@@tessieoshea6904 A quick check will tell you this is the original Glenn (with 2 n's) Miller Band with Glenn of course conducting and playing his trombone. Tex Beneke (rather than "Benneke") took over the reorganized orchestra in 1946 and led it until he split with RCA in 1950. After that he led his own group patterned on the original Miller band, performing into his early 80s.
When I was a brat-kid in the early 1950's and this came on the radio, I did not like it, but move onward 70 years, many small but deadly wars fought in my own country and miles away, I realised that its the sentiment along with clean cut lyrics speaking about important to me things, home my gall, my kids, my safety, my health. To every one that in any way fought for this brat-kid, I say a heartfelt " THANK YOU SO MUCH!!" Let's enjoy this tune together shall we??
The Nicholas Brothers were extroadinary!! Fred Astaire said their dance routine in Stormy Weather was the best routine he had ever seen.!! Orchestra Wives movie really showcases the Glenn Miller band at their best!
Likely the greatest movie scene ever. The collection of talent...as if singing and playing an instrument isn't hard enough, the idea of TWO brothers being able to sing AND dance...mercy.
I was at a presentation at UCLA about 1975, when they showed a clip of the Nicholas Brothers dancing, and then the Nicholas Brothers came out and danced around! What a thrill!
The Modernaires. One the hottest, if not the best harmony groups to ever hit the airwaves. And Tex Beneke? If there is a definition of cool, this man is it. Sax player. Whistles like a bird in perfect pitch. And a voice as smooth as silk. And the tap dancers? Not sure who they are but goddamn. Never seen such smooth sailin. Absolute professionals. Now this was entertainment at its finest.🇺🇸

Nobody would be game to train for routines like theirs nowadays. Could damage oneself for the rest of one's life. The big swing bands and jazz bands of the late 'thirties and through the'forties. Did those musicians work for peanuts? Unaffordable now.
Notice in addition to the Nicholas Brothers incredible dancing that they could also belt out a tune quite well. And speaking of tunes they don't get any better than those of the great Harry Warren.
OUTSTANDING!! I have no words. The joy and artistry of the Nicholas Bros... This is Olympic level gymnastics while wearing a tux and dress shoes with leather soles and TAPS 🤘🏾👊🏽 I try to comprehend the work put in and discipline, as Black men in the 1940s, to achieve this level of prowess and accomplishment. I need to know more about them. If there isn't a statue or monument for them somewhere, there should be. Respect.
Our darling Dad died last week age 95. He was a young man in the 1940's and Glenn Miller accompanied our childhoods in the 60's and 70's - we grew to appreciate it and now that he's gone - it brings back precious memories of him.

Wow what talent here on so many levels. Still cannot get over that dance sequence. Without wires or anything. Inhuman, bet mj wished he could have done that.
I wish I could go back in time to see this in person! I love the part where Tex Beneke is whistling with the powerful Glenn Miller Orchestra backing him up.
The band is sublime, as always. The Nicholas Brothers, are insanely good. To get up out of a split without using yours hands is tough enough. To do it a dozen times in a routine, just crazy!
THIS is MUSIC ! I JUST LOVE this singing group & orchestra. The fact that Jackie Gleason is part of this before he really became famous is amazing. LOVE, love, LOVE this !!
People were just built different back then. Actual talent, actual class. This isn't the genre of music I come from, but what a performance. The Greatest Generation wasn't only great on the battlefields.

I love this music. It makes me proud to be an American. But maybe I'm being nostalgic and stupid, as US music now is pure shit. Somethings gone wrong with this country.
Precision dancing at its finest. The incomparable Nicholas Brothers were celebrated by their peers as the Greatest! They set the standard for excellence in themselves and for those that will eventually follow. Now, the Nicholas Brothers are “Dancing with the ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.” God bless
Two of the finest, most talented and underrated dancers to ever grace the silver screen and probably any stage anywhere. Once you reach a certain level of proficiency, "expert" or "master" become meaningless words. These two gentlemen are right at the top of the field with Astaire, Kelly, O'Connor, Hines, Sammy Davis, and anyone else who ever wore taps. Thank you for posting this, as this is the first time I've seen this performance.
I was not born until 1960. But I love this music. I would sit around with my mom & talk about starting a club. On Saturday nights it was big band night. All men had to wear a TUX & ladies had to wear a dress. We were closed on Sunday & Mondays. The rest of the week was come as you want. The name of the club was "The Big Band Sound." The club was two stories with the club on the bottom & the bar on the bottom. What a time it was BACK THEN. America was a special place.
Last night my wife and I went to the "Glenn Miller" Orchestra. They do a wonderful rendition of a lot of Glen millers music with dancing and singing to boot. I also grew up with a family that loved this music. It is with me still.
I always liked Fred Astaire because he danced with great fluidity, and Gene Kelly because he was athletic. But the Nicholas brothers danced with BOTH great fluidity and athleticism. They were tops! And the Glenn Miller orchestra was tops, as well.
I didn't even know about the Nicholas brothers til I saw this. Wow.....were they talented! Great voices AND dancing. I've never seen anyone who is that daring and acrobatic in their dance moves AND can sing like that.
Got my iconic Best of Glenn as a young teen but was listening years before as an 8 yr old.Im 63 now and know every word and note ,all versions.Ive outlived my poor clarinet I started playing at 11, as I was inspired by Miller's music.
I Absolutely L💖VE black & white musicals!!! Oh this clip was Phenomenally Amazing from start 2 finish!!!💯🎯 the song I got a gal N Kalamazoo... PERFECT harmony & the Nickolas Bros were Incredible!!!💖💚💙😀
Thanks so much for the clip. It's criminal that the Nicholas Brothers aren't better known. They should've been among *the* biggest stars -- they were as elegant as Fred Astaire (whose work I love) and also were able to do athletic feats that he couldn't.
Thanks for the info. Was wondering whomthe two tap dancers were. Yes, I was thinking of Fred Astaire when watching and thought, I don't think Mr. Astaire has the gymnastic abilities like the Nicholas Brothers do. Simply fantastic number
According to Wikipedia, it was (unfortunately) a common practice for Hollywood studios in the 1940s to edit out parts of clips of songs when prints were sent to Southern states. Thus, when performers like the Nicholas Brothers were featured rather than just as comic relief or stereotypical characters, Southern audiences never saw their dance routines.
My mom and dad would have loved these amazing clips They both raised me on the classic films and I am so very thankful that they did! Wonderful thank you so much for sharing this absolute gem! 💎

I did Karate. But, don't try a Nicholas Brothers routine. Too dangerous for me!
The scare the begeezus out of me. Unforgetable.
Glenn Miller and his orchestra...forever in my heart.😍
Same here, my father was a trumpet player, and I listened to the band where he was playing all these tunes.
It Swings Daddy-o 😎
Don't think it is Glen Miller but Ted Benneke and orchestra.
@@tessieoshea6904 Eh? Glenn is playing lead trombone in the video!
Dance descriptions don't lie. That was incredible! Way to go Nicholas brothers!
Born in 2002 and love this music
I just saw the Glenn Miller Orchestra tonight in Traverse City. They were fab.
The Nicholas Brothers were extroadinary!! Fred Astaire said their dance routine in Stormy Weather was the best routine he had ever seen.!! Orchestra Wives movie really showcases the Glenn Miller band at their best!
Omg Marion was so adorable!!
Tex and other vocalists, the band and last but not least the fabulous Nicholas Brothers... That is entertainment
I'm a sucker for old classic tap dancing musicals. Love them.
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
From a mad keen 77yo Aussie fan.
Nobody mentioned the brilliance of the Nicholas Brothers?????
Likely the greatest movie scene ever. The collection of talent...as if singing and playing an instrument isn't hard enough, the idea of TWO brothers being able to sing AND dance...mercy.
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG--the Nicholas brothers are awesome!!!!
I was at a presentation at UCLA about 1975, when they showed a clip of the Nicholas Brothers dancing, and then the Nicholas Brothers came out and danced around! What a thrill!
Everything is so in tuned and hardly anything is off in this video. Perfection
Perfect
The recording would have been done live in a studio but they aren't really being recorded in the film scene.
I've lost track of how many times I've watched this. So much fun!
Best period ever for music and songs ever
The Modernaires. One the hottest, if not the best harmony groups to ever hit the airwaves. And Tex Beneke? If there is a definition of cool, this man is it. Sax player. Whistles like a bird in perfect pitch. And a voice as smooth as silk. And the tap dancers? Not sure who they are but goddamn. Never seen such smooth sailin. Absolute professionals. Now this was entertainment at its finest.🇺🇸
They're the Nicholas Brothers. For my $$ the greatest dance team EVER! Look up some of their other performances.
The tap dancers were The Nicholas Brothers.. They were at the peak of tap dancing in those days.
Tex, what a voice, long gone lovely era, all Glenn Miller’s music is perfect and lovely to listen to.👍👍🍻
Marion was a phenomenal talent. So animated and beautiful.💜
She lights up the screen.
The showmanship of those two dancers. Unbelievable talent
Marion was such a cutie.. whenever this comes up , I always, watch it. Did not know she was Betty's sister. I should noticed. Fun clip...
Notice that Jacky Gleason was playing, or acting playing, the slap bass?
Talking about the Nicholas bros danceing!!!!!!! The were an still are ,the Standard of there Fantastic, danceing an showmanship! Nobody can top them!, Even today!!!!!!!🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nobody even does that kind of classical tap dancing anymore, seemingly
Nobody would be game to train for routines like theirs nowadays. Could damage oneself for the rest of one's life.
The big swing bands and jazz bands of the late 'thirties and through the'forties. Did those musicians work for peanuts?
Unaffordable now.
Notice in addition to the Nicholas Brothers incredible dancing that they could also belt out a tune quite well. And speaking of tunes they don't get any better than those of the great Harry Warren.
I JUST ADORE THIS MUSIC.. IT IS SO SOOTHING, AND DEFINITELY SOMETHING WE NEED TODAY.... THANK U UTUBE...👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
OUTSTANDING!! I have no words. The joy and artistry of the Nicholas Bros... This is Olympic level gymnastics while wearing a tux and dress shoes with leather soles and TAPS 🤘🏾👊🏽
I try to comprehend the work put in and discipline, as Black men in the 1940s, to achieve this level of prowess and accomplishment. I need to know more about them. If there isn't a statue or monument for them somewhere, there should be.
Respect.
And oh, the harmonies of those Modernaires, And that Marion Hutton. Goofy and beautiful at the same time. Love her!
Annettesmusic I kept looking for someone to say something!! Albeit I like most prefer her little sis. Marion is spot on!
Nah; Marion hams it up waaaaaay too much. Modernaires were better with Paula Kelley.
Goofy? That gal's full of rhythm and can't seem to hold it in. She was cool full of energy.
@@ctruth6185 She is also the sister of "Betty Hutton", whom I really enjoy!

Nobody swings it like GLENN MILLER and HIS ORCHESTRA; Love the Golden Age of Hollywood Musicals.
This song was nominated for an Oscar. Pure pleasure.
It was one of Gerald and Betty Ford's favorites- President and Mrs.Ford had a loving marriage and- Gerry married Betty- a gal from- Kalamazoo.
Our darling Dad died last week age 95. He was a young man in the 1940's and Glenn Miller accompanied our childhoods in the 60's and 70's - we grew to appreciate it and now that he's gone - it brings back precious memories of him.
Sorry for your loss! I grew up with all the big bands as well! My dad was born in 1917. ❤❤
What magnificent artistry and performances amazing all analog no amplification just pure talent. This is timeless and must always be appreciated for this immense amount of effort and perfection to get it that good man what happened to our culture?
Wow what talent here on so many levels. Still cannot get over that dance sequence. Without wires or anything. Inhuman, bet mj wished he could have done that.
if these guys saw mj perform they'd seize and keel over
@@isaach8289 lmao you're joking right. show me one clip of MJ dancing even close to this well haha
I wish I could go back in time to see this in person! I love the part where Tex Beneke is whistling with the powerful Glenn Miller Orchestra backing him up.
My VFW member August Caccavone was a squad leader with the 7th Army during WW2 and he remembers Glenn Miller and all the musicians of the 1940s era
Can I come with you?
Me too
Me three. And put me in a Pullman sleeping car on a famous named train heading to the show !!!
The band is sublime, as always. The Nicholas Brothers, are insanely good. To get up out of a split without using yours hands is tough enough. To do it a dozen times in a routine, just crazy!
My 12 yr old son loves Glenn Miller. I feel like I have got all my parenting right at this moment :)
I believe people are still good. I wish they would care more about their appearance.
CAN WE PLEASE BRING BACK THIS AMAZING MUSIC TO THE U.S.A...TY..
And, the Nicholas Brothers. Famous and the best of dancers. What a movie!
I was born in 1956 and these songs were still heard on the radio 55 or so years ago. Send all that heavy metal and rap back to hell where it came from. This is real music.♥️🤗👍👍
DITTO!
Hello Sue, How are you doing?
Back in the day,you had too have natural talent and believe me there was no shortage of it back then Legends ❤
This is all so good it brings tears to my eyes every time i watch it.
My goodness. This is pure perfection and so happy it’s preserved.
If she walked down the street in that look today she’d drop jaws. This is just timeless beauty.
I love this music. I'm 73 years old. My parents played this music all the time. ❤
Goosebumps!
Was brought up to Glenn Miller and all the big bands...real musicians
The harmony, the artistry & talent!! Straight to the heart. So happy!! Classic!! Will live forever!!💕😘🥳
Who is here in 2024?
Got my iconic Best of Glenn as a young teen but was listening years before as an 8 yr old.Im 63 now and know every word and note ,all versions.Ive outlived my poor clarinet I started playing at 11, as I was inspired by Miller's music.
Yes!
Me!!
Me too!
I am! It makes me dance!
They actually danced together...
Excellent
@@williamsnyder5616 Those bigots missed out on some unbelievable talent. Too bad, their loss.
what an beautiful song. nothing but pure joy in this performance.
I am 74 years of age, a Chinese from far away Singapore, really enjoy the Big Band era music and songs💖
My mom and dad would have loved these amazing clips They both raised me on the classic films and I am so very thankful that they did!
Wonderful thank you so much for sharing this absolute gem! 💎
No one can touch the Nick Brothers
No one. The Greatest Dancing Team ❤❤
Music to win a world war 2...My dad served in the Philippines 1944-45. One of his favorite songs. RIP.
I heard this on the radio dozens of times back in the 50's. ............and today it's still as delightful as ever. Horray for the oldies ! !
February 12, 2014: From the 1963 graduating class of Paschal High School, Fort Worth, Texas--Happy 100th birthday to a great Paschal alumnus, the late Gordon Lee ("Tex") Beneke! You and Mr. Miller and all your associates did so much to boost the morale and determination of so many Americans during one of our country's darkest times. It was our parents' generation, and in memory of our parents and all other members of their generation--The Greatest Generation--who served the cause of liberty in so many ways, military and civilian alike, during and after that time, so that we might have the opportunity to enjoy the lives we have lived, we proudly salute you! Your wonderful music sounds as good today as ever!
Right on.
Here in Dallas Texas 2020 I loved what you said you hit the nail on the head! I'm loving that I found this clip from the movie. My father and his brothers served their part in WWII. I grew up listening to big band music and I wished I could've seen Glenn Miller's band but I did get to take my dad to see Count Basie and his band. My dad said he saw him at Radio City Music Hall in 1945 he acted like a kid he was so excited I was able to do a meet and greet with pictures and autographs. I'm so glad this is the extended clip that included the amazing dancing of the Nichols Brothers.
This is the greatest. Glenn Miller and the Nicholas Brothers. I watch this at least once a week. I may shut it down when they are doing splits that would kill me.
The Nicholas brothers are truly a f en gem, of artists. Love them.
Glenn Miller, Tex Beneke, Marion Hutton and the Modernaires, with the incomparable dancing of the Nicholas Brothers. Musical heaven!
I've still got my mum's LP that includes this - but sadly now unplay-ably scratched. However, back then I wasn't privy to this marvellous footage, only the audio. Thank god for RUclips!
I am so amazed and glad that this kind of music has three million views. Fantastic. I hope big band music never leaves us.
Miss Hutton is not conceited, just having a great time and full of wonderful energy like her sister Betty!! Thanks for sharing!!!
I heard an interview with Tex where he was asked if they realized they were making history. His immediate response was "Hell no, we were just havin" loads of fun!".
@@Poisson4147 I've always enjoyed anything either of the Hutton sisters did!! Thanks for your comment!!
