As a Med student, I always make sure to stop studying at 10 pm. No matter how much I studied. If I studied less than desired, then it's my fault for not studying early. I would then learn my lesson and study earlier, helping me become more disciplined. I also make sure to at least just watch and understand the lectures rather than read and memorize if I don't have any energy to study. Small progress is still progress.
same here! i try not to study past 9pm since i start to get so sleepy. i also just re-read the same material and its counterproductive. im not absorping the info i need. this can be tricky if you have night classes tho. i also take breaks when i study.
my university's summa cum laudes have gigantic eyebags but man im only a freshman and i already have similar eyebags and im not even a top student wtaf
I have never stayed up all night to study. The thing is, my mother wouldn't let me stay up because she always repeated to me that sleeping helps to accommodate things, just like you explained. And I can completely agree because there were times when I didn't fully understand one topic but I didn't care, just went to sleep. In the morning, it was amazing how I understood everything and all the topics were much clearer. Sleeping is really really important and your explanation says it all.
This is literally how I'm so good at absorbing concepts. I just don't care about the explanation if it seems difficult, and I come back to it later and then it all seems clear. Literally 8x faster than my peers because of this (and maybe some actual genetic superiority, but can't measure so who knows)
This was actually a key part of my imposter syndrome for so many years. Doing better in class than my friends who studied deep into the night made me feel like a fraud, so thanks for making this video!
I know you wrote this months ago but I’m just so happy I found someone who feels the same as me! I have good grades while not stressing out too much while everyone around me seems to have given up on a social life while receiving worse grades than me … and I felt like I was doing something wrong 😅
I'm a top student too but never study so much like my friends who have tutions for every subject and also attend online courses. But they struggle to answer basic questions in class (practical qsn). I open geography, history, language etc theoretical subjects only the night before exams(I sleep for 3-4 hrs on exam days). And throughout the year I work on the base of every subject which will stay in my brain. That's why it's hard for me to memorise theoretical informations. And everyone thinks I study like a machine everyday. If I did that, I swear I could score 100% in every subject, but I hate studying unnecessary details.
During my first two years of college I woke up at 5:30 am everyday and usually got 7-8 hours a night. I cannot explain to you how Fantastic I felt. Studied hard and hit the gym. Went from a C/B student to a A student.
@@someone-yj2im good question. I just finished third year fully online and the first half I was still waking up at 6:30 but then second half I was studying for the Mcat plus fasting for Ramadan(waking up at 4 to eat food before sunrise but then sleeping in after to avoid fatigue from not eating all day). Now senior year is starting and I’m ready to get a good s heckle going.
I got top scores consistently when studying and working right after waking up. Never studied at night during college. Always slept early the few nights before major assignment deadlines/tests. Felt like I was going through college on easy mode.
So you're actually saying his video is kinda wrong? Imo it makes sense to wake up early as long as you're productive, but that implies SLEEPING properly, and earlier, obviously.
@@planetary-rendez-vous i dont think so. From what i get, as long as we sleep enough time to complete the 3 cycle, we are good. Or am i missing something? He also said that if we pull allnighther, we are gonna miss the part when our brain stores the data to more permanent places. Seems like we need to start to sleep on a specific time?
@@planetary-rendez-vous well he also doesn’t say he studied after waking up EARLY. Just that he did after waking up, presumably from a decent night’s sleep. Personally since i started letting my body wake up on its own i have felt much better throughout the day
@@planetary-rendez-vous I think what he means by early is after 7pm-ish? The time I suppose he wakes up and then study. And the video is saying that waking up too early would be around 4am-ish
I think I am naturally just a night owl. My brain and productivity just seems to kick in later in the evening. So I like studying/working late then sleeping in. It’s so annoying for people like us though because majority of the world including my boss want me to be a morning person 😭. Then I don’t end up getting much sleep.
its okay, youre not alone, i just cant do that, i dont have the motivation to do that in daylight, ppl said thats because i am tired, well this is my body, i know my body, and i am not tired :) i just dont want to, i am not willing to LOL
I was almost always a top student during high school and university. Getting the highest mark was a normal thing but I never compromised my sleep, not even for exams. I don't remember studying past 12 or waking up before 6 to study. I'd say study less focus more.
Same I found it too stressful whereas I felt I was forgetting topics. Considering that I went to a school that was also a boarding school. Others would wake wake up at like 4am and go study. I valued sleep too much to only get 5 hours sleep 😭😭😭.
But I don't have time to sleep. If I want to pass my classes, I need to complete my assignments. If I want to complete my assignments, I have to stay up every nught until they're done. Like how do I get sleep but also complete assignments
@@NegativeAccelerate what kind of assigments do you have that you have to stay up every night? Tbh it may be poor time management of your side. Unless your school is overkill, if you are disciplined and sit on them early enough, you should be able to complete them.
During my Master's year, I went to sleep immediately after getting stuck in my assignments. Then I strangely started to get answers to finish my assignments through dreams. Ever since that, I often slept with sticky notes and a pen under my pillow to write down the new ideas right after getting them on my dreams
My study strategy is to sleep early and wake up at 5:00-6:00 am, then study till 10:00 am. Our adrenal glands starts to release at 4 am and peak at 10 am.. That’s why I can study less and learn more between those hours.. And when I learnt the diurnal variation of cortisol rhythm in 2nd year medical school, I was like now I knew the reason haha. After 10 am tho, I took a 30 min nap.. and never study again unless there’s like an exam coming up.. Still, I always go to bed around 8 pm tho.. I felt like my brain starts to resist learning after 6 pm and cannot handle anything after 8 pm.... The icing on the cake of studying in the morning especially on an exam day is that active recalling works better in the morning due to the long-term potentiation and memory consolidation that your brain is exposed to during Step 1 of NREM and REM respectively. Not to mention your anxiety level and muscle tone is reduced too.. PS: I was the top student both in first and second year of med school.. And also wishing I could be one in my third year too..
Woah for me its the total opposite. I'm in med school too. I've been the 2nd topper in my batch of 150 students in the first and second year university exams and the topper in 3rd year university exams, but I always prefer late night study. Mind you,it ruins my health for sure and I've tried many times to change my schedule but it simply doesn't work for me. My entire learning and revision process speeds up after dinner at night from 10 pm onwards till 4-5am in the morning. I can get things done faster and more efficiently. During exam time I study till 4 - 5:30/6 maximum in the morning sleep for 3-4 hours max and then just after getting up directly go give the exam. I never leave any topic for revision in the morning because from my experience I know I'll completely miss that part and from all the stress and strain of exams I get really nauseous after waking up and can't revise much in that terrible state. I've tried in normal days to go to bed early and wake up early, but first of all its a herculean task to wake me up early. I get terrible headaches, my brain seems clogged and fuzzy and I can't utilise my time. In fact what I would require half an hour to study at night before sleep, I will take more than 2 hours in early morning studies. So although I know it's taking a toll on my health, I just can't change my habit because that will mean considerably sacrificing my results. But of course above everything else, health is the most important.
I was a top student. Had more to do with me staying up till 2-3am, and waking up at 11-12pm. It's easier to study in the night time when it's quiet and very little to distract you imo
What? And what time did your classes started? Im a top student but I basically NEED to study at the afternoon, because here the classes starts 7:15 and to shower, havew breaksfast, get in the school, etc I need to wake up 5:30-6:00.
@@otizev Oh tbh most of my studying happened whenever it was a holiday, weekends and we'd also have 2-3 weeks study leave before exams in the UK. Aside from that I'd just study after school and sleep around 10.30pm and wake around 7.30
This video made the most sense to me out of all other videos i ever watched about sleep ... you talked about everything and connected all the dots .. i used to stay up late at night but from now on im gonna make a sleep routine
I don't comment on videos very often but you guys are AMAZING! I am constantly trying to become more productive and efficient, oftentimes forgetting my health along the way. Thank you for providing the facts and empirical evidence as well as the emotional explanation that is almost always relatable. Keep up the great work.
Well that’s false. Instead of late night cramming when my brain doesn’t think right I prefer going to bed early (with the help of melatonin) and waking up at 5-6 am. That way I can get a good amount of caffeine and be my most productive and creative (my brain is on its peak capacity in the morning before 12:00 pm)
@@ee214verilogtutorial2 I was just about to take a nap and happened to see this, now I'm gonna wait till night!!!! Thanks man!!!!I much needed that advice.
As someone who LOVES sleeping I was never able to wake up early, no matter how unprepared I am or how important the test that same morning is And guess what ? I was a top student, always first in my class, always getting the best grades My secret ? Working smart 1) Don’t leave things till the day before the exam, try to get as much preparation as possible weeks or months earlier (preparing notes, doing exercices, understanding the difficult notions) 2) leave the memorizing part to the last days. I always memorize stuff the night before the exam just before going to sleep and I wake up remembering everything by heart (don’t know how to explain it, maybe sleeping helps the brain fix all the readings you did earlier or sth) 3) Do past exams : you’d be surprised to learn how similar the questions are. If you don’t have them just ask : your teacher, older students, etc. This will help you know how to prepare and what you’ll need so that you can target exactly what you need Hope this helps someone
@@Sliferagon both, I was very good in high school and college. Doesn’t necessarily mean I was the smartest person in class, but I just knew what to do to get the grades, which in return will get you the best college if you’re in high school or an asset to put on your resume for job applications if you’re in college
I think you can still get the same productivity by sleeping and waking up earlier. I have been sleeping for 6 hours about from 10pm to 4am and i study at 4am because it is more quiet and condusive for learning. I have consistent A's ever since high school
Agreed. Currently doing a PhD, and I've just been allowing myself to sleep in a bit lately. I'm tired of forcing myself to wake up early and then have a horribly unproductive day. I'd rather get to the office/lab an hour or two late and have good quality work, and then stay a little later. You don't need to wake up at 5am to be successful, find what works for you.
I've literally noticed this effect. Sometimes at night when I'm actively recalling before bed, I not ie the stuff I revised during that day literally feels clearer and easier to retrieve as soon as I wake up. It's really strange when you notice it but so cool and important
Lately, I wake up around 5:00 or 5:30 am and have a 3 hour study session until it's time for breakfast and bath. After this I have another 3 hour session until it's time for lunch followed by another 3 hour session. This way I end up doing a load of work before it's even 4:00 pm. I can do a bit of revision after this, but the rest of the day is just for relaxing and doing whatever I want. It has been pretty productive for the past few weeks and I am averaging some 9 hours daily. The key is to go to sleep early and reward yourself in small ways after a good day of work.
@@sxrge7349 I was prepping for a competitive exam few months ago in my country. If it were not for those hours I wouldn't have qualified the exam within a top 200 rank, buddy. Also, I was a student from those top university you talk of. The thing is those 4 or 5 hours you say account for the time you put in after your lectures or lab work is over. So yeah, at the end of the day we do end up putting about 8 to 9 hours each day. The only difference is I continued to do the same after graduation for my entrance.
I found it strange how my colleagues seemed to be struggling while I was doing fine in college/uni (getting high grades, even competing for the top). I never slept late nor wake up early to study. I was also daytrading (trying to atleast) stocks and cryptocurrency too which took a big part of my free time. I never forgot to workout and/or train boxing almost everyday. I also always ate healthy. Then I realized that most of my colleagues spent most of their free time on social media. That explained a lot of things. My point is: If you're struggling, go over how you manage your time and see if you're doing something wrong. Maybe you're spending too much time on something that doesn't yield a lot of useful results for you. Make use of your time properly. But don't forget to have fun. My recommendation: Find a useful hobby that you love. Do you enjoy editing videos/films? Do you like writing stories? Do you want to learn how to speak another language?
i kinda agree with this. A lot of the time, its time management that usually bring people down in doing their work but tbh it also depends on their course load and subjects they took on that particularly term. My key thing is to NEVER cram and NEVER overload in a term. In addition, separate your personal and academic life. My advice is to have a timer like if 9pm or 10 pm hits don't do any school work or think of anything that has something to do with school.
Misleading title, someone’s perception of what is ‘early’ may very between different people. Of course, if you wake up at 3:30-4:30am you can miss a great deal of sleep, but 5:30-6:30? 8+ hours is definitely still possible, and students will be able to tackle more complex work and eat the ‘frog’ in the morning. In high school I’ve never met or have known of a top student who didn’t wake up before 7am (school starts at 8:50 where I am from). Most who had developed good habits with study, fitness and social connections were often disciplined enough to wake up at 6:30am (which most would consider early). Those who would wake up at 8-8:20am later, were often the most disorganised, wrecked sleep schedule (2-3am) and often got lower scores on assesments and SACs. In my opinion their is a lot of value to wake up ‘early’ in the morning.
Also I know you talked about ‘sleeping late’ and waking up early on the video, but this made me very confused when I first saw the title a few months ago.
I have a correction to make: if you go to sleep late you're not missing out on the first cycles but on the last ones. Going to sleep late is the same as waking up early. You always start with the first cycles, it all depends on when you wake up. Also it depends from person to person, there are people who need a lot of sleep, others need way less, the brain can process all the needed things in as little as 1 or 2 cycles a night and the extra sleep is mostly for the actual body to rest, but that massively depends on the situation, sometimes even day by day for the same person. To be honest these are all kind of myths, the actual only way to sleep better is with trial and error. For example I sleep better if I go to sleep very late in the night, bright lights don't make any difference but I need to sleep a lot of time. Any change and I feel terrible when I wake up, even if I sleep more time than needed.
hot temperature forces you to open the windows which bring in noise from outside, waking you up at night, so you close the windows, then the heat of having no cool air in hot temperatuires wakes you up. It's a loop .-.
i started sleeping better this school year for literally the first time ever cus our final school year is hell :) though i’ve only been back for a week, i’ve already noticed a massive change in my motivation and productivity
I've noticed the same about me too. I sleep so well that I have woken up 30 mins before my alarm this whole week. I even noticed I have more motivation to do my course work and I do it well
It's the opposite for me, I think I honestly did better online because I was a lot less stressed out each night and I have so much anxiety at school between making it to classes in time and talking to classmates that seem to have they're entire life planned out while I'm 17 and still have never had a job and can't drive. I feel so out of place and it's so bad to the point where I dread the thought of going back to school each day.I know it's selfish but I kind of hope we go back online.
@@awkwardrainbowpotato5620 that’s a valid thought and it’s not selfish cus i think it’s obvious you’re not wishing for more sick people. SCHOOL ANXIETY SUCKS ASS. i’m 17 too and also have never had a job, can’t drive either (it’s not legal anyway at 17 but you can take a theory test and start lessons). ik it can feel borderline impossible not to compare yourself to your peers (everyone at my school is so smart and it’s v intimidating) but just know everyone gets shit done at their own pace and we’re still veryyy young so we have time
You smile a lot when you talk, giving me the feeling that your easygoing and reliable. I really like your voice because it’s so soothing. Your words are detailed, but clear enough for me to understand. Keep up the good work!
Wow. Thank you for this. I love learning WHY doing stuff is important, it helps me to remember to do the thing when I think about the goal i'm aiming for. I'm definitely not the best sleeper but I will do my best going forward to rectify that. Thank you so much.
Getting top scores in my classes right now, and I have got to say that I have followed 1 rule - always do the homework. Lots of times, homework can help you learn more and give you a margin in your total grade. For example, you can do well in homework and do average (like a B), and you can still get an A in the class. It is something that I see my classmates mess up constantly.
yup, i did very little studying in highschool and had all A's with 1 B. I always did all of my homework and I was very attentive and active during the actual classes. as long as you do that, you don't need to study that much in highschool, outside of some memorizing and the such for bigger tests. I'm sure AP classes would require some extra studying outside of homework tho.
this is actually very true, Cramming up things the day before exam does not work at all after I have truly experienced it, thank you a lot for the video.
As one of the top students, I prefer studying at night rather than studying at day or early in the morning, My brain would still be not functioning well at that early time
Same,i’ve been a top student my whole life and i’ve always, *always* been more productive at night.i get shit done so much faster and tend to focus better overall.
i highly recommend everyone to get a lamp in their room and set the color temp to something warm. this way you can have your main ceiling lights off at night but still be able to see as the lamp gives off a dim, warm, soft glow which actually makes me feel even more sleepy.
This hippocampus analogy is perfect. I've always been a top student trying to revise at different times every day but no matter when I studied whether it was waking up at 6am to study or studying at 10 or 11 there was no difference. In the end, maintaining a constant sleep schedule and studying less while prioritising to remember my studying and forgetting less important things worked best. You need to be able to have control of what you are thinking about during your sleep by zoning out things such as RUclips videos before sleep. I don't mean that you can't listen to them if you want to before sleeping but treat it like background noise not as a point of focus.
Honestly you’re right, you got to take your sleep more seriously in order to do more well in school. When I was studying for my AP test, I woke up at 6 AM and studied to around 9 PM 😭 this was during online school ofc, which really helped me out. 🤔 it’s better to study during the day so u can sleep more and feel more energized
You just don’t need to ever work for that period of time tho. That’s 15 hours of studying. There’s no possible way you can be efficient during that timeframe. Much better to do 5 hours of intense studying and then let yourself relax. Otherwise there’s no time for your brain to compile what it’s learnt
When I didn't have clinical depression, I was really good at being on top of all my classes. I would spread the studying for a given exam across 3-5 days before the exam so I would only have to review a small chunk each day. It was so relaxing and low stress.
@@hugono3938 Thanks! Unfortunately I’m still struggling a lot but I’m hopeful. Seems like I went undiagnosed with ADHD my entire life. I started ADHD medication and it’s helping a lot.
I'm preparing for medical college entrance exam along with my high school Currently it's my 2nd year high school and i hardly get 3 to 4 hour's to sleep tomorrow I have an physics exam (mid term) after studing all day my brain just give up. But I still have 3 lectures left I was going to open 2nd lecture when I saw this video. No matter how hard I try to take out time but I just don't have that much time . (I wish their were 28 hour's instead of 24) Thank you for telling me how important the sleep is.
For me, I sleep around 10:00 pm and wake up at around 3-4 am (my class starts at 7:30 am). My memorization is always at its peak whenever I just woke up compared to sleeping late. (I'm the top student in my class)
@@cami3402 no. It's like my brain is fired up. I'm usually good with just a few hours of sleep. I would feel sleepy around 2-4 pm. By that time, my exams would have been finished so I can already rest.
Same here! I have classes starting at 7.00am I wake up at 3.00 am and study till 6.00am then I would be feeling a little drowsy so I do workout and take shower to chase away drowsiness
Great video! Though it’s honestly frustrating to see my school system not out more emphasis on sleep and puts too much work on students so that they are forced to either stay up or not complete the assignment-either way, not properly learning the material and performing poorly.
I feel like we will never get the truth behind sleeping and its relationship with productivity All i understood throughout different sources of knowledge is that each individual has their own productivity time, and happiness and a healthy mind play a HUGE role in your productivity, if you make the choice (subconsciously or not) to close the doors of your mind, you won't go that far
Recently, I've been observing my sleeping pattern and I found out I fall asleep pretty fast when I'm in the living room. I just feel sleepy every time I go there, but when I go in the bedroom, I'm wide awake and find it hard to fall asleep at night. The difference in both the living room and bedroom is that my bedroom has poor ventilation while the living room has a window and it's usually breezy there when it's evening.
Something I don't quite understand is how you miss out on deep sleep when you go to sleep late, because wouldn't you then just miss out light sleep (if you have to wake up at a certain time that is)?
Apparently your sleep cycles depend on your circadian clock which is tied to light exposure, not necessarily when you choose to go to sleep. So sleeping late starts you off on different cycles compared to sleeping early
My younger brother used to wake up 1 hour before school and do all his home work he also had time in the bus going and coming home and at recess... ive never seen him study during the day and hes got straight As
I used to do this. I'd primarily use class time just to pay attention and take notes. Then I'd go home, relax with a movie, and go to sleep. The next morning I'd get up (early, but well-rested) and on the way to school, before class started, and during lunch time, I'd cram in all my homework that was due THAT DAY. 😅 But actually, I was using that homework as active recall without realising it! So I ended up not with straight-A's (I didn't expect A's all the time as I _never_ studied) but I only ever failed ONCE in my entire time in high school. That said, now that I'm in college, I have NO CLUE how to study! So skipping the study sessions comes with pros and cons! 😂
I already know about this stuff, first day of university my lecturer told us about the importance of sleep, and the science behind it. Honestly this is why I love I got into health science. Can’t wait to get into medical school!
For sleeping though, what I noticed for me that works is sleep 10pm-4am read/study 5am-9am and have a break 4pm-6pm window of learning/review I do agree that having a good sleep is helpful, especially if your exercising too. 😊
My freshman year of high school I was really motivated, I could do things easily, I was able to remember and process the information I was being told. I ended up getting a 99 on my math final and I maintained a 96 average for the whole year. I really struggle in the last half of the year because I would stay up really late and wake up early. I have had no idea about what could possibly be wrong with me, if it was burn out, but I think it's because I haven't been getting enough sleep. When I think about it, I would wake up, get ready, go to school, come home, do my homework immeadielty, have some free time for about 2 hours and then I'd go to bed at 9:30 or so. I have no idea how freshman me was able to do that, but I'm so so happy this video was recommended to me. I'm taking a few advanced courses for sophomore year (just for fun haha), and I think that getting into a nice sleep schedule would really benefit me. I'm totally going to save this video, I wasn't expecting to learn so much about my own body
I study my calculus during night and learning facts at night, I don't know but I always sleep at 12 am or even worse than that because before I sleep I open my phone and surf on Google to find new things then I wake up at 6/7 then sleep in the afternoon. So yeah, I'm a great night owl but planning to change my way of living for the sake of my brain.
I'm actually super surprised that this is not common knowledge. We learn while we sleep. Why do people think children sleep so much? Because they process all the things they have learned in the waking ours. With adults it's the same. I used to calculate the hours of sleep so my alarm would go off when I'm in a phase of light sleep. This way I felt much more energetic when I woke. Now I have my set time I go to bed and I wake up before my alarm. Everyone has a different time window where they work best. Some work good at night others in the morning, midday or afternoon. In these windows they are most productive. Unfortunately most jobs don't support that. I hope that one day jobs can be as flexible so every person can work in their time when they are most productive. Sleep is so valuable! Use it, it's a Superpower! :D
i feel like sleep is the most mysterious thing to me. It works differently for all of us. Some days i wake up super energetic while getting less hours, and then i sleep more the next night and feel really sluggish. I use to be able to wake up about 10 min before my alarm clock went off and i felt super human. They'll be somedays where ill sleep for a decent time and wake up feeling like i got 10 min of sleep. Theyll be times where Ill dream and dream and dream during my sleep and wake up tired asf thinking I was up the whole time but in reality i was just dreaming. Happening to me once, I was so convinced that my dreams were real bc I felt like I got tired just from dreaming
@@WiSHNUKEs Sounds interesting :) Have you found any patterns in when you feel super energetic or really tired after waking up even though you got the same amount of sleep? Do you go to sleep around the same time at night? Did you eat or drink anything an an hour before you went to bed? Have you watched a movie or read a book? Had an amazing conversation or an argument? All these things have an affect on our sleep and therefore also on the way we feel after waking up. A while ago I read a book about lucid dreaming which was amazing! Wishing you a wonderful Sunday and a good start into the new week :)
Getting good sleep along with an hour workout is also good for you too. It might seem like a chore at first but trust me you will feel much better in the long run. Taking even 30 mins of your take workout will help you feel refreshed.
Definitely, I agree with the idea of a good night's sleep. I think we talk a lot about good diet and exercise but need more awareness about the importance of sleep.
Agreed! A lot of people don't know that you learn (and build connections between Neurons) and strengthen what you've learned when you sleep. Not only that but it also detoxifies (removes harmful buildup of protein) the brain
Well I always studied late at night, and in my last high school year I studied almost always from 10 pm to 3 am. I opened my books around 6 pm, but I wasn't able to start that "early". Btw I graduated with a score of 100/100 from liceo classico (a kind of italian high school considered to be between the hardest, if not the hardest, were we study, among other subjects, mainly Ancient Greek and Latin). So, at the end of the day I don't think is about how much you sleep or at what time you go to bed, but is about knowing yourself and studying when you feel more productive
Ok, but if you sleep early then waking up early shouldn’t be an issue right? It’s not that it’s bad to study in the morning but more so about missing out on rem sleep correct? Sleep is important either way!!!
I’m in my senior year of high school and at the end of my junior year I decided to never study or do homework past 10:00 since I wake up at 6:20 for school. I’ve been so much more rested and alert at school and I’ve had a way better mood to the point that people have pointed it out to me. I get a little behind on work sometimes, but I don’t regret it all since I’ve been so much happier and energetic.
As for me, I usually oversleep and impossible to wake me that early so you had to pull me or give me ride on you. So no problem with my sleep, except fact I sleep bit too much.
Totally unrelated to sleep but feeling like sharing it, my thing is reading my revision sheets just before tests (that implies working all the year for exams yes), that way when the test starts I read the subject quickly and then write everything I remember in the margin or a seperate sheet and use it later. Finding a subject that matters to you is also important. Sleep well everyone!
I used to pretty much memorize notes word for word easily and got a 100 on every test when I slept at 5-6pm and woke up around 5:30 AM. I also ate a really healthy diet. Little did I know that I was sleeping so early due to my anemia, but now that I eat mainly junk food and sleep normal hours I see a HUGE difference. I can barely remember what I did the day before let alone memorize things word for word. At this rate I might be getting Alzheimer's when I get older. Hopefully I can revert to my old habits
I'm my class topper and I wake up at 5 in the morning because many were recommending that morning is the most productive part of the day and so I tried studying but I feel so sleepy so I would study for 30 mins then take a power nap.So it could be effective if you can take power naps maybe.
I been trying to keep myself motivated to learn a second language, there's myths around language learning and misunderstandings but definitely one should keep a great sleep schedule and meditate to ensure your mind keeps every bit of that data. Input is highly valuable in language learning, you have to allow your mind to subconsciously recognize all of the patterns the language posses. The brain after all is a pattern recognition machine.
Problem is I think people focus too much when they learn, and then they get stuck somewhere unimportant and their focus gets broken and they have to bring it back up again. I keep a low level of focus and boost it up to 11 when I determine something is really important. Really helps skim past unnecessary details the first few times, and makes the process repetition-friendly. Then I can fit in the details as the final part of the puzzle after a few repetitions of learning the material and practice questions.
I'm in year 8 sleeping late almost everyday. I will definitely try my best to sleep earlier however, this could be quiet difficult as I have a habit of staying up talking to friends and playing video games. Thank you for reading this comment and I hope you have a lovely rest of your day :)
i think it depends on individual if morning or evening is more effective for them! for me , sleeping at 3-4+ am while studying till 2+ am is so effective for me HAHA. having 8 hrs of sleep too!
My mom was an absolute topper at school and she always told me that she hated studying at night and never stayed up late and woke up every morning at 3'o clock and studied and now I follow that and it works for me
I did the same thing for my finals and it works really well. Even though I got the same hours of sleep everyone else did, I had a 10% increment than those people.

Small progress is still progress.
same, i usually study from 4:00 - 9:00 pm, i make sure not to go past that because my brain switches off when it gets late..

Good for u ! Thanks for the advice
Great information! Thankyou!

Exactly. Not a top student, but I do get good grades, studying is so much more effective in the morning.
As someone who LOVES sleeping I was never able to wake up early, no matter how unprepared I am or how important the test that same morning is
And guess what ? I was a top student, always first in my class, always getting the best grades
My secret ? Working smart
1) Don’t leave things till the day before the exam, try to get as much preparation as possible weeks or months earlier (preparing notes, doing exercices, understanding the difficult notions)
2) leave the memorizing part to the last days. I always memorize stuff the night before the exam just before going to sleep and I wake up remembering everything by heart (don’t know how to explain it, maybe sleeping helps the brain fix all the readings you did earlier or sth)
3) Do past exams : you’d be surprised to learn how similar the questions are. If you don’t have them just ask : your teacher, older students, etc. This will help you know how to prepare and what you’ll need so that you can target exactly what you need
Hope this helps someone

Haha yea same here, it’s crazy how the human body and brain work even without our doing
Yeaa, I did the same.
Small rewards are underrated
Way too much studying per day, top university students study 4 or 5 hours MAX per day, what you’re doing is just stupid.

Thanks ! After reading this, I feel like I wasted too much time on social media

Your videos are straight up amazing, I like your energy!!
CONGRATS ON 1 MILLION SUBS ! Y’all are the best ! U guys deserve it for sure :DD
I feel like we will never get the truth behind sleeping and its relationship with productivity
All i understood throughout different sources of knowledge is that each individual has their own productivity time, and happiness and a healthy mind play a HUGE role in your productivity, if you make the choice (subconsciously or not) to close the doors of your mind, you won't go that far
🤯🤯
Something I don't quite understand is how you miss out on deep sleep when you go to sleep late, because wouldn't you then just miss out light sleep (if you have to wake up at a certain time that is)?
Apparently your sleep cycles depend on your circadian clock which is tied to light exposure, not necessarily when you choose to go to sleep. So sleeping late starts you off on different cycles compared to sleeping early
@@KoiAcademy That's super interesting, thank you for the reply!
@@KoiAcademy what if I go to sleep before my cycle?
@@anamewoah5336 you probably start at the cycle before deep sleep, meaning light. At least according to that theory
Thanks for this!! 😍
I've learned something new today. I always wondered why I felt sleepy after taking warm showers in the morning
*"Sleep is necessary"*
Parents and Schools: "How about NO?"
This is exactly why my warm night showers make me sleep like a baby.
But actually, I was using that homework as active recall without realising it! So I ended up not with straight-A's (I didn't expect A's all the time as I _never_ studied) but I only ever failed ONCE in my entire time in high school.
That said, now that I'm in college, I have NO CLUE how to study! So skipping the study sessions comes with pros and cons! 😂
I wake up early because I can't focus at all at night but i go to bed early at about 8pm to ensure i get enough sleep
Sounds like your on track down early up early lol
Can't focus at nights either
I do the same!
Sleep at 8pm
Lol.. that's the time I reach my home after coaching classes
I already know about this stuff, first day of university my lecturer told us about the importance of sleep, and the science behind it. Honestly this is why I love I got into health science. Can’t wait to get into medical school!
this is actually one of the most helpfull videos out in internet.
For sleeping though, what I noticed for me that works is
sleep 10pm-4am
read/study 5am-9am and have a break
4pm-6pm window of learning/review
I do agree that having a good sleep is helpful, especially if your exercising too. 😊
there is no way youre sleeping enough
Hey, colleges love to see that your taking challenging courses! Keep going!!
It really depends on whether you’re a night or morning person and your own biological clock. Everyone is different.
Thank you so much for this very helpful video🙏
Thanks for the great advice
Rlly relatable lmao
I study my calculus during night and learning facts at night, I don't know but I always sleep at 12 am or even worse than that because before I sleep I open my phone and surf on Google to find new things then I wake up at 6/7 then sleep in the afternoon. So yeah, I'm a great night owl but planning to change my way of living for the sake of my brain.
Whatever keeps you sane lol
Thank you for the sleep guide it helps alot!
So, at the end of the day I don't think is about how much you sleep or at what time you go to bed, but is about knowing yourself and studying when you feel more productive
made me realize how messed up my sleep cycle is for the past 3 years
Ok, but if you sleep early then waking up early shouldn’t be an issue right? It’s not that it’s bad to study in the morning but more so about missing out on rem sleep correct? Sleep is important either way!!!
You got it!
Me: agreeing with the video and understanding
Also me: watching this video at 4am
I’m in my senior year of high school and at the end of my junior year I decided to never study or do homework past 10:00 since I wake up at 6:20 for school. I’ve been so much more rested and alert at school and I’ve had a way better mood to the point that people have pointed it out to me. I get a little behind on work sometimes, but I don’t regret it all since I’ve been so much happier and energetic.
Would the “notes” be like short term memory and the “filing cabinet” is long term memory too?
Yes you got it
Love how the controllers are just trying to reconnect with the switch body at 0:22 😂
"Why the top students never wake up early to study?"
Me: Because they stayed up until 4 am
As for me, I usually oversleep and impossible to wake me that early so you had to pull me or give me ride on you. So no problem with my sleep, except fact I sleep bit too much.
Same here
Totally unrelated to sleep but feeling like sharing it, my thing is reading my revision sheets just before tests (that implies working all the year for exams yes), that way when the test starts I read the subject quickly and then write everything I remember in the margin or a seperate sheet and use it later.
What did you eat on your healthy diet? And when did you eat?
@@hagenschroder9683 Yeah, want to know this too.
I would love to know
Sleep is so critical for our health and well being...and productivity too!
Love this video. You did such a great job describing the true importance of proper sleep.
THANK YOUUUUU
YOU SIMPLY GATHERED ALL THE INFO I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR A LONG WHILEE🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🌸💫💫👌💕💕💞💞💞
THANK YOU! I'm crying!! Thank you so much 🙏🎉🎉
I'm my class topper and I wake up at 5 in the morning because many were recommending that morning is the most productive part of the day and so I tried studying but I feel so sleepy so I would study for 30 mins then take a power nap.So it could be effective if you can take power naps maybe.
I’m a Japanese student,
It’s very useful to practice listening English
I appreciate for you to speak so clearly
Thank you so much😂
You got me down exactly to the bathroom visit lol
“Why the Top Students Never Wake Up Early to Study”
Me: lol Cause they just did an all-nighter obviously
Now I don't feel guilty for sleeping :D
Same😭😭
I don't think waking up early is the problem here, just go to bed early enough so you can get your 8 hours
exacly i do that
I really needed this video I really appreciate it seriously thank you
ho.. ly.. this video was.. I have no words 💀 it was so good. And the information shared was also incredibly helpful for anyone. Thank you.
I’m suffering from insomnia. This made me want to sleep 😴❤️ thanks so much 💕
i think it depends on individual if morning or evening is more effective for them! for me , sleeping at 3-4+ am while studying till 2+ am is so effective for me HAHA. having 8 hrs of sleep too!
Was waiting for the RemNote-REM sleep pun and I was not disappointed
Is the 'rem' in RemNote from the word 'remember'?
@@dimlighty nah mate I think it stands for Rem-y, from Ratatouille 👨🍳🐀
Yea originally lol
LOL. It’s stands for REMington as in bullets of knowledge
