  • Had some fun, and tested my accuracy with & without a 10" stabilizer on my hunting bow at 150 yards. Thirty total shots (five rounds of three arrows with a stabilizer, five rounds w/o). This was my first attempt at this, one take.
    Bow setup (what I hunt with): well tuned Bowtech Destroyer 340 (2011), 70 lbs, 31" draw, well tuned Goldtip Pierce arrows- 474 grain, flying at 298 fps, Stan SX3 release, QAD HDX rest, Spot Hogg Fast Eddie site.

    I did my own test at 150 yards. Results: 20 shots without stabilizer 0 hits. 20 shots with stabilizer 0 hits. So yeah. No difference.

    Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.

    Great video. I think the most impressive part was using a pencil dot on the sight ring to accurately aim. I'd like to see a followup video where you shoot at 60 yards and see how many 10 rings your score versus not, because that's more of a real world scenario. As impressive as it is to hit a 2-3 foot bag from 150 yards, I'm not sure that's the best test.

    I love this! I bought another carbon bow because it's light (and warm when it's cold) and it seemed odd that I would be aiming for reduced weight and then adding a bunch of weight to it. I think that in some cases we are so brainwashed by accessories manufacturers that we just add stuff because we believe that we are supposed to. I have never had a problem shooting tight groups within actual hunting ranges without a stabilizer. I was just told by other archers that I needed one because it will make me a better shot. I don't think that it really made a difference in actual hunting ranges (8-60 yards). I do enjoy the dampening effects that stabilizers afford me but I could get that without adding a bunch of weight. Apparently, I thought that I would be viewed as a Luddite if I didn't have all of these accoutrements on my bow. I guess it's true, it's not the equipment... it's the operator. Great video and mega badass shooting bro.

      Don’t grip the bow with your front 4 fingers, it should sit between thumb and index finger at full draw and other fingers should be ahead of riser and not gripping it. Relax your front arm that holds the riser and make sure you have a consistent anchor somewhere on your face, don’t move arms around after draw everything should be anchored and only your form as one adjust to the target, count your breathing, assuming your bow is for the correct eye dominance and it has been setup properly tight groups at 20m are possible

    The point of a longer stabilizer and or side bar stabilizer is to calm down the pin float. He has good form and looks to be shape so he probably has the technique and back muscles to control his shot without one. NOW, someone who doesn’t shoot as much would really benefit from a longer stabilizer and weight out front. A longer stabilizer can instantly tighten groups for some/most. Buy one and make your own judgement.

    I would have liked to have seen the stab vs no stab done at a more reasonable range like 60-65yds where grouping would have been more possible. It would have been nice to see how group size compares with and without a stab. The 150 yard shot seems like it’s either hit or miss. It’s really hard to be precise at 150. At a range that allows for groups to be shot, we could have seen how the stab effects precision shooting.
    Retest at 50 yds????

    I have been shooting without a stabilizer for the past 4 months after beginning archery. I did notice that the bow was much steadier shooting at 80 yards compared to 45. I came to the conclusion that the tilt of the bow resulted in a more favorable center of gravity which assisted in a more favorable stabilization.
    I do wonder if the benefit of the stabilizer is negated at such a range due to the change of the center of gravity with the tilt of the bow.
    By no means am I an expert, but working with center of gravity has been a vital task in my profession.
    Regardless, I am very impressed with your accuracy with a bow. Well done!

  • @joelow6086

    Interesting. I feel it is how stable your bow arm is to score. I'm still shooting with my 1995 Hoyt Alfa Tech 3D bow till today and have killed several wild boars with it. With or without stabilizer I can hit an orange or apple at distances up to 75 feet. I think it is how an archer grip the handle that is important. Thanks for your demonstration. I've never shot that far.

    • @juffurey
      @juffurey Год назад

      This video tells me that it's really for Olympic style shooting, and at 150 yards there are probably too many variables out of your control to make a difference. But for example the riser I just picked up is very neutrally balanced, so to adjust that I'd need to add weight, and by using a stabilizer with weights on the end, I can affect the balance more without having to add more weight.

    I subbed because of this video. A couple of questions. 1) What is your bow poundage set at? 2) Did you notice more feedback without the stabilizer? 3) If you noticed a little more feedback WITHOUT the stabilizer ... would a stubby Limbsaver style stabilizer suffice?

    • @ZevenART
      @ZevenART  5 лет назад +2

      1. 70 pounds (my normal hunting setup). 2. All I really noticed without the stabilizer was more kick-back (bottom of the bow kicking forward), but the results show me how much that affected the bow's accuracy ;) P.S. This kick-back is noticeably less in many of the newer bows on the market now. 3. I have found that a "stubby Limbsaver style stabiliiter" or vibration dampener does in fact help quiet, and reduce vibration in many bows I have test-shot at shops. Hope that helps.
