With the science-backed techniques in this PDF, you can strategically use our step-by-step anti-morning routine to start your day off strong and exceed a month’s worth of work in less than 11 hours.
I absolutely love this! I can accomplish an enormous amount of work within just a few hours. It's incredible how much more I can achieve compared to the entire day's worth of work that I used to complete in the past. And the best part is, once I finish my tasks, I have the rest of the day to relax, recharge, and prepare for the next day.
Hi Rian! Aren't there ways to go into theta or delta that we may want to research? I am asking this because if we want flow and productivity it makes me wonder how to hack and optimize that. Btw thank you for your videos. I incredibly appreciate the work you do.
I've experienced this problem of balancing a morning routine and getting work done, usually wake up early to workout and get done around 9 and don't start working till 11AM and feel like the time is wasted! This video was speaking to me, but when's the ideal time for that 1.5 hour workout in the afternoon or like at 8AM like for you and your reboot? @Riandoris
Rian : suggestion: ditch the half-pushed up cap...it really detracts from your gravitas. Just looks a bit 'unserious'.. You've got great content...but this 'trendy' image detracts...
Water cooler John sleeps in the cubicle next to mine. I'm thinking of asking to be moved to a new cubicle. I can't get consistent sleep with his depressed midnight sobs.

For those of you that have a hard time getting up: 1. Set your phone or alarm across the room so you have to get up to turn it off. 2. Change your alarm to something different and alerting or annoying every week so that you don't get used to it and tune it out or sleep in. 3. Get dressed as soon as you get up to avoid going back to bed. 4. Make it a race to get something done before a certain time, like making a coffee before 7am so that you get an adrenaline rush in the morning helping you get up. 5. DO NOT EVER sleep in, "catching up on sleep" doesn't actually work or exist. If you get up on time you will tire out and go to sleep on time. Some days will feel slow and groggy but when its a habit then you will get good sleep with little effort in the future. These are things I slowly started to discover helped me get up.
If anyone has tried this method and failed, here is the method that worked for me: For preparation, turn your water heater up to 127deg. Also, purchase a digital meat thermometer. Purchase some of those light bulbs that can be programmed to dim. Set them to gradually dim from sundown to 10pm, dimmer and dimmer, preferably a blue light to simulate moonlight, until they’re automatically off or just have a single nightlight left by 10:30pm. Every night at 7-8PM, run a HOT bath. 107-113degrees(check with your meat thermometer) Leave your phone outside of the bathroom. Get in the bath & focus your mind on the feeling of the hot water. Slowly get used to the heat until you’re submerged to your neck. While you’re in the bath, just let your mind defragment. Don’t think about anything in particular, just let thoughts arise and observe them. Let your mind wander. This is a natural process of mental organization & compartmentalization. If any strong feelings arise, just notice them. Do this until you’re too hot to continue. If your face starts to itch, it’s time to get out. 15-25 minutes is plenty. Quickly wash yourself, rinse, & get out. After your bath, your workday is done. Try to minimize any remaining tasks and rush to get in the laying position. If you eat some food, make it carb heavy. Do not use your phone, do not text or browse, do not consume short form content or RUclips. Put on a movie & call it a night. In the morning, get some sunlight directly onto your eyes. Don’t stare at the sun, but just make sure its rays are gracing your eyes. If you’re lucky enough to have a window where the sun comes in, that’s perfect. But preferably take a 10 minute walk outside. That’s all you need. A tiny morning routine and a heavy nighttime routine.
I used to be able to get up, walk to my alarm, turn it off and return to bed without really waking up. I've always found that catching up sleep does work as long as not carried to excess. If I didn't sleep enough then an extra half hour can make the difference between being too tired to concentrate the whole day and being able to work reasonably well for most of the day.
@@GabrielBacon Not eating for at least two to three hours before bedtime and reading for an hour or so (usually on a tablet) gets me ready for sleep. Unfortunately getting sunlight early only works for about six months of the year. The rest it's anything from an hour to over two hours after getting up before the sun rises.
I notice when I wake up at 4 or 5 am and just get right into what is waiting for me to do I kick ass those days, but around 2 I have to go outside for a walk I just have to. This makes it all make sense!
I did this this morning, waking up at 6:45 an getting to work within the first 5 mins. if felt strange at first, but I was locked in for 2 hours, took a break, ate breakfast, showered and I'm just putting in the final hour of work before moving onto other things. This was amazing, thanks !
I was bad at chemistry in high school. We did a organic biology unit and decided I'd study all the lingo for 20 minutes before breakfast. Was the top of the class, knew exactly what teacher talking about. Bit annoyed didn't make that a habit.
I found myself to do this spontaneously whenever I had a deadline due. I'd wake up before alarm clock (sometimes middle of the night after just 3h sleep) and start working for 16h straight with one or two eating breaks. I wonder if I can do this without the stress of a deadline too, so I'll definitely try it out. I have flexible hours so I often struggle getting my day started. Putting alarm on 7.30, waking up at 8, eating breakfast while watching videos, drink a coffee, watch one more video, bathroom break, and it's already 10am. I could've gotten a third of my work done by then.
Step by step summary for the "fixed" morning routine: 1. Prepare the night before: Before going to bed, identify your highest priority task for the morning. Plan and organize the materials or resources you'll need to begin the task. 2. Wake up and flow: Upon waking up, aim to start working within 60 to 90 seconds, while you're still in a half-asleep state. Engage in your highest priority work immediately, without delay. Push through the initial struggle and allow yourself to enter a flow state. It may take around 15 minutes to reach a deep flow state. 3. Maintain a focused flow block: Dedicate a substantial period of time, ideally 1 to 3 hours, to work solely on your high-priority task. Minimize distractions and maintain intense focus during this flow block. Ride the wave of flow, where productivity and effortlessness are heightened. 4. Transition to recovery: After completing your flow block, transition to recovery activities. Incorporate practices that help you recover and boost flow proneness for the rest of the day, such as meditation, yoga, cold showers, or any other activities that provide relaxation and rejuvenation. 5. Balance and maintain: Throughout the day, strike a balance between focused work and recovery. Avoid neglecting recovery, as it is crucial for replenishing energy and sustaining flow productivity. Continuously assess and adjust your routine to find the sweet spot between a focused work session and sufficient recovery time.
One big omission in this perspective is that as a regular salary slave you have to do a lot of things in the morning just to get allowed to work. Walk the dog, dropoff the kids, drive to work etc. The "billionaires ypes" have people for all these mundane tasks and can skip this entire step in the morning. I have had similar effects as described in the video, but that was only, when I was all alone for several days.
Family does this to you. It's a 20 years commitment you agreed without a personal life or private space. Try this again when you are alone and the kids gone. (Or you could also try waking up earlier to do an hour productive work before even taking the dog for walk. Everything is about time management, planning and organisation. The difficulty in the beginning will get easier as you get into your new routine.)
I told my 4 year old about my plan to immediately wake up tomorrow morning and fold the crazy amount of laundry because it's the best time to do an important task. "No! That's not okay. Your important task is to snuggle!" XD
coming here after 4 months of doing this at least 3 times a week (and hoping to make it 7 times a week), this still works every single time. I have adhd and you did exactly what you promised in the title, changed my life. thank you rian! update after 11 months of the initial comment: trying to get back to doing this more committedly, because it still was the most effective way I dealt with my adhd, this time, a friend is helping me stay accountable through a "proof or punishment" based accountability system
Thanks for saying this, I have ADHD too and I many things that I've tried do not work because they are targeted for "normal" people... Will give this a try for sure
@@goodluckWhilst there definitely could have been a better choice of words, there are genuinely so many productivity hacks and advice that work great for many neurotypical people but not neurodivergent people, because of the literal differences in brain chemistry, so they are right in saying that it doesn’t work for them as opposed to most (neurotypical) people.
This is brilliant, stumbled on it working from home and just waking up 1 minute before a meeting or something, the only thing I would add is that even if you wear glasses already, don't just stare at the screen when you wake up(especially on the phone), your eyes need to calibrate upon waking, and going into a screen, and being in that rested fresh state, you will focus so much on the screen that you will damage your vision... So drop into the task, but stare out the window while working, thinking, you need to stare at distant things, the sky, far away buildings, etc. Doing that on and off for about 10-15 minutes will protect your vision.
Interesting never heard of that. Where this comes from? I've heard only second part that its not good to stare into screen or even book for too long and time to time eyes should change focus to prevent eyes muscles strain. Same like keeping one position for too long does e,g, sitting.
This absolutely makes sense. When I was young my parents made me and my sibling sit for not less than 3 hours of studying the first thing in the morning. We hated it but also would get so much done that we may not even have done throughout the day combined. I completely lost track of this routine as I grew up though. Following the trend of doing meditation, preparing and eating pre-workout meals, doing exercise, preparing and eating post-workout meal etc etc., as soon as I woke up made me feel badly overwhelmed and also exhausted every time I finally sat to do my work. I still remember this one time I had to wake up early to do some database-related work, and I had woke up feeling groggy that morning because I had slept around 2 o'clock the previous night. So mistakenly I deleted some over 4000 records from database. So the recovery you mentioned is actually very true and thus needed. Days when I would complete my work early, I would make sure to go for a walk in the evening and that would make me 10x more productive the next day rather than not going outside for a walk.
While I'm still re-working my afternoon recovery and work balance, I found as an entrepreneur this has been 100% life changing for me. I used to spend my mornings in a million different endless combinations of walks/meditations/food/hot+cold showers/yoga/exercise/sleeping in/wasting time/having tea but never any actual work until after all the things. Now I wake up, stumble into work + wow... get most of my PRIME work done between 7 and 11 am, and I can meander through the rest of the day feeling 'accomplished' and doing the things on my own time..yoga meditate tea exercise etc... I've edited 5/7 chapters of my book in the past month with this routine, and I've been trying to edit this book for YEARS. No exaggeration. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this and attempted it (I was very leery at first) THANK YOU.
How interesting. I did this a week ago one morning. I thought about a Bible study I'd like to write and then I hooked up my video camera, turned it on and video taped my thoughts on the subject, just to have notes for later. But but but, what happened was that the video was perfect and totally complete as it was. But I hadn't combed my hair fixed my makeup, nor adjusted the lighting etc . Amazingly, my thoughts flowed perfectly and that never happens when I'm first taking notes on a subject I want to speak on. You are soooo right! I'm going to start doing your technique daily.
I have been experiencing this with my writing. I get way more done if I dive right in early in the morning, then take a break and do the morning routine. The best of both worlds! Great to have it validated!
I am inclined to think that the key here is the planning the night before. You take the time to identify your most important task(s) and plan exactly how to tackle them. You will be able to relax and sleep better. Your brain will be working on the tasks as you sleep. That has to mean you are rested, focused and ready to dive right in.
I used this method for my dissertation during the pandemic, couldn't work during the day and so would start after my evening meal. Would review everything and had made myself a step by step check list that was easy to follow. Once I finished the review & preparation it was quite late so would lay down with my pc next to me, then when I woke I'd see it already and just needed to check 3 things off my list, then I could go back to sleep/power nap before my morning routine alarm where I would get. This was the only way I could write and consistently got up on time for my routine etc, for months. Huge for me and only broken cause I had discovered it late and as the deadline approached I panicked, stopped the power nap and then the morning routine to focus on getting it in on time, which of course made me burn out shortly after finishing.
This is huge. You're pre-loading your subconscious with the information it needs and the task to work on, it chews on the task while you sleep, and in the morning the minute you wake up you've figured out the answer to the problem from the night before.
I've always known that, for me, morning *self-centeredness* would *sabotage* my drive for the rest of the day. And when I jumped right in without thinking about my own needs, I got a lot done--and totally *enjoyed* taking care of my mind and body later in the day (instead of having self-care feel like a forced to-do list).
Your content was very interesting so I tried it the next morning, even tho i wasn't prepared. But was up at 4 am so left the morning fluff behind, just got earl grey green tea and took my NMN, hey I'm 69! And I worked for an hour on a script. Found out two things: first I felt very creative in a way I hadn't when I waited hours and hours to start working. Second after I was done, I felt the most important thing of my day was done! So even though there's more work to come, I felt a kind of relief and freedom for the rest of the day. And became aware of a low level anxiety that can be present, as I do ALL the other stuff and routines first! So, yeah I liked your vid, thanks!
This is something i must try! I can imagine it to be quite satisfying knowing, a couple hours into having woken up, that you have already amassed something meaningful for the day
Been doing this all week this week, and gotta say, absolute gamechanger. This has been by far my most productive week of this year and maybe forever. Thanks mate

I procrastinated a 10 page research paper for my english class until I only had 3 days left to finish. I decided that rather than loosing sleep staying up late into the night to work on the paper, I was going to go to bed early and wake up at 5am to work on it. When I woke up in the morning I sat right down in my chair and got to work. I was able to right for hours on end, and really focus effortlessly. It felt like my entire state of being was focused on just getting done this one task. This truly works, and this is also why everyone, whether they know it or not, is a morning person. No matter who you are, If you wake up hours before the rest of the people in your house, and get straight into your work, you will have zero distractions, and you will slip right into flow.

It works as long as it remains a novelty; then wears off. I find all strategies have this curve, and in end I get the work done in spite of strategizing rather than because of it. It's a lifelong conundrum but all you can do, in my opinion, is keep finding and introducing or reintroducing new strategies. No one routine/strategy will universally solve this dilemma.
I did this to when I was behind on my dissertation, it was the only way I could get any writing done. Expect I would do all the prep work before bed and then sleep with my laptop next to me so I could start asap as terrible at getting up. But after this I was actually able to consistently get up at the same time for my morning routine, every time, while using this method, unheard-of by someone who could easily lie in till noon.

Challenge accepted. Clearly listed out my morning goals last night. The urge to stay in bed this morning, for ten more minutes and watch some RUclips, was intense. Instead, I dumped myself out of bed, crawled to the computer, and got to work. A groggy start followed by a bump in resistance 10 minutes in but then, bam! 90 minutes had gone by and my list was checked off. I have been a morning routine evangelist for many years. This is truly a game changer and the first time I've heard anyone critique the morning routine religion vs the entrepreneur burnout phenomenon in the same cohesive strategy. Thanks my dude!
Yeah this makes sense! I have always tried to do meditations in the morning, but it is actually when I meditate after lunch, or after a stressful meeting, that I reap the most benefits out of it. Same for cold showers. If I take them at a random point during the day, it actually helps me to reset. What you are saying here with the ram analogy is that these morning routines are almost as if you reboot your computer 3 or 4 times after you have just started it, instead of rebooting it when it is stuck.

Game changer! Ive always felt so much pressure to do my morning routine I end up sleeping longer. You start the day on the backfoot instead of getting a head start. I'm a huge believer in the power of momentum. And momentum is gained by getting a head start on the world. This video is gold. 🙏🏼

I remembered during the pandemic I used to have to work from home so I would get up very last minute and logged in to my computer started doing work right away. Whenever I did that, I noticed I worked faster and be more productive. The flow was so smooth I actually wouldn’t stop working until 3 or 4 hours later. But after that I started crashing I would take nap and my afternoon would be the complete opposite, unproductive, sluggish, tiring. This explanation made so much sense. Gonna start trying it tomorrow but implementing the recovery part as well. Thank you!
Out of all the videos I've watched on RUclips this is one of the rarest videos I've taken action on. I've been trying this out for 5 days and it works really well. I can get a lot done, especially if I wake up early before sunrise, the silence and darkness helps I think (that's what I feel). I don't do much of the recovery I just take a bath and eat breakfast. I don't always wake up early but getting to work on the most important task as soon as I wake up really is a game changer. Now that I know it, it kinda seems obvious but Wish I had known and started this sooner.
@@riandoris Can I ask a advice about my routine ? I will tell my so you can judge it properly (since I'm in asia where sun rise and fall at 6 AM, and I go to work in company from 9AM-6PM, and it take me nearly 30 minutes to reach there). Here is the detail: + Usually after wake up around 6:30 AM I go to brush my teeth and pooping, then around 7 AM I go out for walking as exercise for around 20~40 minutes then I would take a quick cold shower and eat breakfast at around 7:45~8:20 AM. Then nearly 9 AM would I reach the company to work until 6 PM, by that point it usually have heavy trafficking so it nearly 7 PM would I reach home for take a shower + eat dinner. Finally I rest/entertain until 10 PM would I sleep. In the video you advice us to work right away after wake up (and maintain it to around 1~3 hour for the flow), but aside from what I mention above, my job (3D animation) require me to go into company to work since my computer at home are quite crappy, so how do I even work right after wake up, or 'work' here can be other type ? (like walking outside ? I don't know what else are considered 'work' to enter flow state like you said in the early morning here)

Man, this works. It started with me groggy, fumbling with my guitar, trying to learn one of the more challenging songs I’ve co-written in the past couple years. As I came to, I was already starting to groove, and by the end of about an hour it was starting to sound a pretty solid. I started to fatigue about an hour in (I’ll blame a lack of sleep), but I’ll definitely be able to go longer I’m sure. I didn’t hit that less than a minute after waking up, but even being disorganized and taking a couple minutes to find my way to my instrument… it worked. I’ll be doing this again :)

I was going for a walk every morning on waking as per protocol suggested by Huberman, but it always felt like I was squandering energy and "recovering" from sleep, which itself is a form of recovering. On the few mornings where I went right to my favorite café and started working, I felt way more productive and like I won the day. Plus one for this idea!
I struggled with the same thing. I followed Hubermann's advice to take a walk first thing when I wake up, but then I struggled a lot trying to get myself to work after that and ended up falling asleep. Not saying his advice is bad but definitely not very optimal
It never ceases to amaze me that research shows that our bodies are DESIGNED and in a way that BENEFITS us. Incredible. We are designed to elegantly and efficiently move AND to joyfully and intentionally rest. Indeed, this reality has been described for quite a while in the Bible.
Finally! A morning routine that makes sense. As a mother of little ones, the only time I have to do deep focus work is to wake up before them. Due to lack of time I wake up and have to get straight to work. I found that if I do anything else before this it would kill my flow. Which is why I would get frustrated at all the advice given to journal and exercise etc. When I did that, I found my work would suffer and I'd run out of steam. The only thing I didn't work on was recovery, so this is something I will need to implement. Also found my flow caps out at the 2 hour mark.
I've been doing the same for the past few weeks, it definitely works. Just pour myself a glass of water then straight to work. Sometimes I feel like I'm still half asleep when I open my laptop but everything gets better after 5 minutes.

i have watched all the self help and motivation channels and videos there are. but none of them consistently bring new and unique ideas and perspectives backed up by neurology and psychology that actually change the way i think and are likely to impact my behavior where as most other videos are just saying the same thing and don't actually change my perspective at all and this channel is only 3 videos old. i know for a fact that this channel will blow up Rian so i just wanna let you know that was watching you since you had 2.2k subscribers. love you and your ideas. take care bro!

So true! If I skip scrolling on the phone/snoozing when waking up and start doing the "work", I get things I haven't done in weeks or month done. Just set the goal the night before and then I skip breakfast and fast or drink juice while doing the "work". Reminder: "work" - the things you need to get done - can also be working out, paying bills, dealing with paperwork, studies/homework, hobbies or anything that can be a challenge of any kind especially when being "burned out" on the way to healing.
Gore Vidal recommended this to aspiring writers as well. He said the best time to write is when one first awakens because that is when your mind is closer to being in the dream state and you have more access to your creativity.
I have definitely experienced both sides of the spectrum. I had an elaborate routine that took me 2+ hours to complete. While I was doing it and at the end of it, I was like "Man, why am I doing this? I could have used this time to actually work. I just woke up. My energy levels are good." Instead, I now try to go straight to the assignment first thing when I wake up and then make the morning my afternoon and night routine.
This piece of advice has been a game changer for me. But I question how important it is to get to work as quickly as possible, or to take a few minutes first to make the bed, use the bathroom, brew some coffee, etc first, maybe for 5 to 10 minutes, and then get to work. I think perhaps the imortant take away here is not to engage in anything that requires more brain power than the basics (reading, journaling, meditation, etc) until after an initial work block. That's been the sweet spot for me, personally.
I have actually been doing this quite often instictively and now I know why I felt good about this! People always look at me weirdly when I am telling them that I prefer working immediately after waking up and then having breakfast and relax 1 or 2 hours later.
I recently became the founding designer at a web3 startup and I've been doing this thing of working right after I wake up and man Oh man, it has been miraculously amazing. Just starting to work right away makes it easier for me to tackle problems easier and solve problems faster.
yoga wakes me up. I have noticed that studying as soon as possible after waking ( 5 am) puts me back in the zone and time disappears! Very interesting video. I will definitely try! Can utmost relate to that. Back when I went to university, I used to wake up around 6, way before breakfast and my earliest lectures, to go to the park and train taijiquan for an hour. I wanted to become a taijiquan teacher so these morning sessions have been my recovery as well as my high priority work. I can't remember a phase in my life where I have been feeling more productive and "superfluid" than in these years.
Flow proneness I feel this! I wonder with spiritual experiences - as a psychic/medium, it’s helped me when I integrate it and channeling, which, well, that’s more like first language. When I apply it, it’s easier, so integrating it all.
Tried it for 2 weeks. Life's transformed. The more I added to the morningroutine, the more tired I got. I was told I would be stronger and stronger. But I got more and more tired, and couldn't work much when the routine was over. I became a bit depressed. And then this video came. I now do my routine after work is done. It's onlye been 2 weeks. When it's been working for a year, I will celebrate for real.
I found that my morning routine of not touching my phone and praying and fellowshipping with Jesus my Lord for the first one hour of my waking, sets my day on course. Anytime I miss that it doesn’t go well.
IMHO the only way to make this work forever and easily, and find happiness in your mornings, is if you feel excited about waking up. Like somehow harness that feeling you had as a kid on Christmas morning, or waking up to play that new video game that just came out, etc., where you don't care if you're a little tired because the excitement overwhelms all other emotions. Obviously this is next to impossible in modern society, especially if you work a regular job, but I think we all have that one thing that would do this for us. Most of us just never find it. I'm still looking, but I have hope :)
I realized this just last week. If I set my day the night before, I get excited waking up, knowing what I'm going to accomplish. I run my own business, but I have bigger goals, so for me, getting the business in a steady state to then give me freedom to do my next challenge is very motivating. I wish you luck finding your thing.
As some one who has been doing this all through out her college , i can certify that this works, even till this date when i have lot of studying to do especially since i am going to Medschool in few months , waking up and going straight to studying is my go to way to get the things done , i never really understood the science behind it, but i noticed that it really worked for me from much early on . And i would all my daily routines after 2 to 3 hrs of studying/ working. Thanks to Rian for explaining it in great detail .

I know it sounds ridiculous but i wanna ask u that U actually do your first priority right after waking up? Like i knoooow thats silly but no bathroom and brushing ur teeth? Like i really need to know if i could to these and have coffe while doing my first piority?
This video showed up at the right time. Thank you for resolving my conflict. When I bounce out of bed I want to do stuff right away. My “morning routine” was really getting in my way. Follow my flow in the AM. Use midmorning for recovery. Now why didn’t I think of that??? I am often oblivious to the obvious.😊
I have been doing this for the last 3 years, And I thought it was bad for me, but it just felt right (Waking up and working immediately) This video opened me up to the idea that I have been missing out on recovery, time to add that, probably the key.
Wake Up & Flow is changing my life! I admit that the struggle phase is a little more uncomfortable some days depending on what assignment I'm doing. But i pretty much always look at what I've accomplished in that morning and i feel satisfied and motivated to do it again the next morning. I get to do more than i would do during the rest of the day with a normal routine. A significant adjustment i made though, i wake up at 4:30am so that i can have more hours of uninterrupted work before my first class of the day. With nowhere to go, nobody to talk to, and nothing scheduled that early in the morning, my attention remains whole and undisturbed. Waking up super early might be difficult at first, but gradually shifting bedtime and wake up time makes it possible, i try to get 8 hours of sleep so i go to bed at 8 or 8:30pm. And i do deep breathing before going to bed and throughout the day to help me fall asleep faster at night and recover a little during the day. Give it a try!
Well done! I have two kids who I have to take to school at 8 and I only have time to work until 12. Since I wake up at 4:30, I’m able to work 2 more hours uninterrupted, we’re never late (as we were always when I woke up around 7), and in the afternoon I can relax instead of stressing about the work I still have to do at night. It’s really a game changer! My only struggle is going to bed early but I’ll try deep breathing thanks for the advice
I think one benefit of deciding what you are going to do the night before is that you are giving your subconscious something to do during the night, resulting in inspirations for the morning
It's funny, when I started stabilizing my sleep and exercising routine I often woke up and felt like I could do good work but never actually did it believing it would be bad for some arbitrary reason I never actually found. I'll be definitely doing that tomorrow haha thanks for the content!
I’ve tried this for about a week now, I haven’t been able to get into flow or even close, just frustration, trying to push through and I end up just going back to bed and restarting my day because I was exhausted trying to be creative on my newsletter and remembering my research.
What could help is this: Browse for templates for newsletters, you will not only come across lots of great ideas for examples, but the variety of layouts, color blocks, adding photos and/or images can help keep your newsletter from becoming stale, tedious or uninspired. (Which your readers will pick up on also!) Brainstorm (or at least write out) a list of things that you can choose from for upcoming newsletters. Some themes or topics you may never use, and others you may even revisit a few times per year. Don't expect from yourself a perfectly written newsletter from start to finish. Jot down ideas as they come to you, to be sorted out or expounded upon later. It will take the pressure off of getting a well crafted paragraph immediately, and allow you to feel relaxed and brain-dump more ideas in an organic and creative way. Then, have your research highlights written-down and ready to draw upon the night before, so when you wake up, you have that outline all ready to rocket into, and the template for your newsletter is also all ready for you. Just get that encouraging cup o' Joe, or tea, and all that's left to do is flesh-out those paragraphs whose outlines you already set-up. No worries about remembering your research to squash your creativity or cloud your day! 😊 You'll be close to halfway there, and then after a well-deserved break, tie up any loose ends, and then you can stretch your creative mind's muscles to layout the next upcoming newsletter but with no stress or time-crunch to bog down your creativity.
The preparation the night before is the key here for sure. If you're not ready to test this method in full, just try to at least prepare your work for the next day right before you go to sleep. It's important that you have no other distractions after you've prepared the work and go to sleep. No movies, no video games, no social media - the mental preparation for your task on the coming day is the key. You've to hype yourself up for the next day. You'll wake up ready, and it will feel much easier to reach your flow state and stay in there because you're prepared mentally (and physically).
Right? Sam's start-the-cam-and-ramble-for-an-hour videos are so hard to watch that it's a serious challenge to extract value from them. This is the way to do it.
This is a fantastic idea, I am up 4:30 in the morning, start with a cup of green tea and turmeric, meditate, yoga, by 6am feed my dog, spend some time in the garden among my fruit trees and plants. Make breakfast for kids, send them to school and ready for the day.
Prepare the night before Start working first thing in morning (1-3hrs) (highest productivity) Do your reboot routine Go for another phase of work (lower productivity)
Challenge absolutely accepted Sir. Can’t believe this is the first time I am hearing about this “fixed” routine, with all the content I am swallowing on RUclips etc everyday… THANK YOU for this puff of fresh air. This makes the most sense and I can’t wait to try it out. Being a full-time working mom of 3 though…. I just hope I’ll find a way to get into work and ride the flow wave before I gotta wake my kids up and get them ready for school etc. Will think about a way to make all of this work.

I like the wake up and work routine too. I'm an agency owner. To me, I look at the "morning routine" as a mislabeled "maintenance routine", so instead thinking about it as 'preparing for the day', I view it as maintenance/recover. You're repairing the damage you would otherwise experience without it. I work using a treadmill + standup desk, that's the right amount of stimulation to 'lock in' for work.
As a person experienced this I would say it’s really works. I had an exam last year needed to make a summary from hundreds of academic articles. I used to go my desk just after I’d woke up and could work effectively and at the same time absorbing the information at the same time. So, it’s not efficient in just work but also a good strategy to study.
Looking forward to trying this for my creative endeavors! I'm sure the passion one has or drive to get into the work will boost flow. So instead of trying to be creative late at night (as the last task I can fit into the day), I might be able to minimize the guilt of going to sleep late when I have a 9-5 to get to in the morning, dedicate some time to music in the morning, then get to my 9-5 and use the break to recover. Thank you for sharing!
Actually revolutionizing. I am exactly the biohacker Rian was, and still am doing those routines for about an hour to 90 minutes every morning. I accept the challenge and will jump right into flow starting tomorrow morning. 💪
I've found that by streamlining my morning routine down to merely two cups of tea, a shower, and a quick workout, I can quickly get into a focused flow state for whatever it is I am doing. I even skipped breakfast the past two days, because I find it harder to focus on a full stomach. With my natural decrease in appetite, combined with the use of your flow videos, me quitting my addiction, and narrowing down my focus, my productivity and my focus have gone through the roof both at home AND at my job. Mere weeks ago I was at work, anxious and dying to get out, with NO energy for my artistic passions. FLOW IS A GOD-SEND.
Game changer! Ive always felt so much pressure to do my morning routine I end up sleeping longer. You start the day on the backfoot instead of getting a head start. I'm a huge believer in the power of momentum. And momentum is gained by getting a head start on the world. This video is gold.
im a student rn and from a week i am doing this same thing when u wake up at morning ur mind soo clear and nothing is upto it u can do aloot of thing and in flow state
I agree BUT there is ONE THING that really works-getting out for a walk as soon as you wake up,just 20min listen to music, catch morning sun. This jump starts your day!
This is brilliant! Do the important things immediately when you wake up and this means you set it up the night before. After 1-3 hours of flow the brain uses a lot of resources so you need to recover afterwards, so yoga, meditation, journaling or a walk. simplicity is the key
Like everything in life, balance is key. It depends on what you want from your morning routine too. For me it is for my religious, spiritual and mental wellbeing. It doesn't last so long either, 30 minutes to an hour.

1# For anyone that has that nag or pushes themselves down cause you don't do something we have to realize that self-care isn't enough I know it might sound like anything is enough but this isn't that, but what we should do is also realize where we are and realize we can't do anything about it at that moment but me can contiune to slightly change everyday and get better everyday, so no reason to self hate considering we're supposed to self care
I've watched a lot of videos on how to perfect my morning routine and ended up doing a ton of stuff, which made it really hard to start working. I've noticed that when I start learning, working, or reading immediately after waking up, it works amazing. So, this is what I'm going to do from now on. Thank you for your video.
Nice one Rian, I've just had a super productive morning. Smashed out my daily email which I normally get done midday (on a good day) or early evening if I'm running behind schedule. And now I have plenty of time to fit in my self-care, fitness, and family goals. It's only 7am. Off to spend quality time with my daughter 👊.

This is it... I know from expereince that I used to feel like I am loosing time doing morning routines in the first few hours of waking up instead of focusing on the actual work. This is great tips and I've heard @AlexHomozi also mention that just wake up and get to work and it just makes sense. This is another game changer that I'll be doing for the next few weeks and can't wait to give an update, will probably do a video to share the journey.
This really does work. I independently discovered this for myself as well. The way I conceive of it, is that as soon as I wake up, I’m too groggy for my inner critic to nitpick everything I’m doing. It’s almost like the inner critic is still sleeping, and that allows me to move forward without the constant criticisms that generate in the ADD brain
I've actually been doing this for years. I get to work, fall asleep at my desk, wake up in a panic when I hear someone coming and get back to work. It hasn't exactly been life changing though
Wake up, work before prayer, work before brushing my teeth, work before taking a piss, work before showering, work before thinking about working because the best part of your morning is the joy of doing work. So blissful! Moral of the story. Work takes priority before anything.
Yes! our life must be productive, we must work work work. We shall not enjoy life we shall get money and work so we can work some more and go to work. My daily 1min break is over, i'm going to work now
Well it depends on what you see in the video. Personally what I got from this video that I should work as soon as possible after wking up because then I'm able to focus better and have part of the day working less instead of putting work off, thinking how I need to do things, getting to the evening without having done anything productive, being stressed and not able to focus to do something productive
No one said that, but you were made for work. Your Creator is a worker, and if you study His creation, you will find that the other creatures He made also work.
Excellent advice and have to say the best I found so far! I still have this dilemma about "when to have breakfast?" if applying this technique. 🤔 Should it be part of the "recovery" block after work, or is it a possibility to have it WHILE on the flow, working?
Yea, I actually have the same question. So far no one has answerred this, even Rian himself. I guess this method is just no too comprehensive enought, especially for ppl having a 9-5 job or someone who needs to go the office for work.
Wake up. Drink water. Tell your partner you love them. If they’re next to you. Cuddle them for 10 mins. Text good morning to your parents. If you’re spiritual. Thank god for another day. Have a shower. Get changed into your best work clothes. Then start your work.
i will be doing this but with this change- within 90 seconds of waking up - I open the curtains, do my bed, take sups and water, go instantly out in the bright morning sun, read my todo, stretch, 5-10 mins later get to work desk

Rían here, thanks for watching!
Oh yeah, I just finished setting up for the reboot tomorrow morning, so ready for it. Thank you so much.
@Riandoris

What wonderfully practical advice for people who sleep at their workplace. So glad I switched to sleeping under my desk.
Wake up an hour and a half sooner and do all your non work tasks in that time. Eat breakfast and then go to work

For those of you that have a hard time getting up:
Great ideas! Thank you (:
If anyone has tried this method and failed, here is the method that worked for me:
For preparation, turn your water heater up to 127deg.
107-113degrees(check with your meat thermometer)
Leave your phone outside of the bathroom.
The rest it's anything from an hour to over two hours after getting up before the sun rises.
thanks!
This was amazing, thanks !
whenever I've done this I have accomplished the most in my life, I didn't know why but now I do. and now I can stick to it. thank you
Agreed
You are welcome.
Sure
Step by step summary for the "fixed" morning routine:
1. Prepare the night before:
Before going to bed, identify your highest priority task for the morning.
Plan and organize the materials or resources you'll need to begin the task.
2. Wake up and flow:
Upon waking up, aim to start working within 60 to 90 seconds, while you're still in a half-asleep state.
Engage in your highest priority work immediately, without delay.
Push through the initial struggle and allow yourself to enter a flow state. It may take around 15 minutes to reach a deep flow state.
3. Maintain a focused flow block:
Dedicate a substantial period of time, ideally 1 to 3 hours, to work solely on your high-priority task.
Minimize distractions and maintain intense focus during this flow block.
Ride the wave of flow, where productivity and effortlessness are heightened.
4. Transition to recovery:
After completing your flow block, transition to recovery activities.
Incorporate practices that help you recover and boost flow proneness for the rest of the day, such as meditation, yoga, cold showers, or any other activities that provide relaxation and rejuvenation.
5. Balance and maintain:
Throughout the day, strike a balance between focused work and recovery.
Avoid neglecting recovery, as it is crucial for replenishing energy and sustaining flow productivity.
Continuously assess and adjust your routine to find the sweet spot between a focused work session and sufficient recovery time.

Every Indian kid will vouch for this - mothers telling us to get up at 4am to practice for exams.
They're not about that rise and grind! haha
I love this:-) So sweet.

Thank you so much for this vital information!!
Interesting never heard of that. Where this comes from? I've heard only second part that its not good to stare into screen or even book for too long and time to time eyes should change focus to prevent eyes muscles strain. Same like keeping one position for too long does e,g, sitting.
@@VaNad-q7s maybe from the general knowlwedge that our eyes weren't biologically designed to look at blue screen
What time did you wake up? My children would have to get up at 03h30 to have enough time to spend 3 hours studying before school.

I’m inclined to agree with you with regards to planning the night before being essential to implementing his idea successfully.
Yes exactly, I've been doing this the past few years.
Feels like I wasted the previous decade...
This is huge. You're pre-loading your subconscious with the information it needs and the task to work on, it chews on the task while you sleep, and in the morning the minute you wake up you've figured out the answer to the problem from the night before.
@@music2012pink Thanks, and congrats on finishing it! I hope you've recovered from the burnout, or if you havn't yet, that you will.
I've always known that, for me, morning *self-centeredness* would *sabotage* my drive for the rest of the day. And when I jumped right in without thinking about my own needs, I got a lot done--and totally *enjoyed* taking care of my mind and body later in the day (instead of having self-care feel like a forced to-do list).
ditto 😍
That way you've earned the reward.

Does this mea then: no cup of tea or glass of water before beginning work? Literally straight to work from bed, in my pijamas? 😃

I have been tryting this approach for about 3 weeks it has improved my productivity and I even sleep better. I love it!
Thank you!
Hey how is the implementation going?
Out of all the videos I've watched on RUclips this is one of the rarest videos I've taken action on. I've been trying this out for 5 days and it works really well. I can get a lot done, especially if I wake up early before sunrise, the silence and darkness helps I think (that's what I feel). I don't do much of the recovery I just take a bath and eat breakfast. I don't always wake up early but getting to work on the most important task as soon as I wake up really is a game changer. Now that I know it, it kinda seems obvious but Wish I had known and started this sooner.
Thank you for watching!
@@riandoris Can I ask a advice about my routine ? I will tell my so you can judge it properly (since I'm in asia where sun rise and fall at 6 AM, and I go to work in company from 9AM-6PM, and it take me nearly 30 minutes to reach there). Here is the detail:
+ Usually after wake up around 6:30 AM I go to brush my teeth and pooping, then around 7 AM I go out for walking as exercise for around 20~40 minutes then I would take a quick cold shower and eat breakfast at around 7:45~8:20 AM.

Thanks for sharing!

Do you brush your teeth first or just jump into Work FLOW?

I have definitely experienced both sides of the spectrum. I had an elaborate routine that took me 2+ hours to complete. While I was doing it and at the end of it, I was like "Man, why am I doing this? I could have used this time to actually work. I just woke up. My energy levels are good."
Instead, I now try to go straight to the assignment first thing when I wake up and then make the morning my afternoon and night routine.
Coffee is trash. Don’t drink it.
I have actually been doing this quite often instictively and now I know why I felt good about this! People always look at me weirdly when I am telling them that I prefer working immediately after waking up and then having breakfast and relax 1 or 2 hours later.

Back when I went to university, I used to wake up around 6, way before breakfast and my earliest lectures, to go to the park and train taijiquan for an hour.

4-7-8 box breathing and alkaline breathing
I think one benefit of deciding what you are going to do the night before is that you are giving your subconscious something to do during the night, resulting in inspirations for the morning
It's funny, when I started stabilizing my sleep and exercising routine I often woke up and felt like I could do good work but never actually did it believing it would be bad for some arbitrary reason I never actually found. I'll be definitely doing that tomorrow haha thanks for the content!
I'm going to try this, thank you Rian, your work is a game changer.
I’ve tried this for about a week now, I haven’t been able to get into flow or even close, just frustration, trying to push through and I end up just going back to bed and restarting my day because I was exhausted trying to be creative on my newsletter and remembering my research.
What could help is this:
Browse for templates for newsletters, you will not only come across lots of great ideas for examples, but the variety of layouts, color blocks, adding photos and/or images can help keep your newsletter from becoming stale, tedious or uninspired. (Which your readers will pick up on also!)
Brainstorm (or at least write out) a list of things that you can choose from for upcoming newsletters.
You'll be close to halfway there, and then after a well-deserved break, tie up any loose ends, and then you can stretch your creative mind's muscles to layout the next upcoming newsletter but with no stress or time-crunch to bog down your creativity.
The editing in this video is insane 🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate Rian and his team for delivering an amazing quality. Keep up 🙌

Not choosing to even own a cell phone has made me so much more productive. I stopped using cell phones in 2012.
So true but take a banana or something to snack on.
How do you wake up and not have to go to the bathroom?! Unless you can go to the bathroom in 10 seconds of waking up before the 90 sec threshold LOL
Take your work to the bathroom lmao
Thats what im saying like do these people just not brush their teeth 😂
@@ayman9517That's what I was thinking 😂😂😂
dude. so fkn good. excited to see the tremendous path ahead of you ❤
Thank you for watching!
This is brilliant! Do the important things immediately when you wake up and this means you set it up the night before. After 1-3 hours of flow the brain uses a lot of resources so you need to recover afterwards, so yoga, meditation, journaling or a walk. simplicity is the key
I tried it, and it’s insanely effective! Thanks! It’s crazy-I highly recommend everyone to give it a shot!
Makes so much sense. I burn out indeed after i do my wake up routine and i feel disheartened that i startt my date late because of that routine.😅
My dog needs to poop first thing in the morning. There is no interupting her flow.
You should try eating it
@@wozzco8111 it tastes like your mum lol
Like everything in life, balance is key. It depends on what you want from your morning routine too. For me it is for my religious, spiritual and mental wellbeing. It doesn't last so long either, 30 minutes to an hour.
Exactly why I’m such a big fan of stoicism. Finding balance.
@@Dilabun I don't know much about stoicism but I have looked into it as it shares a lot of the same concepts and virtues.
I find it quite interesting! ruclips.net/video/w-SaPgV5LaY/видео.htmlsi=TtbCMOMW86TF1g6A
1# For anyone that has that nag or pushes themselves down cause you don't do something we have to realize that self-care isn't enough I know it might sound like anything is enough but this isn't that, but what we should do is also realize where we are and realize we can't do anything about it at that moment but me can contiune to slightly change everyday and get better everyday, so no reason to self hate considering we're supposed to self care
Thank you for watching!
Thank you!! I’m currently revamping my morning routine and this was perfectly timed!! ❤
Most welcome.
In the name of Allah, we invite you to worship Allah alone, so say: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. These words make you a servant of Allah ...... .........
How's it going bro
This really does work. I independently discovered this for myself as well. The way I conceive of it, is that as soon as I wake up, I’m too groggy for my inner critic to nitpick everything I’m doing. It’s almost like the inner critic is still sleeping, and that allows me to move forward without the constant criticisms that generate in the ADD brain
This puts a whole new meaning to "live to work"
I've actually been doing this for years.
My daily 1min break is over, i'm going to work now
Thanks Austin
This whole video was speaking my language - so insightful! Thank you 🙏🏼
Wake up. Drink water. Tell your partner you love them. If they’re next to you. Cuddle them for 10 mins. Text good morning to your parents. If you’re spiritual. Thank god for another day. Have a shower. Get changed into your best work clothes. Then start your work.
I think having a shower is already occupying your brain and it's not what this video is recommending
i will be doing this but with this change-
within 90 seconds of waking up - I open the curtains, do my bed, take sups and water, go instantly out in the bright morning sun, read my todo, stretch, 5-10 mins later get to work desk
Am I the only one around here who needs to pee and brush my teeth in the morning?
I was also wondering how to miss this with Huberman’s “sun in the morning” advice!
