- Bending Flat Bar into Rings using a Hammer and Rail Track - 50mm x 6mm (2" x 1/4" )Flat bar.
I am making these flat bar rings as I needed the rings to put on some steel wheel hubs I have made, this will give the project the exact look I wanted, although I do not make the wheels in the video, there is a photo of the finished wheel, at the end of the video.
I just love the rustic look of hammered metal, it goes very well with the other thing I like, Rebar.
The Flat Bar is 50mm x 6mm (2" x 1/4" )

Hope you found something of use in my video or at least found it entertaining.

Gavin, you really are the master. Of all of the welders I’ve seen on here you’re the one to actually prep the joint before grabbing the welder. Those notched joints are never going to break!
Thank you very much Tom, it is nice to have a good joint, I appreciate your comment.
No ring roller needed here! Nice job!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. Cheers!
This wonderful human does not have the views and subscriptions that his projects portray.
If the projects deserve the views they will get them. I am very happy with how my channel is going, and the great people that watch and comment on the channel. Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
WOW! You make moving steel look so simple but I personally know it is not. It takes a lot of practice and patience to get it right. Looking forward to the associated project the wheels are going on! Thanks for posting and take care!
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. I have had a bit of practice at this stuff, and that is the key, it's just time on the tools that makes you improve. Also helps is you enjoy what you are doing. Cheers! Bigmotter, I appreciate your comment.
BIG COMPLIMENT !! exact like a swisswatch ... kinde regards from Switzerland !!!!
Thank you very much, I very much appreciate your comment. Greetings from Australia. Cheers!
im looking forward to your next rebar project.
Thank you Alan, I will see what I can do.
That’s wheely good work😃 👍🏴
Hahaha Cheers!
I just found your channel with this video. As a self taught wannabe welder/ fabricator i really like your style gday from the state's 👍
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. I wish you the best for your future projects.
As a full time 60 year old plumber and a part time body man the way you move metal around is awesome. My hat is off to you. The way you use the simplest tools in your outdoors workshop is inspiring. If id that in Philadelphia Pennsylvania USA my shop would be gone in a heartbeat. Please keep up the inspirational work. Thank you.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it and I appreciate your comment. I try to use simple tools on the channel when I can, I love this stuff.
With skill like that, he could work that metal hanging of a roof😊😊😊
Hahaha, I love your comment.
It's good that you didn't mind that track moving all over! Haha. Drove me nutz watching it. (kidding). I always enjoy watching creative people work their magic. Nice one brother!
I was going to clamp it, but I thought I would rather be able to slide the whole thing around for the camera than have to move the camera. Thank you very much Brent, I appreciate your comment.
Damn, you’re good with a hammer!.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
you have frightening dexterity 👍
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Hello beloved Gavin Clark, I already gave a big LIKE
Thank you very much, Gilberto. Cheers!
As always accurate and looks perfect
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Hi Gaven
Nice project seems to be going well. I believe the process is called bunk bending, we used this process to bend pipe with large radiuses but with hydraulic ram with a die attached. We had a hydraulic angle roll we used for flat bar and angle iron. Thanks for bringing back those memories
No problem at all Richard, I am glad you found it of interest and brought back memories. Cheers! mate
Once again your ingenuity shines bright! My first anvil was railroad iron. I’ve now got a real anvil, but that iron will always be around when I need it.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it Tom.
I’m always amazed how easy you make it look
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. I appreciate your comment.
Im impressed with how parallel you were able to create that curve
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
Outstanding work...and, as always, with only a small outdoor bench and a few tools. Hats off to you.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it, I appreciate your comment, I try to use simple tools if I can. Cheers!
Dear Gavin
It's great how you give rebar a new life. I enjoy your videos
Greetings from a welder/metal worker from the Netherlands
Thank you very much, I am happy you like my videos. Greetings from Australia. Cheers!
Another great vid Gav
Thanks Dmac, I appreciate your comment. Cheers! mate
Who needs a bender when you have a hammer and a bit of railline.
Hahaha, Smart people have benders, I have a hammer, I try to use simple tools on the channel when I can, I do enjoy this stuff. Cheers!
Too few videos Gavin. Buying myself some gear, making a bench, you got me interested in this new hobby
I agree too few videos, I wish you the best for your future projects. Be safe and Cheers!
Yet another great one. Although I'd have clamped the rail to the beach to stop it from moving
Thank you very much. I do clamp it at times, but I don't mind it, I did think I would be twisting it around a bit more for the camera than I did. I appreciate your comment Paul. Cheers!
Nice work,great video👌🏻😄
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Thank you for this wonderful hammering lesson! I would never imagine It would possible to achieve this accuracy without the use of industrial equipments. Already subscribed. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 fro Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it and I very much I appreciate your comment. Greetings from Australia.
Congrats, respect and greetings
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Can't wait to see what these become! 💙 🤗 Looking forward to it! Great video!
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
Very nice work Mr. R.. I've seen several people on RUclips that made themselves a bender for this kind of work... You should make yourself one, and don't forget to bring us along when you do.. Looking forward to seeing the outcome of this project
... Take care and be a better role model..lol..
I agree it would make the projects much easier to do, but I am trying to use simple tools on the channel if I can, and maybe be a bit Old School, I do enjoy this stuff. I am too old to be a better role model, this is as good as I get. Cheers! Gary.
@@GavinClarkdiy I know what you mean, we get set in our ways and change is hard...lol..
You amaze me.
Thank you very much, I love this stuff and I appreciate your comment.
Agradezco tu comentario. Saludos desde Australia.
Thank you.
Thanks for watching.
Bloody awsome mate. Cant wait to see what your making 🙏🏻
Thanks mate, it might be a while before I get it finished. Cheers.
Excellent workmanship, I'm looking forward to seeing more videos. 👍
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. Cheers!
You are truly the master of metal! Thanks for another great video.
Cheers
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
Hi Gavin. Those are some pretty heavy-duty wheels. They have a nice, vintage look to them too. It will be interesting to see what you use them for. I could see them working on an old-style cart or even on a cannon. Thanks for the video!
-mike
Yes, I love the look of the wheels, I now have to make the rest of the project to look better than the wheels, or the wheels will be the star of it. Cheers! Goptools
Awesome!
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
I love fabrication, you are perfect and accurate❤❤❤.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it and I appreciate your comment.
Gavin very nice job. This video was very helpful an very info filled. Thanks so much. cant wait to see more updates an projects and many more videos soon Gavin. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work sir. Forge On. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Forge Lite. Keep Making. God Bless.

Ciao Clark non ti smentisci mai bel progetto gran realizzazione!!! 👍🏼🇮🇹
Well, sir, if there is one thing that I really "h4te" in your videos, is that now I want to do one for and by myself as well. 😁😁😁
Thank you for another great round! Cheers!
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. I wish you the best for your project. Cheers!
It looks so damned easy, when you're bending the metal like this !
Congrats, respect and greetings !😊
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. Greetings from Australia.
I like it.
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
👍👍👍
Thank you…
No problem, thanks for watching.
Great job, the wheels look excellent. Metal is not much fun to bend/work cold, not one of my favorite things to do, but you do make it look easy.
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. Hahaha, I don't think it was one of my favorite things to do on the day, but I did feel good when I got to the welding bit, and the hamering was over. I do like doing these things, cheers! Brett
hi man, are you genius.... greatings..
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. Cheers!
Just stumbled onto your channel and subscribed right away. Love your camera work, I must add.
The misses like's the industrial look, and your style and example have caused me additional work, I'll have you know.😊😊😊
Please, if you would, post your experience, job wise. We're you a fitter, welder? Shipyards, aerospace? Your very handy and know your way around the assembly process. If my inquiry has already been addressed in the prior videos, I apologize.
Pray all are well.
Thank you very much, Welcome to the channel. I was an underground miner, I renovated houses, I made custom furniture and many other things, I have been on tools my whole life. Your misses has good taste, I love the industrial look, she should make you a long list, I wish you the best for your projects. Cheers! mate.
Gavin you would be a great instructor for an introduction to metal work for youths. Once they see you move metal around they would become very inspired to explore the welding trade. I have always been the youngest welder in a shop and I am 49, that is how scarce young welders are here in Ontario Canada. Great project you got going on there and as always welders make the coolest 💩🖖.
Thank you very much, Gregory, I agree all it takes is a bit of inspiration for some of them and a place for them to have a "Play". When I grew up many of us could weld and had project cars/trailers or other projects happening. That is not the case now for the young ones. I think you are on the thought train to make a good change. I have two little ones I hope to help them grow up "Handy" and have the skills to attempt anything and learn. I appreciate your comment.
@@GavinClarkdiy You're welcome Gavin and I appreciate your reply and I have no doubt your 2 little ones will learn a ton from you. Keep welding and showing us your projects mate, they are fantastic 🖖.
Thanks Gregory, Cheers! mate.@@gregoryjohnston6742
Well done sir!
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it.
Would there be any advantage to heating the metal prior to starting the bending process? Great job as usual 👍
Yes, heating it would make it much easier to bend, heat is your friend. I am trying to just use simple tools on the channel if I can. Thank you for your comment.
You need to invest in a C-clamp or two!
I was going to clamp it, but I thought I would rather be able to slide the whole thing around for the camera than have to move the camera. Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
Those wheels turned out awsome.but i have to ask,why not heat the bar to make it a little easier to shape.??
Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it. I agree it would make the project much easier to do, but I am trying to use simple tools and not use heat unless I have to on the channel.
How are you doing GAVIN CLARK I seen this video but forgot to comment I still like to check you videos and see how your going love to all your family and that little guy I seen as you guy bye now 🍸🍾⛲🍸🍾 🌖
Hi Dawn, it is lovely to hear from you, he is learning Karate now and loves it, they grow up so fast. We are all well, I how you are too.
Your project looks like it's making great progress. How's your arm feeling? I wouldn't be able to lift my arm if I tried that.
I have to say, doing both in one afternoon was not a good idea, but all was good, I was happy with how it turned out. Cheers! mate
as always great work Ukraine Nikolaev
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment. Greetings from Australia.
Nicely done, so how long did it really take to hammer one of those out? No where as easy as it it looks.
I think I was on the actual hammer for over an hour, I did the two one after the other. I love this stuff, BUT, it was nice to get to the welding bit, Hahaha
Not being critical because using what you have is awesome, but why not get some 8” pipe and cut rings out it?
You are right, using 8 inch pipe would be the best way to do this, I don't have any so I just made these. Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
LMAO... clamp de boomberclath thing to de bench....!
I was going to, but I thought I would rather be able to slide the whole thing around for the camera, than move the camera, all is good thank you for your comment.
Just give me a call mate , you can use my ring roller anytime!
Thank you very much, I appreciate your offer, but I try to just use simple tools on the channel if I can. Cheers mate.
Why don’t you clamp that timber to the bench stop it moving all over the place 🙆♂️
I do clamp it at times, but I don't mind it, I did think I would be twisting it around a bit more for the camera than I did. I appreciate your comment. Cheers!
Personally, I think he done a great job. Inspiring to make rims for traction engine wheels.
😂
Thumbs down for using a square for a hammer.
Hahaha, yes I have some bad habits, it was just a little tap or two, I will try to be better. Cheers.
Impressive work; you're truly inspiring. I've noticed your strong connection to your bench vise :) - but I'd like to suggest checking out a universal bender (UB 100). It could prove to be quite useful, and they are quite affordable nowadays.
I have to agree with you things are getting more affordable and it would make projects much easier to do, but I am trying to use simple tools on the channel if I can. Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment.
