Prison staff are just so used to giving orders, and having them obeyed. They don’t know what to do with someone who doesn’t just comply! Every time!
They don't know what to do when they're dealing with anyone they have no authority over.
They don't know what to do when someone knows the law. That's the difference. When someone is calm, it's recorded, know the law, they freeze up.

When their only retort to analysis of the facts is "whatever", that is the first step toward them giving up.
It wasn't though, that was him shutting down and deciding to go completely off of his bruised ego. If he had the authority to he would have arrested him right there. He said "whatever", sped off, and then tried to get someone else to arrest him. That "whatever" was him deciding LIA was an enemy. We can't have these personality types in law enforcement or corrections.

As a former security officer one summer between classes, I almost understand the excitement your presence can cause. There are hours and hours and days of tedious boredom with nothing but stupidity from incompetent bosses throwing their orders around to make themselves feel relevant. When someone like you shows up, it's the most exciting thing to happen in a month and they have to rush over and start trying to do something to feel like they aren't at the complete bottom of the food chain for once. Most of the time it works - but not with you! Peace!

I sort of get it, but it has to be about knowing better. I used to pull guard shifts in the Army all the time, and the fear is that you'll actually let something go that you should have caught. No issues with them engaging or trying to find out what's up, there are actual security concerns, but they need to be taught to go away when they're out of their depth.

It's more than mere hopes. Badges, guns, lies and BS nearly always scare anyone away.
They're trained to bluff and make calling the bluff uncomfortable. It allows them to project more power than they actually have, and it almost always works. That's why they're so shocked and confused when someone pushes back. The worst ones double down and rely on qualified immunity if it ever gets to court.

Prison guards are particularly nervous about the public’s 1A rights because if any if of them are abusing or torturing prisoners this might be a way to track one down and meet man to man under different circumstances.

I love it how Sean is so patient waiting for it to click for them, like the guy in the car. I respect the occasional cop who ponders it quietly and concedes Sean's point, asking for a Supervisor. But most do not, they just dig in and look less competent.
All civil servants need to learn two things. It's the people's property and they work for the public. If they're unsure on something, go ask a supervisor or call a lawyer because we the people are sick of you threatening us with men with guns because we're on our property

Love when you get them with the truth. I was a correctional officer in a men's maximum custody institution, and even we were told no photo/ video taking. Nobody questioned it, including me, for the first 5 years 😅😅 We call DOC the Department of Corruption!!

I like Sean's response to the security guard's statement: "I will call law enforcement to have you escorted off." --> "Why would you do that?" That is a nice improvement over the pior "you need to do what you gotta do". The new response makes the point that doing so would not make sense, and when the officer can not answer, it shows a problem with the officer's knowledge or communication skills.
