Philippine telecom companies have room for improvement in their digital services. While other countries are moving towards 6G, the Philippines is still working on improving its digital competitiveness. According to the Digital Competitiveness ranking, the Philippines is currently ranked 58 out of 64 countries. Take a hint PLDT, Globe, and SMART!

What makes Starlink so amazing is how SpaceX managed to build it from pre-existing satellite frequencies. Satellite frequencies are not heavily regulated in most countries that do not have space program. So in reality the technology is not that expensive what makes a regular satellite expensive is the logistics which SpaceX has an advantage in the economy of scale.

There are several Globe and Smart towers that have been upgraded their systems to provide 5G connection by utilizing their existing 4G frequency. As per estimates, there are 10,000+ towers that were upgraded to 5G - and this keeps growing. Testing the reliability of the network won't give us better results using mobile devices due to different factors. For example only the top-of-the -line phones are capable to aggregate bands (carrier aggregation). Having CA on a mobile phone really improve our overall download experience. I would say that Phil is already on the digital age and been competing with other 1st world country in terms of mobile technology adoption. Smart/Globe are partnering with Nokia, Siemens and other tech giants to materialize, achieve, and provide stable and realiable connection even in far-flung areas.

starlink is amazing. I've seen truckers in USA and Canada use it in extremely remote and forest covered places. In Phils.. another vlogger tested it in a remote camping area, placed it on the ground and it works so well. I'm planning to invest on it. I heard they plan to instroduce a "mini-version" soon

I have Starlink here in the United States and it works fantastic. I have also ordered Starlink for my in-laws in the Providence in the Philippines. They have not received it just yet I was assured from Starlink that they will get the GEN three Wi-Fi. You might want to check into that new Wi-Fi you have the GEN two which I have. I also have the ethernet adapter with the GEN three you don’t need that.

I ordered mine on July 26, it arrived August 1 at 19:50 from a supply chain warehouse in Parañaque City. Awesome timing as my Smart/PLDT was due to expire at 20:15 😂. Put the antenna outside on the ground north south direction and was up and running by 21:00. I didn't do the sky survey procedure as I already studied the satellite paths on a tracking website.

Starlink is the best way to go if you are residing in a remote place (i.e mountains, islands) but if you can get fiber connection on your area, i think that would be the best option since having 2k+ as your monthly bill for an internet is way expensive.

    • @Rodekuhr

I was surprised when I was there a few months ago even some smaller islands had posters up about fiber being available. Definitely the better option if available and it seems like it is quickly expanding coverage.

I have waited for 5 years to get a fiber connection here in our province and we have been enjoying this connection for more than 5 years now until a typhoon came and cut-off all our power. My monthly fee for an average speed of 150 mbps download and a 200 plus upload is only 1800 pesos. I guess I should start saving up for an off grid power source and if PLDT forces me to pay more than what I'm paying, I'll consider Starlink. But it is not typhoon #5 category tested so I'll wait. Overall, nice you showed how to make it work. So simple. Good job.
