In my lifetime of 61 years so far, I've never seen this much damage caused inland by a hurricane, whether from the Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico. It will take 5 years to recover completely from this.
I was just there last year with my family visiting Chimney Rock such an amazing place and a beautiful little town. My heart was broken when I seen everything gone in this area. I couldn't believe my eyes when I see the destruction that this hurricane had caused to this area and others. Hopefully this area gets the help it needs and rebounds from this tragic event. It’s an incredibly beautiful place to visit. I am so glad I moved out of there, it’s absolutely a “choice” to live in an area with so many risks, by the water, land slides, power outages, snow, ice, constant flooding and problems, not to mention the ticks/diseases, mosquitoes and bugs. I moved because I was sick of it in 2014, I can’t imagine how I would feel if I was there through this., and I definitely don’t even want to imagine, but I can’t help but feel it❤
This usually where you escape to because its higher ground. I live at sea level near the coast in VA and I've seen devastation but this is awful. Just awful. I feel so bad for this community and others who have been touched by this hurricane.😢
Saddest thing NC mountains have seen in a very long time. I will forever love and remember a place that I grew up. So many fun, artistic and family owned businesses gone. I love you Chimney Rock ❤ Forever
I'm shaken, there's no way to rebuild this town back to its former glory, those buildings are more than half a century old and too much is damaged. It's gone. I used to ride up there all the time with my friends. And sat on the bank of that river .
My wife and I had just exchanged our vows in April 2011. We embarked on our honeymoon without a set destination or itinerary. We fortuitously ended up here. The people, the river, the village, Laura's restaurant at the time, and the bed-and-breakfast room we rented with the looming rock overhead-everything was simply enchanting. Since then, we have made numerous day trips to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, as that's not too far of a drive. Now my heart hurts. I see the people who did nothing wrong get hurt in such a violent way. Just know this. You are strong, tough, and you will rebuild. It will take time and patience, but when you reopen for business, my wife and I (along with our son) will rush to get back and celebrate your victory over this hell that happened to you. Sincerely, The Gotts
I used to drive that road all the time stopped at all the stores and campsites never thought it could flood like this best I can remember all those small towns were at a high elevation.
People are talking about flood insurance, but remember that the last time this happened was in the 1800s. No one would expect Biltmore Village, in Asheville, to flood. That was due to the amount of rain, not proximity to water.
I live near Charlotte. When you are in middle NC you are halfway to the mountains and the beach. Spent my whole childhood and plenty adult years going here and many other places that was devastated in this storm. Since I don't actually live there I know I'm a "tourist " but these places are home away from home for me. I'm so sorry for the locals and people that lost so much bc the locals are what made people like me love these places so much.
Marion was destroyed also. Green Mountain as well Bakerville. They need help. I talk to my cousin from Marion they tried to get out by Old Fort. All areas near there are flooded.
Was looking for good Chimney Rock footage with WIDE shots , thanks. It was incorrectly reported that the Flowering bridge was destroyed , now I see it is only the road that washed out.
@@sfdottie The bridge section itself is still there. Everything that was on the bridge appears to be gone. The section that you see that is missing is the land that the bridge was connected too, over toward the parking area. Where the little red roofed building and paths down to where the river's edge used to be.
As a town commissioner for the town of lake lure, and a 17 year resident, I am truly broken by the devastation. By the grace of God we are alive, and we will persevere! Please only use the town updates or official government and fema update as your source of reliable information other that video and photo footage. Lots of folks keyboard warriors spreading rumors
Brutal. A few years ago, massive thunderstorm generating copious amounts of rains devastated the Ahr Valley in Germany. Water rose from 4 ft to 25 ft within hours. Lots of tragedies.
My question was it still a Hurricane or was it a tropical storm? NC did not receive any kind of warning that it was going to be like this! The path of the Hurricane was well off from Carolina. I don’t understand what really happened here. I’m from Fayetteville NC and out of all 46 years of my life, I have NEVER seen anything like this. It’s very heartbreaking. Prayers, love and hugs sent out to all that have been affected……
Warm ocean water supplies the energy for a hurricane to suck up a lot of the same water. When it gets onto land, all that water has to drop out of the clouds.
No, it was no longer a hurricane when it got there. What was left of Helene was pulled into the stalled upper level low that had been already raining on them for at least 2 days. These two storms merged into a monster rainmaker with very gusty winds.
from 2:44 to 3:25 and again from about 7:00 to 8:10 are images of the bridge below Lake Adger dam on highway 9 which is near Lake Lure but not the same lake ... not really important just a clarification of what you are seeing.
Thank you! I try to compare these to Google Earth and I just spent two hours looking for that dam! Never been to that area, but I imagine it was wonderful. This is so awful for so many. 🙁
Im hurting for all of these folks but it kills me, especially having grown up not far from here, that they'd rather credit Jesus than global climate pattern change for this amazing and terrifying event. All my love, my Carolina Kin. May we all awake with fresh eyes and renewed spirits.
yep or it could be from other things unexplained. humans can cause problems with weather as well. i don't personally belive that the almighty creator nor his son Jesus caused this. i don't think he would directly hurt innocent people. I would think he can know who to destroy if that's what he wanted to do... just my opinion. sending my well wishes and prayers for calm peace and resilient energy./power
Well, kinda two. Helene and a big ol frontal system that sucked it in, then they kinda combined into this mega system. They were talking about the Fujiwhara effect with them last week. Look it up. Crazy stuff!
So so sorry to everyone affected by this, I’m so lost for words,I pray you will have the right leadership to aid in recovery, my God where do you begin 😢🙏 !!
This town, and many other small mountain towns, are obliterated. Sadly, many of these towns sustained to much damage that they will likely never recover from this.
@@VladimirBlarp Its a mess and some structures are destroyed. But there are a lot of structures still standing, most of it looks fine. Huge clean up, lots of road work...but obliterated? Not even close. It looks like the majority of buildings survived just fine.
The devastation is unbelievable. My heart goes out to those affected. My friend lives in Asheville and I just got a text from her today that she is okay. But I don't know if she has a home left after what happened. Asheville was hit hard; some of the beautiful places I know there may not recover, and that is horrific to think about. I can't imagine flood insurance is much of a thing in the mountains. I'm in the Charlotte area, and while we had some flooding and wind damage, it's nothing compared to our friends and family farther west. 💔💔
For me, this is too much eerily like what we went through in New Orleans. People were so critical and judgmental of us and I get that, but we thought we had strong levees and pumps designed by smart engineers that would hold the water back. Of course we should have known better but we had been through dozens of hurricanes and we got a false hope. I never want to say what another would do in these situations because I don't know. I just want to get help to these people. I have admired that area as being the most beautiful in the United States. Wonderful folks in these gorgeous mountains and pray you are getting help.
Worse is no water! I had a days supply and now we have to boil what water comes in via the pipes. Better than Asheville which has no water at all and no cell phone coverage. Being disabled it is hard to have to boil water, 8 saw footage of people going to the river to get water to flush their toilets. The question is what happens while the sewerage plant is not processing sewerage in Asheville since there is no electricity in so many areas? It is a horrible disaster.

Thank you for making this, as heartbreaking it is to see my families 2 towns destroyed. My brother had his house in the back of his business, Coffee on the Rocks on CRV main street. Everything is destroyed for so many. Sending continued prayers to all those residents and business owners! 🙏😩🙏
In my lifetime of 61 years so far, I've never seen this much damage caused inland by a hurricane, whether from the Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico. It will take 5 years to recover completely from this.
Seeing is believing. No words can describe this. Thanks for sharing the video so we all can understand this devastation.
I was on vacation in 4 states drove through the blue ridge mountains areas just ONE month ago. Devastating
This is my family and I's favorite place to visit in NC. Heart goes out to everyone who lost everything and the people who have passed away from this storm.
As a North Carolinian this breaks my heart to see what Mother Nature has done to these towns and cities. Rescue effort will be ongoing I’m sure 😢 God Bless America 🇺🇸
Great job getting there and getting some coverage out.
Grew up fishing lake lure and swimming at that beach. Climbed chimney rock a dozen times. Breaks my heart, look at that marina area. All that debris...just..wow.😢
My heart goes out to all the folks that had to go through this. May God bless you all. Ohio is praying for you guys
There are no words😪😪😪😪
No need for lookie-lous when we have drones thank you . Prayers for recovery. Such a beautiful part of our country.
Prayers for everyone. Maybe all the political signs will wash away and we'll all actually care about each other. Blessings for safety and comfort to all 🙏🙏🙏
I hope for that healing along with you... ❤️🩹

Thanks for sharing this it’s gotten me depressed and I feel deeply for the residents.
I moved because I was sick of it in 2014, I can’t imagine how I would feel if I was there through this., and I definitely don’t even want to imagine, but I can’t help but feel it❤
Interesting. So these facts were well known. Sad. Glad you made the best decision.
@@fartsyfloxy855Actually No being that I am from Minnesota.
We don't endure much of what you experience down south. 💔 🙏 😔
I'm so sorry that this happened. Please be safe❤❤❤ Thank you, first responders. Thank you for helping us to see this
My prayers for everyone affected by this. 🙏
This usually where you escape to because its higher ground. I live at sea level near the coast in VA and I've seen devastation but this is awful. Just awful. I feel so bad for this community and others who have been touched by this hurricane.😢
Higher ground? In the bottom of a valley?
Lord help Your people get through this devastation.
Saddest thing NC mountains have seen in a very long time. I will forever love and remember a place that I grew up. So many fun, artistic and family owned businesses gone. I love you Chimney Rock ❤ Forever
Unbelieveable scenes. Watching from New Zealand. This is not being shown on local news.
Wow, when I was a teenager, I use to live in chimney rock NC. I was a member of Chimney Rock Baptist Church, I will keep y'all in my prayers
Just saw a report of 1000 people unaccounted for in N.C. Keep them in your prayers
Well...they just cant be reached because the power and cell phone service is out. Most are likely okay
The water has obviously receded quite a bit by the time this video was shot. It must have been really horrendous at the peak of the flood.
That breaks my heart. Thank you for the video.
Was just visiting Chimney Rock 2 weeks ago….. heartbreaking 😭
This is immense. Such an incredible lost for so many people living in a dream place. Prayers from Québec.
Sincerely,
The Gotts
Heartbreaking 💔 praying for everyone affected.
And give if you can
I'm from California, it really hurts me to see such devastation. Praying for everyone that is affected from this storm. Please be safe.🙏🏿❤️
I used to drive that road all the time stopped at all the stores and campsites never thought it could flood like this best I can remember all those small towns were at a high elevation.
This may beat some of the best drone footage I’ve ever seen of a disaster my whole life, thank you
I was just thinking of all the poor people who didn't have home insurance because it is SO expensive.
Insurers looked at the risk and said, pass.
Only flood insurance would cover this. It’s going to be a lot more expensive if they even offer it in some places. A lot of companies will pull out.
People are talking about flood insurance, but remember that the last time this happened was in the 1800s. No one would expect Biltmore Village, in Asheville, to flood. That was due to the amount of rain, not proximity to water.
Don’t worry. The govt will bail them out. The same govt they hate so much
@@brendasnow8255 Ah, so it did happen before. And they did not learn the first time.
I was at chimney rock back in October 2014. This totally breaks my heart!! 😭
Was looking for good Chimney Rock footage with WIDE shots , thanks. It was incorrectly reported that the Flowering bridge was destroyed , now I see it is only the road that washed out.
The bridge may be intact, but will the beauty of it ever be restored is the question.
In the shots the flowering bridge is totally gone - the bridge next to it appears to still be there 😢 So very sad.
@@olentangy74 Sure
@@sfdottie The bridge section itself is still there. Everything that was on the bridge appears to be gone. The section that you see that is missing is the land that the bridge was connected too, over toward the parking area. Where the little red roofed building and paths down to where the river's edge used to be.
Thank You for your content …
Much appreciated … we send intentions of well being for all affected by this disaster …
My word! Prayers and best wishes!

Exactly. It's weather modification and geoengineering! We need to end this! Tennessee banned chemtrails but we need more protection as a Nation!
it tracked exactly as predicted into NC with rain amounts as predicted, within relatively narrow zone of uncertainty.
This storm destruction is unfathomable and heartbreaking; have prepared and endured numerous hurricanes on the east NC. 😢 😢
Respects and condolences from High Dez Country in California.
Country Folk can survive!
Not all. 😢
from 2:44 to 3:25 and again from about 7:00 to 8:10 are images of the bridge below Lake Adger dam on highway 9 which is near Lake Lure but not the same lake ... not really important just a clarification of what you are seeing.
Thank you! I try to compare these to Google Earth and I just spent two hours looking for that dam! Never been to that area, but I imagine it was wonderful. This is so awful for so many. 🙁
Incredible footage. Thank you for helping in this way
Prayers going out to every state affected by Helene..
Add tons of cash as well to those prayers
These videos are powerful and well done. The silence is deafening.
Being a prepper looks more like a good ideal all the time.
You can stockpile food, but you can't defend against water. It will do as it wishes.
Gotta avoid those flood zones and potential mud slides. Sadly alot of cheap land is exactly in spots like that.
Stop building in the flood plain of a river or creek .
Many prayers & much love to my neighborsin our mountains😢🙏…So heartbreaking and sad…
@winniejohnson5559 Yours is a message that should be shared and, selfishly, more widely accepted and acknowledged.
Wow!!!
Such devastation!!!
Prayers for everyone from that area!
One storm did all that devastation. I'm having a hard time processing that.
Well, kinda two. Helene and a big ol frontal system that sucked it in, then they kinda combined into this mega system. They were talking about the Fujiwhara effect with them last week. Look it up. Crazy stuff!
Helene came through right after the area had received heavy precipitation in a previous storm thus the ground was already saturated.
@@michaeldeierhoi4096Yes, it had already been raining heavily here in East Tennessee for 2 days, then the tropical storm hit.
Really? Happens all the time in large tornados and in hurricane ally
It spawned other storms.
This town hardly looks "obliterated"
@@donkey3187 well, it does to me.
@@VladimirBlarp Its a mess and some structures are destroyed. But there are a lot of structures still standing, most of it looks fine. Huge clean up, lots of road work...but obliterated? Not even close. It looks like the majority of buildings survived just fine.
All by design.
This is what 15 inches of rain in a 72 hour period looks like
Was 30".
We went through there to see chimney rock 5 yrs ago and I said to my wife look there’s barley any water flowing . Wow just unbelievable.
They're lucky that damn didn't break! If that damn would've broke, it would've been catastrophic damage downstream!
"Dam"
@@mattywho8485 Typo!
IT SAD PEOPLE LOST EVERY THING. NO. POWER
God be with everyone. My favorite place. Lake Lure❤ My church family are there to help. Grace Baptist Church Horry County. Ill be praying Miss Tina❤
