It's rare for me to comment anything on a video, like EVER. I tend to keep opinions to myself in fear of how others would react to them, wether it'd be in hostility or positivity. But, because of how mixed the reception of the fight is, I felt like it would be right to give my opinion on not just the fight, but the episode. Excuse the wall of text I'm dropping lol.
The analysis (analysises? analysees? whatever the plural version of analysis is) where great! Kratos and Asura are VERY story-heavy characters which, in my opinion, are one of the reasons people love them. My knowledge on both God of War and Asura's Wrath are very limited and come from a friend lore dumping GOW on me and watching a video about Asura's Wrath. I know a BIT of the characters and there stories, and I think the Death Battle's analysis did well on discussing their stories.
And then there's the fight...hoo boy.
The start is strange. They should have gone with the approach of how the storyboards did. Kratos defending Mithra from the weird goblin guys, Asura running into the arena, looks at Kratos and thinks he's attacking Mithra, and fighting happens. The fighting itself is...fine. Asura doesn't really have anything trade of Kratos's swords, bows, arrows, and mystical weapons other than fists and energy blasts. Energy blasts vs arrows would've been neat, however, as it would introduce far-ranged combat to the fight. It just didn't sit well with me.
The finale felt strange too. I don't think I can discuss the episode, hell ANYONE in general, without bringing up 6:11 It feels dorky, and, from my knowledge, out of character. Kratos smirking felt like actual aura farming, where he just kinda did a "cool" thing to do a "cool" thing. It wasn't cool. It looked like that one Superman panel where he's sniffing a green gas and saying "My favourite". The Wyzen reference was charming, and genuinely cool as hell. And even the "DEATH HAS NOT EARNED ME YET!" line gave me chills. It just...felt weird, man. The "epic smirk" bugs me so much it takes out all the hype the seen had, but the death line brought it all back.
The death is also really strange. Honestly, you stole the words out of my mouth with you take, because we're practically on the same boat. Kratos calling Asura a "monster" was weird. Kratos walking away from a grieving Mithra was a pretty fucked move, and just didn't sit right. Describing my opinions on the death would just be me paraphrasing you, so I'll stop.
The conclusion's fine. I heard both sides come up with many arguments for either winning, and that's awesome. I don't care about the debate, because I don't like the "versus debating" part of versus debating. I don't like doing math.
This was so dissapointing, and it hurts. Both the pre fight and post fight analysis where great, and do well explaining the characters and the debate. But the fight just...urks me. It lives up to the hype sometimes, but some jank with Kratos's model (epic 6:11 reference), the dynamic being a bit too repetitive, and some dialogue choices really bug me. Did I like the episode? No. Do I hate the episode? No. Do I just find it okay? Yes, and that sucks, because the team is clearly passionate about both series and the matchup, hyping it up like it was a huge event. A solid 6/10 for me.
But if anyone is reading this all the way to this part, if you liked the episode, awesome! That's great for you, and I'm fine with that! But for me, I didn't, and it was hard to come to that conclusion because of how cool both characters are, and the hype. Maybe it's on me for having high expectations for a matchup were I know barely ANYTHING about either characters.
Anyways, NEXT TIME IS GHOST RIDER VS SPAWN!!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! It was one of my most wanted for a good while, and I'm glad its happening. Rooting Spawn, betting Rider.
Anyways, hope any reader liked this wall of text lol. Took me a good while.
When you said realm of gods I clapped
I think the fight may have been passable (Kind of) if the music had been more blood pumping, not saying the track we got was bad it just didn't fit the fight all that well.
Edit: I did enjoy the episode the wyzen punch was my favorite part
I basically agree with everything you said. The episode had some cool stuff that makes it not my least favorite episode of all time, but its overwhelming problems make it one of the more disappointing episodes in the show (though Kratos vs Asura is less disappointing than Jason vs Michael imo). Kinda sucks people are using it as an excuse to hate on Kratos vs Asura as a MU, but I guess there's not much that can be done about that. Great review
Is it cake
I understand that Kratos vs Asura is the most divisive Death Battle, but let’s not put the blame on DevilArtemis or the Death Battle team. We have to be better.
I certainly didn’t blame anybody in this video lol
@@AquaStudiosYTI meant to say Kratos vs Asura is the most split and divisive Death Battle. And the people who did not like it should not blame DevilArtemis or the Death Battle team. They must be better.
I’d say we did it better ngl
Mhm
No the fuck we didn’t lol
So I have a question do you think this episode is better then Cole VS Alex? Just curious.
I think Colex is a better animation but has a significantly worse analysis. so about even honestly
@ Damn…..
4:23 say that again?
Can we agree on this?
CHAD KRATOS VS ASURA > Virgin Kratos vs Spawn
