Thanks, man!! I was able to fix the stuck shutter on my camera the way you showed it 😎. Also, I don’t need the meter on mine so just dropped the metal clip in the battery chamber and taped down the battery door.
Hi, thanks for the video, my ql17 has the same problem, but this metal plate that you showed is not bent. I managed to open it and seems that the cooking mechanism in the lens don't travel further enough to cook the shutter, i need to force a little bit with a screwdriver to cook the shutter. It started this behaviour in the middle of a film roll. I dont have any clue how to repair it.
I think i have the same problem. The Bit at the bottom that moves towards the left when i cock the shutter doesn't reach all the way. I can force it with a screwdriver and it cocks the shutter correctly, but i cant seem to figure out what i need to do to make a more permanent fix.
I have a Canonet I'm working on this is the first one I've owned. One thing I can't figure out is when you depress the shutter you have depress it all the way to the bottom before it finally fires. Makes it easy to jerk the camera when shooting. Is this how they were designed? I could try and find a soft shutter button to make it easier to fire.
Hi Mathew. If you go to 1:00 in my video and pause it. You will see two long springs. The one on the right is attached to the shutter button. There is a "out of round" washer at the bottom of that spring that makes contact with the shutter release lever. If it is on the "short" side, you will have to press the shutter to the bottom to trip the shutter. By adjusting that washer's position, you should be able to adjust the shutter action. I hope this helps.
Hi Devon, thanks a lot for the video. I managed to open the camera. I´ve touched the mechanism and started to work for a while till I´ve tried to close it again. Now doesn´t work anymore.. Any tips? I live in Berlin, I visited the local repair shop and he refuse to fix it. Such a bummer.. Please help me to fix this beauty! many thanks Giacomo
I followed everything you mentioned and I found no mechanism bent. The lever just keeps advancing and doesn’t lock. Shutter doesn’t fire as well and the aperture is not moving what can I do to fix this? I tried cleaning the shutter and aperture blades with cotton swab with rubbing alcohol already btw
@@wrldwar3 I got the same problem😥. In my case, the lens wobbles a tiny bit. I tightened the 4 screws that put in place the lens to the body but it is still wobbling. I think the issue is inside the lens but I can't find any tutorial to disassemble it completely.
How if the aperture blade is always opening when i advance it? Absolutely that happens on auto mode. But when it off, the mechanism is back to manual. My aperture blade still moving as long as the advance goes. Last time i open the upper cover and see the spring didn't push it back nicely, so i should touch it lil bit to lock on manual mode. So what i supposed to do is always on manual mode, but it will be a trap if i don't mean switch the ring to auto mode. The blades will stuck and moving again :(
You have to remove the top and bottom plate. Starting from the corner closest to the lens, gently left up the corner of the leatherette with small flat object. Slowly work your way from one side to the other. Some leatherette comes off very easy, but some need a lot of work and patience to remove without ripping it. It usually depends on how much and what kind of glue was used. Good luck.
thanks for the video. On mine, the shutter button does not travel down low enough to push the lever to release the shutter. In fact, the locking lever does not move to the left to perform the lock when I crank the film advance lever. The lever pushing the locking lever is not bent in any way. Even when i manually push the locking mechanism to left (facing the camera), it does not stay locked. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Hi, TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOU OR YOUR CAMERA. Pause the video at 0:57. You see two springs. The one on right has a screw with a kind of oval washer on it. That washer makes contact with the shutter release lever which is right below it. Based on the was that washer is sitting, It may not be making contact with the shutter release. If you turn the screw, it will turn the washer bringing it closer to the shutter lease to make contact when you press it. First check to make sure that you shutter is not stuck and that the camera is not in auto ("A") mode before you adjust the screw. You should be able to trip the shutter by gently pressing down on the shutter release lever. I hope this fixes your problem and as always.
@@wrldwar3 Thanks for the response. I will try your suggestion. No I don't have any intentions of holding you or anyone responsible for my actions. Is there a way I can send a short video showing the problem? Thanks again.
@@wrldwar3 HI, i just discovered why the bar (with the elongated oval hole) does not go down far enough to trigger the shutter release. From my video, you can see the lever held in by the C-ring, for some reason, moves all the way to the left when the shutter button is pushed thus blocking the long bar from traveling down enough to trigger the release. If I hold back the C-ring lever with the screwdriver, then the bar goes down enough to trigger the shutter release. Your video shows when you push the shutter release button, that C-ring lever does not move all the way to the left. Not seeing why my C-ring lever is moving too far to the left creating that block.

mine has the same problem. i definitely don’t have the tool smarts to fix it like you did, but it’s interesting to learn what’s causing it!

Is you lens loose? Can you wiggle/shake it with your fingers?

Can you make another video on how to take the leather out and dissemble it to fix the problem? Thanks!

well shown, thank you.
thanks for sharing this video. I have two originals that i want to try yo repair and this helps alot.
