    This was so cool! I wonder how this would look if Lego tried a similar thing today, with that all in one electronic brick. Either way, really hoping to see a video on the dsdk at some point. Love your work!

      I think the closest modern analog is the 75253 Droid Commander set. We haven't actually had a chance to play with that though, and it might already be EoL.

    I love this set, lots of great and unusual pieces, in white, so good for star wars models and the funny micro scout forces some creativity to get many functions out of it

    Thanks for sharing! A friend of mine had one of these, but it was broken. I've always been curious about it tho, but now I know what it could do :)

      @@NonsenseWars Oh that was a loong time ago. Tbf I don't even know for sure it was broken, they may just have been too lazy to replace the batteries...
      It did nothing at all.

    great video, probably been asked before, but do I necessarily have to use the software for the Robot-Motor to work or does it work in it's own, meaning I can buy a functional one now and have fun with it because I dont have anything that can be an XP machine?

    • @NonsenseWars
      @NonsenseWars  Год назад +1

      The actual brick doesn't need any programming; you only need the CDs for the instructions and tutorials.

    My Dark Side Dev kit came with a red output port as should be the norm. Maybe yours was misassembled?

      That's what we suspected, but we didn't have a lot of data to go off!

    I just bought this set sealed and it’s got me questioning. All the pieces came bagged with no plastic tub thing and there’s no CD. ALSO every bag had a duplicate including the battery motor thing??? I think I got two sets in one but also no CD. Google isn’t helping much and this is the only review I can find. If you have an idea of what I got please let me know!

    • @NonsenseWars
      @NonsenseWars  Год назад

      My guess would be that it wasn't actually new, but without looking at the listing or the box in detail it's hard to say. If you need the CD there was a site where we found ISOs of a bunch of old LEGO software, but sadly I can't find it at the moment...

    btw the the micro scout in the dsdk is not a misprint it is how they all are they just never put it in the instructions with blue

    • @NonsenseWars
      @NonsenseWars  Год назад

      So what you're saying is that it's the _instructions_ that have the misprint LOL

    • @shawns_Lego
      @shawns_Lego Год назад

      yes i am i found it very odd with mine but everywhere i saw this on the internet it's blue on the micro-scout. i also would assume they made it blue and not red so they didnt have to make different colors of the same part since in most cases you won't see the blue color when assembled

    Watching this in 2024 but did you have windstorms and the DDK software installed at the same time?
    I think if you did then you got access to additional instructions.

    I saw a commercial for this set as a kid, the one that has a bunch of droids dancing around with claims that you can program it to do whatever you imagine! I became obsessed, begged my parents to get it for me for Christmas, while I dreamed of programming my own dancing robot.
    My parents bought it for me for Christmas, even though it was hard to find at the time, and a bit outside their price range; it was my "Big Gift" for the year. I was so excited when I got it!
    It ended up being the most disappointing Christmas gift, and most disappointing Lego set, that I have EVER received. To this day, my mom likes to bring it up, "Remember that expensive Lego set we bought you as a kid but you didn't play with?" I DID play with it, or at least tried to. But that motor was an overpriced piece of junk (it didn't detect/react properly to light, so stuff like the "repeat a pattern" that you demonstrated flat-out didn't work), and that commercial was false advertising.

    • @NonsenseWars
      @NonsenseWars  5 месяцев назад +1

      Scathing, lol. Although weirdly enough, I definitely think this set was more disappointing as a kid than as an adult!

    • @anilyilmaz2002
      @anilyilmaz2002 4 месяца назад +1

      Right. As an adult you can utilize the Microscout with custom programming in VLL and a fiberoptic cable to communicate with the RCX and hence the PC.@@NonsenseWars But this is way too complicated for a kid.

    • @NonsenseWars
      @NonsenseWars  4 месяца назад +2

      @@anilyilmaz2002 Not necessarily that... I think as a kid all I could see was what the set _couldn't_ do with just one motor and one light sensor, but as an adult I'm impressed by what they _could_ do with just one motor and one light sensor lol

  • @jimlewis1
    @jimlewis1 2 года назад

    I really liked that you went all the way to integrating the RCX in one of the models. This was branded as a Mindsotrms set, so I thin this was intended by the designers. The R2 also has a design that seems intended to incorporate the RCX although adding motors to the wheels would require quite some redesign. A third motor could drive the head as well I think. I used the Boost hub in the R2 model as this gives a much easier way to have directional control and use the external motor for the head. Video is here: ruclips.net/video/woHFJ_AheP4/видео.html

    • @NonsenseWars
      @NonsenseWars  2 года назад +1

      They really didn't elaborate much on how you were supposed to integrate the RCX. I do wonder if they simply wanted users to explore or if they meant to flesh it out but never got around to it.
