San Minato was amazing. I get the same feels from this city too. I think basing cities on stories is one of the most enjoyable way this game can be played.
Out of all series, this is the most unique I've ever watched. Even if it's a virtual city, the city feels like it has a rich history and diverse in culture
I think it would be really cool if the main commercial street in Portola extended super far back ( with nothing on it) into the hills and eventually became the gate to the nature preserve or even an overlook station atop a hill. Central Avenue in Phoenix kind of does the same thing with South Mountain Park
The estimated 15,000 Chinese living in San Francisco's Chinatown lost nearly everything in the 1906 earthquake and fire. Following the disaster, most Chinese left for Oakland and only about 400 remained in the city. The rest that survived, migrated to Cabrillo And made the Chinatown you see today
One thing that i think would be really cool would be like some obscure ethnic group that moved to Cabrillo and made a district, one example could be like the basque block in boise or little Havana in Miami.
When I watch cities skylines videos I usually skip through them because most things in them are not that interesting. Pres videos are much more interesting and are relaxing to watch and listen to, so I watch them fully.
Dear Pres about two years ago I was playing city skylines and wanted to do a San Fransisco like city but there were no SF Victorian style assets and in an attempt to make my own I gave up and built SF buildings in Planet coaster and made a mini park on on of the many harbor piers. THIS CITY of yours is the city I imagined in my dreams.... and now I hate you for stealing my dreams man...how could you! ;) I am so glad to see you do this series and I am glad to see that you are still at it. Much love and support
I agree with clus retaining walls. They are amazing, I subbed to them the day they came out but never used until yesterday for my train line. I even shared some screenshots on your server actually
The idea of a cable car museum is a great idea or more broadly a sort of historic small rail yard or roundhouse that's now a transit museum would be cool to see built
Maybe for your Chinatown a small Buddist temple or monastery? It's the last structure standing after the highway expansion that took over most of the area.
You Inspired me to start my own approach at a historic build for a city! I especially love when you mention politic history, civilian demands, class segregation and more. I am happy to have learn this perspective from you to build some more awesome cities :) Would love to see you talk more on ways of creating cool pedestrian accessible designs/history!
I certainly feel that way with this series pres, i genuinely want to visit this city and i think thats what youre trying to say with what u strive for in this city
Hey pres I love your work and how you build cities 👍 I think you also should build some abandoned mines (now tourist trap ) near Mt oso mountain range like gold , iron etc. With very small old West Town. That will add a new character to the city, I have story for it , in early 30s cabrillo was just a small town but it was rich in resources of (magnetite) gold etc. This news spread and rich people started mining it and city become popular and rich. After some time the government take control over the mine during the WW2 and extracted all the iron ore above the levels from it and since the mine are abandoned. During late 1950s , few real estate developers bought the lands and converted into tourist attractions and these mine becomes the part of history of cabrillo
Add a bike museum for that sense of place, and keep going with that bike infrastructure;) good vid as always pres Edit- you could brand it as “the bike capital of cities skylines” and make it one of the defining themes of the city
Chinatown was awesome, so unique! I also liked those neon signs, I wish I knew about them while building my Chinatown. Some overhang lanterns would look even more amazing, and also some gates would be great too since they are nearly in every Chinatown. It's a bummer that there isn't a good Chinatown gate that fits the road size though. I had to PO my own.
You should add above ground powerlines in these kinds of suburban neighbourhoods. One thing I remember about San Francisco from when I've visited is that views from the hills sometimes end up obscured by them.
I feel like you can have a cable car history for Cabrillo, but you would still have to decide if the system survives. It could be like Portland or Seattle where they have a known cable car history that either got converted to electric streetcars or were abandoned in the 40's. Additionally you could (if you have the car lines be abandoned) have a restoration effort for cable car service like this city in New Zealand. I can't for the life of me remember the city, but I know there is a nonprofit trying to restore cable car service.
You should put an amusement park, some schools, a church, i don't know If you have a city hall, a cinema, houses with swimming pools, i don't know If you have a police department, a firehouse, an hospital etc.
Pres. I miss the videos, hopefully you will return soon. I want Cabrillo to come back. I keep rewatching every series until the day you return to make more videos. Please come back. We miss your content
Amazing video as always! I loved the cinematics and street level shots! I have been watching your videos for past 2 years and I love your content I have binge watched Calevera Beach, Aramore, New Windsor. I just love all of your content I think you are the best cities skylines youtuber. I watch all all of your videos till the end and also leave a like all of your videos. It will be nice if you do a video of Cabrillo at ep10 or something where you go in person and show all the places of the city. I think it will be intersting to see the city in that perspective!
I think both cable cars and electric streetcars could have been used in Cabrillo but they dismanteled their cable car system when electric streetcars proved cheaper to operate and could fit more people in a vehicle. Also the streetcar system could have survived the 50's but with only one or two lines which have been integrated into the light rail.
i just had an idea that i haven't seen anyone do but you might like it? most city "entrances" off the highway see alot of car traffic. this results in a lot of gas stations mixed with fast food/ drive thru places being built immediately off the ramps in most cities. zoning laws restrict truck traffic and the placement of truck stops. generally they are the first or last highway exit of a city and away from everything (until the city grows) or the ramp nearest an industrial area. both truck stops and gas stations take alot of space and can be unique and cool to see in the city. they can also be more bland for middle class areas or rundown in poorer neighborhoods. idk just an idea.
It could very pretty that the top of the hills where you built this new district could becoming a park Otherwise, this is a great episode! (support from France :) )
i love what you’ve done w/ chinatown but I think what could be cool is that you could add some market stands/lanterns to detail it up a little, it just seems a lil plain rn and for such a detailed city Cabrillo is it should’nt go untouched.
Maybe, but once again I’m trying to expand the city very quickly compared to my previous cities. Might go back and re-detail some areas in the future though.
I got a few suggestions; making a some schools right next the urban park and richer townhouses, incorporating more dingbats as you enter neighborhoods that are less wealthy, using parks and large department stores as the points that separate the wealthier residential areas with the more working class areas, keep up the good work
As you talk about creating a sense of place reminds me of the various eastern European enclaves where I grew up. Perhaps you could create a mini-neighborhood centered around a Ukrainian church?
Yeah, I'm trying to figure out where to build it. I want to demonstrate the "Magical Urbanism" Mike Davis talks about in California barrios, probably basing it on the Fruitvale. Any other ideas?
@@PresCities I have to see all the serie again, I don't understand very well English but I enjoy every episode in my mode haha, great job and keep it going
I was going to ask why you used smooth concrete for those retaining walls instead of waterproofing panels for engineered earth but then I realized PO would probably mess up the patterns. (comment mostly for the alg*rithm, great work tho!!)
I don't understand the concept of Chinatowns, isn't it a sort of segregation ? It's not just a style and an identity for the neighbourhood, it's also people, that have to be parked only between each others.
Most chinatowns nowadays are more for tourists, also many chinese people living in the usa or other countries may feel quite seperated from their culture. So they go there to by chinese foods or to celebrate Chinese traditions with other Chinese people. All this doesn't mean that other people can't join in though.
I honestly love the neon signs in Chinatown, really gives it a different vibe from San Fran's Chinatown.
Have never seen my assets being used so excessively haha. I'm glad you like them!
Two episodes in a row! More to come.
@@PresCities You should build a baseball stadium similar to Oracle Park in San Francisco. For this I recommend the new "PNC Park" asset
@@PresCities maybe an NFL stadium too

Yeah and maybe an art deco district
Hm... maybe some Brazilians?
I love how you placed the chinese signage on the buildings such a simple thing that adds so much flavor.
For a neighbourhood in cabrillo on top of a hill like this one, I think it should be called Alta, for tall as it is in the hills.
i like this idea , but it should be a different style than portola. maybe mcmansions.
@@rstarks1125 yeah, every neighbourhood is different
You're killing it with this series, the culture and history improves the experience of the gameplay so much
When I watch cities skylines videos I usually skip through them because most things in them are not that interesting. Pres videos are much more interesting and are relaxing to watch and listen to, so I watch them fully.

You have a talent for building selection and placement that feels authentic. The only thing I would add to the repertoire is more gas stations

You should put some pennant banners that go across the road in china town, it’ll make chinatown more distinct

Add homeless tents and fast food chains for more realism
Make the Full House theme.
