You call that honor, he didn't let Blackhand make a single hit in a duel two contestants must fight and give each other at least a hit two duel duel two
@@shaneokeley825 you are kidding right? This duel wasn't fair in the beginning. Blackhand is 4 times bigger than Lothar so it's pretty obvious that the only way he could win is by outsmarting him. I'm not a warcraft fan, but I greatly enjoyed this move, the Mak'Gora especially. It shows that the orcs are Warriors not killers. He killed his challenger, fairly. Lothar earned the right to leave with the king's body.

Its a shame that they never continued the story with another movie. Things were starting to get awesome. The rise of Orgrim as Warchief, Thrall being raised as a gladiator, maybe the invasion of Stormwind in the first minutes and then Lordaeron. There is so much that they could show.
The universe is so expansive they very well could make a series out of it. I would totally watch that. I've played the games a bit, but I've read most of the lore behind them. Its real good stuff.
It never landed well with the fans because they didn't follow the story as it really is. They made up all kinds of stuff. I'm not a hardcore story fan myself, I just played WoW because I loved the game. That being said I didn't think the movie was that great either way and some of my friends that do know the storyline really wern't impressed by this move.
I think if they made a contract with Netflix or Amazon and made an series in the digital style as their latest game trailers telling the real story of WoW to the exact detail they would be able to really gain a huge audience... Too bad people in charge nowadays only think about how they can reach as many customers as possible even if that requires screwing up the story and its complexity.
@@Que-F1-23 They've retconned and tweakted the story so many times all ready. Who cares if they do it again?
@@Lappmogel @Lappmogel Ooh I'm not disputing that but maybe I wasn't really clear about what I ment.
I believe from a personal opinion that if they would stick very closely to the base storyline that every gamer knows and make more of a Lord of the rings type of movie it would do much better.
I believe it was too much CGI but not in a good way and the story was off.
Or the other route could be everything full CGI like their trailers and stick to that style.
In the end it is all personal preference and the box office has spoken because I just read that they announced late last year that they are working on a sequel.
Lothar vs Doomhammer would certainly be something to look forward to. And how victory would backfire spectacularly in Doomhammer's face.

That gryphon was like early WoW when you smacked the gryphon master.
I hate how you had to be like level 60 to get a mount that flies I don’t think I ever got one.
Flying mounts came with the first expansion BC, flying in Azeroth came with Cataclysm, the third.
It was always pure joy to see a bunch of high levels being shreddered by the gryphon master. As a low level you knew to leg it fast to the gryphon master.
Cata was 4th bro. WotLK was third
You knew you owned the other side's town when you could kill and camp the Gryphon Master. People would land see us hordies and there would be no Gryphon Master to get back out of dodge.
Leather armor, one handed weapon, 1 shot macro, finishing backstab. Yep, Lothar is definitely a rogue.
if that were the case, he wouldn't have used a shield on the lightning wall. he's trying to dual class, someone let blizzard know. he's trying to exploit the game.
hehe
@@demonpride1975 think like vanilla wow rogues were meant to use shields but it got removed
Blizzard needs to get rid of warriors Titan grip, so that arms feels unique, warrior can be dual swords or axes medium size, and then tank with a medium sword as well. Rogues third class could be a long sword like a rapier. Swift melee range duelist rogue.
Interesting, cause in dota a rogue's dagger that can turn any hero invisible was named after him - Lothar.

@@acemoz I'm not all that well versed with mythical creatures, but I'm guessing the Gryphon was smart. They lost the momentum and surprise that let them launch the attack.
I'm thinking it put 2 and 2 together and figured that if it tried to fight again, without that momentum and surprise while already surrounded and probably being held down by a dozen Orcs, it'd get butchered and so would it's rider.
Another thing to consider is that in the early forest fight scene the Dire Wolf didn't try to fight when it saw Lothar holding a sword to its rider's neck, so who's to say a Gryphon wouldn't act the same way?

explain
To be honest if I wasn't a fan of warcraft universe, I would saw this movie as nothing more than average. I think there was a lot of blunders that went into why this movie didn't succeed, one was the lack of promotion, I had to constantly look up its release date to remind myself when it came out. They released it in china before they did in america, this allowed critics to bash it before people had a chance to see it.
Despite Warcraft success in the gaming industry, it's obvious it's not very popular outside of china or it would had done way better domestically than it did regardless of critics. I doubt a sequel would come, if Blizzard return to the movie market, it be smarter for them to try overwatch instead. Not Warcraft.
A sequel is being made thanks to the chinese audience
That respect from orcs to Lothar was impressive !
Something that is also in real life. In boxing, karate or any kind of martial arts.
The victor is greeted with honor and respect. But honor and respect is given to those that show compassion, mercy, and forgiveness.
I really love how honorable the orks are in this compared to other series’s
They are brutal but also cunnin.
It seems fel did not corrupt them as much as their game counterpants:
"Doomhammer nodded but did not say anything, and after a moment the man turned and walked quickly away,
ducking back between the rocks and carefully working his way down the cliff beyond the valley. For a moment
Doomhammer considered going after him. A single quick blow would finish such a man, and he already had the
map. But that would be dishonorable. One of the things he hated about his own people, about what they had
become, was their lack of honor. Before, on Draenor, they had been a noble race. But Gul‘dan‘s treachery had
changed all that, making them little more than bloodthirsty savages. Doomhammer was determined to restore his
race‘s pride and purity, and that meant following a strict code of behavior. The man had treated with him in good
faith, and Doomhammer would not betray that. He would follow the path the man had marked, and if it proved
quick and the human troops did not block them he would honor his half of the agreement."
- Orgrim Doomhammer, "Tides of Darkness" novelization
Honorable? They are cowards that just love to kill. If they were honorable, they would have charged Gul'Dan when he failed to killed Durotan properly.
Orcs have a huge respect and honor into the fights[Which most of his culture is like that]
In Gothic 1 when you get Ulu-Mulu all Orcs respect you.

I guess this scene would conclude a bit different if it were done today: Summons Bird Mount. "You are in the wrong zone." Fumbles through dropdown list of mounts collected. @@LuckySmurf fair...its just weird they spent so much time making those giant models for orcs and then did nothing with it lol. Like hey are we gonnahave the humans get ragdolled by them? Not 90% of the time, are we gonna have the humans have a hard time killing them because of how big they are? No. Maybe have the humans be able to jump onto the orcs since the orcs can support that weight?! No. Hell. A horse kicked one like 20 feet, as if it was a normal person when theyre probably 2/3rds the horse's weight
Its like they forgot orcs were big
@@Mystravian Well that's a little unfair. While the major storylines tend to stink, them side quest lines tend to fair better.
Example: In BFA, the main storyline Horde - Alliance conflict is riddled with inconsistencies and plot holes but side story lines like the Order of Embers in Drustvar were well done.
As for the orc size...I've seen other people criticize that decision but I don't think of it as too big of a deal. Besides, if they wanted to (and if we had a sequel) they could always shrink them down and explain it as a side effect of the fel. It's not a pretty explanation but it solves that minor issue.

Orcs saluting might be one of the best scenes in the movie
They heiling King Ragnar
I’ve seen that distant look in a man. The enemy was dead before he took a step.
Gryphon was an absolute savage
It was so powerful that it was ridiculous.
Gryphons and their riders were going toe to toe with Horde dragonriders in Second War, so their strength wasn't really surprising, but still a very welcome sight.
Dude, watch the video again, the gryphon crushed over 20 fel empowered orc warriors in 40 seconds and was untouched and hadn't broken a sweat, in the middle of an orc army.
Considering this, I'd guess that the gryphon could of kept going until at least 50 orcs were dead if not 100.
Meanwhile, up until this point in the movie, those very same orcs were crushing any human soldier that came anywhere near them (except for Lothar and his son because plot armor).
So how many human soldiers do you think the gryphon could kill? See where I'm getting at?
Based on the movie's logic 5-10 gryphons could probably destroy all of Stormwind, that is if they don't use magic or ranged weapons. Still think it's not surprising?
Honestly, a gryphon on land, in the middle of a fel empowered orc army should have been ripped to pieces. At most the gryphon would kill 8 orcs before being torn apart.
There are 16 year olds in african tribes that can kill a lion with just a spear. And an army of hulking orc monsters with giant maces and axes the size of you and me can't kill one griffin?? That's basically just a giant lion?
Everyone calls it savage and badass, I'd say it's fucking stupid and kills the immersion. The funny thing is that I know that they only made it so overpowered because it's the end of the movie and everything has to be over the top, because it creates more of a climax. Movies usually do this. But since there is only *one gryphon,* it has to compensate for the climax by being so ridiculously powerful which is just shit writing.
I mean just look at 0:32, it's like a bird flinging a worm from the ground XD, you can't tell me that's not ridiculous. It just undermines the orcs so badly, who already undermine the humans. Ugh, such a disappointing movie.

RapsodiaVerde lothar and Varian were great warriors. Much respect
Well. When you think about it no one on Azeroth is really to blame for any of the wars. Everything can be blamed on either the Burning Legion or the Old Gods somehow when you really look at it from an unbiased perspective
RapsodiaVerde those warriors have honor but to be honest, I find the orcs way to big and to strong in the movie. They aren't as unstoppable in the books
Thats what an horde would say. You go into another world and first thing you do is wage war... And that was long after they drunk the blood so thats not an excuse.
In the books, normal orc warriors are more or less like humans. By the way... Anduin Lothar's death was a major retcon too, in WC2 he died because he wanted to negotiate for peace and got ambushed. Female orcs are closer to warcraft orcs than those big orcs.
I just have to add a comment that I love how he's doing all this barefoot. I mean me personally I can go barefoot with the best of them but I start stepping on hard gravel and rocks and you know you got a flinch when something sharks are jamming up in your foot this entire time he's been fighting along hard gravel and over bodies and he's been taking that foot pain like a beast
I still find it distracting how low energy all the live action characters are while all the CGI characters feel so alive.
I said it in post earlier but basically everyone's acting but Lothar and Garonas and maybe King Laine was all wooden and without any real effort. The alliance races like the Elves and dwarves all felt like second rate store bought Cosplay. It drew me out of the movie more than the orcs being CGI which were well done.
Ionsniper This movie would have worked better as all CGI.
It's hard to act against something you have to pretend is there. And animation as a whole can get away with being expressive. Not taking away from the human acting though, because they could've done a lot better.
CursedUsername Look at scenes where the live actors are acting against each other. Wooden.
I dunno...how would you act with a bunch of Orcs that could kill you fast are in hundreds. I'd be a little intimidated or scared. Lothar's good but honestly from his POV that would be scary.

Really enjoy this movie, I’m no hardcore Warcraft fan but still love it never the less. Wish they’d make a sequel but probably is never gonna happen.
Meanwhile in the Warhammer universe "Oi boyz, dat 'umie just krumped da boss! ZOG HIM, LADZ"
Wouldnt it be the opposite? wouldnt they fear what just killed their warboss considering just how more powerful the warbosses are over regular orks? They would clearly come back later and start a fight but wouldnt doubt there would be a morality issue for a hot minute.
In the Ciaphas Cain novels after the warboss died all of the larger orks started fighting over who would be the next warboss and Cain just slipped out in all the chaos.
The Orks don't fear anything smaller than themselves

@@projectover3223 hahahahaaha
I love how they made the fights far more realistic in this movie rather than overdoing it with insane amounts of plot armor. Once you get a hit off with a sword, you've practically won the fight and that's demonstrated very well here.
I actually understand what happened here, finally, after all these years. He knew Lothar had no chance without a weapon, so he gave him one. But a sword? Of all things? He wanted an honourable death in Mak'gora. He didn't want to serve under Gul'Dan, but knew if he refused, his death would be shameful. That was purely for honour.
Naah, I think it's just overthinking it
Also in the books that fight never happens. Its Orgrim the one who kills blackhand in a mak'gora.
Black hand totally threw, he just sat there waiting to get stabbed after he got nutted, and it makes sense too after gul’dan forced him to become something he hated.
Maybe Blackhand just wanted revenge for when Lothar mutilated his arm (also he killed his son, so this was a totally personal fight)
Still you don’t shoot someone in the dick butters
I will never understand why they didn't make the whole movie CGI.
Enigma X studies show photorealistic cgi movies dont tend to sell that much. Uncanny valley and what not. Too risky of a bet.
I heard it cost more to make the cgi films. Those BFA short films we watch I “hear” cost millions to make.
Dont quote me though lol. But I've been wanting them to just make a cgi TV series to damn bad.
@@OBOBProductions This movie looks like trash, one watch should've confirmed that for Blizzard. Their CGI is incredible, the Arthas cinematic looks amazing to this day. They should have stuck to what they are good at which is CGI.
@@barneyrubble4293 just search, they need years to make a 5 minute cgi clip..otherwise they would already done a movie

Ragnar was high for the whole movie, he didnt give a sh*t about it.
I don't blame him
Yet he was the best actor in the show. The rest of the human cast feels like they picked up random larpers from the street.
@@gromhellscream1624 ehhhhh, this movie had Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, and Clancy Brown. They didn't have much to work with script wise. That and trying too hard to make the armor, weapons, and Orcs accurate size and proportion wise to how they are in the game instead of normalizing for it a bit for live action was a mistake.
@@seandlax9 That's exactly one of the reasons why I couldn't get into the movie from the start. The orcs look just like their game counterparts in terms of design and proportions which is great, however when you put regular looking humans next to them it highlights just how odd and juxtapositioning it is. They should have either made the entire film animated and allowed the humans to have a similar aesthetic or they should have altered the orcs to look more grounded in reality (as grounded in reality as orcs can possibly be anyway)
I don’t care if it’s accurate or not, I still love this movie! Those cgi’s are really impressive, hope they make a sequel or maybe a series.
We need the fucking Part 2 of this movie.
Hard to say if we ever will because ever Warcraft neckbeard 'fans' were pissed that this wasn't a 1 for 1 game to movie adaptation. The neckbeards hated it because they didn't know the plot within the first 5 minutes.

Yeah I can't wait to see the events of Warcraft 3 unfold on television. Some good damn lore right there with Arthas.

Night Elves aren't in there yet. If you played the whole franchise, it would be more awesome regardless of the graphics. The story lines got some unexpected twists. I believe Ke'l Thuzad and Arthas wasn't mentioned here yet.

@@TheStraightestWhitest They could have been animated just like orcs were. It kinda broke up the textures being half half. Thats what he meant.
@@abhabh6896 Yeah I get that, but what I mean is that with the Orcs being photo realistic, the humans fit fine. You can criticise things about this movie, such as its lack of depth or character explanation because of its runtime, but the Orcs were incredibly well made. It didn't take me out of the movie.
I was just thinking, Chris Hemsworth would make a fantastic Arthas Menethil for a movie based on WarCraft III.
that guy who plays Jaime Lannister in game of thrones though.
Jaime Lannister is too old to play Arthas. Arthas was 24.
Don't forget Jaime looks like he loses 20 years between Season 1 and Season 5.
Nah Chris Hemsworth is too funny for such a dark role. Jaime Lannister could be but is a bit old for the role. Nothing some makeup can’t do though. I hope we at least get Arthas’ story in a movie because the future of warcraft movies isn’t looking bright.
Julian, 100% agree...chris Hemsworth has that kind of physicality but he is too funny. Robert pattinson could be but he has to buff up a lot.

@@benkalem Not when the company who owns the games and movies have full creative control and they did.
Hence why this is a non canon pos compared to the true lore.
@@SoulKiller7Eternal You missed the point. What works in a game won't necessarily translate well on film, because the way storytelling is paced and structured has to be different.
Storytelling in games has to work within the confines of game mechanics. Storytelling in film will generally have a lot less time to convey the message, and it has to often use shortcuts, that you wouldn't otherwise. This is much the same reason why you can't adapt a book straight to film.
It's fine if you didn't like the movie, but rather disingenuous to claim, that the process could work as simply as you are implying.
