheetrock and any insulation that is wet or got wet... Tear it out immediately.
