    FPS really seems to tank if you have major traffic issues, especially when I hit the 80-100K population point. Learning how to utilize public transit, and planning for good road hierarchy has helped a lot.

    • @johnterpack3940
      @johnterpack3940 6 лет назад

      I started having trouble with mine at about 70k. I didn't even think about the traffic. I don't have any problem areas but I don't have a lot of public transport either. So maybe too many pedestrians and private vehicles are causing my problems. I'll work on some bus lines and see if that helps. I do have several metro lines running. But that obviously leaves people getting to and from the stations.

    • @bolland83
      @bolland83 6 лет назад

      Buses seem to only add to my problem with traffic. Planning for dedicated pedestrian and bike paths that connect major areas, along with a metro or monorail network seems to work pretty well without disrupting traffic. For remote areas or a city that's spread out, a train line works pretty well also. I suspect the vehicle count is what's causing the slow down for me, I typically end up with a ton of industrial traffic. I've been experimenting with boosting education to try and utilize more offices instead of industrial areas, not sure yet if it's going to work. I may still end up with a ton of delivery vehicles clogging up the roads.

    • @mephInc
      @mephInc 6 лет назад

      The game simulating a car or a person is same-same. The more going on, the harder it's going to be to process. As far as industrial/commercial traffic, it really helps to not have large blocks of either. Spread them out. It also helps cut down on the traffic if you limit the small (1x1) buildings from forming. Say you have a narrow strip of boxes to zone (1x?). Don't do it. You'll end up with a boatload of tiny buildings and each will generate just as much traffic as a 4x4.
      If (as you should) you separate your industry into small sections throughout your map, it'll also help to connect them with cargo train terminals. It'll cut back on trucks traveling all over the map and they'll instead just go to the nearest terminal and the goods will be shipped across the map.

    • @johnterpack3940
      @johnterpack3940 6 лет назад

      @@bolland83 try adding more cargo terminals if you haven't already. Industrial areas will send trains to each other and commercial areas since it is more efficient than trucks. It's fun to see trains pulling into a depot and see that they are from another depot nearby.

      @@PresCities They certainly have and it has come a long way since it's launch on console. They had season pass which I bought and it was well worth it. Season pass one had all the DLC's up to mass transit. They were launched in order and not all at once. There was also some mods and assets ( at least for Xbox one although PlayStation 4 may have it now.) There was also Art Deco content creator pack. Obviously were still well short of having all the capabilities of PC version but it is certainly enough to make great looking cities although it obviously still not were the quality of some of the awesome and realistic cities of PC. There is a big announcement for the console players on January 31 and I am very excited about it. Many are suspecting a season pass 2 and hopefully this gets us closer to having more of the options and assets that PC has. More of a beginner tip : Find a map you really like and let the landscape inspire you. Then use the unlock all tiles mod and remove all existing roads, railroads etc from your building area. I always make temporary roads connecting my city to the outside world untill i figure out what my highway systeem is going to be like. This will give you the freedom to start planning.
    Also, i dont plan everything at once. It will be too much like work and it will burn me out. So i usually start with something i look forward to developping, like a nice seafont wirh a big boulevard with a beach , an industral area with a nice big port or some relaxing suburb with a forest and some lakes.
    Usually when this is done my city sort of develops from these areas into a real city in a natural way. This will keep things interesting for me. So plan ahead, but not too much, because in the end its about having fun.

    Why do you have to make a seperate account for the asset editor, can you do this without making a new account and just do it on your main account?

    • @PresCities
      @PresCities  4 года назад +1

      Yes, but it would require removing all your assets first.

    • @ianpragnell174

    Some solid tips. I have problems with lagging and load time already and I don't have very many subscriptions at all. But my computer is closely related to a potato (Intel Q9650 and AMD RX460). I mainly have trouble when I start using Move It! now that my city is over 80,000. I'm assuming 8 GB of 1,333 MHz of DDR3 is struggling to keep up. Santa didn't bring my new computer this year so I'm hoping the IRS gives me back enough of my money I can upgrade.
    I must have missed something. I didn't see the justification for using a second Steam account. I can just as easily edit assets under my main account. I didn't see how editing them under another account and sharing them helps anything.

      Good luck with the PC upgrade- you will need more than 8gb of RAM for high asset counts. And the second steam account is so that the asset editor actually loads (loading it with all your assets on your main account will cause major lag)

      @@PresCities I'm planning a threadripper build with 32 gigs of RAM. Mainly because I am tired of background processes hurting performance. I now have a thread fetish.
      I guess I don't have enough assets to see any lag in the editor even with my potato computer.

    So one issue I have is organizing assets between projects. If you're working on different cities with different themes (say, east coast vs west coast?) do you just make multiple collections for each one? And can the collections be enabled or disabled en masse each time? I've gone through the "remove all workshop items" script a few times, but don't want to do that every time I switch to something else.

    • @PresCities
      @PresCities  6 лет назад +1

      Make different accounts and subscribe to different items per account.

    • @Belhade
      @Belhade 6 лет назад

      Oh so it's just a different account per project. Makes sense. And an extra account just for the editor?

    "it's best to work in a climate which is less forested"
    - Currently at 15 FPS in map editor. Oops >_>
    I picked up the asset editor trick a month or so ago and it's been fantastic, it didn't actually occur to me to try asymmetric fences though. Seems like a good way to shave off a few tris per household and make the yards look a little more real.
