  • Corbin here, showing you how to use Illustrator to create a vector image from any pixel based image so you can cut it out in vinyl on a Silhouette Cameo or Circut Maker at home. If you like this video, subscribe to encourage me to make more! www.youtube.com...
I'm showing how to do this with Mac OS, but the concepts easily extend to Windows. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to comment below! I'm happy to answer them.

Thank you! This was very helpful for exactly what I needed. And the steps still work in Illustrator 2021.

You can use the Ignore White checkbox in the Image Trace panel to avoid having to delete the duplicate paths later. It will make sure you only create one set of lines in the first place.

Yeah, that's a great tip! I started doing this later on for a lot of my vector image traces. It helps a lot.

I have an image composed of thin lines. What is the thinnest lines a cutter will cut?

    • @CorbinDunn

They'll cut exactly on whatever vector you have, so in theory, down to 0 (ie: overlapping vectors). Really, the thinness is about how well you can use a transfer sheet to get it off and on to where you want it.

Very useful, I wish I'd seen this before buying Corel Draw lol

After I image trace it gives me an image with no color, just invisible blue lines.

ImageTrace has options for color...but you don't want those. The cutter just needs a vector line to follow.

or you could print from AI or CorelDraw straight to your cutter. with the plugin from Silhouette

Sure! But the Plugin Costs an extra $40 or something. Why pay for it when you don't have to?
