Convert Raster to Vector in Illustrator

- Learn how to convert raster graphics or images to vector in Adobe Illustrator.
In this episode, we'll learn how to vectorize an image in illustrator and convert some jpeg raster graphics or illustrations into vector format using Image Trace and will determine the best settings for a perfect conversion. There are two different ways for vector conversion depending upon the kind of raster image you have. I cover them both. If you have an image or an illustration in filled color, it needs to be treated differently than the illustration with a sketch or a drawing.

In this video, I also discuss the fundamental difference between raster and vector. Vector graphics or images have a lot of advantages over raster. No matter how much you zoom in to the image, it will never get pixelated because vector images are defined by mathematical formula unlike raster which is comprised of pixel information. Besides, vector images can be very easily altered and edited. Not only you can change the color of the image but also an raster sketch can be converted to a vector and colored very easily. Also, vector files can be easily imported into Photoshop as smart object and resizing it will never result in loss of quality.
Raster images are usually in the format of JPG or JPEG, BITMAP or PNG which we eventually convert to AI, EPS or SVG. It's important to note that SVG is not supported by most versions of Photoshop and hence you must always save vector image in AI file format after conversion.

Creating a camera that shoots in Vectors is possible but the camera will need a Quantum Computer. Sounds simple.

Forget the vectors....you use Evernote!! Easily the most underrated application in the world! Use everyday!! 😍😄🤓 Illustrator though, this is extremely useful info! I'm a prepress graphic designer at a printing company! Often receive low-res logos, have to vectorize for print. Sometimes I don't have good results with auto trace, but I think the info here will make the difference! 😁👍
