    Very helpful to know about how a wick should be placed in a pot and in the water. It makes sense. And thanks for the sharing about the sunlight on the roots. Sometimes the roots are exposed at the top of apotted plant and now I know not to be concerned. Thanks

    Hello Fonnie! Thank you so much for your videos. I learn a lot!
    I hope you can answer the following question: can I keep the water reservoir always full even if there are roots inside the reservoir? Or is it better to wait until it's completely empty before refilling it with water to avoid root rot?
    Thank you in advance!

    Thank you, Fonnie, for this and all of your videos!
    My mom has had a Hoya since 1968. She got it from a friend who had it for decades.We don't know the variety. Mom's has been chopped many times because it takes over a wall, and gets into cabinets, and things it shouldn't! It is in constant bloom and new growth. It doesn't quit!
    I have only recently discovered so many Hoyas and acquired some rarer ones like the globulosa, elliptica, callistophylla and a few other ones that I am hoping not to kill. ;)
    I have become attracted to pon so that I can have a cleaner house but the diy pots are puzzling. I have had to be an engineer with stuff I normally would throw in the recycling bin! You have given me a few more ideas! Thank you!
    One thing I am going to do, is place the cup configuration, such as yours, in a nice looking pot.
    Keep learning; keep teaching! XOXO love and hugs to you, Fonnie!

I have recently developed a liking to Hoyas and have about ten of them. Today I transferred my first one into lechuza pon. I’m holding my breath; I hope she survives.
    A question for you: Is there a best time of year for transferring them to pon or is any time of year fine? Thank you!

    another good to know information. even the wick is just laying at the bottom of the pot, it will still work. Pon will suck up the moisture up from the wick thru capillary action. i have been using pon since 2016 up to now. also consider the size/diameter of the wick that you will use depending on the size of your pot.

      Using pon made my plant journey easy. I also save some money overtime because the subrate can be re-used. You have so many options of fertilizer to use. From basic/universal fertilizers to a specialized or specific nutrients based from your plant needs. its just amazing! i am loving it.

    I don't have clear pots, so I don't know whether algae harm a plant or not, but algae certainly harm cuttings rooting. I had a few cuttings die on me when there was algae growing in the glass. But if I manage to keep the glass clear of algae they usually do well.

    • @tfyfonnie
      @tfyfonnie  2 года назад

      In that occasion, was water the rooting medium you are referring to?

    • @walle5667
      @walle5667 2 года назад

      @@tfyfonnie Yes. I use water to root the cuttings. Takes a bit long sometimes, but usually does the trick reliably 👀

    • @tfyfonnie
      @tfyfonnie  2 года назад

      @@walle5667 I see, I do have issues with algae if water is the only substrate, especially when the algae has grown on the roots itself. I suspect it’s because algae blocks the roots from interchanging oxygen and other nutrients if too much algae is grown on the roots🤔

    • @tfyfonnie
      @tfyfonnie  2 года назад +2

      The unfortunate answer is yes, most of the time when I repot, I’ll have to rip off some roots. But you can also cut the plastic pot to free the roots without much casualties. If the Hoya is healthy, roots grow fast and the ripped off ones will grow back without a major issue 😊

    Hi Fonnie. Must we always use a wick for the water reservoir? Could we sit the smaller pot directly into the bigger water reservoir and fill with water up to say, 1/3 of the smaller pot (let’s say the plant is already established with some water roots)? Will it work?

    • @tfyfonnie
      @tfyfonnie  Год назад

      You don’t need a wick when water roots has grown into the water reservoir 😊 the wick is an assistant for the plant to absorb water when there is nothing bringing up the water into Lechuza Pon😀

    this is so confusing 🫤 because hakunalaplanta fills it all up with water to the top when propagating and then lowers the amount of water when it gets water roots this is totally the opposite where its a little water and then increases when there is a lot of water roots and both have thriving plants. what to do, what to do someone please clarify !!!!!because both work and have thriving plants but how does that function?
