Thanks for returning this to youtube, Steve. This number was posted by someone else several years ago & then deleted.
The young blonde main singer is Tommy Morgan. The other members of "The Glenn Miller Modernaires" are Harriet Clark, Fran Scott, Ralph Brewster, and Bill Conway.

Correction: Bill Conway is NOT one of the singers. I meant to write "Hal Dickinson."

The '4 Modernaires' were a group in their own right formed by Paul Whiteman and later hired by Miller. After Miller disbanded they were joined by Paula Kelly and became 'The Modernaires'. At no time were they 'Glenn Millers Modernaires'.

Dave Day ..... Your are misinformed. When Miller disbanded at the end of Sep of 1942, the Four Modernaires plus Marion Hutton and Tex Beneke toured as the Glenn Miller Singers. Paula Kelly did not join the until the summer of 1943, replacing Marion Hutton. Tex Beneke left the group at the end of October of 1942 following their last stage show in Hartford to join the Navy. At the Roxy Theatre in NYC the first week of October of 1942, they were billed as "Glenn Miller Presents the outstanding entertainers of his famous orchestra." Later it simply was shorted as The Glenn Miller Singers and then Glenn Miller's Modernaires.

The group was around before their Whiteman career. They started as a trio, but became the Four Modernaires in 1936 around the time they made a Vitaphone short with Harry Reser (fourth member Little Ryan). Soon after that, Ralph Brewster replaced Ryan and we heard the first of the iconic lineup for a few songs as “The Barnet Modern-Aires” with Charlie Barnet. After that they had a stint with George Hall, and finally Paul Whiteman and Miller.

@@kinklets Thanks for this clip Steve, but the group were indeed "The Glenn Miller Modernaires." If you look at them in "Jukebox Saturday Night" here on youtube, it says Glenn Miller Modernaires in the credits.

@@sandaglad No it's not. That's Dorothy Claire. In The Soundies Book by Scott MacGillivray and Ted Okuda, they say "Marion Hutton had left the group by the time these Soundies were filmed, and was replaced by a sometime Miller vocalist, Dorothy Claire."

@@scobeyfan Hi Scobey: The authors of The Soundies Book are wrong on this one. In addition to this number, Harriet Clark also sang with The Glenn Miller Modernaires in the Soundie "Jukebox Saturday Night," and a 1944 movie short, both of which can be seen here on youtube. Look up photos of Dorothy Claire; different person.

You are correct. It is not Dorothy Claire although many people have made that mistake. Their pictures show the real who's who. If anyone checks out the obituary of Harriet ( Clark ) Marx. 1922-2009 you see a picture of her much older but the resemblance to her youth leaves no doubt. It is Harriet. This was a time when members moved in and out of bands due to war and pregnancy.
