At what point does it stop being a restaurant and start being a cooking pop quiz? "Hello, Mr. Skootie, I am chatmember97, and I know you have done four franchises but do you remember how to make *potato salad with mashed potatoes?* clock is ticking!" And then you dont even get paid

This was an exclusive establishment, an entire restaurant for one person

That's probably a result of the large amount of videos both of new player groups just starting the game and people automating restaurants to heck - both groups tend to fail the moment a new dish is added, so there's a general atmosphere of "new food = failure" floating about.
When you go all-in on food choices, especially with franchises, the customer reductions actually make it a somewhat leisurely game - one of my recent franchise runs had three different types of main dish (fish, pies, pizza - all variants, sides, etc. Even leisurely eating, the dreaded "run-killer" *with* All You Can Eat and its upgrade that makes double-ordering and sides even more common), and the point of failure was exactly overtime 50, with 22 "normal" customers and 5 dinner-rush customers; I wasn't even starting to have trouble until like OT30+

I've been doing my own golden corral run, and my latest run has had maximum 3 customers a day (excluding overtime)
You're making $20 a day, but probably spending hundreds on ingredients
customer order twice would actually be helpful for the money gain here lol, and maybe the rushes but maybe that's too much

It might have been good to upgrade the research desk into a discount desk instead of the hob at the start. You make so little money that the discount desk would be extra goo.
problem is discount desk costs 120 soo
Also since it’s just the 15 days before overtime, you end up only really using it for 2 or 3 things. Def would be good on his final run where he has to go into overtime to get all the sides and starters and stuff.
@@victor_e_dafeet8218TL;DR: with all 9 dishes and all side dishes, its never worth buying a discount desk. After a research desk, you need 1 workstation(40 coins), 1 danger hob(60 coins), 1 coffee table(40). Once you have that, you're good for basically the entire run. You would need to wait 4 uses per blue print to make the purchase of the discount desk worth it(aka 12 additional days), and it already takes about 6-7 days before you can even purchase the discount desk.
Then you have optionally: 1 sharp knife(20), 1 fancy table(60, but gives 50% more money), at which point you would only need 2 discounts, but that's still 10 extra days.
even then, you would need huge discounts for it to start having a decent impact. Having a workstation early on is much better than having a discount desk, because you cant have duplicate cards, and by the time you have all 9 dishes. Since variety only picks main dishes and gets the sides through the courses. He'd have a -505% customers, assuming the debuff is additive.
Since its probably multiplicative, you'd have 0.0005% of customers. Rounding it up leaves you with 1 customer for practically the entire run, with certain days having an RNG boost of having X amount of additional customers, which also gets reduced to 1. So you'd have only 2 people to serve at most.
And even with all the franchise cards that give you 30% more customers. You'd still have a mere 0.1% of customers. So with all the cards, you only get 1-2 customers a day. You would earn a lot more money from people ordering twice at the very least, but you would have to get that card first to even start thinking about the discount desk.
Again, getting a workstation early on so you no longer have to spend 5 minutes getting the mashed potatoes is a lot more valuable than getting a discount desk that takes 9 days to save up for(gotta buy a research desk too). And once you have your workstation, do you really need to purchase anything else? You'd have at most 2 customers and the longest process is halved.
So if you do want the discount desk in a multi-franchise run, you basically try to rush a fancy table so you get 1.5x the amount of money per food item(from 20 coins per day on average to 25 coins per day on average), hope to keep the double dining card(to go from 25 coins on average to 40 coins per day on average) and have the exclusive theme(going to 45 coins per day on average). So you pretty much NEED the double dining card, together with a fancy table, to even start considering a discount desk in a run like this.

@@Predated2 A freezer is more valuable for mashed potatoes, since you literally only have to do it once and never again (and the pot stack resets the next day, so you get an extra pot)
While a workstation is more useful for everything else, none of them feel as grindy to me as mashed potatoes, but I understand that some people may feel differently on that.
Personally I'd freeze it and do no other prep; smash the booking desk into next week and react entirely to what the customer asks for - pretty much nothing else is going to take longer than their patience anyway.
But yeah, double dining is pretty much required to have any decent amount of money. It even has a secondary upgrade card increases the chances of double-orders and sides as well, so you can get up to 4x money from one customer just for the main meals, with potential for double starters and double deserts.
Of the mandatory franchise cards, if you don't get variety you can still get some pretty good second picks:
Careful accounting for +50% money
Coupons to reduce cost by 25%
Savings to start at 50g
(Maybe) Catalogue - shop has an extra blueprint each day, so you have slightly higher odds of seeing something useful
(Maybe) Mandatory tips. Worst case scenario it has given you 30g over the entire 15 day period
(Maybe) Bootstrapping, to get two random appliances. Probably just get duplicate ingredients though.
(Maybe) High Tech Suppliers, to skip buying a research desk entirely and use its money for upgraded shop items directly?
(Super-Maybe) Supplier Error - Shop costs randomised.
Worst case would probably be a choice between Discount (less money), and Expectation (less patience)

I don't think fresh patties actually count towards your continued menu variations. I'm pretty sure you got fresh patties on your last Golden corral run, and it didn't carry over.

You select which cards to carry over when you franchise. He hasn’t been including that part in the videos. He could select to carry it over but presumably is choosing to keep stuff like soup and sides instead
